Alice Ritchey

Alice S. Ritchey passed away August 5, 2004, in Colville, at the age of 92.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1911, in Cheney.

Mrs. Ritchey was the daughter of Jess and Minnie (Redding) Green.

She had been a Colville resident for over 30 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Lavonna Ritchey, Chewelah; two daughters-in-law, Irma Ritchey, Colville; Diane Garber, Reardan; a brother, Orval Green and wife, Helen, Starbuck; a sister-in-law, Kate Green, Spokane; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Blaine and Walter Ritchey.

At her request, there will be no funeral service.

Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of cremation.

Henry Kinsbury

Henry Thomas "Tom" Kingsbury, 78, passed away April 25, 2004 at his home in Spokane.

He was born June 29, 1925 in Spokane, the son of Howard M. and Helen (Morrow) Kingsbury.

Mr. Kinsbury grew up in the Spokane area and served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

He then worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for many years before retiring, and took part outfitting many local buildings with phone systems.

He was a resident of Colville from 1955-1966 where he was a volunteer fireman and helped construct the cross atop Colville Mountain.

Mr. Kingbury is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Patricia (Starr) Kingsbury; sons Howard T. (Connie) Kingsbury of Federal Way; and Michael J. (Susan) Kingsbury of Concord, CA; daughters Karol A. (Jim) Price of Spokane, Mary Helen (George) Mueller of Deer Park; Ruth L. Bennette and Patricia J. (Joseph) Hagen, all of Portland, OR; Julie L. Williams of Spokane and Eileen K. (Robert) Harris of North Bend; a brother, John H. Kingsbury, Battle Ground; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and his faithful dog, "Peppi".

He was preceded in death by his sister Kathryn Ulowetz.

Visitation begins Thursday, April 29 from 10 a.m/. to 5 pm with vigil services to follow the same evening at 7 pm at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 30 at 1 pm and will be conducted at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 428 W. 19th, Spokane with committal services to follow at Holy Cross cemetery, 7200 N. Wall, Spokane.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Spokane or a charity of choice.

Charles Foster

Charles L. Foster passed away on Oct. 1, 2004, at his Martin Creek home near Kettle Falls at the age of 69.

Mr. Foster was born on August 31, 1935 in Lead, S.D.

He was the first born to Leslie and Ali Foster.

Mr. Foster was raised and schooled in Lead.

After high school, Mr. Foster joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.

After his discharge, Mr. Foster returned to Lead and began teaching school.

Not finding this to his liking, he left for California to join his mother.

Private family service will be held at the family home.

His urn will be placed in the Willameete National cemetery, in Portland, Oregon.

On July 25, 1965, Mr. Foser and Janice Lloyd were married at Long Beach, CA.

Mr. Foster and his bride soon moved to Gresham, OR, where he worked as a master foreman machinist until retirement in 1995 from Jackson Machine CO.

In 1998, the couple moved to Kettle Falls, were they built their dream home along Lake Roosevelt.

Mr. Foster was an accomplishment artist and belonged to a local art club.

He is survived by: his wife of 39 years, Janice Foster, Kettle Falls; one son, Michael Foster and his wife, Julie, Happy Valley, OR; three grandchildren, Laurel, Gaven and Liviya Foster, Happy Valley; two sisters, Eunice Cubelic and husband, Mark, Gresham; Maxine Enyeart and husband, Earl, Anaheim, CA; three nieces and one nephew.

Danakas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of cremation.

Eva Billedeaux

Eva Billedeaux, a 34-year resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on Nov. 21, 2004 at her son Rod's home in Kettle Falls.

Eva was born in Vienna, Austria to Otto and Anna Perneczky on Aug. 1, 1934.

While still a teenager, she met Sgt. James F. Haynes of the United States Army, and they were married in Vienna.

They had their first son, Howard, before moving to Kettle Falls in 1954.

Their son Rod was born in 1956.

During their 20-year marriage, he re-enlisted in the Army and took the family to Kansas, Hawaii, Kettle Falls, Kentucky, California, Oklahoma and then back to kettle Falls in 1970.

Eva became a citizen of the United States on July 10, 1959.

As she grew up, she taught herself English by reading comic books.

Later, she became an expert at spelling, learning right along with her sons after they entered school.

Eva worked in retail and restaurants and completed training in clerical and retail from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.

Locally, she worked for Singer's Cafe', Hite's Grocery, Holly's Health Food Store and Bernie's Restaurant at the Colville Hotel.

Eva retired after marrying Donald Billedeaux in 1977.

Together they enjoyed bowling, traveling, fishing, and taking care of the grandchildren.

Eva loved cooking for her family, playing cards and bingo.

She was a member of the Pinochle Chatters, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lady Democrats and served as a member of the election boards.

Eva was kind, caring, and compassionate and called Grandma Eva by many.

Everyone who knew her will miss her love.

She is survived by two sons: Howard Haynes and his wife, Kathi, Kettle Falls, and Rod Haynes and his wife, Lori, Kettle Falls; grandchildren: Chad Haynes, Portland, OR, Brianna Waggoner and her husband Jason, Pheonix City, Alabama, Tiffany Haynes, Kettle Falls and Kyle Haynes, Kettle Falls; step-daughter Lonnie Ransbottom and her husband Tim, Kettle Falls.

Eva was preceded in death by her baby, James Haynes, and husband Don and one brother.

At Eva's request, no services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Richard Rogers

Richard Guy Rodgers of Conway, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 at his home.

He was born Nov. 24, 1931 in Anoka, MN, the son of Army Lieutenant Colonel Hollis Rodgers and Evelyn Guy Rodgers.

Both preceded him in death

The Rodgers and Guy families are descendants of Minnesota Territory Pioneers.

He was a U.S. Immigration Officer who resided at Laurier for 17 years.

He worked at the Laurier, Northport and Waneta Ports. He retired in 2000.

Mr. Rodgers was an Air Force S.M. Sergeant veteran of the Korean War, flying 50 missions over North Korea.

He received nine air medals.

He is survived by his wife, Ann at the home, four sons, David of Spokane; Mark of Florida; Patrick and family of Mobile, Alabama; Brad and family of Amsterdam, The, The Netherlands; 2 daughters, Lisa Burns, Spokane; Sandy Michel and family, Conway.

Funeral services were held on Nov 21 at New Life Church in Conway with his brother-in-law, Rev. Paul Young, officiating,

Military service was held at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery.

Elida Newman

Elida Flotus Newman, 89, of Newport, passed away Dec. 7, 2004, in Newport.

Mrs. Newman was born the daughter of Winnie Deering and Burris Weaver on Dec. 10, 1914 at Vernon, Texas.

She grew up on a farm and was the oldest of 10 children.

She graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in education.

She had been in the Newport area for three years.

She came from Auburn.

Mrs. Newman had lived in Chewelah for over 20 years.

She was a teacher in the Spokane area where she retired in the late 70's after 40 years of teaching.

Mrs. Newman was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Chewelah and the Washington Education Association.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, writing, going to garage sales and family gatherings.

She was especially proud of the fact that she was able to teach herself Spanish.

Beside her son Jeffery (and Rena') Newman of Ocean Shores, Mrs. Newman is survived by her sister, Wilda Chantry, lost Creek; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, a daughter, Shirley Marshall, and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions can be made to Northwest Cancer Center.

Marciana Hurt Kloster

Marciana Hurt Kloster, 57, of Arden, died in her home on May 30, 2004 of complications from Multiple Sclerosis.

Marci was born in St. Ignatius, Montana, on April 22, 1947.

She graduated from St. Ignatius High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business education from Seattle University.

She taught high school business classes in St. Ignatius as well as in Harrington, Selkirk and Inchelium, WA.

Marci was well-loved by all who knew her.

She never met a person who didn't like her, or she them.

She loved animals of all kinds and never passed a stray dog she didn't stop and pick up.

Marci loved to laugh, both at herself and at life in general.

She had a delightfully warped sense of humor and loved a good joke.

She was known by all as extremely generous and caring towards people and animals.

She appreciated every day of her life, in spite of her illness and disability and was always ready for adventure.

She loved to go with her best friend/caregiver Linda, on jaunts in her "little red van".

They often went for drives, out to dinner or even to the casino where Marci loved to watch the people, especially when they won.

She was always eager to celebrate any occasion and especially loved buying presents for her two granddaughters, Grace and Sophie.

The walls of Marci's room were covered in pictures of her granddaughters and she would point out any new ones to friends who would visit.

She enjoyed visiting and talking on the phone, and, although she was bedridden, she loved to watch the birds and deer outside the sliding glass door her family built in her room so she could watch them.

Marciana is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Dan) Gottesman, of Seattle, and their two daughters, Grace and Sophie; her mother, Patricia D. Hurt of St. Ignatius, MT; her sister Sharon (Jim) Gies of Colville; her brother Kenneth (Pat) Hurt, Jr., of St. Ignatius; niece Shaunda Gies of Spokane; nephew Jim (Marcy) Gies of Spokane and their three children, Marissa, Gavin and Brady; niece Jennifer (Kory) Kennaugh of Helena, MT; nephew Joseph Hurt of Baltimore, MD and her caregiver of over nine years, Linda Lee of Colville.

Marci was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Hurt, Sr. of St. Ignatius.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Marci's caregiver, Linda Lee, without whom Marci would not have been able to stay in her own home until her death, something that was her greatest wish.

Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 North Maple in Colville.

Memorial donations may be given to Colville Pet Rescue, 1250 N. Highway 395, P.M.B 266, Colville.
