Emory J. Swinyer

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Dr. Emory James Swinyer, 93, died April 8, 2003, at his home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1909, in Lincoln, Vt., the son of Parker and Emma (Odett) Swinyer.

He graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine.

He married Avis Simpson in 1939.

Dr. Swinyer practiced family medicine for 40 years, first in Richford, Vt., and then in Poultney, retiring in 1978.

He was active in the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. Leonard Swinyer of Salt Lake City and Dr. Bruce Swinyer of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Elaine Swinyer of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Irene Domina Haupert of Salt Lake City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

The memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary in Salt Lake City.

Reginald C. Wilson

TAVARES, Fla. — Reginald C. Wilson Jr., 68, a former resident of North Clarendon, Vt., died April 5, 2003.

Survivors include two daughters, Kelli Young of Wallingford, Vt., and Kimberly Sills of Portland, Ore.; a son, Keith Wilson of Otego, N.Y.; three sisters, Judy Webster, Linnea Colburn and Rebecca Wilson of the Rutland, Vt., area; six grandchildren; seven nieces and a nephew; and his companion, Lorrie Parsons.

The memorial service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will take place at a later date in East Clarendon cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland South Rotary Club, P.O. Box 511, Rutland, 05702, American Cancer Society, Vermont Division Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, 05602, or the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass., 01701-4688.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.

Ann Wilbur

SOUTH BURLINGTON — Ann Wilbur, 86, died April 8, 2003, of leukemia at her home.

She was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Marquette, Mich., the daughter of William and Anna (Ourada) McCormick.

She attended Menominee (Mich.) High School and graduated from College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., with bachelor’s degrees in library science.

She married Roland Wilbur on April 23, 1949, in Springfield, Mass.

Mr. Wilbur worked as a librarian in the Flint (Mich.) school system, and later as a bookmobile librarian at the Regional Library in Greenfield, Mass.

She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES as a Link trainer-instructor and oversaw the phasing out of the Link Department at the end of World War II.

She was a member of St. John’s Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington

Survivors include her husband; a son, Stephen Wilbur of Essex Center; two daughters, Mary Peloquin of St. Michael, Minn., and Linda of South Burlington; and three grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Vianney Catholic Church. Burial will take place at a later date in Tinmouth cemetery in Tinmouth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Committee on Temporary Shelter, P.O. Box 1616, Burlington, 05402.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel in Burlington.

Antoinette Bellomo

Funeral services for Antoinette Bellomo, 87, of Rutland, who died April 6, will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Surviving are three sons, three daughters and her six grandchildren, Jeffrey Bellomo, Kevin Bellomo and Lisa Susmann of Rutland, Nathan Bellomo of San Ramon, California, Marissa Boylan of Woodstock, Georgia and Kelly Rice of Birmingham, Alabama, and two great grandchildren, Ryan and Kristina Bellomo.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Gordon S. Patterson Rites

The funeral Mass for Gordon S. Patterson, 75, of Rutland, who died April 4, 2003, was celebrated Tuesday at Christ the King Church with the Rev. Thomas Mattison, assistant pastor, officiating.

Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton and vocalist was Sister Francis Patrick Dunn.

Mr. Patterson was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Steven J. Molnar Sr. Rites

The funeral service for Steven J. Molnar Sr., 75, of Rutland, who died April 3, 2003, was held Tuesday at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

The Rev. Francis Privé, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rutland, officiated. Interment followed in St. Joseph’s cemetery with burial to take place at a later date.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

William J. Demetrules

CORINTH — William J. Demetrules, 88, died April 6, 2003, at his home.

He was born March 18, 1915, in Greece, the son of James and Panagiota (Karamitsanis) Demetrules.

He and his mother immigrated in 1928 to the United States, where they joined Mr. Demetrules in Hanover, N.H.

He attended schools in White River Junction and worked in his father’s tailor shop.

He later worked at Ben Franklin 5 & 10 in White River Junction, and in various Greek restaurants and candy shops in the area. He worked at the Chimes Restaurant in Bellows Falls for a year. In 1958 he started Bill’s Restaurant in Bradford. He retired in 1974 due to ill health.

Mr. Demetrules served in the U.S. Army as a chef in San Francisco.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Long) Demetrules, whom he married Dec. 27, 1968; a son, James Demetrules of Steinhatchee, Fla., and Enosburg; a daughter, Eleni Demetrules of New York City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, George Demetrules, in 1969.

The funeral service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home in Bradford. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the George Demetrules Scholarship Fund, Oxbow High School, Bradford, 05033.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hale Funeral Home of Bradford.

J. E. Badger

WILDER — J. Elsine Badger, 72, died April 8, 2003, at her home.

She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Hanover, N.H., the daughter of Alden and Gladys (Reynolds) Bond.

She graduated from Hanover High School in 1949.

She married Wendall Badger on Sept. 25, 1949. He died in 1995.

Mrs. Badger worked as a secretary in the dietary department at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital for 42 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Church in White River Junction and served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of St. Martha’s Guild and American Legion Auxiliary in Chester.

She enjoyed reading, cross-stitch and knitting, and cooking.

Survivors include a brother, Donald Bond of Florida; a sister, Nancy French of Quechee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Harrington; and a nephew.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church in White River Junction. Burial will take place at a later date in the Christian Street cemetery in Wilder.

Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 749 Hartford Ave., White River Junction, 05001.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Daisy A. Carleton

CHESTER — Daisy a. Carleton, 75, died April 5, 2003, at her home.

She was born June 7, 1927, the daughter of Robert and Jennie (Bemis) Thomas.

She married Hollis Carleton on March 9, 1946.

Mrs. Carleton was a member of the Congregational Church in Chester, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 67 in Chester, the Grange and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Ludlow.

She enjoyed bingo and rodeos.

Survivors include a son, Robert Carleton; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband; and two brothers, Floyd Thomas and Willie Thomas.

The graveside service will be held Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. in Pleasantview cemetery in Chester.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Chester Visiting Nurse’s Association, P.O. Box 401, Chester, 05143, the Chester Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 913, Chester, 05143, or the VNH Area Hospice.

Robert S. Rodgers

CHESTER — Robert S. Rodgers, 66, died April 6, 2003, at Springfield Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Mafalda M. Gillette

SPRINGFIELD — Mafalda M. “Muffy” Gillette, 83, died April 5, 2003.

She was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Springfield, Mass.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Stevens) Gillette; two sons, Anthony Gillette and Mitchell Gillette; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Cleon Gillette.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. at her home in Springfield.
