Ruth B. Chandler

PEACHAM — Ruth B. Chandler, 79, 3857 Bayley Hazen Road, Peacham, VT, died early Monday morning July 28, 2003, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born in Goffstown, NH, Dec. 2, 1923, daughter of F. Arthur and Dorothy (Taylor) Bartlett.

Ruth graduated from Keene Teachers College, Class of 1945. Upon graduation she taught in Andover, NH for one year and at Peacham Academy for two years.

On June 20, 1948 she married Maurice F. Chandler, to whom she was married for fifty-five years.

She was a member of the Peacham Congregational Church for over fifty years; member of church choir; Superintendent of the Sunday School where she also taught Sunday School; member of Lake View Grange; ballot clerk for the Town of Peacham and a school bus driver for the Town of Peacham. In later years she was a substitute teacher at Peacham Academy and was a member of the American Disability Act Committee. She and her husband were the first people who took care of the custodial duties at Peacham Elementary School when the school first opened. In her later years she was an avid reader, a gifted poet, she enjoyed arts and crafts, and especially valued family time above all else.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Maurice F. Chandler, Peacham, VT; two daughters, Gloria J. Chandler and companion Francis L. Keith III, Pittsford, VT and Patricia N. Blake and husband Robert F. Blake, West Rutland, VT; two sons, Alan M. Chandler and wife Donna L. Chandler, Georgia, VT and Paul L. Chandler, Peacham, VT; three grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great grandson; one sister Esther Galinat, Fryeburg, ME; one brother-in-law, Clifton Chandler, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; longtime friend and caregiver Ann Goss, former daughter-in-law, longtime friend and part-time caregiver, Darlene Gauthier, and a devoted friend and fellow reader George Spaulding.

She was predeceased by her brother Henry Bartlett, who was killed during World War II.

A calling hour will be Wednesday, July 30, 2003 from 7 to 8:00 PM at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, NH.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 1 PM at the Peacham Congregational Church, Peacham, VT. Rev. David Book will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Peacham cemetery, Peacham, VT

Dorothy Anderson

BRADFORD — Dorothy Anderson, 95, died July 28, 2003, at Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon, N.H., after a short illness.

She was born May 24, 1908, in Bradford, the daughter of Frederick and Lilla (Demar) Sanborn.

She attended Bradford schools and graduated from Teacher’s College in Middlebury.

In 1929 she married Nelson R. Greer. They moved in 1935 to Middleboro, Mass., where they owned and operated a large farm. In 1946 they moved to Orford, N.H.

She was later married to Elton Woodward of Orford and Arthur Anderson of Bradford, and they predeceased her.

Mrs. Anderson taught grade school in West Fairlee and Orford until her retirement. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Bradford until she was unable to attend services. For many years she held bible study in her home until moving to Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, N.H., 15 months ago.

An accomplished artist, she gave her oil painted landscapes away as appreciation gifts.

Survivors include two children, Joyce Gray of Lyme, N.H., and Richard Greer of Lewis, N.Y.; her children’s father, Nelson R. Greer of Charlestown, N.H.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Arthur Greer; two sisters, Madelyn Slack and Helen Sanborn; and two brothers, William Sanborn and Kendall Sanborn.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Bradford. Burial will follow in Orford Street cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Main Street, Bradford, 05033.

Bernadette A. F. Dzorni

MILFORD, Conn. — Bernadette A. Fields Dzorni, 86, of Trumbull died July 27, 2003, in St. Vincent Hospital in Bridgeport.

She was born March 4, 1917, in West Rutland, Vt., the daughter of Joseph and Anna Rogers Fields.

For the past four years she was a resident of St. Joseph Manor in Trumbull.

She was married to George Dzorni and they resided in Bridgeport and Milford for the remaining years of their lives together. He died in 1972.

During World War II, Mrs. Fields worked at Chance Vought and later as a supervisor at AVCO Lycoming, retiring in the early 1980s.

For many years she volunteered at the Senior Center in Milford, and also served on several committees for the AVCO retirement group.

She was an active member of St. Agnes Church in Milford.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling and vacationing with family and friends in New Jersey, Florida, Vermont and Canada.

Survivors include her nephew, Donald Fields of Fairfield; three nieces; and six grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased be her brothers, Francis, Leo, Albert and Maurice; and a sister, Blanche.

The funeral will be from the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St. on the Green, Milford, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. followed by a service in St. Agnes Church at noon. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Joseph Manor, 6448 Main St., Trumbull, Conn., 06411.

Steve P. Grabowski Rites

The funeral service for Steve P. Grabowski, 79, of Rutland Town, who died Sept. 2, 2002, was celebrated Friday at Christ the King Church with the Rev. Thomas P. Mattison, assistant pastor, officiating.

Concelebrant was the Rev. Frank Warzocha, pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in West Rutland. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. Warzocha officiating.

Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton and vocalist was Mary Jo Knapp.

Bearers were Fron Grabowski, Greg Perham, Steve Bania, Stanley Marchinkowski, Joe Bania and Ed Skovira.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

Robert C. Stone

Robert C. Stone, 60, of Rutland died Sept. 6, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Rutland, the son of Charles and Thelma (Smatresk) Stone.

He graduated from Rutland High School in 1959. He worked for Howe Scale Co. for many years.

Mr. Stone was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed trout fishing and carpentry.

Survivors include his parents of Rutland; a brother, John Stone of Rutland; a nephew; and several aunts and uncles.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Tossing Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward A. Hackett Jr., pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.

Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, 71 Williams St., Rutland, 05701, or the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, P.O. Box 787, Rutland, 05702-0787.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.

Louis P. Miglorie Jr.

Louis P. Miglorie Jr., 56, a former resident of Rutland, died Sept. 5, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Chester Peter Godrick Sr.

Chester “Chet” Peter Godrick Sr., 74, formerly of West Rutland, Vermont, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, September 4, 2002, at Mountainview Genesis Eldercare following a longtime difficult struggle with illness. He was born April 29, 1928, in Florence, Vermont, son of Kunegunda and Vincent Gwardyck (Godrick).

Chester graduated from Pittsford High School in 1946. He enlisted and served in the United States Navy immediately following completion of high school. On July 13, 1952, he married Antoinette Marie Tade. They made their home in West Rutland. Chet and Antoinette recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on July 13, 2002.

Chester was employed by Howe-Richardson Scale Company, and later by General Electric Company in Rutland for 25 years as a Specialized Tool and Die Maker. He, also, was sole proprietor of Godrick Refuse for over 30 years. For nine years, he actively served on the West Rutland Select Board.

Chester was a member of the American Legion for 25 years. He, also, belonged to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in West Rutland.

Chet loved fishing, hunting, gardening, reading, building things and listening to his daughters and son-in-law play music. He, especially, loved animals, particularly “his dogs.” He was a loving, devoted and wonderfully faithful husband for 50 years, and was a fabulous father — always doing for his family first and putting himself last. His family was his pride. He encouraged all of his children to follow their dreams: “He lived. He dreamed. He struggled that his wife and children could have the best. His sacrifices were many and quiet. His life was always love expressed.” His love for his family, friends and life was unconditional. His love for the simple things in life gave him much happiness.

Survivors include his wife, Antoinette Tade Godrick; a son, Chester Peter Godrick Jr. of Millersville, Md.; two daughters, Mary Godrick Sherowski of Hubbardton, Vt., and Sharon Ann Godrick of Rutland, Vt.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Godrick of Millersville, Md., and son-in-law, Edward Sherowski of Hubbardton, Vt.; two grandsons, Billy Joseph and C. Peter Godrick III, and a granddaughter, Kayla Marie Godrick; five sisters, Stella Godrick, Helen Kusina and Stephanie Giza, all of Rutland, Vt., Mary Simpson of Lansing, Mich., Frances Golec of Claremont, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Tade Carrigan of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Theodore Kusina Sr. of Rutland, Vt., and Rev. Howard Simpson of Lansing, Mich.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Janine Godrick; his parents, Kunegunda and Vincent Gwardyck (Godrick); and a nephew, Paul Kusina.

Friends and family may call at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002.

Prayers and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in West Rutland on Monday, Sept. 9, 2002.

Contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society, Rutland Area Hospice, or St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Renovation Fund, West Rutland, Vt.

Hilda Mintzer Ginsburg

Hilda Mintzer Ginsburg of New York City passed away on Sept. 5, 2002. Born in Rutland, Vermont in 1905, she later resided in New York City and Hollywood, Florida. She was predeceased in death by her husband, William I. Ginsburg.

She was a community volunteer and generous philanthropist to many charities and organizations as well as an avid golfer.

She is survived by two sons, Stanley (Jean) and Gary (Jan); a sister, Rhea Berger; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Ginsburg and Wendi Gowski (Ed); nieces, Roz Berger and Betsy Chase (Jim); nephew, Sam Ravit (Gail); two great-grandsons, Edward and Matthew Gowski.

A memorial service will be held at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel in New York City on Monday, Sept. 9, 2002. A memorial service will be held in Rutland, Vermont graveside at The Rutland Jewish cemetery. In her memory the family suggests donations to your favorite charity.

Lena Cote

WALLINGFORD — Lena Cote, 52, died Sept. 6, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 7, 1949, in Newport, the daughter of Donat and Lucille (Payeur) Bedard.

She grew up in Canada and relocated to the United States in 1984.

She married Denis Cote on May 12, 1983.

Mrs. Cote had been employed by the town of Wallingford in the Town Clerk’s Office, J.C. Penny for several years and most recently by Banknorth as a teller.

She loved the ocean.

Survivors include her husband of Wallingford; a daughter, Karoline Pfeiler of Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.; a son, Dany Cote of Wallingford; a stepdaughter, Annie Cote of Montreal; her mother of Sherbrook, Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Lisa Bedard and Rose Gay, and five brothers, Paul Bedard, Rene Bedard, Omer Bedard, Jean Bedard and Real Bedard, all of Canada; and many nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church.

A gathering of family and friends will follow at the South Station in Rutland to celebrate her life.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cancer Center, RRMC, 160 Allen St., Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home.
