Thomson, Bernard Saturday, 04 Oct 2003
Bernard Cline (Barney) Thomson, 85, a resident of Gig Harbor, died Oct. 4, 2003, at Cottesmore Nursing Home.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1918, in Halkirk, Alberta County, Canada to Arthur and Ethel (Kent) Thomson.
He married Lillian E. Erstad on Feb. 2, 1941, in Bremerton.
She preceded him in death in 1993.
He graduated from Edmonds High School in 1936 and served in WWII in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was a business manager and owned several businesses in Bremerton.
He was a member of the Bremerton Lodge 117F & AM, a 33 Scottish Rite Mason, he was an active member of the committee on the Scottish Rite Center for Childhood Language Disorders, a 60-year member of the Elks Club, Navy League, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Adjustment for Kitsap County, and the Bremerton Yacht Club.
He also enjoyed traveling and spending time in Hemet, Calif.
He is survived by his sons Thomas C. Thomson of Surprise, Ariz., and Norman D. Thomson of Bainbridge Island; daughters Ruth A. Jensen of Palm Desert, Calif., Linda L. Crutcher of Salem, Ore., and Lorraine I. Turnley of Gig Harbor; brothers Bert Thomson of Everett and Dave Thomson of Edmonds; sisters Jean Hold of Everett, Pat Wilson of Corvalis, Ore. and sister Betty Triplett of Silverdale; his companion Elise Leggett of Bremerton; and by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Merle Johnson and Valentine and Robert Thomson.
A celebration of life will be held at the Masonic Temple in Bremerton on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.
Arrangements were made by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Adams, Thomas Friday, 03 Oct 2003
Thomas P. Adams, 56, a resident of Port Orchard, died Oct. 3, 2003.
He was born on Dec. 6, 1946, in Columbus, Ga. to Beacy and Lilly Mae (Patterson) Adams.
He married Elizabeth (Westoff) Adams on April 29, 1967, in Bremerton.
He graduated from Alameda High School in Alameda, Calif. in 1971 and from Grossmont College in Lemon Grove, Calif., in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1983 as a Chief Petty Officer (Quarter Master Chief). He was a trade instructor at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for Shop 99 for 14 years.
He was a commodore at Port Orchard Yacht Club, liked traveling in a motor home, and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Adams of Port Orchard; sons Patrick Adams of Gorst, Anthony Adams of Port Orchard and Larry Adams of Bremerton; brother B. Leon Adams and his wife Jane of Andersonville, Tenn.; sisters Virginia Hancock and her husband Bruce of Chiefland, Fla. and Bettina Bankhead and her husband Billy of Gulfport, Fla.; and grandchildren Amber Adams and Kyle Adams.
Visitation was held at Rill Chapel and at St. Gabriel’s on Oct. 8 and 9, 2003.
A funeral service was held at St. Gabriel’s on Oct. 9, 2003, followed by interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Evans, Evelyn Thursday, 02 Oct 2003
Evelyn B. Evans, 88, and resident of Poulsbo, died Oct. 2 at Bellmont Terrace.
She was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Littleton, Colo., to Jame M. and Norma Virginia (Benoit) Stanley.
She married Paul Gordon Evans in 1933. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed flowers and her pets.
She is survived by her sons Dale Evans and his wife Pat of Poulsbo, Glen Evans and his wife Della of Camano Island, Jon Evans of Arlington, Ore. and Ron Evans and his wife Carol of Arlington, Ore.; daughter Maxine Sahlie of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother James and three sisters.
There will be no services. Inurnment was in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Arrangements were handled by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Smith, Arthur Thursday, 02 Oct 2003
Arthur M. Smith, 62, a long-time resident of Port Orchard and Gig Harbor, died 0ct. 2 at home.
Smith moved to Washington 25 years ago after taking medical retirement from Hughes Aircraft.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, barbecuing and attending family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife Dee Smith of Tacoma; sons Paul Smith of Torrance, Calif., Mark Smith of Port Orchard and Robert McKever of Mount Vernon; daughters Sheri Johnson of Port Orchard, Sandra Dallman of Sitka, Ark. and Dannilee McKever of Tacoma; brothers Willie Carson and Melvin Smith, both of Tacoma; sister Melvina Wilkinson of La Mirada, Calif.; also nine grandchildren — Joshua, Angel, LaSasha, Matthew, Linette, Jennifer, Bonar, Devin and Cheyanne.
Memorial services were held yesterday at Tacoma Elks 174. Arrangements were handled by Haven of Rest Funeral Home.
Memorial donations can be sent to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave., Seattle, WA 98103.

Kalina, William Wednesday, 01 Oct 2003
William Harry Kalina, 70, a resident of Port Orchard, died Oct. 1, 2003, at Allenmore Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1932, in Le May, Mo., to Frank and Evelyn (Parkerson) Kalina.
He married Masako (Koba) Kalina on July 16, 1957, in Fukuokai, Japan.
He retired from the U.S. Navy and is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was a machinist with the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 20 years. He retired in 1995.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and belonged to the Poggie Club of Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife Masako Kalina of Port Orchard; son William Kalina, Jr., of Port Townsend; brother Frank Kalina, Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; sister Mary Ann Cook of Kansas City, Mo. and Donna Lee Puckett of Climax Springs, Mo.; and granddaughter Amber Kalina.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Oct. 11) at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Rivers, Alice Tuesday, 30 Sep 2003
Alice Evelyn Rivers, 85, a resident of Port Orchard, died Sept. 30, 2003, at Port Orchard Care Center. She was born on Dec. 22, 1917 in Lowell, Mass. to Thomas and Martha (Linke) Vloras.
She married Robert Joseph Rivers in May of 1945 in Manchester N.H.
He preceded her in death in 1997.
She worked over 30 years in retail sales in Baltimore. She loved to sew, design dresses and cats.
She is survived by her son Robert W. Rivers and his wife Wanda of Port Orchard; sister Dorothy Nemeth and her husband Bill of Laconia, N.H.; and grandchildren Robyn and Kerri Rivers of Port Orchard.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville Maryland.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc., 12721 30th Ave. NE, Ste. 101, Seattle, WA 98125.

Johnson, Christopher Saturday, 03 Feb 2007
Christopher Knute Johnson, of Vaughn, died on Feb. 3, 2007, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. He was 44.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1962, in Escondido, Calif., to Edmund P. (Knute) and Beverly Johnson.
He graduated from Peninsula High School in 1981.
He married Julie Williams of Vaughn on July 15, 1989.
He worked for the Washington State Ferries for the past 14 years.
He enjoyed bicycling and playing the euphonium.
He is survived by wife Julie Johnson, of Vaughn; daughters Rachel, Zoe and Anna Johnson of Vaughn; son Erik Johnson, of Vaughn; mother Beverly Johnson; brothers Ed Johnson, Doug (and wife Martha) Johnson, Ken (and wife Michelle Johnson) and Glen (and wife Sheryl) Johnson.
Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Burley Bible Church, 14687 Olympic Dr. SE, in Port Orchard.
Remembrances can be made to the Building Fund at the Burley Bible Church.

McEdward, Emmet Thursday, 01 Feb 2007
Emmet D. McEdward, of Port Orchard, died on Feb. 1, 2007, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
He was 73.
He was born on May 21, 1933, in Goldendale, Calif., to Norman and Veta (Dearinger) McEdward.
He married JoAnn Killam on Jan. 16, 1954, in Port Orchard.
He was a heavy-equipment operator and electrician and later managed at All-Star Boat Mini-Storage in Belfair.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed fishing, cooking and the outdoors.
He is survived by wife JoAnn McEdward, of Port Orchard; son Don (and wife Linda) McEdward, of Cashmere; daughter Janet (and husband Mike) Selig of Port Orchard; brothers Eugene (and wife Mary) McEdward of Tacoma, Kenneth (and wife Terri) McEdward, James (and wife Michelle) McEdward, of Juneau, Alaska, and Ed (and wife Judy) McEdward; sisters Violet (and husband Bob) Gannung, of Seattle, and Veta (and husband Carl) Cyr of Yakima; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Feb. 11 at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
