SGT. RICHARD L. "RICK" RUSHFORD

FLETCHER / HEATHROW, England -- Sgt. Richard Louis "Rick" Rushford, age 42, passed away unexpectedly following a short illness in Heathrow, England. He was born in Bristol, Conn. on Aug. 27, 1959, the son of Harley Rushford Jr. and the late Dorothy J. "Dot" (Therrien) Rushford, who predeceased him Feb. 26, 2001.

He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax Class of 1979. He later married the former Adriana "Astrid" Groenestein in Holland. Rick served his country honorably as an F-15 dedicated crew chief from Oct. 15, 1981 to Nov. 30, 2001. He was an integral part of the 493rd Fighter Squadron for the last seven years and will be greatly missed by all of the military personnel who had the distinct pleasure to have served with him. He was also extremely dedicated to raising his two children as a loving Father, Son, Brother and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of those who had grown to know and love him.

He is survived by his wife Adriana "Astrid" (Groenestein) Rushford and their two children Justin Rushford and Shannon Rushford, all of England; his father Harley Rushford Jr. of Fletcher; two brothers, Harley D. Rushford III of Fletcher, Louie Rushford and his wife Mary of Fairfax; two sisters, Debra Thompson and her husband Wayne of Fairfax, Angela Woodward and her husband Brian of Fairfax; his mother-in-law Hendrika Van Gasteren of Holland; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Harley D. Sr. and Ruby Rushford; and his maternal grandparents, George and Harriet Therrien.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. in The United Church of Fairfax with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery, with full military honors.

At the families request, memorial contributions may be made in Rick's memory to benefit his children Shannon and Justin, c/o Astrid Rushford, PSC 41, Box 393, APO AE 09464. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax, VT.

RAMONA A. ELDRED

MONTGOMERY -- Ramona A. Eldred, age 64, died Monday morning, Dec. 17, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born June 11, 1937, in Montgomery, the daughter of the late Herman and Marguerite (Greenia) Pudvah.

She was a resident of Montgomery most of her life. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, arts and crafts and most of her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her life long partner, Sonny Taylor of Richford; one daughter and her husband, Deborah and Ernest Whitney of Eden; one son and his wife, Jason and Leah Eldred of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Erin Wheelock, Krystal and Haylee Whitney; one brother and his wife, Charles and Patricia Pudvah of Zephyr Hills, FL.; one sister and her husband, Martha and Paul Daudelin of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Whitehead and Joyce Garrow.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 19., at 1 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls. Interment will be held next spring in the Montgomery Village Cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call on the family Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral at the funeral home.

WESLEY C. LaROCHELLE

FAIRFIELD -- Mr. Wesley C. LaRochelle, age 89, died Sunday evening, Dec. 16, 2001, in the Roncalli Health Center (formerly Verdelle Village, E.C.F.) following an extended illness. He was born in Burlington Jan. 23, 1912, son of the late Arthur and Georgianna (Cote) LaRochelle. He married Katherine Raymond on Dec. 27, 1934. She died Aug. 17, 1995. Wesley was a dairy farmer and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.

His survivors include his six daughters and their husbands, Phyllis and Donald Bessette of Swanton, Shirley and Francis Butler of Deland, Fla., Doris and James Driver of Milton, Norma and William L'Esperance of St. Albans, Marjorie Sanders of Swanton, Nancy and Roger Dussault of St. Albans; a sister, Blanche Bushey of Stafford Springs, Conn.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by his only son, Richard LaRochelle on Dec. 15, 1959, and by his sisters Grace White, Thelma Limoge, Rene LaRochelle and brothers Howard, Homer, Joseph, and Maurice LaRochelle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Friends may call at the Brady and Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in the LaRochelle Family Lot in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady and Levesque Funeral Home.

ARTHUR J. ROOT, JR.

GRAND ISLE -- Arthur J. Root, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Arthur was born in Burlington on Dec. 22, 1930, the son of Arthur J. and Evelyn May (Thibeault) Root.

He was married for over 44 years to Geraldine Reuschel, who predeceased him on March 8 of this year.

Arthur had worked as head of maintenance for Edmonds School and St. Joseph's School, both in Burlington.

He took great pride and love in his family and grandchildren. He had his own country music band and enjoyed singing with his wife, Geraldine, at stops throughout the state. He also loved to fish.

Arthur is survived by his son Charles Root Sr. and his fiancé Barbara Whitney of Milton; by his grandson Charles Root Jr. of Milton; and his granddaughter Cheryl Duncan and her husband James of Seattle, Wash.; by his brother Clayton "Butch" Root of Essex; his sisters of Milton, Sally St. Gelais, Pauline Thayer, Dot Hubacher, and Helen Koch of Florida He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Geraldine, Arthur was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jarvis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Isle. Burial will be in the Grand Isle Cemetery in the spring.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Church Hall at St. Joseph's.

Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

DONALD H. (PUD) SHOVER

ENOSBURG FALLS/ WESTBROOK, Me. - Donald H. (Pud) Shover, age 83, died Dec. 7, 2001 at the Springbrook Health Care Center.

He was born in Burlington, May 6, 1918, the son of the late Harris and Pearl (Thompson) Shover.

Donald graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1936 and then served in World War II stationed at Fort Williams in Portland, Me. After the war, Donald worked with his father at Shover & Son, Inc. in Enosburg until 1960 and was then employed at Enosburg Water & Light Dept. for 20 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #42 of Enosburg. Donald had a large collection of model trains and enjoyed designing his own buildings and scenery.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbara C. Shover of Cornish, Me.; a son David Shover and his wife Pamela of Underhill and their children, Christopher and Karen; a daughter Deborah Bourne and her husband Tyler of South Easton, Mass. and their children, Megan and Shannon; a step-daughter Laurel Stone and her husband Timothy of Cornish, Me. and their children, Robert and Rececca; a step-daughter April Libby of Hamilton, Mont.

He was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn (Sawyer) Shover in 1977.

A graveside service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls. For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Legion Post #42 in care of Andre Beaulieu, Adj., P.O. Box 572, Enosburg Falls, Vt. 05450, or St. Matthews Episcopal Church Memorial Fund in care of Michael Burfoot, M.D., Tres., 1650 Watertower Rod., Enosburg Falls, Vt. 05450. Spears Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GREGORY G. OSWALD

GOSHEN, Ind. - Gregory G. Oswald, 35, of Goshen, Indiana, and a 1984 graduate of Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax, died Dec. 6, 2001 from a gunshot wound at Nu-wood Decorative Millwork, Goshen.

Oswald was born May 7 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle (Bontrager); a daughter, Megan Oswald of Walkerton; two sons, Cory of Walkerton and Joshua of Goshen; a stepson, Dustin Kienzler of Goshen; his parents, Mary Jo (Cender) and Wesley Oswald of Lake Jackson, Texas, formerly of Franklin County, Vermont; a sister, Lucinda McKinney of Greenville, Texas; and his ex-wife, Melissa Paquette Oswald, of Goshen, formerly of Georgia, Vt.

Mr. Oswald's father, Wesley Oswald was a former administrator at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Services were held Tuesday at West Goshen Church of the Brethren.

SARAH K. JACKSON

SWANTON/NEWINGTON, Conn. - Sarah K. (Kelly) Jackson, 89, of Swanton, Vt., and a former Newington, Conn., resident, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001.

She was born in Allagash, Me., daughter of the late Ransford and Mary (Mullins) Kelly and had lived in Newington from 1978-1994 before moving to Swanton. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Jackson worked at Bradley International Airport for 20 years. She was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Conn.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley C. and Joanne Jackson of Weathersfield, Vt., and Brian P. and Linda Kelly of Swanton; three brothers, Joseph Kelly of Maine, Luther Kelly of East Hartford, Conn., and Henry Kelly of Florida; a sister, Florence Henderson of Maine; six grandchildren, Bradley Jackson, Susan Trahan, Heather Lavoie, Christina Clark, Michael Jackson and Brain Kelly II; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Harley Kelly and Leonard Kelly.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, Conn., with the Rev. Thomas Nichols officiating. Burial will be in the Westmeadow Cemetery, Newington.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contributions in Mrs. Jackson memory may be made to the Allagash Baptist Church, c/o Linda McBrierty, RR #1 Box 207, Allagash, Me. Local arrangements are administered by Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. Swanton.
