James F. DeLong

PITTSFORD - James F. DeLong, 52, died Jan. 28, 2003, at Mountain View Center Genesis ElderCare in Rutland.

He was born Oct. 22, 1950, in Rochester, the son of Franklin and Dorothy (Hooker) DeLong.

He was a former resident of Wallingford, where he worked for the Sewer Department.

Mr. DeLong was a U.S. Army veteran.

He enjoyed reading, fishing and gold panning.

Survivors include three daughters, Shelly Davis and Victoria Forrest, both of Rutland, and Phaedra Washburn of Pittsford; a sister, Barbara Sawtell of North Chittenden; four grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian, in 1992; a son, Rueben, in 1977; and his mother in 2002.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Burial will take place at a later date in Riverside cemetery in Killington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Center, Activities Fund, 9 Haywood Ave., Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Chester T. Sharon

WELLS - Chester T. Sharon, 98, of Wells and Oak Island, N.C., died Jan. 25, 2003, in North Carolina.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Unlocking Autism, P.O. Box 237, Walker, La., 70785.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Henrietta E. Johnson Rites

BRANDON - The funeral service for Henrietta E. Johnson, 84, who died Jan. 26, 2003, was held Wednesday at the Brandon Congregational Church with the Rev. Richard White, pastor, officiating.

A private graveside service will take place at a later date in Pine Hill cemetery.

Pianist was Kim Nelson. Pallbearers were Nathan Johnson, Kenneth Napiorkowski, Craig Johnson and Brent Johnson.

Members of Marble Chapter 80 Order of the Eastern Star held a service at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home on Tuesday.

The family received friends in the church hall after the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Harry J. Lasell

SPRINGFIELD - Harry J. Lasell, 89, died Jan. 29, 2003, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, N.H.

He was born Aug. 5, 1913, in Williamstown, the son of Harry and Fern (Recor) Lasell.

He graduated from Springfield High School.

He married Polly-Anna Jones on Sept. 2, 1940, in Sudbury.

Mr. Lasell retired from Fellows Gear Shaper Co. in Springfield after 43 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and St. John's Masonic Lodge 41 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife of Westmoreland, N.H.; three sons, Harry Lasell Jr. of Walpole, N.H., Wayne Lasell of Charlotte, N.C., and Donald Lasell of Laconia, N.H.; two daughters, Barbara Combs of Morriston, Fla., and Lois Hammond of Englewood, Fla.; two brothers, Harvey Lasell of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Max Lasell of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Hallie Buskey of Hanover, N.H., and Rosemary Watkins of Winter Haven, Fla.;13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Fern Aust and Louise Robbins.

The memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Oakland cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel. Members of St. John's Masonic Lodge will conduct their service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, 10 Valley St., Springfield, 05156, or to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Ann Hussey

BENNINGTON - Ann Hussey, age 91, passed away peacefully at Crescent Manor Care Centers on January 28, 2003, following a long journey and struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born Anna Kowalczyk on October 2, 1911, in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Samuel Kowalczyka and Teadora Kateryna Czar, Ukrainian immigrants from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire's Carpathian Mountain Region. As a child, Anna learned to speak Ukrainian, Polish, and Hungarian before she ever learned English. She was educated at St. John's Greek Catholic Church School and also the New Jersey public school system.

Prior to her residency at Crescent Manor Care Centers, Ann made her home with her daughter, Carm Tofel and son-in-law Walter Tofel on Crestwood Drive in Bennington for six years; then living for a short while at Twin Maples Community Care Home prior to moving 18 months ago to Crescent Manor.

She was predeceased by three husbands, Walter Russell, Joseph Graziadel and Joseph Hussey. She was also predeceased by an infant sister, Mary Kowalczyk; and two brothers, John Kowalczyk and Michael Kowalczyk.

She leaves behind, in addition to her daughter and son-in-law in Bennington, two sons, Donald Russell of Toms River, New Jersey and Anthony Graziadei of Goteborg, Sweden. She also leaves five grandchildren, Laura Russell of Toms River, New Jersey, Linda Russell of Toms River, New Jersey, Michele Tofel-Murray and spouse Joseph Andrew Murray of Northfield, Vermont, Jonathan Paul Tofel and spouse Yvonne Ng Tofel of Cincinnati, Ohio and Boulder, Colorado, Angelica Graziadei of Goteborg, Sweden, plus two great-grandchildren, Brittany Marie Murray of Northfield, Vermont and Justin Aiden Murray of Northfield, Vermont.

Ann was baptized at St. John's Greek Catholic Church in Newark, New Jersey, where she was a parishioner and communicant through her young adult years. She later was a communicant of St. Benedict's Church in Newark, New Jersey, Holy Spirit Church in Union, New Jersey, and lastly, the old Sacred Heart Church on School Street in Bennington, Vermont.

Upon retiring after 25 years with Adamas Corporation in Kenilworth, New Jersey, Ann and her third husband relocated to Vermont which she always referred to as "God's Country." She enjoyed her retirement years while living on North Street and was an active participant of the Bennington Senior Center, enjoying the numerous trips and travel opportunities offered, as well as being a volunteer. Mrs. Hussey also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and tending her African violets. In later years, Ann enjoyed being a participant of Bennington Project Independence and also residing with the good folks at Twin Maples where she received excellent care and loving friendship. During her last 18 months of life she received compassionate skilled nursing care from the devoted staff at Crescent Manor Care Center's Alzheimer wing. On behalf of Ann, we thank Dr. Ghosh, all the nurses and aides for every kindness shown to Ann and to us during this journey.

Private funeral services and graveside committal at Park Lawn cemetery will be held in the springtime, at the convenience of the family. A "Panychida" memorial service in the Greek Catholic tradition of her childhood will be held at a later date. A memorial Mass will be offered for Ann at the Church of New Skete Monasteries in Cambridge, New York. Also, a memorial Mass will be said for Ann at St. John's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Newark, New Jersey, the church she was baptized in as an infant.

Arrangements are under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St., Bennington, Vermont.

Karen T. Raymond

LITTLETON, N.H. - Karen T. Raymond, 38, died Jan. 29, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

She was born Sept. 29, 1964, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the daughter of Fred and Sandra (Quimby) Page.

She graduated from the Austine School in Brattleboro, Vt.

She married Thomas Raymond on Oct. 5, 1996.

Mrs. Raymond worked in the bakery department at Butson's Market in Littleton for the past four years.

She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Littleton and the Austine School Alumni Association.

She enjoyed animals.

Survivors include her husband; her parents of Littleton; a sister, Heidi Page of Littleton; a brother, Barry Page of Whitefield; several aunts and uncles; two nieces, a nephew and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Ricker Funeral Home in Woodsville with the Rev. Barbara Thrall, pastor of All Saints Episcopal Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A time of fellowship will be held in the dining room of the Woodsville United Methodist Church following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Notch Humane Society, 59 West Main St., Littleton, 03561.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ricker Funeral Home in Woodsville.

Dorothy E. Garrity

BRATTLEBORO - Dorothy E. Garrity, 89, died Jan. 29, 2003, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.

Howard Reed

WALPOLE, N.H. - Howard Reed, 88, formerly of Brattleboro, Vt., and Hinsdale, died Jan. 28, 2003, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

Margaret G. Lilley

DELTONA, Fla. - Margaret G. Lilley, 86, formerly of Springfield and Chester, Vt., died Jan. 28, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She was born Dec. 26, 1916, in Montgomery, Vt., the daughter of Ellis and Gertrude (Gilmore) Rushford.

She graduated from Hartford (Conn.) High School and Johnson Normal School, where she received her teacher's certificate. Later she graduated from Lyndon State College with a bachelor's degree and the University of Vermont in 1970 with a master's degree.

She taught school in Chester and Springfield for many years and later in St. Johnsbury, for several years. Later she worked for the state of Vermont, training teachers in special education for several years, retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Lilley was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and the Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, and the Vermont Teachers Association.

She enjoyed gardening, swimming and skiing.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Parizo of Springfield; two stepsons, Erwin Lilley and Robert Lilley, both of Deltona; a stepdaughter, Sharon Anderson of Hyde Park, Vt.; a sister, Madgeline Carlisle of West Hartford, Conn.; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Young in 1975 and her second husband, Bernard Lilley in 2000; two brothers, Vincent Rushford and George Rushford; and a sister, Frances McVeigh.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Raymond Fornier of St. Joseph's Church in Chester, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in East Craftsbury cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt., 05602, or the Vermont Heart Association, 12 Hurricane Lane, Williston, Vt., 05495.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Willis H. Harris Rites

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral service for Willis H. Harris, 77, who died Jan. 24, 2003, was held Wednesday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in West Townshend with the Rev. Art Miller, pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date in Oakland cemetery in Springfield.

Pianist was Candace Hess.

Bearers were Seth Harris, David Harris, Mark Harris, Gary Lee, David Barry and Kevin Curtis.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
