Rosemary Sears Rites

The funeral service for Rosemary Sears, 50, of Rutland, who died April 3, 2003, was held Monday at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with the Rev. Bruce Bishop, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Rutland, officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Elizabeth C. Merrill Rites

KILLINGTON — The funeral service for Elizabeth C. Merrill, 71, who died April 3, 2003, was held Monday at the Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. Beverly Anderson, pastor of the Sherburne United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Riverside cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Killington Volunteer Fire Department, in care of Chief Steve Finer, RD, Killington, 05751, or the Sherburne United Church of Christ, in care of the Rev. Beverly Anderson, RD, Killington, 05751.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.

Elsie L. Bishop

WINDSOR — Elsie L. Bishop, 91, died April 7, 2003, at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction.

She was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Croydon, N.H., the daughter of Samuel and Frederikia (Lehtimackey) Anderson.

She received her education in Guild, N.H.

She married Edward Bishop on June 10, 1930, in Windsor. He died in 1963.

Mrs. Bishop worked as a nurse’s aide at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Windsor for 20 years until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor.

She enjoyed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, bicycling and knitting.

Survivors include a son, Edward Bishop Jr. of Oscoda, Mich.; five daughters, Elizabeth Wiley of Basehor, Kan., Margaret Rising of Windsor, Shirley Nelson of Alamogordo, N.M., Cynthia LaClair of Penacook, N.H., and Brenda Reed of Charlestown, N.H.; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth, in 1931; five brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor with the Rev. Paul Belhumeur, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis of Assisi cemetery in Windsor.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Historic Homes of Runnemede, 40 Maxwell Perkins Lane, Windsor, 05089.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home.

Robert R. Willis Sr.

WESTMINSTER — Robert R. Willis Sr., 60, died April 6, 2003, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 16, 1942, in Bellows Falls, the son of George and Beatrice (Whitaker) Willis.

He attended schools in Alstead, N.H., and Marlow, N.H.

He married Carol Lawrence on June 12, 1976, in Westminster.

Mr. Willis worked as a machine tender at Mountain Paper in Bellows Falls, at Santa’s Land in Putney, and retired from Melsur Corp. due to ill health.

He was a former member of the BPOE 1619 in Bellows Falls.

He was avid fisherman, and a fan of NASCAR races and the Earnhardt racing team.

Survivors include his mother, Beatrice Carpenter of Houghton, Maine; his stepmother, Mable Willis of Marlow, N.H.; his wife of Westminster; a son, Robert Willis Jr. of Westminster; a daughter, Cora Willis of Tigard, Ore.; a half brother, John Carpenter of Winchester, N.H.; three stepbrothers, William, Sidney and Frank Willis; and a half sister, Johnica Aldrich of Houghton, Maine.

He was predeceased by his father and a sister, Joyce Downs.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.

Leonard W. Morin

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. — Leonard W. Morin, 75, died April 6, 2003, at Albany Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Bennington, Vt., the son of Leonard Morin and Ella (Rose) Morin Kennedy.

He received his education in Bennington and earned a degree in nursing at Rockland Community College.

He married Roberta Watson on July 10, 1948, in Bennington.

Mr. Morin worked at Sprague Electric, and later as a nursing administrator for the state of New York at Letchworth Village in Thiells, a school for the developmentally disabled.

While living in Stony Point, he was in charge of the blood drive, and did volunteer work for the blind and visually impaired.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of Cambridge; two sons, Leonard Morin of Cambridge and Jeffrey Morin of Pine Bush; two daughters, Michelle Manglass of Tomkins Cove and Christie Garland of Stafford, Va.; a sister, Rosella Wenzel of Sugar Hill, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, Vt., 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Dorothy M. Wilcox Rites

MANCHESTER — The funeral Mass for Dorothy M. Wilcox, 95, who died April 3, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Paul’s Church in Manchester Center with the Rev. John Whalen, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Dellwood cemetery in Manchester Village.

Organist was Steve Kloser and soloist was Margaret Dawedeit.

Pallbearers were Craig Wilcox, Matthew Wilcox, Michael Wilcox, Gregory Wilcox, Adam Wilcox and Mark Scott.

Members of Court St. Rita, Catholic Daughters of America offered a memorial service Sunday afternoon at the Brewster Funeral Home, and the vigil service was offered Sunday evening by the Rev. Whalen.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester Center.

Lorraine Smith Rites

BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Lorraine Smith, 82, who died April 3, 2003, was held Saturday at the Church of God in Bennington with the Rev. Philip Garippa and the Rev. Amy Arnold officiating. Burial followed in Hinsdillville cemetery in North Bennington.

Organist was Louise Gauthier and pianist was Lydia Denue. Soloists were the Rev. Garippa and the Rev. Arnold.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Tim Smith, Barry Hayes, Jeffrey Hayes, Joe Smith, Kevin Loveland and Joshua Smith.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Mary Marsh

NEW HAVEN — Mary Marsh, 75, of New Haven and Fountain Hills, Ariz., died March 23, 2003, at Scottsdale Healthcare Center.

She was born in 1928 in Burlington, the daughter of Harland and Ida (Lamb) Palmer.

Mrs. Marsh was raised in New Haven, where she spent the majority of her life. She was active in politics, and in 1976 was the first woman in the state of Vermont to be elected to the office of selectwoman.

She was involved in economic development at the county and state level. She held the position of town manager in Williamstown. After moving to Fountain Hills, she held the position of manager of the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce, and later worked in the Phoenix Indian Center as manager of the economic development programs. She was also the director of the Cattle Community Alliance, working to keep high school-age children off drugs.

Survivors include two daughters, Marianne Adams of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Kathy Forand of Bristol; three sons, Gordon Marsh of Whiting, Robert Marsh of Cumberland, Maine, and David Marsh of Fountain Hills; her stepmother, Jenny Palmer of New Haven; a sister, Kathleen Parker of Mira Loma, Calif.; four brothers, Charles Palmer of Ripton, George Palmer, Pat Palmer and John Palmer, all of New Haven; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Marsh Sr.; her father; a sister, Ruth Williams; and a granddaughter.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated April 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church. Burial will take place in Evergreen cemetery in New Haven.

Friends may call Sunday, April 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Have a Heart Food Shelf, in care of Rebecca Price, 928 Stony Hill Road, Bristol, 05443.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown-McClay Funeral Home.

Lesly Lazur

The Memorial Mass for Lesly Lazur, 52, who died April 6, 2003, at her home will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Christ the King Church.

Surviving are a son, Greggory Jones of Rutland; her fiancé, Phil Pratico of Rutland; a brother, Greggory Carpenter Sr. of San Diego, Calif.; half brothers, Gerald Lloyd of Rutland and Edward Lloyd of Ridgewood, N.J.; half sisters, Mary Short of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Margaret Parks of the state of Georgia; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Lloyd.

She had an interest in art and expressed her talent in pencil work and paintings. Her special times were spent in Maine by the ocean.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vermont Psychiatric Survivors, 1 Scale Ave., Suite 52, Bldg. 14, Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Ronald W. Colomb

COCOA, Fla. — Ronald W. Colomb, 69, died April 6, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 21, 1933, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Lois (LaPoint) and John Colomb.

He had worked at Vermont Marble Co. for several years, and retired from the Rutland Plywood Co.

Mr. Colomb served in the U.S. Army.

He was a longtime resident of Rutland, and a member of St. Peter’s Church, American Legion Post 31 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles before he relocated to Florida.

He enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Lois (Delvineri) Colomb of Cocoa; three daughters, Malwina Cook of Saratoga, N.Y., Barbara Favreau of Ira and Patricia Leonard of Hewitt, N.J.; a son, Edward Colomb of Salt Lake City, Utah; two stepdaughters, Terry Didonado of Northfield, N.H., and Erica Coloutti of Poultney, Vt.; three stepsons, Walter Manney of Rutland, Vt., Henry Manney of Port St. John, Fla., and David Manney of Cocoa; two sisters, Lois Fitzgerald and Evelyn LaPoint; three brothers, Hugh Colomb, James Colomb and Michael Colomb; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two wives, Helen (Poczobut) Colomb and Joan (Bosworth) Colomb; a sister, Jean; and three brothers, John, Robert and Reginald.

The memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland, Vt.

There will be no calling hours.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the residence of Mike and Judy Colomb following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church Renovation Fund, 134 Convent Ave., Rutland, 05701.
