Albert L. Dimick

PROCTOR — Albert Louis Dimick, 78, died Aug. 10, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 23, 1923, in West Rutland, the son of William and Elizabeth (Duncan) Dimick.

He married Roselyn Woods on Sept. 17, 1950, in Proctor.

Mr. Dimick had worked as a farmhand for several years, in building demolition in the Castleton area, and at the Staco Plant for several years. He also worked for Vermont Marble as a crane operator in the West Rutland Lime Plant and at Patch-Wagner for a few years. He later established his own business, Al’s Rubbish Removal, which he operated for 30 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II with the 409th Infantry Regiment, and was involved in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648 in Rutland, American Legion Post 50 in Castleton, National Rifle Association and the Mendon Fish & Game Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to flea markets.

Survivors include his wife of Proctor; a stepson, Loren Durkee of Rutland; a stepdaughter, Leslie Williams of Frederick, Md.; a brother, Gordon Dimick of Rutland; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and seven cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, William Dimick Jr., and a sister, Alvira Dimick.

The graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice Inc., 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven.

Mr. George R. “Bud” Thayer Sr.

FAIR HAVEN — Mr. George Robert “Bud” Thayer Sr., 74, died Monday morning, August 12, 2002, at the Haven Health Center in Rutland after a long illness.

George was born on October 13, 1927, in Rutland, Vermont, the son of the late George Thomas and Mary Agnes (Lafley) Thayer. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during WWII.

After returning home from the service in 1948, “Bud” became employed in the construction trade as an oiler and mechanic working on heavy equipment for various construction companies, which entailed traveling throughout the entire eastern seaboard for over thirty years, retiring on October 13, 1989. After his retirement, he was employed for several years as the sexton of St. Mary’s cemetery in his hometown of Fair Haven.

“Bud” was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven, a thirty-five year member of the BPOE 1491 of Whitehall, N.Y., a former member of the Crippen Fellows Post 50 of Castleton and presently the American Legion Post 49 of Fair Haven which he has been a member for fifteen years and the AARP since 1989. He was also a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO Local 98 of East Longmeadow, Mass.

Mr. Thayer is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Mrs. Gail (Erwin) Thayer of Fair Haven, his daughter, Ann M. Thayer and her companion, Richard A. Wells of Fair Haven, his son, George R. Thayer Jr. and his wife, Ruth of Jacksonville, Ariz., his sister, Mrs. Eileen T. Brough and his Aunt, Mrs. Grace Thayer, both of Rutland, Vt., his three grandchildren, one great-grandson, and also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 No. Main St. Fair Haven. The Rev. Richard W. Tinney, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow the services in St. Mary’s cemetery in Fair Haven.

Visiting Hours for family and friends will be on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in memory of Mr. Thayer may be given to the St. Mary’s cemetery Fund through the funeral home office at P.O. Box 86, Fair Haven, Vt., 05743.

Francis E. Wetherby

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Francis E. Wetherby, 75, died Aug. 9, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Danby, Vt., the son of Omar and Irene (Kelly) Wetherby.

He was employed by the LP gas industry, retiring in 1989.

Mr. Wetherby was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of CB radio clubs and the Family Motor Coach Association.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia (Sprague) Wetherby of Lexington; three daughters, Joan Poczobut of Rutland, Vt., Marlene Ricci of Lexington and Betty Trombley of Fort Edward, N.Y.; four sons, Scott Pinkham and John Wetherby, both of Rutland, Randy Pinkham of Greenfield, Mass., and Michael Pinkham of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Ruth McGuire of Poultney, Vt., and Beverly Jones of Clarendon, Vt.; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Vermont in early October.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to David’s House, P.O. Box 660, 461 Mount Support Road, Lebanon, N.H., 03766.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes in Lexington.

Esther M. Mathews

BOMOSEEN — A celebration for the life of Ester M. Mathews, 83, a former resident of Arlington, who died June 30, 2002, will be held Friday at the Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. Brad Clark, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church of Arlington, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, in care of Aldous, 44 North Main St., Rutland, 05701, or to Castleton First Responders, P.O. Box 727, Castleton, 05735.

John R. Murray Rites

PITTSFORD — The graveside service for John Rockwell Murray, 78, who died Friday was held Monday in St. Mary’s cemetery in Brandon with the Rev. Skip Baltz, pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Brandon, officiating.

American Legion Post 55 of Brandon offered a service under the direction of Commander Larry Baker and provided military honors. Chaplain Norm Reed presented the flag to the family.

Bearers were Shannon Murray, Richard Foy, Glen Billings, Wallace Kimball, Kurt Kimball and Jason Kimball.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Gertrude J. Bolster

SUNDERLAND — Gertrude J. Bolster, 87, died Aug. 12, 2002, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Arlington, the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Buck) Ennis.

She received her education in local schools.

She married Ernest Bolster on July 16, 1931, in Sunderland. He died in 1995.

Mrs. Bolster had been employed at the former Hale Co. in East Arlington, the Hill Farm Inn in Sunderland, and as a greeting card maker for the Polygraphic Co.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest Bolster Jr. of White Creek, N.Y., and Henry Bolster of Sunderland; six daughters, Charlotte Lampman, Patricia Delaney and Linda O’Connell, all of Sunderland, Helen Tudor of Manchester Center, Martha Violette of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., and Diane Jennings of Arlington; a brother, Donald Ennis of Sunderland; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Paul Ennis, James Ennis, Henry Ennis and David Ennis; and three sisters, Pauline Johnson, Anna Thayer and Mary Johnson.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Federated Church in East Arlington with the Rev. Jordan Dickinson, associate pastor of the First Congregational Church in Manchester, officiating. Burial will follow in Ira Allen cemetery in Sunderland.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, Vermont Affiliate, through the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Anna C. Brier

NORTH BENNINGTON — Anna C. Brier, 92, a former longtime resident of Philadelphia, Pa., died Aug. 11, 2002, at Prospect Nursing Home in North Bennington.

She was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Philadelphia, the daughter of John and Susanna (Martin) Kolling.

She received her education in the Philadelphia schools and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1928.

She married George Brier on June 28, 1930, in Philadelphia. He died in 1990.

Mrs. Brier was employed as a secretary at the U.S. Navy Supply Depot in Philadelphia for more than 30 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Rzewski of South Dennis, Mass., and Nancy Turner of Tucson, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church in Philadelphia. Burial will follow in Lawnview cemetery in Rockledge, Pa.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington and the Campbell Funeral Home in Philadelphia.

Harold Rogers Jr.

BRATTLEBORO — The graveside service for Harold Rogers Jr., 73, a former resident of Randolph, who died June 21, 2002, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph with the Rev. Robin Junker of Bethany United Church of Christ officiating.

A reception will follow the service at the family farm in Bethel Gilead.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Albert J. Catelotti Rites

SHAFTSBURY — The funeral Mass for Albert Joseph Catelotti, 81, who died Aug. 9, 2002, was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington with the Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, associate pastor, and the Rev. Michael A. Demasi co-officiating. Burial followed in Bellevue cemetery in Adams, Mass.

Organist was Donald McMahon. Flutist was Michele Goodhue and guitarist was Henry Simpatico. Bagpiper was Todd Smith. Soloist was Kendra St. John.

American Legion Post 254 in West Stockbridge, Mass., and the 1018th Qm. Co. in Schenectady, N.Y., provided military honors. Christopher Cassano presented the flag to Mr. Catelotti’s wife, Palma. Taps were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Pallbearers were Bob Talbot, Glenn Parent, Edward St. John Jr., Tim Goodhue, Layton Durkee, Tim Armstrong, Joey Roy and Rene Cassano.

A remembrance meal and time of sharing was held for family and friends at St. Francis Parish Hall after the graveside service.

A vigil service was offered Sunday evening at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington by the Rev. Coppola.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Rose J. Jasinski Rites

SPRINGFIELD — The funeral Mass for Rose J. Jasinski, 77, who died Aug. 8, 2002, was celebrated Monday at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield with the Rev. Joseph Romano, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Organist was Rafal Nowak, who accompanied the Rejoice Choir.

Bearers were Chester Jasinski, Michael Jasinski, Vito DeMarco and Herbert Vigo.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Gordon H. Lyons Rites

BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Gordon H. Lyons, who died Aug. 8, 2002, was held Monday at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, associate pastor of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn cemetery.

American Legion Post 13 provided military honors. Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk presented the flag to Mr. Lyons’ wife, Patricia. Taps were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Bearers were William Rogers Sr., Glen Thurber, Carl Capella, Michael Vince Sr., Larry Lauzon, Peter Lemieux, Brian Oakes and Lew Levin.

A reception was held at the Vermont Steak House in Bennington following the service.

Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion Post 13 and the Bennington Elks Lodge conducted their services Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
