Ronald C. Greenwood

WILDER — Ronald C. Green-wood, 61, died Oct. 25, 2002, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Plainfield, N.H., the son of Carl and Doris (Locke) Greenwood.

He married Barbara Parker on Feb. 27, 1965.

Mr. Greenwood served four years in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with Special Forces. He was a mech-anic for several years and later worked as a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company in White River Junction for 25 years, retiring in 1993 due to poor health.

He enjoyed camping, auto racing and rebuilding antique cars.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2571 and Amer-ican Legion Post 26, both in White River Junction, and BPOElks Lodge 1541 in Hartford.

Survivors include his wife of Wilder; a son, David Greenwood of White River Junction; two brothers, Carroll Greenwood of North Wood-stock, N.H., and Carl Greenwood of Mount Holly, N.J.; two sisters, Geraldine Fadden of West Leb-anon, N.H., and Cecelia Besaw of Littleton, N.H.; a half-sister, Geral-dine Emery of Lebanon, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Priscilla Dam, Georgianna Collins and Sylvia Greenwood; a half-sister, Erlene Shaw, and a half-brother, Norman Huntoon.

Friends may call at Knight Fu-neral Home in White River Junc-tion on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m., with burial in the Mount Olivet cemetery.

Judith V. Dexter

BELLOWS FALLS — Judith Vann Dexter, 50, died unexpectedly on Oct. 24, 2002.

She was born May 7, 1952, in Bellows Falls, the daughter of Claud and Evangeline (Sencabaugh) Dexter.

She attended school in Bellows Falls, graduating through the GED program.

She worked with her father at Dexter’s Clothing on the Square, and later with her brother at Dexter’s Clothing in Brattleboro. She also worked at Harlow’s vegetable stand in Westminster, Walker’s Farm in Dummerston and Black River Produce in Proctorsville.

She enjoyed swimming, skiing, reading, gardening and walking.

Survivors include her parents of Bellows Falls; a son, Jason Lissai of Johnson; a daughter, Corey Olbrych of Westminster; a son, Mark Olbrych Jr. of Bellows Falls; a brother, Robert Dexter of Island Pond; her partner, David Boylan of Bellows Falls; also nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Wallace and Sylvia Sencabaugh; and paternal grandparents, Loren and Jennie Dexter.

The memorial service will be held at Episcopal Immanuel Church on Monday at 1 p.m.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to a local humane society.

Arlene I. Mahoney

SPRINGFIELD — Arlene I. Mahoney, 95, of Reservoir Road, died Oct. 24, 2002, at Springfield Hospital.

She was born May 10, 1907, in Chester, the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Abbott) Sloan. She graduated from Chester High School.

She was a telephone operator in Chester.

She married to H. Francis Mahoney in 1929. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Mahoney was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Court St. Anne Catholic Daughters, Home Dem Club, the Bridge Club in North Springfield, and also was an active bridge player at the Springfield Senior Center.

Survivors include a son, Francis E. Mahoney of Barre Town; a daughter, Janice Amidon of Gran-by, Conn.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield. The Rev. Joseph Romano, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Davis Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer So-ciety, Vermont Division, 13 Loomis St., Drawer C., Montpelier, 05602.

George A. Smolnik Rites

SPRINGFIELD — The funeral service for George A. Smolnik Sr., 56, who died Oct 21, 2002, at Springfield Hospital, was held Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield. The Rev. Thomas Hiltsley, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Oakland cemetery in Springfield.

Bearers were members of Ver-mont National Guard Unit 131: Kent Samson, Edward Davidson, Timothy Bell, Johnny Barbour Jr., Lemuel Nott, Ernest Kohler and Richard Jewett.

Military honors were provided by Vermont National Guard Unit 131 and Robert L. Johnson VFW Post 771. The flag was presented by Kent Samson.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Veneita G. Richardson

HARTLAND — Veneita Grace (Lobdell) Richardson, 86, died Oct. 24, 2002 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She was born May 7, 1916 in Hartland, the daughter of Glenn and Olive (White) Lobdell.

She graduated from New Rochelle (N.Y.) High School.

She married Floyd M. Richardson in 1938. He died in 1998.

The Richardsons ran the family farm on Hartland Hill for their entire married lives.

Mrs. Richardson helped with hot lunches at Hartland Elementary School for several years. She sewed all the uniforms for the Hartland Elementary School Band.

She enjoyed music and playing the piano.

Survivors include two sons, James G. Richardson and Gordon L. Richardson, both of Hartland; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Caterino of Cornish, N.H., and Anita L. Richardson of Hartland; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Murray Lobdell.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Universalist Society at Hartland Four Corners. The Rev. Beverly Boke will officiate. Burial will follow at Hartland Village cemetery.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Helen A. Franzoni

Helen Anita Franzoni, 92, of Rutland, died Sunday morning, October 27, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland.

She was born in Proctor, November 2, 1909, the daughter of Alexander and Elena (Torri) Franzoni.

Miss Franzoni was a graduate of Rutland High School.

She was employed by the U.S. Government at the U.S. Air Force Base in Hartford, Conn., for several years and later at Wilson Sports Equipment Co. and Wilson Photo Co. in Rutland.

Miss Franzoni was a member of Christ the King Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing and painting.

Surviving is a sister-in-law, Janet (Slocum) Franzoni of Rutland; a niece, Mary Anne Garrow of Mendon; five nephews, Patrick Canty of Rutland, Michael Canty of Proctor, Joseph Canty of Burlington, Robert Franzoni of Norwich, Vermont and David Franzoni of Malibu, Calif.; six grandnieces and three grandnephews. She was predeceased by five sisters, Eleanor Canty, Augusta Heaton, Mary Franzoni, Ozvilda Eakin and Isminnie Naiva; and a brother, Robert S. Franzoni, who died in 2000.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Christ the King Church.

There will be no calling hours.

The Clifford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary M. Kearney

Mary Margaret Kearney, 83, of Rutland, died Oct. 28, 2002, at Heartland Nursing Home in Adelphi, Md.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Madeline K. Pollock

PITTSFORD - Madeline K. Pollock, 81, died Oct. 27, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Pittsford, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Mulligan) Keith.

She was a former resident of Bennington, where she was co-owner of the Bennington Credit Bureau and Noon's Clothing Store with her husband. After moving to Pittsford, she worked as a bookkeeper for Keith's Trading Post.

She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Our Lady of Fatima Sodality.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Pollock of Geneseo, N.Y., and Matthew Pollock of Middlebury; and a brother, Joseph Keith of Pittsford; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Pollock, in 1975; four brothers, John, Robert, Patrick and Francis Keith; and a sister, Sarah Marie.

The memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Catholic cemetery in Pittsford.

There will be no calling hours.

Warren L. Cole

MOUNT HOLLY - Warren Lloyd Cole, 62, died Oct. 28, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Norman C. Bailey Sr.

BRANDON - Norman Chauncey Bailey Sr., 79, died Oct. 27, 2002, at his home.

He was born April 11, 1923, in Leicester, the son of William and Celia (Brown) Bailey.

He received his early education in Leicester schools.

He married Phyllis Disorda on June 22, 1948, in Brandon.

Mr. Bailey worked as an automobile mechanic with his brothers in Forest Dale. He later co-owned and operated Bailey Brothers Exxon in Brandon, retiring in 1993 after more than 50 years as an auto mechanic.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving during World War II, and was directly involved in the air offensive against Japan in the western pacific, having served with the 28th Bombardment Squadron of the 19th Bomb Group.

He was a former member of American Legion Post 55 of Brandon.

Mr. Bailey enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Brandon; two sons, Norman Bailey Jr. of Brandon and Robert Bailey of Forest Dale; three daughters, Linda Stone of Forest Dale, Carol Racine of Leicester and Pamela Sue Bailey of Brandon; a sister, Margaret Bailey of Brandon; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Aretta Shackett and Josephine Morcombe; and two brothers, Adrian Bailey and Nelson Bailey.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Brandon with the Rev. Richard White, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Hill cemetery.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, 05733, or the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department, in care of Chief Robert Kilpeck, 2 West Seminary St., Brandon, 05733.
