Keith F. Walker

September 26, 2002

Keith F. Walker, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 23, 2002. Born in Montréal, Canada on June 23, 1939, he was the son of Viola (Williams) Walker and the late John R. Walker. On July 30, 1979, he married the former Dyan M. Hiller in Belleville, Ontario.

Keith attended schools in Ontario and built a successful career in advertising and marketing, starting in Toronto and later in Montréal. Specializing in direct marketing, Keith was the promotion director for Reader's Digest in Canada. He was recognized for his abilities, receiving numerous awards throughout his career. In 1979, Keith came to Vermont to help several companies build their mail order business. Most recently he was working as an independent consultant.

A devout Franciscan, Keith was a member of the Church of the Crucified One in Moretown. His leisure time was spent enjoying canoeing, reading, writing and spending time with his family. He had a great appreciation for the wilderness and all of God's creation.

He is survived by his wife, Dyan of Northfield; his son, Mark F. Walker of Ontario; his mother, Viola Walker of Collingwood, Ontario; two sisters, Donna M. Sexton of Burlington Ontario, and Brandy Schwein of Toronto; three brothers, Ian R. Walker of Mississauga, Ontario, J. Bruce Walker of Aurora, Ontario, and Ryan T. Wilkinson of Alberta, Canada; several nieces and nephews; as well as his springer spaniels, "Molly," "MacGregor" and the "Monster Mac." He was predeceased by a sister, Susan Wilkinson.

Memorial services will be held from the Church of the Crucified One in Moretown on Friday, September 27, 2002, at 11:00 a.m.; there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Crucified One, 52 Route 100 South, Moretown Vermont 05660. Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

Jerry A. Rutledge

September 26, 2002

Jerry A. Rutledge, 48, passed away unexpectedly at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Friday, September 20, 2002. Born in Concord, Vermont on September 5, 1954, he was the son of Wesley Rutledge and the late Charity (Bunnell) Rutledge. On June 24, 1978, he married the former Betsy Griffin in Moretown.

Jerry attended Harwood Union High School and in 1971 joined the Vermont Army National Guard with which he served for six years.

Working in the construction business for over 30 years, Jerry had been an independent contractor for the past 10 years, operating Griffin - Rutledge Construction Co., and more recently, Rutledge Construction Co., Inc.

Jerry was a member of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59 of Waterbury. His leisure time was spent enjoying hunting, riding snow machines, four-wheelers, and his Harley Davidson, but in particular, spending time with and doing activities with his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betsy Rutledge of North Fayston; their son, Jeremiah Rutledge of North Fayston; his father, Wesley Rutledge of Morrisville; a sister, Penny Cuatt and her husband, Mark of White Plains, New York; three brothers, Joe Rutledge and his wife Bonnie of Duxbury, Lyman Rutledge and his wife Becky of Duxbury, and Garry Rutledge and his wife Tina of Waterbury; a brother-in-law, Butch Kimball of Worcester; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. His sister, Sheila A. Damon predeceased him on July 21, 2002.

A celebration of Jerry's life was held from the Waitsfield United Church of Christ on Tuesday, September 24, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment took place in the Mountain View cemetery in Moretown. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

E. Blanche Shephard

August 22, 2002

E. Blanche Shephard, 75, of Moretown, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 15, 2002.

Born in Moretown on September 23, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Eunice Blanche (Lyman) Russell.

Blanche attended the Rock Bridge School in Moretown and was a 1943 graduate of Waterbury High School. She attended Vermont College on a scholarship and taught a year on an Emergency War Certificate.

Employed by New England Tel & Tel in Waterbury for several years, she later transferred to the Montpelier offices. For many years she served as the switchboard operator/receptionist at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury.

She was married to James J. Shephard of Stowe on August 1, 1947, in an outdoor ceremony at her late parents' Motor Court in Moretown, later purchasing the property for their home.

In 1969, she and her husband opened the Jim Shephard Ski Shop on the Mountain Road in Stowe.

Her husband passed away suddenly in 1981.

A fond memory that Blanche treasured was from when she was a child, when her father, who was from Scotland, enjoyed taking her and her brother John downtown, many times dressed in their kilts.

A lover of the outdoors and people, she enjoyed helping others very much and offering kind words to all. Keenly interested in politics, she believed in government for all people.

Her memberships included the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59, and the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Sonya D. Olsacher of Woodbury and Kris J. Shephard of Moretown; 10 grandchildren, Tamar, Heather, James, Jennifer, Kristopher, Scott, and Chila Shephard, Kaleb Olsacher, and Joseph and Farrah Stridsberg; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, John M. Russell of Findley Lake, New York, Retired Col. Richard L. Russell of Naples, Florida, and William G. Russell of Waterbury Center; and her beloved cat, "Rjah Rjah". She was predeceased by her son, James R. Shephard, on July 30, 1999.

No tears to shed...only joy as she is reunited with others gone before.

Thursday, August 22, a reception celebrating her life will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Blanche's home on Route 2 in Moretown. In case of poor weather the reception will be held in the American Legion on Stowe Street in Waterbury.

The family requests that flowers be omitted, that rather, memorial gifts be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vermont 05641. Private inurnment will take place in Riverbank cemetery, Stowe. Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

Philip Faucett

August 22, 2002

Philip Faucett, III of Worcester passed away after a brief illness on August 8, 2002 at the Respite House in Williston.

Phil was born on June 12, 1950 in Evanston, Illinois. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Faucett Jr. Phil attended the Pine Ridge School in Vermont and graduated from UVM with a degree in Agricultural Engineering and Soil Sciences. He went on to work in the Peace Corp for two years in Costa Rica.

For the past five years Phil worked as a computer engineer for Universal Micro Systems in Waitsfield. He was also a member of the Worcester Fire Department.

He is survived by his mother, two sisters and two nephews. Memorial services will be Saturday, September 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Church in Montpelier.

Arlene Doris Senor

August 1, 2002

Arlene Doris Senor, 84, a longtime resident of Warren, passed away at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Monday, July 29, 2002. Born in Randolph on September 27, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Merrill and Grace (Lamb) Campbell. On August 22, 1940, she married Lester H. Senor in Randolph. Mr. Senor passed away on May 20, 1994.

She graduated from Randolph High School and Lyndon State Teachers College. She was an educator for 27 years, teaching in Randolph and Warren. She assisted her husband in operating their dairy farm in East Warren from 1941 to 1972 and was active in her community, serving on the Warren School Board, Library Commission and as a town auditor.

Her other memberships included the NEA, VEA, the Vermont State Retired Teachers Association, the Warren United Church and the Warren Altar Guild. Her leisure time was spent enjoying handcrafts, reading, traveling and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her two sons, Karl Senor, and his wife, Sharon, of Burlington, and Gayle Senor and his wife, Linda, of Swink, Colorado; a granddaughter, Jean Nusselhuf, and her husband, Ryan, of Rocky Ford, Colorado; three grandsons, Dan Senor of Carr, Colorado, David Senor of Swink, Colorado, and Karsten Senor of Burlington; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Meyette of Warren.

Funeral services will be held from the Warren United Church on Friday, August 2, at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow in the family lots in Warren Village cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, PO Box 305, Waitsfield, Vermont 05673 or to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vermont 05641.

Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

Irene C. McTigue

August 1, 2002

Irene C. McTigue, 80, of Waitsfield, died July 25, 2002 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. She was born on August 21, 1921 in Chicago Illinois. She was married to Robert McTigue in 1944 and widowed in 1951. She and her daughters moved to Vermont in 1968.

She was known as "Super Mom" to all of the customers at All Things Bright and Beautiful in Waitsfield. From 1972 to 1992 she worked along with her daughters in their teddy bear and Christmas shop. After retiring (somewhat) in 1992, she found more time to enjoy her favorite things: watching old classic movies from the 30's and 40's, and listening and singing along with Broadway musical recordings.

An avid reader, she loved good mystery novels and the challenge of crossword puzzles. Sharing her life with many cats and dogs she adopted over the years, she was patient and kind to everyone. A good listener and a wonderful storyteller, she touched many people with her sense of humor.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gaelic and Bonnie McTigue, both of Waitsfield; a sister, Rita Morton; a brother Lester Danders, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside committal services were held from the Waitsfield Common cemetery on July 30, 2002. There were no calling hours. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, PO Box 305, Waitsfield Vermont 05673-0305.

Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

Lelia H. Monte

August 1, 2002

Lelia H. Monte of Warren died July 29, 2002 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington after a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at the Warren United Church in Warren at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3.

Lee was born December 3, 1942 in Ruxton, Maryland, the daughter of Robert and Frances (Henry) Hopkins. She was graduated from Garrison Forrest School in Garrison, Maryland, St. Mary's College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Johnson State College in Vermont.

Lee was retired and spent her time enjoying her family, friends, dogs, gardens, tennis, golf, skiing and boating in recent years.

Lee was a splendid athlete and holds many trophies for her golf, tennis and other sporting competitions that she enjoyed throughout her life. Lee's home-away-from-home was Flirsch am Arlberg, Austria, where she visited each winter to renew friendships with her many local friends and to ski the back country slopes and forests of the Alps. Lee's family will strew her ashes on the slopes of her beloved Austrian Alps.

Lee is survived by her husband Peter J. Monte; her son, Seth Neary of Burlington; her daughter, Kate Neary of Waitsfield; her stepsons, Peter J. Monte Jr. of Austin, Texas and Christopher Monte of Raleigh, North Carolina; her brother, Robert M. Hopkins Jr.; a nephew, Robert M. Hopkins III of Maryland and a niece, Eleanor Hauft of South Carolina and her companions, Jake and Winnie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Care Center of Fletcher Allen Health Care, 1 South Prospect Street, Burlington, Vermont 05401.

Emilie Hensen

July 25, 2002

Emilie Hensen, 87, died July 21, 2002, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.

She was born September 5, 1914, in Herne, Germany. She attended schools in Germany. On March 24, 1933, she married Walter E. Hensen in Herne. They moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1938. He died in May 1986.

Mrs. Hensen was a member of the German Singing Society in Union, New Jersey, and a past president of the Elizabeth Sport Club.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Hensen of Warren, with whom she lived, and Gerd Hensen of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; a sister, Alvina Lesser of Bochum, Germany; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A sister, Hilde, is deceased. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, Route 100, Waitsfield, Vermont 05673.

Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre is in charge of arrangements.

Sheila Ann Damon

July 25, 2002

Sheila Ann Damon, 52, of Kimball Road, Worcester, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 21, 2002.

Born in Concord on September 27, 1949, she was the daughter of Wesley Rutledge and the late Charity Bunnell Rutledge. On September 10, 1994, she married Butch Kimball in Bolton.

Sheila attended schools in Montpelier and Waterbury and continued her education, graduating from the Vermont College of Cosmetology. She was employed at High Country Hair Design in Waitsfield prior to founding her own salon, Just My Style of Waitsfield, which she operated until recently. Her leisure time was spent enjoying flower gardening, golfing and raising horses.

Sheila is survived by her husband of Worcester; her father of Morrisville; her children, Toni Legge and here companion, James Baird of Waitsfield, Trevor Damon and his wife, Jonni, of Moretown; her stepsons, Sean Kimball of Layton, Utah and Christopher Kimball of Bradenton, Florida; five grandchildren, Christopher Legge, Charles Legge, Kelly Baird, Cullen Damon, and Siena Damon; a sister, Penny Cuatt of White Plains, New York; four brothers, Joe Rutledge of Duxbury, Lyman Rutledge of Seville, Florida, Jerry Rutledge of North Fayston and Garry Rutledge of Waterbury; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Sheila's life will be held from her home at 20 Kimball Road, in Worcester on Saturday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vermont 05602-3021.

Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.
