Harold W. Melendy

SOUTH LONDONDERRY - Harold W. Melendy, 62, of Thornton, Colo., died Dec. 28, 2003, at his home.

He was born May 15, 1941, in New Jersey, the son of David and Alice Melendy.

He grew up in South Londonderry, where he was a member of the Skirts and Shirts Club.

Mr. Melendy was a truck driver for more than 25 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Eagles Club of Thornton.

He enjoyed hunting, football, golf, singing, dancing and playing his guitar.

Survivors include his wife, Brigette Melendy of Thornton; two sons, Donald Melendy of Keene, N.H., and James Melendy of Andover; three daughters, Brenda Reynolds of Sammamish, Wash., Cheryl Amadon and Sharon Harper, both of Swanzey, N.H.; two sisters, Alice Baker of South Newfane and Claira Derry of Essex Junction; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, David Melendy and Harry Melendy; and two sisters, Margaret Glidden and Betty Clough.

A remembrance will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Pioneer House in Chester.

Lucille L. Cameron

BENNINGTON - Lucille L. Cameron, 83, died Jan. 5, 2004, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 7, 1920, in South Granville, N.Y., the daughter of Melvin and Martha (Griffith) Lewis.

She graduated from Granville Central High School in 1939.

She married Welland Cameron on March 9, 1940, in Castleton. He died in 1983.

Mrs. Cameron worked in a defense plant in Connecticut during World War II. In 1953 she moved to Bennington and worked at Sibleys and later the Union Carbide Corporation. She retired from Tansitor Electronics in 1971 after 35 years of service.

She enjoyed reading and baseball.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Forrest of Bennington and Elaine Bronk Sr. of Yorkville, N.Y.; a sister, Monelvia Fitzgerald of Castleton; five grandsons and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Richard Cameron; three sisters, Foresta Montgomery, Helena Allen and Elizabeth Nati; a brother, Melvin Lewis; and five grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date in White Chapel cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bennington Project Independence or the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

John P. Griffin

BENNINGTON - John P. Griffin, 87, died Jan. 4, 2004, at Hoosick Falls (N.Y.) Health Center.

He was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Bennington, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Lee) Griffin.

He received his education in Bennington and graduated from St. Joseph's Commercial School.

He worked as an administrator at BenMont Corp. from 1937 to 1987.

Mr. Griffin was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 307.

He was an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman.

Survivors include a sister, Agnes Shea of Hoosick Falls, two nieces, several grandnieces and nephews, great-grandnieces, and nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, James Griffin and Edward Griffin; and two sisters, Alice Griffin and Margaret Curran.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer and continue at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the celebration of Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Park Lawn cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Members of the K of C Council 307 are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. for the recitation of the rosary.

James E. Webber

BENNINGTON - James Elmer Webber, 53, of Searsburg, died Jan. 4, 2004, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

He was born April 3, 1950, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Roy Sr. and Lorraine (Emrick) Webber.

He received his education in East Hampton, Conn., and graduated from Wilmington High School.

He worked as a bus driver for the Moover Transportation Service in Deerfield Valley.

Mr. Webber served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam and was discharged as a lance corporal.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 in Bennington.

Survivors include his mother of Readsboro; a brother, Roy Webber Jr. of Searsburg; two sisters, Gail Muncey of Lincoln, Del., and Gloria Eudy of Wallingford, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, William Emrick.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington with the Rev. John Brigham officiating. A private burial will take place in Connecticut.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, in care of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, 05363.

Raymond M. Frechette

BENNINGTON - Raymond M. Frechette, 82, died Jan. 3, 2004, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include his companion, Anna Hurley of Bennington.

Funeral services will take place at the Godere Funeral Home in Taftville, Conn.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Morton H. Howe

NORTH BENNINGTON - A memorial service for Morton H. Howe, 81, who died Dec. 7, 2003, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Bennington Baptist Church with the Rev. David Jinno, pastor, officiating.

A time of fellowship and refreshment will be held in the church hall following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad or the Shaftsbury Fire Department, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Jeannette A. Cossette Rites

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral Mass for Jeannette A. Cossette, 84, who died Dec. 31, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Springfield.

The Rev. Peter Williams, pastor, officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Mary's cemetery in Springfield.

Organist was Jerry Gimo and soloist was Stan Smith.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Edward T. Belville Rites

POWNAL - The funeral service for Edward T. "Shorty" Belville, 74, who died Dec. 30, 2003, was held Monday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

The Rev. Gary Rogers, pastor of North Pownal Congregational Church, officiated. Burial followed in Oak Hill cemetery.

Bearers were Neil Dumas, Peter Rondeau, Wayne Baker, Matt Bentley, Rick Belville and Cheri Osgood. Honorary bearer was Penny Dumas.

Mildred L. Maxwell

BARRE - Mildred Lillian Maxwell, 83, died Dec. 30, 2003, at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre.

She was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Stowe, the daughter of Harold and Minnie (Muzzey) Green.

She was married to Milford Maxwell for 25 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Evangalene Maston of St. Cloud, Fla., Vera Kittredge of Aurora, Colo., and Marlene Bent of Braintree; four sisters, Elizabeth Brown of Whiting, Mary Brown of Middlesex, Jane Bubar of Greensboro and Magalena May of Berlin; a brother, Kenneth Green of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Roy, James and Delbert Green; and two sisters, Margaret Gillis and Doris Green.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rowan Court Patient Activity Fund, 378 Prospect St., Barre, 05641.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Walter J. Keefe

MIDDLE GRANVILLE, N.Y. - Walter J. Keefe, 89, a resident of Rensselaer, died Jan. 4, 2004, at Resurrection Nursing Home in Castleton.

He was born March 27, 1914, in North Granville, the son of Walter and Margaret (O'Donnell) Keefe.

Mr. Keefe worked as a foreman with the Washington County Highway Department.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Ruff of Rensselaer; a granddaughter and great-grandson.

He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Josephine (Kelly) Keefe in 2002; a daughter, Elizabeth Buckley; and a sister, Irene Keefe.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Middle Granville with the Rev. Thomas Zelker officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Our Lady of Mount Carmel cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Inc., 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, 12144.
