Scott, Ferne Friday, 17 Nov 2006
Ferne Gladys Scott, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 12, 2006, at home. She was 79.
She was born on July 26, 1927, in Graton, Calif., to Eden and Martha (Marshall) Stine.
She married William Scott on Nov. 15, 1946, in Port Orchard.
She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1946 and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Port Orchard Church of Christ and was active in its ministries.
She collected dolls and thimbles and enjoyed raising orchids and African violets.
She is survived by son Kevin Scott of California; daughters Kathi (and husband Bill) Shaner of Abilene, Texas, and Karen (and husband Jeff) Shewmaker of Portland, Ore.; sister Patricia McBeth of Graton, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband William Scott earlier this year.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Port Orchard Church of Christ.

Phillips, Ethel Tuesday, 14 Nov 2006
Ethel Phillips, 94, furniture store owner
Ethel Bernice Phillips, of Bremerton, died on Nov. 14 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
She was 94.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1912, in Judith Gap, Mont., to Ora and Thea (Haug) Wilson.
She married Bill Phillips on Sept. 10, 1939, in Spokane.
She graduated from Kellogg (Idaho) High School in 1930 and graduated from Kinman Business School.
She worked as a medical secretary in the 1930s and ’40s during construction of the Grand Coulee Dam and as a secretary in Spokane during the 1940s and ’50s. With her husband, she later owned a furniture store in Spokane for 25 years before retiring in 1980.
She is survived by sons W. Daniel (and wife Diane) Phillips of Manchester; and Rich Phillips of Spokane and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by husband Bill Phillips in 2002 and by grandson Jeff Phillips.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 30 at Audubon Park Methodist Church in Spokane.

McCarty, Janice Tuesday, 14 Nov 2006
Janice L. McCarty, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 14, 2006, at Life Care Center of Port Orchard.
She was 71.
She was born on July 10, 1935, in Everett to Chester and Laurel (Bailey) Day.
She married Quinten McCarty on Jan. 7, 1977, in Bremerton.
She worked as a legal secretary and homemaker.
She enjoyed reading.
She is survived by sons Dennis (and wife Lori) Solway of Idaho and Michael Fisch of Port Orchard; daughters Diana Crockett and Lori Clark of Port Orchard; brother Dennis (and wife Terri) Day of Mukilteo; sisters Shannon (and husband Gus) Tomaras of Port Orchard and Sandra (and husband Edward) Tetrick of Port Orchard; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Quinten McCarty in 1990 and by grandson Anthony Clark in 1990.
A family memorial gathering at her daughter’s home is scheduled for Nov. 18.

Buck, Vernon Sunday, 12 Nov 2006
Vernon Duane Buck, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 12, 2006, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. He was 46.
He was born on June 8, 1960, in San Diego, Calif., to Manuel and Darlene Buck.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a member of the Gorst Community Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for the past six years.
He was a caller for Peninsula Square Dance.
He is survived by wife Debora L. Buck, of Port Orchard; daughters Chere and Sabrina; sisters Kimberly Levy of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Robin Thomas of Bremerton; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brothers George and Timothy Buck.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov. 18 at Gorst Community Baptist Church.

Marquette, Brandi Saturday, 11 Nov 2006
Brandi J. Marquette, of Port Orchard, was died on Nov. 11, 2006, as a result of a traffic accident. She was 10.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1995, in Renton, to Blake and Sally (Yandell) Marquette.
She was a fifth-grade student at Orchard Heights Elementary School.
She played basketball and enjoyed drawing and singing.
She is survived by parents Blake and Sally Marquette of Port Orchard; brother James Marquette; sister Amber West; and paternal grandmother Norma Hicks of Puyallup.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov. 18, at the Port Orchard Church of the Nazarene. followed by burial at Fraola cemetery in Olalla.

Winebrenner, Lola Wednesday, 08 Nov 2006
Lola Belle Winebrenner, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 8, 2006, in Bremerton.
She was 93.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1913, in Bothell to William and Eva (Parkhurst) Lightfoot.
She married Dusty Winebrenner on Feb. 17, 1934, in Annapolis.
She graduated from Bothell High school in 1931 and, with her husband, owned Winebrenner’s Food Store on Bay Street in Port Orchard for 27 years until 1966.
She was a member of the Port Orchard United Methodist Church, the Port Orchard Kiwanians, the Ann Wilson Orthopedic Guild, and helped found the first kindergarten in Port Orchard.
She enjoyed tennis, golf, fishing and University of Washington football games.
She is survived by daughters Trula Winebrenner of Bremerton and Carol Noble and Jeri McNeven of Port Orchard; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Evens of Bellingham and Hazelle Simmons of Port Orchard, and brother John Lightfoot of Seattle.
She was preceded in death by husband Dusty Winebrenner in 1977.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov. 25 at the Port Orchard United Methodist Church.
Remembrances can be made to the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital of Seattle or a charity of the giver’s choice.

King, Gladys Friday, 22 Nov 2013
Gladys Roseland King, 92, died Nov. 22, 2013.
She was born Feb. 12, 1921, to Early and Emma Congdon in Bemidji, Minn.
Gladys married Lloyd Roseland in 1939 and the family moved to Port Orchard in 1951. After her husband's death in 1966, she later married Thomas King in 1971.
She was a longtime member of the Port Orchard Eagles and TOPS.
She is survived by daughters, Elaine Loan, Gale (Gary) Louch and Randi Gusa; son, Robert (Rose) Roseland; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 29, at Rill's Chapel Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.

Clark, Donald Friday, 22 Nov 2013
Donald Clark, 83, died Nov. 22, 2013, at the Kitsap County Hospice Center.
He was born Feb. 20, in Geddess, S.D.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Don and family settled in Port Orchard. He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electrician. Don also worked as a real estate agent, bus drive for South Kitsap School District, volunteer fireman and owner of Blue and Gold Taxi.
He is survived by his children, Donny (Joanne) Clark, Christine Philips, Tammy Clark, Heath (Judy) Clark; brother, Kenneth (Peggy) Swalander, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and his companion Ima Jean Menefree.
A celebration of life is set for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at Rill's Chapel Life Tribute Center.

Matila, Nusipepa Thursday, 14 Nov 2013
Nusipepa Pola Matila, 87, died Nov. 14, 2013, at her Port Orchard home.
She was born in Aunu'u American Samoa on Feb, 21, 1926, to Siatumotu and Ka'alua Pola of Aunu'u.
She is survived by her children, Faa'u Leau, Sinira Umi, Iopu Sepetaio, Peteru Sepetaio, Nofoaiga matila, Asofausia Fa'amuli, and Fiatu Tanny Matila; sister, To'atautali Tigi of Laie, Hawaii; 32 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Rill's Chapel Life Tribute Center. 1151 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard. Viewing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday and burial is at Sunset Lane Memorial Park, Port Orchard.
