Becky Lorraine Adams
Wednesday, 17 December 2008
Becky Lorraine Adams, a 17-year resident of the Kettle Falls area, passed away on Nov. 23, 2008 in Colville. She was born on July 12, 1952 in Bakersfield, CA.
Becky was co-owner in a bakery with her brother in Elk Grove, CA. There, Becky met Bob Adams and they were married in 1976 at Lake Tahoe, NV. She resided in Elk Grove for over 15 years before moving to Lodi, CA. While in Lodi, Becky worked at Lodi Memorial Hospital. Becky and Bob grew tired of the California pace of life and upon Bob’s retirement, they moved to the Kettle Falls area. They have made this area their home ever since that time.
Becky often reminisced about her dogs and the Boston Terriers, Pugs and English Bulldogs she raised. She was a great cook whose chocolate éclairs will be dearly missed. Herb Zibell
Wednesday, 14 January 2009
Herbert Alvin Zibell came into this world kicking and screaming on June 7, 1931 in Chewelah. He peacefully went home to be with his Lord, his family at his side, on Jan. 5, 2009 after a prolonged illness. He was the son of Herbert Richard Zibell and Elizabeth Marie (Glaesmer) Zibell and joined sisters Esther and Leona at home.
Herb attended 12 years of school in Chewelah, graduating from Jenkins High School in May, 1949. He was involved in sports and participated in football, basketball, and track. In 1950 he met the love of his life, Ginger Lyons. They were married on Dec. 9, 1950 and just recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. They have lived in the Chewelah area their entire married life. To this union were born seven children: six girls and one boy who is the youngest. Most of Chewelah knew the night he was born!
In 1958, Herb got tired of working and getting laid off. He started Zibell’s Cabinet Shop, eventually purchasing the old Spray’s Dry Cleaners on Webster Avenue, where the Chewelah City Shop is now located. He eventually branched out and started a cut stock business at that location and the business became known as Zibell Industries, employing 30 at one time.
In his later years, Herb started North Star Wood Products and continued with this until his death.
Herb has always loved the Chewelah community. He has served it in many ways. In his younger years, he was a member of the Jaycees, holding several offices over the years. Many memories and friendships were made while in Jaycees. A couple of the highlights were the annual raft race held on the Colville River against the Colville Jaycees and the annual conventions.
The Jaycees earned money as a group so that those who wanted could attend.
He served on the original steering committee for the 'new' St. Joseph Hospital. He was one of the original signatories for the Pete Meyer Memorial Golf Course. He spent many hours up there clearing land and landscaping in honor of his good friend. The name of the golf course was later changed to Chewelah Golf and Country Club.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chewelah where he was baptized, confirmed, married and where we are now sending him home to be with his Lord.
In 1958 he joined the Chewelah Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Chief of that organization for 28 years. In 1996, after 38 years, he retired, but his love for that group never dimmed. Herb had numerous accomplishments as fire chief, upgrading training, equipment and facilities. 'Fireburgers' became famous or infamous during his years as chief.
He was instrumental in building the gazebo in the Chewelah City Park, where you will find those Fireburgers during Chataqua. Herb could be found in the summers at the local fairs with his sign booth. He loved the time he spent at these fairs and enjoyed the people he got to meet and visit. At Chataqua, his booth was next door to the Fireburger stand. Late summer you could find Herb on his deck with friends and family making sauerkraut. He finally divulged his 'recipe' for it this last summer.
Herb was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, swimming, water-skiing, mushrooming and picking huckleberries. His love of the outdoors was transferred to his children and grandchildren. He continued to enjoy these activities until his illness forced him to take a back seat and be the 'instructor'.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Marie, sister Esther Zimmer, daughters Dorcas Viola, Darci Ann and grandson Jason Parrish.
Herb is survived by his loving wife Ginger at their Chewelah home; his sister Leona Hammel, Chewelah. Surviving children are Debby (Garry) McCanna, Denice (Calvin) Davis of Chewelah; Diana (Brad) Parrish of Electric City; Dani (Alan) Wolfe of Post Falls, Idaho; and last, but certainly not least, son David (Tammy) Zibell of Deer Park; Brother-in-law and wife, Tracie and Jeanette Lyons of Tacoma.
He is survived by 16 grandchildren: Joey (Lynnette) McCanna, Cody (Sarah) McCanna, Rachael (Matt) Edwards, Tim Davis, Casey (Dana) Parrish, Josh (Traci) Parrish, Richard (Mandy) Parrish, Nick Scott, Brianna Scott, Ben Wolfe, Joe Wolfe, Jake Wolfe, Ginny (Ben) Uhl, Dustin Tuttle, Carissa (Travis) Moddison and Tyrone (Ashleigh) Zibell.
Fifteen great grandchildren will miss their grandpa: Kadee, Cole and Sierra McCanna, Cody, Shania, and Garrett McCanna, Thunder Wellhausen, Oshun, Prairie, and Harvest Parrish, Dakota Parrish, Isaiah and Isabella Parrish, Zachary Simons, Jacob Uhl, and Baby Moddison who will join the ranks in July. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and very good friends will miss Herb as well.
A memorial service for Herb will be held on Jan. 17, 2009, 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chewelah. Please join the family and celebrate his life on earth. Herb was cremated and his burial will be in the spring when there is a promise of rebirth in the air.
Memorials may be made in Herb’s name to the Chewelah Fire Department Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 258, Chewelah, WA 99109 (specify scholarship fund) or to St Paul Lutheran Church Pre-School, P.O. Box 91, Chewelah, WA 99109.
The Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Chewelah is in charge of the arrangements.
