Betty Jane Peck
April 29, 1947 - March 21, 2010
Betty J. Peck, a 36-year resident of Chewelah, WA was lifted to heavens gate on March 21, 2010. Betty was born on April 29, 1947 in Pittsburg, PA to Evelyn (Hereford) and Elmer Charles McKnight.
She was raised and attended school in Pittsburgh, PA. On Jan. 27, 1973, Betty began a beautiful marriage to Wayne Peck in Brownsville, TX. Together they moved to Chewelah, WA in 1973 and raised their family. Betty worked in the home until the mid 1980's. She enjoyed working with people as a cashier at the Double Eagle Casino. Betty was fond of Betty Boop collectables and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her 'top two' daily activities included #1, enjoying a glacier with her best friend, Mary and #2 to hold and play with her beloved dog Mushey.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn on Mar. 21, 1986 and her sister, Anna M. Godesky on April 3, 2000.
She is survived by her step-sons, Sean Peck and wife, Jewels, Durango, CA, Cord Peck and wife, Rhonda, Gresham, OR, daughter, Kendra Peck, Spokane, WA; son, Brent Peck, Chewelah, WA; grandchildren, Ryan Peck (currently serving overseas in the U.S. Army), Caleb Peck, Spokane, Aaliyah Johnson, Spokane, Shalan Peck, Gresham, OR, Jerradon Phelps, Spokane, Skylar Peck, Gresham, OR, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m., Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2010 at the Danekas Chapel in Chewelah followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Abundant Life Fellowship in Chewelah. Family friend and Pastor Steve Wilson will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the Betty Peck Memorial fund at the Bank of America.
Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

TAMARA MARIE CRISE-ANDERSON
December 2, 1970 - March 19, 2010
Tamara Crise-Anderson, 39, passed away March 19, 2010 at Deaconess Medical Center, Spokane, Washington. She was born on December 2, 1970 in Danville, Illinois to John and Barbara Crise. Tamara attended both Summit Valley and Chewelah schools. At the time of Tamara’s death, she was employed at The Children’s Garden Daycare. She loved each and every one of the children. Tamara will be missed by so many people, who in one way or another she came in contact with.
Tamara is survived by her parents, John and Barbara Crise; her daughter, Lacey; sister, Shannon; brothers, David Crise and Don Crise; and sister-in-law, Lynette of all Chewelah. Tamara is also survived by her favorite nieces, Faith and Hailey Crise, her absolutely favorite nephews, Johnathan, Matthew and Kaleb Crise; along with Katie Crise and her Grandma Lillian Dagg. Tamara was preceded by her maternal Grandma Mary Steele and her paternal Grandparents Don and Dottie Crise.
As per Tamara’s wishes, there are no services scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Children’s Garden Daycare, P.O. Box 1114, Chewelah, WA 99109. The Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory in Chewelah has been entrusted with arrangements.

Bertha Marie Pry
October 1, 1918 - March 18, 2010
Bertha Marie Pry, a life-long resident of the Summit Valley area near Addy, WA, passed away on Mar. 18, 2010 in Spokane at the age of 91. She was born on Oct. 1, 1918 on the family farm near Addy, WA the daughter of John Oliver and Sophie Jane (Graham) Alby.
Bertha was raised on a ranch in Summit Valley where she also attended the Summit Valley Grade School. She then attended high school at the Jenkins High School in Chewelah and graduated in 1936. Following high school, Bertha continued to help at the ranch and worked in the homes of family and friends as a house-keeper. On Dec. 1, 1940, Bertha married , Grant Pry at the Summit Valley Church after a period of courtship. She and Grant moved with his work, residing in the communities of Kettle Falls, WA, Trinidad, WA and Spirit Lake, ID. In 1943 they purchased a farm near Gifford, WA where they would raise their family. Bertha worked in the home tending to the needs of the ranch and her growing children. She fondly remembered the gradual addition of home amenities such as electricity, indoor running water and eventually the telephone. Bertha was always active in community events, assisting with and holding office in the Rebecca’s Lodge and Daisy-Gifford Homemakers Club, as well as, assisting with the Hunters Fair and Stranger Creek Grange.
From the time she was a little girl, Bertha remembered wanting to be a farmer’s wife where she could raise a family on the farm with a creek that ran by the home. Her dreams were fulfilled and she gave thanks by cherishing everyday. She had a wonderful sense of humor and had the ability to offer guidance with a soft touch and warm heart. In her family she instilled the values of 'love and laughter' for which they embrace. Bertha also enjoyed working in her large garden, canning the fruits of the harvest, baking, sewing, crochet and embroidery. She will be remembered for all of this and her dependable, trustworthy, and giving nature as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant in 1992, sister, Bessie Bowe and her parents.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Alice Stevens and husband, Marty, Spokane, WA; sons, John Pry and wife, Paula, Veradale, WA, Alvin Pry and wife, Sharon, Spokane, WA, nine grandchildren, Todd Dashiell, Stephanie Johnson, Charity Bowers, Russell Stevens, Melissa Pry, Jeff Pry, Steve Pry, Amy Perry and Ryan Pry; 13 great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 31 at the Summit Valley cemetery followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., at the Summit Valley Church. Pastor Ed Dashiell will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the Summit Valley Church.

Clifford Lewis Elliott
Born: January 3, 1930
Death: March 18, 2010
Clifford Lewis Elliott, 80, a longtime resident of Addy, WA passed away at his home. He was born January 3, 1930 in Luther, OK to George and Chloe (Sasser) Elliott.
Cliff was raised in Oklahoma until his family moved to Spokane, WA when he was 14 years old. He graduated from John R. Rogers High School. He married a beautiful girl named Rose Ewing in 1948, they knew each other from high school. Cliff worked for a couple of years doing flooring before he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He went back into the flooring business after the navy, starting his own company named Town and Country Flooring in Spokane. Cliff and Rose loved the outdoors and moved to a farm in Addy, WA. He played country music in a band and toured throughout the North West area. He and his wife both loved animals and Cliff liked gardening, but would only grow what he would eat. He enjoyed fishing and big game hunting. His favorite trip was hunting in Alaska with is brother. Cliff will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Cliff is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; and a nephew. He is survived by his brothers, Glenn and Carol Elliott of Chattaroy, WA; Mel and Betty Elliott of Ephrate, WA; sister Georgia and Wesley Groves of Anchorage, AK; numerous nieces and nephews.

EARL LEROY PACKER
July 15, 1929 - March 16, 2010
Earl Packer, 80, passed away peacefully in his Chewelah home surrounded by his family on March 16, 2010. He was born in Pueblo, Colorado on July 15, 1929 the son of Frank and Esther (Apple) Packer. When Earl was 4 years old his father was tragically killed while at work. His mother eventually moved Earl and his siblings to Puyallup, Washington where he attended school. He graduated from Puyallup High School in 1947. After graduation, he went to work for Harman Upholstery where he learned the skill of furniture upholstery. Earl began his own business, Meridian Upholstery, in Puyallup, Washington which he owned and operated for several years. He was a very gifted upholster in furniture, automobiles, boats and RV’s and ultimately started teaching for Clover Park VocTec.
Earl married Shirley Osterdahl and together they had three children, Mike, Cindy and Diane. In 1965, he married Edna Chapman and together they joined their families and had a daughter, Patricia in 1968. While the children were young, Earl coached Little League, and would always take the kids to the local A&W; for ice cream after games. He was also a huge fan of college football, attending Huskies football games often. Although, when his son and grandson attended WSU, he found himself cheering for the Cougs as well!
Earl retired in 1991 and he and Edna spent their retirement years in Desert Aire, Washington. They spent much of their retirement traveling extensively throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. Several destinations included golf courses, where Earl played on many beautiful greens. They moved to Chewelah in 2003, but spent the winters in Arizona as ‘Snowbirds’, enjoying warmer climate, visiting their friends and golfing.
Earl was President of the Lions Club in Puyallup, Washington, a lifetime member of the Elk’s Club, member of the United States Golf Association, and member of the Chewelah Golf and Country Club.
Earl was preceded by his parents, Esther and Frank Packer and eight of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Edna, at the home; his daughters, Patricia (Gilbert) Robison, of Chewelah, WA, Diane (Dennis) Miltenberger, of Bellingham, WA, Cynthia (Richard) Garneau, of Auburn, WA, Susan (Stephen) Chapman-Caswell, of Sandpoint, ID; his sons, Michael Packer of Tennessee and Steven Chapman of Rhode Island; 11 grandchildren, Ridge, Ryder and Kennedy Robison; Cody, Kelsey and Colton Miltenberger; Jillian and Paul Garneau; Joseph Lovell; Keikilani Grune; Megan and Forrest Chapman; 2 great grandsons, Tyler and Devin Grune; and his sister, Joann Parker of Colorado.
There will be a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the United Church of Christ in Chewelah, Washington. A reception will follow the service at the Chewelah Golf & Country Club. George Victor Johnston
May 19, 1939 - March 16, 2010
GEORGE V. JOHNSTON II, an eighteen-year resident of the Kettle Falls area, passed away March 16, 2010 in Colville at the age of 70. He was born on May 19, 1939 in Loveland, Ohio the son of George and Louisa (Williams) Johnston.
George served in the Air Force for four years as an aircraft mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1960. He had worked most of his life as a hard rock miner for over twenty-eight years in several of the western states. He enjoyed old cars, dirt track and drag racing, fishing, antiques and gold mining. He and his wife Shelley had been married for twenty-two years
George is survived by:

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kecia and a son George III, and his father.
Visitation for Mr. Johnston will be Tuesday, March 23 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel and services will follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel with Pastor Shane Moffitt officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Mountain View Park cemetery in Colville. Memorials may be made to Respiratory Research, National Jewish Health, P.O. Box 17169, Denver, CO 80217.

Mike L. Aubert
February 14, 1948 - March 14, 2010
Mike Aubert, 62, a lifelong resident of the Colville area passed away peacefully on March 14, 2010 in Evans, WA. Mike was born on February 14, 1948 in Colville, the eldest son of Lloyd and Florence (Yount) Aubert. He graduated as a 12-year student from Colville High School in 1966. Shortly after his graduation he joined the National Guard, serving 6 years.
In 1972, he married Terrie Hovey, and together they raised their two children, Mike and Dinah. Mike has always been self-employed, working and operating his logging company, Aubert Logging from his shop on Gold Creek Loop Road. In 1989, he and Terrie purchased the family ranch. Mike had a strong work ethic and never ending devotion to the operation and care of his ranch. His passion was working the ranch and riding. Mike was a hard worker and a caring man who held his family in the highest regard. Only once did they take a ‘non working’ family vacation, which was to Disneyland. Mike seldom took time away from the ranch, but when he did his enjoyment came from hunting and riding motorcycles. Mike was a member of the Stevens County Cattleman’s Association. Family and friends will always remember Mike as a true cowboy.
Mike is survived by his wife, Terrie of Colville; son Mike Aubert and his wife Mary of Colville; daughter Dinah Dyar and her husband Mike of Colville; mother Florence Aubert of Colville; eight grandchildren, Joseph, Erin, Andy, Coryn, Alexis, Rylee, Jackson and Kylee; and brother Richard Aubert of Colville. Mike is preceded by his father Lloyd Aubert; three siblings, Bernadine Nokes, Mary Parker, and Ray Aubert.
There will be a celebration of Mike’s life at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Colville American Legion. The Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

Tommy Roger Strong
Born: July 15, 1932
Death: March 13, 2010
Tommy Roger Strong Sr. was born July 15, 1932 in Coeburn VA. to John and Mary Strong. Bernice Moore Strong was born Dec. 30, 1935 in Norton Va. to Ray and Lillian Moore. The two were married Nov. 28, 1952. Bernice passed away March 11, 2010 and Tommy passed March 13, 2010.
Tom spent time in the military and served in the Korean War. He also worked as a welder for many years and later in his life did various odd jobs.
Bernice spent most of her time raising her children. She loved to sew and made many beautiful quilts.
Tom and Bernice loved to go camping and spent many hours with their children at different lakes around the country. They both enjoyed music and loved to dance.
During the last couple of years both Tom and Bernice suffered from many aliments, but through it all their love for one another shone brightly. Their love withstood the test of time and only grew stronger as time passed. They leave a legacy behind that will keep them alive forever.
They are preceded in death by: both of their parents, a daughter, Jacqueline Parker, a son, Eric Strong and two grandchildren, Troy Anderson and Wesley Tolliver.
They are survived by nine children: Nancy (Earl) Bunts of Cortland, OH. Vivian (Max) Burkhart of Colville, WA., Tommy (Judy) Strong of Canfield, OH., Donna Strong of Colville, WA., Ranae Anderson of Spokane Valley, WA., Sharon Tolliver of Colville WA., Rebecca (Enrico) Laurino of Valhalla, NY., Brian Strong of Chewelah, WA. and Karen (Jeff) Friend of Colville, WA. 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory have been entrusted with the arrangements.

ROBERT LEE ROBINSON
October 8, 1946 - March 12, 2010
Robert 'Bob' Robinson, a 42 year resident of Kettle Falls and Colville, WA passed away March 12, 2010 at his home in Kettle Falls at the age of 63. He was born on October 8, 1946 in Grand Forks, British Columbia the son Guy and Dorothy (Bardwell) Robinson.
Bob attended many schools in the Curlew and Republic area because his father worked in a family mill, and they had to set-up wherever the timber was located. His parents taught him how to have a good, responsible work ethic. As a teenager Bob worked for local farmers building fence, working with cows and haying. At the age of 18, he began to work in the woods, logging in the Republic area for 2 years. He then began to work for the Ferry County Road Department in Curlew. While working there, he married Judy Borders in August of 1967. In August of 1968 they moved to Colville, and Bob started his career at Boise Cascade. While living in Colville, three of their children, Julie, Teresa and Greg were born. In 1973 they moved to Kettle Falls and a few years later Becky was born.
Bob worked at Boise Cascade for 40 years, and only missed 2 days of work in that time. While there, he operated a Waggoner 966 and drove dump truck. Bob was very good at his job and instilled in his children a love for work and getting a job well done. He was a man of his word and was never late.
Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, hunting, cutting wood, working on cars and spending time at his cabin with the family. He was always there to help his family with car problems or repair work of any kind.
