VALIDA A. BOMBARDIER

ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Valida A. Bombardier, age 84, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, 2001 in Redstone Villa Nursing Home.

She was born in Rouses Point, N.Y., June 3, 1917, daughter of the late Joseph and Philomene (Tremblay) Belair. She married Stanley "Pappy" Bombardier, Sept. 15, 1941. Pappy died Feb. 15, 1989.

Valida was a saleslady and cashier for M.H. Fishman Store for over 39 years, retiring in 1977. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, and a former bingo committee person for Holy Angels Bingo. Valida was a former member and worker for the Holy Angels Mothers Club. She enjoyed card playing, penny bingo and regular bingo.

Her survivors include her daughter Nancy and her husband James McMillan of Fairfield; sons Robert and his wife Karen Bombardier of Ocala, Fla., David and his wife Carmen Bombardier of Burlington; her sister Jeannette Charbonneau of Swanton; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and her sister, Anita Mumley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in the Bombardier family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Masses or to the Redstone Villa Activities Fund, 7 Forrest Hill Drive, St. Albans, Vt., 05478. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady "& Levesque Funeral Home.

BERNARD E. HARVEY, JR.

ST. ALBANS - Bernard E. Harvey, Jr., age 37, affectionately known as "B.J." by family and friends, died in an automobile accident on Interstate 89, Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2001, in St. Albans.

B.J. was born in Brattleboro, Jan. 11, 1964, son of Bernard E. and Sandra (Morse) Harvey, Sr. He was employed as an electrician, formerly for Radio Shack and most recently with Gosselin Electric. Being very active in sports, B.J. was the basketball coach for the Hot Shots Team of St. Albans Elementary School and a member of the Vermont Area Snow Travelers.

B.J. loved life, was a devoted husband and father and especially enjoyed camping with his family, hunting with his father and son, snowmobiling, basketball, and was a general outdoorsman. He was a true friend, family man, father, brother, son, uncle, work partner, practical joker and was loved by everyone who knew him.

He married Brenda Sterrette June 10, 1991. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Benjamin and Brooke; his parents, Bernie and Sandy Harvey of Swanton; brothers, sisters and their spouses, Pam and Douglas Aiken of Morrisville, Robin and Mark Gosselin of Georgia, Dennis and Christine Harvey of Milton, maternal grandparents, Ralph and Mary Morse of St. Albans; paternal grandmother Ann Harvey of Springfield; aunts and uncles, Linda and Christopher Neronski of Virginia Beach, Va., Beverly and Roger Menard of Winter Park, Fla., Bonnie Blake of Chester; his mother- and father-in-law, Shirley and Francis Butler of Deland, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Vicki Gray of St. Albans, Tammy Harp of Arizona; maternal grandfather-in-law Wesley LaRochelle of St. Albans; 11 nieces and nephews, several cousins, great aunts and great uncles; and his pets, Abby, Winnie and Annabell.

He was predeceased by his nephew Clifford Poirier, Jr.; paternal grandparents Urban M Harvey (a.k.a. Bunny) and Olive Winot; maternal grandmother-in-law Catherine LaRochelle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86, South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Internment will be in the Harvey family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in B.J.'s name to the Harvey Children Education Fund, in care of Robin and Mark Gosselin, 655 Bronson Rd., St. Albans, Vt. 05478. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

JEREMIAH J. COLACECI

MORRISVILLE -- Jeremiah John Colaceci was gently released in the arms of our Lord on the day of his birth, Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was the newborn son of Robert J. Colaceci and Angie Jean Tourangeau of Craftsbury.

He is survived by his mother and father, three half-sisters, Liza Barry, Beth Barry, and Mandy Rooney, all of Craftsbury; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Betty Colaceci of Burlington, his maternal grandparents, Beverly Clark of Hardwick and James Tourangeau, Sr. of Craftsbury; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Jeremiah's memory to Church of The Rock, P.O. Box 313, St. Albans, VT 05478. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

FRANK HOWARD CROSS, JR.

HUNTINGTON -- Frank Howard Cross, Jr., 75, died in the presence of his family at his home on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.

He was born in Vergennes June 12, 1926, the son of Frank H. Cross, Sr. and Ruth (Jewett) Cross. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1947. On August 27, 1960 he married Rose May Harper.

Frank was a craftsman and farmer. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, birds and reading. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, dogs and special times with grandson, Joshua.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rose May Cross of Huntington, his son, Frank H., III and wife Tina of Highgate, his daughter, Sue Benedict of Bristol, grandchildren, Joshua and Julie, sisters, Frances Kruger of Florida, Helen Andrew of Connecticut, sisters-in-law, May and Helen Harper, Eunice Pasho and husband Bob, brother-in-law, William Harper, nieces, nephews and his constant companion, his new puppy, Ladybug.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot St., Richmond. There are no visiting hours. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Assoc., N.E. Affiliate Central Processing Ctr., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

BRIAN M. GARDNER, SR.

HIGHGATE CENTER -- A celebration of the life of Brian M. Gardner, Sr., was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Church of The Rock in St. Albans, with Pastor Roland Ludlam officiating. Kathryn Miner was the pianist. The usher was Kenneth Greenia. Reflections of sharing life with Brian were expressed by his son, Brian Jr., his God-Daughter, and several friends.

Among the congregation, present were representatives of the Highgate Elementary School, University of Vermont, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Vermont Federal Credit Union employees, St. Albans City Police and Public Works Departments, Lake Street Texaco, Wildcat Transport, Inc., Abenaki Self-Help Association, several of the Church of The Rock parishioners and many hunting and fishing friends. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

STANLEY C. MABLE

ALBURG -- Stanley C. Mable, 55, of Alburg and formerly of Waterbury, passed away at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001. Born in Colchester on February 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Wayne C. and Helen S. (Rowland) Mable.

Stanley attended schools in South Burlington. He had been employed in shipping and receiving by Wyeth Nutritionals in Georgia, Vt. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his companion, Donna Holcomb Larose and her daughter, Becca Plote, both of Alburg; his children, Dawn Mable of Waterbury, Shawn Mable and his wife Taunya of Waterbury Center, and Todd Mable of Waterbury; his grandchildren, Joshua Mable, Tyler Mable, Dustin Mable and Amanda Mable; two sisters, Joyce Porter of Springfield, Jeannette Pecor of Essex Jct.; four brothers, Richard Mable of Stonington, Conn., Allen Mable of So. Burlington, Duane Mable of Williston, and Bruce Mable of Waitsfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held from the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place in the Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher this spring. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alburg Fire and Rescue Service, Main Street, Alburg, VT 05440, or to the American Lung Assoc. of Vermont, 30 Farrell Street, So. Burlington, VT 05403-9987. A memorial service will also be held on Dec. 15, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Isle LaMotte United Memorial Church. Arrangements are in the care of Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

DORIS E. MACHIA

SHELDON - Mrs. Doris E. Machia, 87, a resident of the Cook Road died Friday morning, December 7, 2001, in the Northwestern Medical Center in Saint Albans.

She was born in Sheldon, April 2, 1914, the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Rice) Corwell. She attended Sheldon schools and on, August 13, 1929, married Donald Machia who predeceased her on, December 20, 1985.

For many years Mrs. Machia lived in the Troy, N.Y., area returning to Vermont in 1988. She was a member of Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church in Highgate Center.

Mrs. Machia leaves six daughters and their husbands, Lorraine and George Plouffe of Saint Albans, Beverly and Marcel Desorcie of Saint Albans, Priscilla and John White of Fairfield, Eleanor and Clyde Snedecor of Cohoes, New York, Sandra White of Sheldon and Diane and George Vautrin of Cohoes, New York; three sons Thornton and Earl Machia of East Highgate and Donald Machia of the Troy, New York area. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 26 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Wendell Machia on April 24, 1990 and a daughter-in-law, Frances Machia on March 22, 2001.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at 11 a.m. from Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in Saint Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Mrs. Machia's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

RONALD J. C. WOODWARD

EAST MONTPELIER -- Mr. Ronald J. C. Woodward, age 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at his home.

He was born Dec. 25, 1924 in Enosburg, the son of the late Bennie S. & May (Betters) Woodward.

Ronald is survived b his wife Geneva (Sweet) Woodward, whom he married July 31, 1948; two daughters, Patricia J. Woodward of St. Croix, USVT and Gail M. Woodward of East Montpelier; two grandchildren, Sayde J. Burke of Northfield Falls, and Benjamin L. Utton of Cranberry, Pa.

In keeping with Ronald's wishes there was no visiting hours or memorial service. Burial was in the Woodward family lot in the Enosburg Center Cemetery.

For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Legion, Headquarters Post #100, Montpelier, VT of the Home Health & Hospice Program, 600 Granger Rd., Berlin, Montpelier, VT 05602.

LOUELLA "NONNIE" BROWN BESSETTE

ST. ALBANS - Louella Brown Bessette, 86, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at her home. She was born in Belvidere Sept. 14, 1915, the daughter of the late Ashton and Sylvia (Hutchins) Brown. On Oct. 26, 1940, Louella married Frederick W. Bessette in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in St. Albans. He died Dec. 8, 1997.

Louella graduated with highest honors from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans in 1934. She worked in several local business offices retiring in 1980 from S. B. Collins, Inc., after 18 years of employment there. Her greatest pride and joy was the love of her children and grandchildren.

Louella was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for 72 years, the Phi Alpha Class of the Church and Circle 2 of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Robert E. Glidden Post 758, VFW Auxiliary in St. Albans and served as treasurer for FCARC for many years.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Frederick Bessette, Jr., and Chun of Wichita Falls, Texas, Sylvia "Kitty" and Richard Greene, Betty and Larry Bombardier, and Andrew and Marie Bessette all of St. Albans; nine grandchildren, Brian Bombardier, Tony Greene, Leah Greene, Michael and Casey Bessette and Jeremy Bessette, all of St. Albans, Bradley Bombardier of Brighton, Mass., Coreen and Mikel Miller of Chandler, Ariz., Cynthia and David Messier of Williston and, Gregory Bessette of Beverly, Mass. She also leaves five great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Havah, Caylin, Jessica and Alexis; as well as a brother and his wife, Curtis and Lucille Brown of St. Albans; and a sister, Mary Tallman of Belvidere. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Pauline Esposito of Homosassa, Fla., Shirley Brown of Belvidere, and Stella Brown of Belvidere; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Frederick, she was predeceased by four brothers, Wilbur, Amsden, Carroll and Larry Brown and two sisters, Betty Ashline and Sylvia Brown.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Reverend Oren Lane officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Memorial Fund of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Church St., St. Albans, Vt., 05478. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.
