Norma Weimer
Wednesday, 12 August 2009
Norma Cleone (Drake) Weimer, age 74, went peacefully to be with the Lord on July 30, 2009 at her home in Mead.
Norma was born on Dec. 12, 1934 in Pasco to Clark and Wilma (Kern) Drake.
The family moved to the coast when she was two, then to Kettle Falls for a few months before settling in Colville, where she went through the Colville school system and graduated in 1953.
She married Richard Weimer on July 16, 1955 and together they had five children. While the children were growing up, Norma would do a little babysitting and cleaned house for an elderly neighbor. When her last child started to school, Norma went to work at Jim’s Greenhouse, taking care of plants. She worked there for five years until her knees started to hurt, then she helped her husband pick up items from several Goodwill boxes around Colville.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Wilma Drake; her husband, Richard Weimer; one brother, Wayne Drake, and one brother-in-law, Floyd Cumbo.
She is survived by three daughters, Cleone (Richard) Aubert of Colville; Mary Dodge of Mead; and Patricia (Dennis) Underwood of Ringgold, Georgia, and two sons, Rick (Mary) Weimer of Spokane; and Earl Weimer of Gervais, Oregon; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements. No service will be held at Norma’s request, but a celebration of life picnic is being planned.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice, Cancer Care, or Shriner’s Hospital.

Alvie Warren

Alvie Roy Warren passed away on August 1, 2009 at his home in Colville. He was 70. Alvie was born on April 16, 1939 at Ellington Hollow in Ellington, MO, the youngest of seven children, to Robert Edward and Sarah Elizabeth (Hines) Warren.
Alvie moved with his family to Cimmaron, NM when he was seven-years-old, and lived in a sawmill camp named the Hines Lumber Company that was owned by his uncle. He also lived in Taos, NM in 1946.
In 1948 the family moved back to St. Louis, MO, where they lived and took care of the family farm.
Alvie married Wilma Maxwell on April 9, 1960 and they had two sons, Michael and Patrick. In 1965 they divorced. In 1968 he met and married Sandra Brown and they had Kenneth, Sheri and Shawn. They divorced 13 years later. In 1979, Alvie met Amy Winters, and the couple had one son, Derek. They were married on Dec. 12, 1988.
Alvie loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alvie is survived by his wife, Amy Warren, Colville; two brothers, Amos and Elvis Warren, both of St. Louis; four sons, Michael, Deer Lodge, MT; Patrick and his wife Tiffany, Paris, TX; Kenneth and his wife Melissa, Soap Lake; and Derek of Spokane; two daughters, Sheri Denison and her husband Leonard, Kettle Falls; and Shawn Warren and her partner Clay Veehuizen of Colville; one step-daughter, Lisa Marie Fuller, Othello; 25 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren and several extended family members and friends.
Alvie was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, Calvin and Gerald, and by his sister, Edna.
The memorial service for Alvie Warren was held August 3 at the Kettle Falls Senior Center in Kettle Falls.
The Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Colville was in charge of arrangements.

Len Coufal

Leonard 'Len' Jessie Coufal, 64, a long time resident of Summit Valley, passed away Tuesday, August 4 in Spokane. He was born January 11, 1945 in Ellinger, TX to William Jr. and Lillian (Poncik) Coufal.
Len grew up and attended school in Fayetteville, TX. After graduating from high school, Len spent a year working on the family farm before joining the United States Navy in 1965. Serving four years with the Navy, he was honorably discharged in 1969. He then moved to eastern Washington and bought a farm at Summit Valley. He was a hobby farmer and enjoyed raising sheep, beef cattle, and his special pet llama named Jovan. He also worked for Vaagen Bros. Lumber Company for over 25 years. Len spent the last eight years as a Sorter Operator.
Len met the love of his life, Marge Blenz, and they married on May 13, 1989 at the Summit Valley Church. Together they built their home and raised their family in Summit Valley on the farm. Len was an avid hunter and enjoyed showing Marge how to hunt deer on their acreage.
Len’s passion in life was working around the farm and making sure his animals were well cared for, even while working full time away from the farm. Len loved spending time with his grandchildren on the farm.
His strong work ethic and love for family, friends and farm life will be missed by all.
Len was preceded in death by his father William Coufal and two brothers, Tommy Coufal and Daniel Coufal.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marge Coufal of Summit Valley; four sons, Leonard Coufal Jr. and his wife Barbara of Blaine; Erik Coufal of Chewelah; John Blenz and wife Mary of Ketchikan, AK; Jasen Blenz and Kris of Post Falls, Idaho; three daughters, Vesta Coufal and Paul of Deer Park; Athena Cross and her husband Randy of Waverly, WV; Jody Sabin and her husband Joey of Seaview; mother, Lillian Coufal of Fayetteville, TX; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Cory, Desiree’, Tyrel, Teighlor, Dallas, and Hunter; two sisters, Marion Branam and Linda Lawson; and one brother, Billy Coufal.
The memorial service for Len Coufal will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.
Memorials contribution may be given to the American Cancer Society.
The Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

A memorial service and potluck to honor Jim Ertl, who passed away July 8, 2009 at Lake Charles, LA will be held on Sunday, August 23 at 2 p.m. The memorial and potluck will be held at the Ertl home at 340 W. Astor in Colville.

Rose Golematis

Rose A. (Potestio) Golematis passed away on Aug. 4, 2009 at her home in Metaline. Rose was born on March 5, 1920 in Northport, the daughter of James and Frances (Presta) Potestio.
She attended school in both Northport and Marcus. After graduation, Rose spent time in Metaline Falls, visiting with her sister, Peggy. There she met Jimmy Golematis. They were wed on Oct. 21, 1940 at the Stevens County Courthouse in Colville. They made their home in Metaline Falls and began a family.
Rose enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for the needs of her husband and three children, JoDean, Johnnee and Jimmy (Buckie). Both JoDean and Buckie were born with a severe genetic disorder that required constant care from Rose. JoDean passed away at the age of 12 and Buckie at the age of 9. Her husband, Jimmy, would later precede Rose in death on Dec. 22, 1969.
After Jimmy’s death, Rose bought two houses in Colville, one for herself and one as a rental for her sister, Peggy. Rose was always attentive to the wonderful relationship she shared with her daughter, Johnnee. They communicated on a daily bases and shared all of the joys and concerns of life. Rose moved twice to be near Johnnee, first to Spokane then back to Metaline.
Rose loved her home in Metaline, which was located on the banks of the Pend Oreille River. She fulfilled a longtime dream by purchasing a pontoon boat, which she used on Sullivan Lake. Although Rose never drove the boat as Captain, she maintained her self-proclaimed position as the Admiral.
Rose was kind, loving, and watchful over the needs of others. Her greatest love was the human bond, which she nurtured with those she knew and those she would soon know. She enjoyed yard sales, playing cards, gardening, crocheting, ceramics, bingo and jigsaw puzzles. Rose loved to travel with her friends. Her kind and perpetual guidance, story-telling ability and overall love for life will be dearly missed.
Rose had been active in the St. Joseph’s Alter Society and the Spokane Eagles Aerie No. 2 Retired Eagles Activity Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; children, JoDean and Buckie; sisters, Louisa Miller, Helen Kutz, Donietta Morozzo, Jennie ‘Peggy' Bourne, Eva Scalese; and a brother, Joseph Potestio.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Johnnee Curtiss and husband, Kelly of Metaline; brother, Julian Potestio and wife, Betty, Kettle Falls; brother-in-law, Bob Morozzo and wife, Donna, Loon Lake, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held at 12:30 p.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., Friday, August 14 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Metaline Falls. A graveside service will follow at the Metaline cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or to the St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.

Laura Morris

Laura Ann Morris, a three-year resident of Colville, passed away on Sept. 7, 2009 in Colville at the age of 54. She was born on Dec. 10, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Virginia (Cone) Seiler.
Laura was raised and attended school in Toledo and graduated from Devilbiss High School in 1972. She then went to the Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA where she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree.
Laura met Wayne M. Morris while in college, and after falling in love, they were married on Nov. 5, 1977 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Toledo. She was a devoted homemaker and pastor’s wife, and served at churches in Watertown, NY, Erie, PA; University Place, WA and most recently in Colville.
Laura was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time outdoors. She was a very active participant in church ministries, especially with teaching children and women. She was a frequent speaker at Christian women’s events. Laura loved being a mom and spending time with her daughters and husband.
Laura was preceded in death by her father, Robert Seiler.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Morris of Colville; her daughters, Emily Morris of Tacoma and Hannah Morris of Spokane; her mother, Virginia Seiler of Wauseon, OH; her brothers, Michael Seiler and his wife Cathy of Zanesville, OH and Scott Seiler and his wife Debbie of Toledo, OH; her sister, Jane Fox and her husband Rod, Manhattan, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service for Laura Morris was held Sept. 12, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Colville.
Memorial contributions may be given to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (checks payable FHCRC, memo line Emily Morris CFBC) and/or money may be donated for a special room at Memorial Christian Hospital in Bangladesh (make checks payable to First Baptist Church of Colville; memo line Laura’s Memorial at MCH).

Joyce Nelson

Joyce Almira (Larson) Nelson, 92, passed away in her home in Spokane on Sept. 4, 2009. She was born on Sept. 1, 1917, the firstborn of Ben and Josephine (Espeseth) Larsen’s 10 children.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Circle, MT where her father published The Circle Banner. Joyce graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN in 1939 and began teaching music, which took her across Montana and into Washington.
Joyce met her husband, Gordon, while teaching at Creston. Joyce and Gordon were married on June 9, 1943 in Spokane. In 1947 they purchased a ranch just north of Colville where they lived for 40 years.
Joyce continued teaching in Colville until her retirement in 1982.
Joyce was a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran in Colville, where the importance of church attendance and service to ones’ fellow man was instilled from a very age. Worship services, Sunday School, junior choir, confirmation, youth groups, and senior choir were each crucial components of the young Nelson kids’ educations.
Her greatest joy, besides her children, was directing the adult and children’s choirs at St. Paul and playing the organ when needed.
Joyce loved her flowers and garden. Joyce enjoyed her retirement years in Spokane immensely. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, gave them piano lessons, sang with the C-Notes, attended the Spokane Symphony concerts and Ferris High School basketball games, helped out at Emmanuel Lutheran’s neighborhood meals, and hosted Sunday dinners for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; brother B. Miles Larson; sister Lois Gysler; son-in-law Wayne Gilman, and by her baby grand-daughter, Karen Gilman.
She is survived by her children, Rick and Janet (Lowell) Nelson, Sue Gilman, Paul and Tina (Martin) Nelson and Jerry and Jan (Richardson) Nelson.
Jerry and Jan cared for Joyce in their home with the help of Joyce’s dedicated caregiver, Lori Williams.
She is also survived by seven siblings. She has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Joyce also had four Godchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Sept. 11 in Spokane, with interment at Creston cemetery in Creston.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran in Colville, to St. Mark’s or ELCA World Hunger.

Earl Hall
Wednesday, 16 September 2009
Earl Raymond Hall, passed on to His Creator on June 30, 2009 at the young age of 56. His body was cremated and his soul is now at peace with Our Father. He was born in Colville, along with a twin sister, Ramona, to Earl William and Eva Leona Hall of Inchelium on Jan. 11, 1956.
He was a member of the Colville Tribe and was very proud of his heritage. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and was happiest in the outdoors, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacinda Corning and family of Kenai AK; his sisters, Phyllis Bircher and family, Hunters; Kathi Leleifeld, Loon Lake; Ramona Simpson, Spokane; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Hall Ottenbacher, and by an older sister, Marian Kirkland of Snohomish.

Theresa (Salvage) Coult

Theresa Marlene (Salvage) Coult was born in Colville and attended Colville schools. She was born on Feb. 14, 1950 and passed away on Sept. 13, 2009 in Vancouver, at the age of 59.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Coult, step-daughter, Ramie Greenwood, and grandmother Mae Crist.
Theresa is survived by her mother, Dolores Proffitt (Clint); her father, George Salvage (Doris); by a sister, Trina Thorne, a son, Bartell Salvage (Deborah); a daughter, Rainna Kettley (John); and her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Steven Salvage-Coult, Joseph, Arianna and Sennika Kettley and great-grandson, Jordon Salvage.
Theresa worked as a healthcare worker for many years and was a homemaker. She will be missed by all who knew her. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at the Ray Hickey Hospice House for wonderful care and support during her stay.
No service will be held at her request. Any contributions can be made in her name to the Ray Hickey Hospice House, P. O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668.
