Harness, James Monday, 29 Sep 2003
James Leroy Harness, 53, a resident of Port Orchard, died Sept. 29, 2003 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was born on Jan. 4, 1950, in Niles, Mich. to James and June (Fry) Harness. He married Cathy (Albright) Harness on July 28, 1978.
He graduated from Niles High School in 1968 and graduated from City University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1992 and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He worked at Bremerton Chrysler in the parts department.
He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association of Bremerton, Veteran of Foreign Wars in Bremerton, he loved fishing, photography and was a Jeep enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife Cathy Harness of Port Orchard; parents James and June Harness of Englewood, Fla.; sister Jennifer Bossey and her husband Joe also of Englewood.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Arrangements were made by Rill Chapel.

Fallstrom, Miriam Sunday, 28 Sep 2003
Miriam Callow Fallstrom, 80, a resident of Port Orchard, died Sept 28, 2003.
She was born in Elma on Dec. 23, 1922, to Arthur and Effie (Rasmussen) Callow.
She married Harold E. Fallstrom on May 29, 1965 in Parkland.
She graduated from Elma High School and the University of Washington in 1944 and Portland State University in 1964 where she received her Masters of Social Work.
She retired as a supervisor after 25 years with the Oregon and Washington State DSHS and most recently in the child protective services.
She was a member of the local Kitsap Quilting Association. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, snow and water skiing, and swimming. She traveled to all 50 states and much of Europe.
She is survived by her husband Harold E. Fallstrom of Port Orchard; sons Lou Berry and his wife Arlene of Port Orchard, Richard Fallstrom of Belfair, David Fallstrom and his companion Dori Shobert of Port Orchard, Daniel Fallstrom and his wife Glenda of Port Orchard and Brian Berry and his wife Crystal of Port Orchard; daughter Elizabeth Knutson and her husband Todd of Graham; sister Francis Fallstrom of Issaquah; and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Keenan and Doris Whittier and her brother Lewis Callow.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.

Ford, Doris Friday, 26 Sep 2003
Doris Jean Ford, 65, died Sept. 26, 2003, at her home in Port Orchard.
She was born in Witts Springs, Ark., to Major and Verna (Layman) Blackwell.
She graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Calif., and attended Eureka Business College and Olympic College in Bremerton.
She worked at Kitsap Children’s Clinic for 24 years as a medical transcriptionist, and later as an insurance coordinator.
She had also served as secretary of Port Orchard’s Business and Professional Women.
Watercolor painting, visiting art galleries and museums and traveling with family and friends were among her favorite pastimes.
She also was active in numerous social groups as well as her church.
Survivors include her five children: Michael Ford, Kirk Ford and daughter-in-law Lisa of Port Orchard; Marsha Hoskinson of Port Orchard, Lydia Denning and husband Jeff of Tacoma, and James Ford and his wife Diana of Great Falls, Mont. She is also survived by brothers Harold Blackwell of Marshall, Ark., and Bill Blackwell of Ketchikan, Alaska; sister Linda Sue Terrell of Durango, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Don Blackwell.
A memorial service and life celebration was held at 1 p.m., Oct. 4, at the Unity Church of Bremerton, 1712 Trenton Ave., Bremerton.
The Doris Ford Scholarship Fund for Nursing has been established in her honor by the Kitsap Children’s Clinic and contributions may be made to KCMS Foundation, P.O. Box 339, Bremerton, WA 98337.

Kreider, Bruce Sunday, 21 Sep 2003
Silverdale resident William “Bruce” Kreider died on Sept. 21, 2003, on Bainbridge Island. He was 46.
He was born Feb. 15, 1957, in Forks to William Wayne and Wilma Jones Kreider and he attended Forks High School.
He worked as a backhoe operator and he loved to travel, visiting such locations as Australia, Brazil and Alaska.
He is survived by his father, Wayne Kreider; brother Scott Kreider of Bonney Lake; and sister Janet Baker of Washougal.
Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
Inurnment will take place at the Port Angeles City cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by The Stone Chapel in Poulsbo.

Barner, Billie Sunday, 21 Sep 2003
Billie Elizabeth Barner, 100, a resident of Bremerton, died Sept. 21, 2003. She was born on Nov. 2, 1902, on the hospital ship of the former S.S. Idaho moored on the Seattle waterfront to Albert and Marie (Anderson) Halvorsen. She married Dr. Henry Adolf Barner in 1926 in Seabeck.
He preceded her in death in 1983.
She graduated high school in Seattle and attended the University of Oregon for two years majoring in mathematics.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved to garden and was one of the founders and first president of the Bremerton Garden Club in 1933, of which she was still a member.
She belonged to the Kitsap Golf and Country Club, she loved to dance and ski, and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her sons Dr. Hendrick Barner and his wife Mechthild of St. Louis, Mo., and Bruce Barner and his wife Tina of Shoreline; and her grandsons Boyer of Nashville, Tenn., Bjorn of Dallas, Texas and Bela of Chicago, Ill.; and granddaughters Alison and Heather both of Shoreline.
She was preceded in death by Albert “Boyer” Halvorsen, sisters Hazel Sinniger, Sigrid Heidemann and Dorothea White.
A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A private interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Arrangements were made by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Fernandez, Andrew Ives Sunday, 21 Sep 2003
Andrew Ives Fernandez, 25, a Port Orchard resident, died Sept. 21 in Tacoma.
He was born May 7, 1978, in Renton to Andre and Linda (Stanard) Fernandez.
He attended high school at St. James Episcopal School in Kent and military school in Peru.
He was a cable television installer with various companies in the area.
He enjoyed snowboarding and DJ'ing for dances.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Clara Fernandez, of Port Orchard; his brothers David Fernandez of Port Orchard and Jeffrey Fernandez and his wife Anadene of Issaquah; and his maternal grandmother Norma Stanard of Long Beach.
A memorial service was held Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Port Orchard. Interment was at Fraola cemetery in Port Orchard.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center.

Escolta, Milagros Saturday, 20 Sep 2003
Port Orchard resident Milagros M. Escolta died Sept. 20, 2003, at home.
She was 74.
She was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Batangas, Philippines, to Victorio and Anacia (Montalbo) Medina.
She married married George Ponce Escolta, who died in 1995.
She graduated from high school in the Philippines and attanded Marinello Beauty School in San Francisco, Calif., and Hilltop Beauty School in Daly City, Calif.
She was the owner of Millie’s Beauty Studio in Daly City, Calif., for 10 years.
She enjoyed making costumes for her son Roderick’s Polynesian dance company, playing cards and going to the casino.
She also enjoyed making flower leis and cooking.
She is survived by sons Gregory Escolta, or Redwood City, Calif., and Roderick Escolta, of Port Orchard; daughters Philiamer Guarin, of Daly City, Calif., Calire Parrott, of Seattle, and Florence Guarin, of Anchorage, Alaska; brother Dr. Filomeno Medina, of Daly City, Calif.; and sisters Esperanza Luansing, of Pittsburg, Calif., Chris Federizo, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lina Sainz, of Vancouver, Wash.; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Victorio Escolta; and a daughter, Venus Escolta.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church in Port Orchard. Interment will be at Golden Gate cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel Life Tribute Center.

Hegg, John A. Saturday, 20 Sep 2003
John A. “Pappy” Hegg, 72, a resident of Port Orchard, died Sept. 20, 2003. He was born on Feb. 21, 1931, in Fisher, Minn., to Joseph and Hannah (Helgeson) Hegg. He married Crucita (Lospoc) Hegg on Dec. 18, 1964, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She preceded him in death in 1997.
He served in the Army from 1950 to 1957 and in the Navy from 1959 to 1971. He was an E-6 Engineman First Class and, while in the Navy, he earned his GED.
He was a marine machinist at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for nine years and at Bangor for eight years.
He retired in 1988.
He was involved with Fleet Reserve Association and VFW Bremerton, he was an avid reader and an amateur historian. He was a Lutheran.
He is survived by his sons Michael Salindron and his wife Gloria of Maui, Hawaii, David Hegg of Richland, Joseph Hegg and his wife Lisa of Port Orchard and John Hegg and his wife Peggy of Pueblo, Colo.; daughter Georgia Carlson and her husband John of Port Orchard; brothers Clifford Hegg of Crookston, Minn. and Richard Hegg and his wife Annette also of Crookston, Minn.; sisters Alice Stout of Crookston, Minn., Audry Wieland and her husband Don of Crookston, Minn. and Joyce Hegg of Grand Forks, N.D.; and 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center. A funeral will follow.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
