Lesly Lazur Rites

The memorial Mass for Lesly Lazur, 52, who died April 6, 2003, was celebrated Wednesday at Christ the King Church with the Rev. Thomas Mattison, assistant pastor, officiating.

Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton and vocalist was Sister Francis Patrick Dunn.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Robert S. Rodgers

CHESTER — Robert S. Rodgers, 66, died April 6, 2003, at Springfield Hospital.

He was born May 2, 1936, in Randolph, the son of Kenneth and Blanche (Frary) Rodgers.

He attended school in South Royalton.

He married Priscilla Arbuckle on May 13, 1959, in South Royalton.

Mr. Rodgers drove large semi trucks for several transportation companies in the area, including Tewksbury Trucking in Charlestown, N.H., and Brattleboro Haulage of Brattleboro. He retired in 2000.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Chester; a son, James Rodgers of Bellows Falls; a daughter, Sharon Lester of Chelsea; a brother, William Rodgers of South Royalton; two sisters, Rachel Gibbs of Graniteville and Lucille Broadwell of South Royalton; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert Rodgers; a daughter, Sandra Rodgers; and a brother, Calvin Rodgers.

The graveside service will be held at a later date in Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Kathleen Ruth DeGrasse

CHESTER — Kathleen Ruth DeGrasse, 59, of Chester, Vt., died peacefully with her family and friends at her side at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, N.H., on April 7, 2003.

She was born January 5, 1944, in Southbridge, Mass., the daughter of Gordon Matava and Mary Nowak.

Kathy was a loving wife to her husband Melvin. She was devoted to her son Greg Chico and his children, Christopher, Elizabeth and Dillion of Chester. Also her daughter and husband, Amanda and Bret Hazeltine and their daughter Isabelle of Middle Grove, N.Y.

She is survived by her sister, Diane Spalding of Norwood, Pa.; brothers, Anthony and John Nowak; and mother, Mary Nowak.

Kathy was predeceased by her father, Gordon Matava; and a special grandmother, Ruth Tucker; and a brother, Gordon Matava.

Kathy leaves behind many friends who will greatly miss her sense of humor, strength and kind spirit.

A family service will take place in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Chester Volunteer Rescue Squad Inc., P.O. Box 913, Chester, Vt., 05143 in memory of Kathy.

LeRoy K. Warren Sr.

LUDLOW — LeRoy K. Warren Sr., 80, died April 8, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born May 24, 1922, in Springfield, the son of LeRoy and Gladys (Longe) Warren.

He attended Springfield public schools.

He married Evelyn Ellison on Aug. 27, 1949, in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Mr. Warren worked at Jones and Lamson Machine Co. as a machinist for 43 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the 100th Infantry Division and at the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a member of the Tyson Congregational Church, and a longtime member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge 41 in Springfield and the Black River Lafayette Lodge 85 F&AM in Ludlow. He also was a member of the Mount Sinai Shrine Temple 3, the Cairo Temple of Rutland, the Red Cross of Constantine, the Knights of the York Cross of Honor, the National Sojourners, Heroes of ‘76, Knights Templar Commandry, the Ancient Accepted Scotttish Rite, Skitchewaug Chapter 25, Springfield Council 18, Green Mountain York Rite College 139 and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of American Legion Post 36 and a life member of the Robert L. Johnson Post 771 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Warren received his private pilot’s license in 1975.

Survivors include his wife of Ludlow; two sons, LeRoy Warren Jr. of Poulsbo, Wash., and Richard Warren of Starksboro; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and several nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Warren in 1983.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Jane Buswell of Ludlow officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland cemetery in Springfield.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Chapel. A Masonic service is at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tyson Congregational Church, in care of Jane Wallace, Treasurer, 1358 Route 100 North, Ludlow, 05149, or the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, Mass., 01104.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

William G. McLaughlin

BENNINGTON — William G. McLaughlin, 65, died April 9, 2003, at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

He was born Oct. 14, 1937, in Millinocket, Maine, the son of Clarence and Irene (Michaud) McLaughlin.

He attended school in Maine.

Mr. McLaughlin was an engineer and produced printed circuit boards. He worked for General Electric in Conshocton, Ohio for 10 years, Oak-Mitsui in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and companies in Europe, Lisbon, Maine, and Stamford, Conn., where he taught students of the trade.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 567 in Bennington.

He had served as a Cub Scout leader, held a private pilot’s license and enjoyed golf.

Survivors include his son, Scott McLaughlin of Bennington; two daughters, Catherine Elliott and Dawn McLaughlin, both of Bennington; a brother, Daniel McLaughlin of Maine; four sisters, Cherry Young of North Carolina, Candace Johnson, Jeanne McLaughlin and Lisa McLaughlin, all of Maine; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his former wife of 36 years, Phyllis Eastman of Bennington; aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Robert Lebert, pastor of Harvest Christian Ministries, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Park Lawn cemetery in Bennington.

Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of Elks Lodge 567 will conduct their memorial service at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Warm the Children’s Fund, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Arrangement are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Robert Ward

BRATTLEBORO — Robert Ward, 68, died April 9, 2003, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1935, in Bellows Falls, the son of Ira and Ruth (White) Ward.

He attended schools in Bellows Falls.

Survivors include a brother, Harold Ward of Barre; five sisters, Beverly McLean, Barbara Sileski and Carolyn Stevens, all of Bellows Falls, Sally Madden of Florida and Catherine Wyman of Swanzey, N.H.; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Longfellow) Ward in 2001; two brothers, Douglas and Kenneth Ward; and a sister, Marion.

The graveside service will take place at a later date in Morningside cemetery in Brattleboro.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.

David A. Robinson Rites

SPRINGFIELD — The memorial service for David A. Robinson, 39, who died April 2, 2003, was held Tuesday at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Richard Cederholm, pastor of the North Springfield Baptist Church, officiating. A private family burial took place Wednesday in Oakland cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Dr. Edward F. Houlihan

DORSET — Dr. Edward Francis Houlihan, 72, died April 9, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.

Robert B. Dewey Sr.

BENNINGTON — Robert Bradford Dewey Sr., 86, died April 9, 2003, at Vermont Veterans Home.

He was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Albany, N.Y., the son of Edward and Janet Drysdale (Shurtleff) Dewey.

He graduated from Bennington High School in 1934, and continued his education at Irving Preparatory School in Tarrytown, N.Y., and Brown University in Providence, R.I.

He married Dorothy Bush on Jan. 22, 1942, in Malone, N.Y.

Mr. Dewey worked as a lumberman throughout his life, first in the woods cutting trees, and later as a lumber product buyer working for Green Mountain Furniture, H.T. Cushman Manufacturing Co. and General Interiors.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during World War II in the South Pacific as a navigator.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bennington.

Mr. Dewey enjoyed designing and building furniture, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Bennington; four sons, Edward Dewey and Robert Dewey Jr., both of Bennington, Bradford Dewey of Tampa, Fla., and Rodney Dewey of Island Pond; three daughters, Sandra Sullivan of Rensselaer, N.Y., Julia Kraus of Westford, Mass., and Deborah Kiernan of Slate Hill, N.Y.; many grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private funeral service will be held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in Park Lawn cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

EAST MIDDLEBURY — John S. Lash, 52, died April 9, 2003.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury.
