SHAFTSBURY — Ronald E. Cornell, 64, died Jan. 3, 2003, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Virginia Farnum Rites

MANCHESTER CENTER — The memorial service for Virginia S. Farnum, 79, who died Dec. 29, 2002, was held Friday at the Brewster Funeral Home with the Rev. Jordan Dickinson, associate pastor of the First Congregational Church of Manchester, officiating.

Burial followed in Factory Point cemetery.

Urn bearers were her sons, John Farnum and Joseph Farnum.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester Center.

Janet B. Wilcox Rites

POWNAL — The funeral service for Janet Baker Wilcox, 67, who died Dec. 28, 2002, was held Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Pownal with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn cemetery in Bennington.

Organist was Joan Cannell. Mrs. Wilcox’s grandson, Ryan, was soloist accompanied by his father, Noble Levesque on guitar.

Pallbearers were Noble Levesque, Richard Lawson, Matthew Lawson, Gary Niles, David Woodcock and Tom Otero.

Bertha Ives

BARRE — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, Jan. 2, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Monica Church for Bertha M. Ives of the Tilden House, who died Dec. 27, 2002, at the Berlin Health and Rehab. Center. The Rev. Peter Routhier, pastor of the church, was the celebrant.

Crucifer William Shannon led the Prayer of the Faithful.

Organist Angeline Ennis accompanied singers Rita LaPerle and Romeo Bilodeau in the hymns “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Ave Maria,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”

Grandson Jeremy Nelson read from the Old Testament and granddaughter Karen Pariseau read from the New Testament. Grandchildren, Kimberly Nelson, Timothy Oakes, Steven Pariseau and Brian Pariseau and great-grandchildren, Stephanie Pinney and Jessica Oakes brought the gifts to the altar.

The bearers were nephews, Ernest Hoadley Jr., William Griffin, Kurt Thurston, Gary French, William Guyette and Scott Guyette. Entombment was made in the Elmwood Vault to await burial in St. Theresa cemetery in Hyde Park.

The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home was in charge.

Margaret McNelley

GRANVILLE, N.Y. — Margaret McNelley, 95, died Dec. 22, 2002, at Indian River Nursing Home.

She was born April 29, 1907, in Allendale, N.J.

She taught fourth grade in the Granville school system for many years.

Miss McNelley was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Granville and the Daughters of American Revolution.

She enjoyed the outdoors, especially geology, trees, wildflowers, astronomy and mountain climbing. She climbed Haystack Mountain and several other Vermont mountains.

Survivors include many cousins.

The memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial of ashes will take place in Lake Wood cemetery in Cooperstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, East Main Street, Granville, 12832.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville.

Mary K. Winslow

BURLINGTON — Mary Kathryn Winslow, 87, died Jan. 2, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center.

Survivors include a son, A. Michael Winslow of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Sarah Patch of South Burlington; a sister, Kathleen O’Brien of Murray, Utah; two brothers, Dr. Robert Gleason of Maderia Beach, Fla., and Jack Gleason of Englewood, Colo.; a grandson; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Aaron Winslow in 1978; a daughter, Nancy McCarthy in 1979; and a brother and a sister.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John Vianney Church, with burial following in Resurrection Park cemetery in South Burlington.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home, South Chapel, in Burlington.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 100 Mansfield Avenue, Burlington, 05401.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ready Funeral Home, South Chapel, in Burlington.

Beatrice E. Clark

BURLINGTON — A private gathering for Beatrice E. Clark, 86, who died Dec. 23, 2002, will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Green Mountain Chapter, DAR, in care of Lorraine Ferguson, 87 Kelley’s Field Road, 3C, Hinesburg, Vt., 05451.

Jean M. Hier

Jean M. Hier, 68, of Rutland Town, died Jan. 9, 2003, at her home.

She was born Sept. 19, 1934, in Proctor, the daughter of Francis and Alma (LaParle) Loomis.

She graduated from Brandon High School. She married Richard Hier in 1952.

Mrs. Hier worked at General Electric Co., retiring after many years of service.

She was a member of Christ the King Church.

She enjoyed casino gambling and berry picking.

Survivors include her husband of Rutland Town; two sons, John Hier and Christopher Hier, both of Rutland Town; a brother, Richard Loomis of Rutland; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Richard Hier in 2002; and two sisters, Bernedette Greeno and Marjorie Brown.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland with the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Calvary cemetery in Rutland.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse-Hospice, P.O. Box 787, Rutland, 05702.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Rosemary Viger

WELLS — Rosemary Viger, 64, died Jan. 9, 2003, at Haven Health Center in Rutland.

She was born May 26, 1938, in Wells, the daughter Leon and Gertrude (Leslie) Smith.

She worked as a waitress at Granville (N.Y.) Lanes for many years.

Survivors include her mother of Granville, N.Y.; a daughter, Tina Pedone of Granville, N.Y., a brother, Harold Smith of Bennington; one grandson and one granddaughter.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Smith and Leon Smith.

Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.

The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Peterson, pastor of the Granville (N.Y.) Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Wells cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.

Edith M. Briggs

BRANDON — Edith Muriel Briggs, 87, died Jan. 10, 2003, at her home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Herbert E. Clark Sr.

BRANDON — The funeral service for Herbert E. Clark Sr., 93, who died Jan. 6, 2003, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad Inc., P.O. Box 232, Brandon, 05733.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

John F. Shannon Rites

PITTSFORD — The funeral Mass for John F. Shannon, 74, who died Jan. 7, 2003, was celebrated Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford with the Rev. William Laliberte of Rutland officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Alphonsus cemetery in Pittsford.

Organist was Stu James.

Bearers were Clarence Greeno, Robert Ripley, Patrick Eugair, Charles Zakreski, Tim Shannon and John Smiel.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Kathleen M. Powers Rites

The funeral Mass for Kathleen M. Powers, 99, who died Jan. 6, 2003, was celebrated Friday at Christ the King Church in Rutland with the Rev. Reid C. Mayo, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Calvary cemetery.

Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton and soloist was Sister Francis Patrick.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Russell E. Lyons Rites

CASTLETON — The memorial service for Russell E. Lyons, 66, who died Jan. 5, 2003, was held Friday at the Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton with the Rev. Robert Bouffard, pastor of the Fellowship Bible Church, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen cemetery in Center Rutland.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton.

Donald M. Goodrich Rites

PROCTORSVILLE — The funeral Mass for Donald M. Goodrich, 77, who died Jan. 7, 2003, was celebrated Friday at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Proctorsville with the Rev. Joseph Romano officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Hillcrest cemetery in Proctorsville.

Organist was Pat Wilk and soloist was Linda Dunworth.

Pallbearers were Jason Gurdak, Sean Gurdak, Ryan Gurdak, Christopher Moonen, Geoffrey Moonen and Steven Westcott.

A reception was held in the parish hall at the Church of the Annunciation in Ludlow after the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Ludlow.
