Everett George Guy
Wednesday, 14 January 2009
Everett George Guy, age 61, passed away on Dec. 29, 2008 of congestive heart failure. With his passing, the universe broke a mold, which can never be reformed. Everett, also known as George and Iris, had an abiding appreciation of chickens, rabbits, houseplants and outrageous clothing, but he will best be remembered for his larger than life presence, his loving appreciation of his friends and his interest in their private affairs.
He is survived by brother John Guy and his long-term companion, James, of Dallas, Texas; brother Joseph Guy Junior; sister-in-law Kay and nieces Laura and Andrea, and nephew Joseph, Michigan; as well as four great nieces and nephews; his dog Melissa and hundreds of Ken dolls.
Trixie, his canine companion of many years, preceded him in death.
Love makes a family, and Everett will be sorely missed by his large extended family in Stevens County and beyond.
A memorial celebration, potluck, silent auction and yard sale are planned for May 16, 2009. Call 684-1032 or 684-6878 for details.

Karin S. Boatman

Karin Selina (Oberg) Boatman went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009. She was born May 9, 1941 in Seattle to Carl and Selina (Asplund) Oberg. She graduated from Edmonds High School in 1959.
In 1962, Karin married Haskel (Hack) Boatman. They made their home in Lynnwood until 1978, then relocated to Kettle Falls. Karin was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Colville. She was known to everyone who met her for her infectious smile and was known affectionately as Grandma to many.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Hack, at the home; sons Alan (Cheryl) of Arlington; Kory of Spokane; and Casey of Denver; daughter Jenelle (Carl) Anderson of Kettle Falls; eight grandchildren: Carl (Quinell), Austin (Michelle), Bradley, Daniel, Jesse, Sarah, David and Gus; three great-grandchildren: Adora, Lily and Evangeline; and brother Ken (Kathy) Oberg of Marysville.
The memorial service For Karin Boatman will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Colville First Baptist Church in Colville. Her pastor Kenton Spratt will officiate.
Burial preceded the service at the Garden Valley cemetery in Kettle Falls. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one’s choice.

Caroline Crane

Caroline Jane Crane, an 11-year resident of Kettle Falls passed away on Jan. 3, 2009 at her home at the age of 70. She was born on Feb. 21, 1938 in Prairie View, AR to John and Ila (Harrison) Berge.
Caroline was raised and attended school in Bakersfield, CA. She raised her family in California. During this time, Caroline owned and operated the 'Homestead' restaurant in the Mojave Desert and supported a semi-pro softball team as a business sponsor. She later moved to Moses Lake, where she met Bill Crane at the Eagles Lodge. They friendship grew from that point and in 1996 they were married . Upon Bill’s retirement in 1997, they moved to Kettle Falls.
Caroline loved socializing, and particularly enjoyed hosting events at her house. She also enjoyed fishing, singing western music and dancing. She took great pride in her cooking abilities. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Caroline was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberley Huggins, and brothers Art Jacobs and Paul Jacobs.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Crane, of Kettle Falls, step-sons Ernie Crane and wife, Colleen, of Moses Lake; Steve Crane and wife, Roz, Frisco, TX; Loren Crane, Polson, MT; Daniel White of Jacksonville, FL, daughter Stephanie Rose of Ridgecrest, CA; step-daughters Carol West of Snohomish; Joyce Crane of Quincy; grandchildren, Ashlee Crane, Linda Rose, Caroline Rose, and Daniel Branson; two great grandchildren; sisters Adele Harris and her husband, Claude, Fresno, CA, and Marilyn Garcia of Bakersfield; numerous nieces and nephews, and family friend Gary Erickson, Kettle Falls.
There is no service scheduled at this time.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Ashlee Crane Education Fund at Washington Mutual Bank.

Raymond Brigman

Raymond Francis Brigman Jr., a 31-year resident of Inchelium, passed away January 8, 2009 at his home at the age of 52. Junior was born on June 15, 1956 in Spokane, son of Raymond Francis and Beverlie Jean (Marchand) Brigman.
Jr. was raised and schooled in Omak until the third grade, then his family moved to Inchelium and he attended school there until the eighth grade. His family moved once more to Ford where he attended school through tenth grade in Springdale. He joined the United States Army and served four years as a fireman. After being discharged, Jr. moved to Inchelium to live and work on the family ranch, where he has remained since.
Jr. was known as having a humorous, fun-loving, happy-go-lucky attitude. Everyone knew him and he would help anyone in need, including assisting local senior citizens and plowing snow. Jr. enjoyed being around kids, courting women, and sipping on whisky. He also liked to go to the casino, where he was good at roulette.
Raymond is survived by his mother, Beverlie Marchand of Brewster, WA; siblings, Cindy Brigman-Abrahamson of Ford, Lisa Brigman of Chewelah, WA, Clifford 'Kip' Brigman of Ford, Kurt Brigman of Ford, WA; daughters, Aja Seymour of Inchelium, Telah Brigman-Holford of Inchelium; sons, Charles Peone of Plummer, ID; Eli, Ray and Clifford Brigman of Spokane; grandchildren, Veronicca, Aspin and MaKaria.
A memorial service for Raymond Francis Brigman Jr. will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Inchelium Community Center, Father Jake Morton as celebrant.

D. Mary Costich

D. Mary Castich passed away on Jan. 24, 2009 at the age of 87. She was a very special person who was born on Sept. 16, 1921 to John Willis and Wilhemina Elizabeth (Wendeln) Marshall.
Mary was raised and attended school in Springdale and graduated from Springdale High School in 1939. Mary made her home in Addy for 65 years.
She and her husband Vern used to cook hamburgers at the old Addy dances. They also owned the Cable TV Company in Addy for many years.
Mary belonged to the Addy Grange, the Addy Women’s Club and volunteered at the museum in Colville. Mary could always be found spending time in her beautiful garden. She loved reading, playing Pinochle, and cooking for her family. Mary’s loving and volunteering spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Almadean Jackson, Chewelah; Pam Frostad and her husband, Chris, Kettle Falls; two grandsons, Randy Jackson, Spokane; Robert Jackson, and his wife, Storey, Coulee Dam; two great-grandchildren Camryn Licurse, North Dakota and Cortni Licurse, Spokane.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Costich in 1988; two brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service for Mary Costich will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 30 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Chewelah. The visitation will be held on Jan. 29 from 2-5 p.m. at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Chewelah.
Memorial contributions may be given to An Irish Blessing, 430 S. Stevens, Chewelah, WA 99109 or the Keller House Museum, 700 N. Wynne St, Colville, WA 99114.

Rylee Ann Maupin

Rylee Ann Maupin passed away on Jan. 16, 2009.
'A life unlived but in our hearts forever.'
Our little Rylee Ann will be missed every day by her father, Jim; mother, Amy; two sisters, Onna and Katie. Other family members sharing in our loss are Papa, Del Phillips; gramma’s, Vicky Phillips and Adeline Maupin; aunts, Lisa and Lindsay Phillips and Nancy Radich; uncles, Andy and Travis Phillips; cousins, William, Jordan, Sidney, Illyena, Casey and Chrissy; also countless brothers and sisters in faith and family friends.
We will miss you Rylee Ann and can’t wait to see you again! Love, your family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gerald 'Jerry' Lawrence Thompson

Gerald L. 'Jerry' Thompson, age 71, a longtime resident of the Colville area, passed away on Jan. 22, 2009 at his home. He was born on Dec. 6, 1937 in Council, ID, the son of Louis Alvie and Aleta (Ball) Thompson.
Gerald attended school in both the communities of Council, ID and John Day, OR. In the early 1950’s, his family moved to the Summit Valley area near Addy. There he began working to support the family farm and worked on the farm as well.
When he was 18, Gerald was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in Berlin, Germany, during the construction of the Berlin Wall. Upon his honorable discharge and return home, Gerald started working the commercial construction industry.
He married Maxine Rose Zimmer at the Summit Valley Community Church on Dec. 6, 1964. They traveled with his work, residing in Clarkston, Pomeroy and Moxie before returning to the Colville area.
Gerald worked primarily as a driller on large construction projects. Throughout his career, he has worked on Grand Coulee Dam, Boundary Dam, Little Goose Dam, Snake River dredging projects, highway construction projects and the Alaska Pipeline. He retired in 1997.
Gerald rarely sat still for very long; he had a perpetual project list that needed his constant attention. He enjoyed taking his boys fishing and hunting, often visiting the prized hunting spots that had 'once upon a time' yielded great success. Gerald loved to attend the local rodeos, ride his four-wheeler, pick huckleberries and drive the back roads and trails. He worked hard to provide for his family. He was a very sensitive and caring man who loved to spend time with his grandchildren Gerald will be greatly missed.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Maxine Thompson, at the home; four sons, Kevin Thompson, Colbert; Kim Thompson and girlfriend, Laura Rebmann, Colville; Ron Thompson and wife, Andrea, Spokane; Randy Thompson, Spokane; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Kayla, Matthew, Tyler, Dakota, Lukas and Piper; three brothers, Ivan Thompson and wife, Margie, Starbuck; Delmer Thompson and wife, Audrey, New Plymouth, ID; Donald Thompson and wife, Irene, Colville; sister, Nina Mae Delp and husband, Wayne, Addy; mother, Aleta Thompson, Addy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Gerald L. Thompson will be held at 11 a.m., Jan. 28 at the Assembly of God Church in Colville. A graveside service and vault interment will follow at the Mountain View Park cemetery in Colville. Pastor Delmar Barrans will officiate.

Stella Roselind Rouse

Stella Roselind Rouse, 93, a five-year resident of Pinewood Terrace Nursing Center’s Special Care Unit, passed away Jan. 12, 2009 in Colville.
Stella was born in Bissell to Claude and Ethel (Edwards) Hatch. She grew up and attended school in Spokane. While working as an usherette at the local movie theater in Spokane, she met Earl Lewis (Lewy, as he was known). They were married Nov. 29, 1931.
Stella was a stay-at-home mom until her children started school. She walked to and from work at Armour and Co., which was a short distance from her home, so she could be there when her children arrived home from school.
She and her family moved to Angwin, California in the summer of 1951 so their oldest daughter could attend Pacific Union College and Lewy, a licensed plumber, could work in a warmer climate. They were devoted members of the Pacific Union College Seventh-day Adventist Church. Stella then commuted to work at the California Veteran’s Home Hospital in Yountville, California. While working there, she took classes and became a licensed vocational nurse. Stella retired Sept. 30, 1977.
After retirement, Stella and Lewy purchased a motor home and traveled a great deal. They especially enjoyed visiting relatives, national and state parks and the coast. They also traveled to Europe and China. Stella loved to be outdoors taking care of her yard, especially her many roses. After retirement, Stella also bought an organ and took lessons, learning to play quite well. Photography was another love of hers and Lewy made her a dark room in the basement. After her husband’s passing, Dec. 7, 2000, Stella moved to Inchelium to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ethel Hatch; husband, Earl Lewis Rouse; daughter, Annette Jo Stevens; son, Dr. Earl Laurell Rouse; brother, Raleigh William Hatch; sisters, Pearl Stapleton, Sylvia Merritt, Dorothy Watson, Claudia Kampfer, Florence Smesrude and grandson Darryl Stevens.
She is survived by her daughter, Estelle Lois Abbott (Beryl), Inchelium; grandchildren, Daniel Abbott (Alisa), Bozeman, Montana; Jeff Stevens (Maryann), Truckee, California; David Abbott (Ramona), Inchelium; Julie Abbott, Granite Bay, California; and Douglas Abbott, Angwin, California, as well as ten great-grandchildren, PFC Brandon Abbott, currently at Eglin-AFB, Justin, Nathan, Houston, and Keenan Abbott, Bozeman; Natalie and Madison Abbott, Inchelium; Tyson Stevens, Truckee; Hannah and Garrett Allington, Granite Bay, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on Feb. 3 at 2 pm at the St. Helena cemetery, St. Helena, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to International Children’s Care PO Box 820610 Vancouver, WA 98682-0013, in her memory.

Leo J. MacNaughton

Leo, age 84, entered into rest Jan. 16, 2009 in Spokane. He was born Feb. 15, 1924 to Phillip and Minnie McNutt in Des Moines, Iowa.
Leo joined the U.S. Army in 1943, serving as a tank driver during the European African Campaign until his discharge in 1945. After the war, Leo did some work in construction before becoming an undercover detective in law enforcement.
After his retirement, Leo loved to travel across the West Coast with his wife, Darlene, in their RV. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering with cars. Leo was also a driver for American Red Cross, transporting needed materials for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and one son, Larry McNutt.
Leo is survived by his wife, Darlene MacNaughton; sons, Phillip (Louise) Quinn; Gary McNutt; Duane (Nikki) Cooper; daughter, Dorothy (Mark) Jarvorka; daughter-in-law, Sandy McNutt; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held for Leo on Jan. 31 at Abbyview Memorial Park in Brier at 2 p.m.
Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home in Spokane is entrusted with arrangements.
