Alexandra E. Palmer

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Alexandra Ellis Palmer, 68, died May 20, 2003, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

She was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Westminster, Vt., the daughter of Katharine and Robie Palmer.

She worked as the assistant to The New York Times style editors for 45 years.

Survivors include a sister, Georgiana Cheney of Walpole, N.H., and Wilton, Conn.; and a brother, Ambassador Mark Palmer of Washington, D.C.

The memorial service will be held Monday, June 9, at 6 p.m. at St. Clement’s Church in New York City. Burial will take place in Vermont at the convenience of the family.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.

Carroll J. Underwood

NORTH SPRINGFIELD — An open house in remembrance of Carroll J. Underwood, 69, who died May 31, 2003, will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in the Lafayette Room in Springfield.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Winston H. Derby

Beverly R. Derby

LONDONDERRY — There will be a graveside service for Winston H. Derby and Beverly R. Wood Derby on Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. in Riverside cemetery in Londonderry.

A reception at Flood Brook School in the cafeteria will follow the service.

Memorial contribution in lieu of flowers may be made to a favorite charity.

W. Stanley Wood

RANDOLPH — The graveside service for W. Stanley “Stub” Wood, 92, who died Dec. 8, 2002, will be held Saturday in Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph with the Rev. James Lupton officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Allen H. Butterfield

BETHEL — The graveside service for Allen H. Butterfield, 78, who died Feb. 26, 2003, will be held Monday, June 9, at 2 p.m. in Maplewood cemetery on Stockbridge Common with the Rev. Ronald Rilling officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Dorothea F. Peckham Rites

BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Dorothea F. Peckham, who died May 29, 2003, was celebrated Monday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, associate pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Park Lawn cemetery.

Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray.

Bearers were William Hurley, Charles Becker, Alexander Mahar and John Mahar.

A reception was held at the parish center following the committal service.

The wake service was offered Sunday at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home by the Rev. Coppola.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Raymond J. Harwood Rites

NORTH BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Raymond J. Harwood, who died May 29, 2003, was held Monday at the United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Shaftsbury Village cemetery.

Organist was George Paulin. Guitarists and soloists were Steve Raymond and Kerry Cameron.

American Legion Post 13 of Bennington and members of the 109th Base Honor Guard from the Stratton Air National Guard in Scotia, N.Y., provided military honors. The flag was presented to Mr. Harwood’s daughter, Eileen by Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk. Taps were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Bearers were grandchildren Joshua Harwood, Caleb Harwood, Nathaniel Cady, Jacob Cady, Lucas Cady, Michelle Mauri, Hannah Harwood and Jeff Yenter.

A reception was held in the church hall following the committal service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Daniel D. Bugnacki

LEICESTER — Daniel Dominick Bugnacki, age 61, of Lake Dunmore, Leicester, passed away early Saturday morning, May 31, 2003, at his home in Leicester following a courageous battle with cancer. Dan had been a full-time resident of Leicester since 2001 when he and his wife Mary moved following their retirement from New Britain, Conn., to their vacation home on Lake Dunmore.

Daniel was born in New Britain, Conn., on Jan 11, 1942. He was the son of Dominick and Sophie (Szymanski) Bugnacki. He grew up in New Britain where he received his early education. Daniel received his Bachelor’s Degree from Central Connecticut State University and his Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Wesleyan University. His professional career began as a Mathematics Teacher at his alma mater, New Britain High School. He completed his sixth year degree in administration at Southern Connecticut State University before becoming a Vice-Principal, House Master at New Britain High School. He retired as Principal of New Britain High School in 2000. Dan was truly a lover of life, a man for all seasons. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, tennis, skiing and stamp collecting. He made numerous friends throughout his lifetime, both in Connecticut and in Vermont. His family wishes thank neighbors, relatives and close friends who helped care for him in his illness. The family would especially like to thank the nurses, home health aides, hospice volunteers and all from Addison County Home Health and Hospice, as well as Dr. George Field and his wonderful staff.

Besides his wife, Mary (Parker) Bugnacki of Leicester, whom he married May 24, 1969, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Britain, Conn., he leaves two sons, Daniel Wesley Bugnacki and his wife Linnea, Mark and his fiancée Kathy Hayes. Dan leaves behind one grandchild, Grace Elizabeth Bugnacki, the daughter of Daniel and Linnea. He also leaves three sisters, Elizabeth Ludwinowicz of Southington, Conn., Patricia Jenosky of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Dolores Page of Coventry, Conn. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Betty Lundy of Fairport, N.Y. Daniel also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, who received his guidance and love through the years.

A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, June 13, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. For those who wish to remember Daniel in a special way, memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his memory to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, Vt., 05753, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 38 Carver St., Brandon, Vt., 05733, or to a scholarship fund in Daniel’s name at New Britain High School, in care of Paul Salina, 110 Mill St., New Britain, Conn., 06051.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Charles Sule

Charles Sule, 85, of Rutland died Nov. 5, 2000, at Genesis Elder Care Mountain View Center after a brief illness.

He was born May 21, 1915, in Proctor, son of Alex and Julia (Horvath) Sule.

He was employed at the Vermont Marble Co. and later at General Electric for 18 years, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Sule was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 31 and the First Baptist Church of Rutland.

Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Piscopo of Rutland and Christine Carlson of West Rutland; a brother, Ernest Sule of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will follow in East Clarendon cemetery.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society Inc., P.O. Box 558, Pittsford, 05763.

Carol J. Pacca

Carol J. Pacca, 68, of Pinellas Park, Fla., and formerly of Palm Harbor, Fla., died Nov. 5, 2000, at St. Petersburg General Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was born in Brattleboro. She lived in Rutland before moving to Homestead, Fla., in 1990.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Michael L. Pacca Sr.; a son, Michael L. Pacca Jr. of Homestead, Fla.; two daughters, Doris Prather of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Karen Friedman of Palm Desert, Calif.; three brothers, Harold Crossman of Florida, Gordon Crossman of Port Richey, Fla., and William Crossman of Proctor; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Family Funeral Home of Pinellas Park, Fla.

Leo George Ellis

FAIR HAVEN - Mr. Leo George Ellis, 85, a longtime resident of Fair Haven, died Monday, November 6, 2000, with hid family at his side, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

Leo was born on Nov. 9, 1914, in Castleton, Vt., the son of the late George and Kate (St. John) Ellis. He was educated in the Benson school system and he married Luella (White) Ellis on June 15, 1941. Mr. Ellis was employed for several years at the Taran Slate Company retiring from there in 1977. His enjoyments in life were playing Bingo with his wife and attending the Fair Haven Union High School sporting events.

Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Luella Ellis of Fair Haven, his son, Mr., Leland Ellis and daughter-in-law, Jan, of West Haven, hid granddaughter, Andrea Schroeder and her husband, David, of Pittsfield, Mass., his grandson, Adam Ellis of West Haven, his sister, Betty Jean Delphia of Blissville, his four brothers, Ralph Ellis and Earl Ellis of West Haven, Benjamin Ellis of Glens Falls, N.Y., an uncle and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Martha Bowen and two brothers, George Ellis and Raymond Ellis.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main Street, Fair Haven.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home. Lay Minister, Mrs. Mary Jane Eaton, will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.

A reception for relatives and friends will be held following the Committal services, at the Crippen Fellows Post #50, American Legion, Route 4A, Castleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Fair Haven Union High School Booster Club or to the West Haven Volunteer Fire Department through the office of the Durfee Funeral Home, P.O. Box 86, Fair Haven, Vt., 05743

Thomas P. Hughes IV

PROCTOR - Thomas Patrick Hughes IV, 38, died Nov. 4, 2000, in Opelike, Ala.

He was born May 17, 1962, in Proctor, son of Thomas Patrick Hughes III and Ardeena Hughes Harris.

He was employed as a manager of Wendy's in Opelike.

He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Hughes of Ashland, Ala.; his parents of Roanoke, Ala.; four stepsons, Cody Whaley and David Whaley of Lineville, Ala., and Tyler Whaley and Russell Whaley of Ashland; his grandfather, Charles Haughton of Vermont; a sister, Lorina Kelley of Roanoke; three brothers, David Hughes and Joe Hughes of Roanoke, and Shawn Hughes of Wedowee, Ala.; and three nieces and two nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church in Roanoke with the Rev. Lynn Martin, the Rev. Russell Abrams and the Rev. Andrew Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Mr. Hughes will lie in state in the church for one hour beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bearers are Micky Young, Greg Stephens, Wayne Quattlebaum, Glenn Shiffett, Michael White and David Kavetzki.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke.

Emily B. Korngiebel

CUTTINGSVILLE - Emily B. Korngiebel, 87, died Nov. 6, 2000, at Maple Terrace Community Care Home.

She was born May 9, 1913, in Garrison, N.Y., daughter of William M. and Charlotte (Prime) Benjamin.

She served on various committees at the Cuttingsville town office.

Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Richards of Milton, Mass., and Harry D. Korngiebel of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Gloria Benson of Cuttingsville; a brother, Samuel N. Benjamin of Southhampton, N.Y.; three sisters, Charlotte Carver of Salt Point, N.Y., Sarah Prentice of Cohasset, Mass., and Mary Herring of Harwood, Md.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Hoffman Benjamin and Hamilton Benjamin; and two sisters, Elizabeth McLane and Julia Haskell.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home of Rutland.

Lewis John Fortier Rites

SUDBURY - The funeral for Lewis John Fortier Sr., 88, who died Nov. 2, 2000, at his home, was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Brandon with the Rev. Gordon Bardos, rector, officiating. A graveside committal and burial followed in Pine Hill cemetery with the Rev. Janice Chilek, pastor of the Bridgewater Congregational Church, officiating.

Organist was Jeanette Hoff.

Bearers were Guy Baker of West Rutland, Chris Brant of Birmingham, Mich., Jimm Steele of Sudbury, Bobby Lawson of Mount Holly, Keith Baker of Pittsford and Charles Ferdette of Berlin. Honorary bearer was Bill Steele of Sudbury.

The family received friends at the home in Sudbury for a time of fellowship and reflection after the committal service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
