Bill Lind
Wednesday, 17 November 2010
William John 'Bill' Lind, 84, passed away Nov. 7, 2010 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. Bill’s birthday on Jan. 5, 1926 was a day of heavy snow, which made the normally easy trip from Addy to the Colville hospital take two hours to accomplish.
Bill joined three brothers and a sister on the family farm in Addy. He graduated from Colville High School, and then went on to Gonzaga University and Eastern Washington State College. Bill was stationed at Fort Lewis while in the military and stayed in Spokane while starting his professional life in civil engineering/surveying.
Bill prized his Black Labs, which he always named, thereafter, Buck (Buck I, Buck II, Buck III).
In 1957, Bill met a nursing school graduate named Rosalind 'Roni' Miller, who had come from Flat, Alaska to attend Sacred Heart Nursing School in Spokane. Bill and Roni married in 1959. After the 1964 earthquake, the Alaska connection pulled them to Anchorage, where they lived until Bill’s retirement around 1989.
Their Anchorage home was a hub for Roni’s family and all their friends. Bill soon coaxed family and friends from the lower 48, one-by-one, to make the magnificent journey north. Roni and Bill enjoyed what Alaska had to offer, from clamming on the Homer Spit to maneuvering remote roads to get to and from their favorite fishing spots with family, and their boat, the 'Damfino, ' in tow.
They retired in Priest River, where Roni joined a bowling team and Bill set to learning about his new environment. His parents homesteaded at Nordman on Priest Lake before moving to Addy, so Bill already had a deep appreciation of the area prior to the move. He spent his retirement years near brother Chuck Lind and family in the Blanchard/Newport area and sister Kathryn Andrist in Chewelah.
Bill enjoyed drives over Hoodoo Mt, gathering prized morel mushrooms, and was always on a lookout for the next great huckleberry patch. He actively investigated local geology and never turned down the opportunity to discuss politics over a good cup of coffee. He possessed a keen intellect, quiet sense of humor, and was a caring son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
He adored Roni and was proud to be called 'Uncle Bill' by Roni’s nieces and nephews, in addition to his own.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Roni, parents; Bernard Lind Sr. and Alice Bungay Lind; and by his brothers; Bernard Lind Jr., Byron Lind, and Charles Lind.
He is survived by a sister; Kathryn Lind Andrist, Chewelah; and many nieces and nephews.
Uncle Bill will be greatly missed.
It was Bill’s wish that there be no formal memorial service.
Donations in Bill Lind’s name can be sent to the AARP of Idaho.
Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Wednesday, 17 November 2010
Paulina D. Goodall, a 35-year resident of Moses Lake, passed away on Nov. 10, 2010 after recently relocating to Colville. Paulina was born on April 28, 1919 in Bakersfield, CA, the daughter of Michael and Nina (Randall) Lacasella.
She was raised in Bakersfield, where she attended school and graduated in 1937 from Kern County Union High School. Paulina then attended Santa Barbara State for two years. While on a blind date, she met John Goodall, the son of the physician that delivered her. Their date ignited a love that lasted 71 years in marriage. They were wed on Oct. 21, 1939 in Bakersfield and began a family. In 1940 they moved to Yuba City, CA, where Paulina continued to pour her love and dedication into her growing family. While in Yuba City, she shared her gift of music and through her Catholic faith as the organist and pianist of the St. Isadore Parish and member of the Catholic Daughters.
Their family relocated to Moses Lake in 1975 where they would reside for the next 35 years. Paulina was actively involved with the lives of her husband and six children and committed to her faith community at Our Lady of Fatima as parish pianist. There they would seek out fine cuisine and immerse themselves in the Opera, Theater and musical concert. She created many fond summertime memories with her family at their Lake Tahoe cabin. Paulina found enjoyment simply watching her family around her, observing nature and watching baseball, especially the San Francisco Giants. The greatest gift she gave to her family was her love and her life of 71 years with her husband, John. With pure heart and sincere affection, John summated his life with Paulina by eloquently stating, 'She was my love.'

Andrew Stout
Wednesday, 24 November 2010
Andy Stout passed away on Nov. 11, 2010 in Vancouver at the Whipple Creek Senior Estates. He was 83.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1927 in Mabton to David G. and Ruby F. (Hamilton) Stout. Andy was raised in the Yakima Valley and as a youth was employed in various jobs in the local area until he enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines in 1945.
After serving two years in the Merchant Marines (where he crossed the Atlantic Ocean six times), his ship sailed into the harbor in Philadelphia in the summer of 1947. A telegram awaited him from his oldest brother, Francis, informing him that if he wanted a job, he could have one. Andy then relocated to Tillamook County in Oregon and went to work in Garibaldi.
In November of that same year, he met his future wife, Elaine Sperber, at a Veteran’s Day dance. The courtship took off and the couple was married on July 2, 1948 in Tillamook.
Andy and Elaine made their home in Garibaldi, where Andy was employed by his older brother Frances, driving a truck in the local area.
Eventually, Andy was employed with the Oregon-Washington Plywood mill in Garibaldi. After his brief employment with the mill, he relocated his family; his wife and two children to Tillamook where he lived in a small house he rented from Pearl Moore. The place was commonly referred to as the 'Moore House.' In November of that year, he went to work for Diamond Plywood. Three years later he moved his family up the road to a house that he built . His third and last child was brought home there as a newborn.
In addition to his employment at the mill, Andy on occasion worked a second job; one at the oyster beds in the Bay City area and another job for the FitzGerald sisters, a couple of older single gals who hired Andy as their handyman on their farm.
When the mill closed in 1962, Andy moved his family to Yakima. He was employed there as a foreman with Boise Cascade Plywood. The family resided in the east side of town (Terrace Heights).
The family relocated in the spring of 1966 to St. Maries, ID, where Andy was employed as a foreman for Potlatch Plywood.
After 15 months of living in northern Idaho, the family moved to Stevens County in the summer of 1967. Andy and Elaine lived in Stevens County for the next 22 years with the exception of one year in Colville. Most of their time, their residence was in Kettle Falls. Andy was employed again with Boise Cascade Plywood as a foreman, eventually becoming the superintendent of the mill until, his retirement in December of 1985.
During the many years that Andy and Elaine resided in Stevens County, Andy built the last house they lived in. The home overlooked Lake Roosevelt.
The couple also bought a beach house in Ocean Park with the thoughts of making it their home when they retired. For the last few years Andy and Elaine lived in Kettle Falls, they made several trip to their beach home, where they entertained guests almost every weekend and sometimes throughout the week. The beach house became a remodeling project for Andy. A great deal of his time was spent in fixing up that home.
In the summer of 1989, Andy and Elaine moved to Ocean Park and eventually in 1990 moved to Vancouver to be closer to Elaine’s family. They bought a home in the Salmon Creek area. They resided there until Elaine passed away from a stroke in March of 2009 and Andy moved to a senior foster home in February of 2010.
Andy’s hobbies and interests were woodworking, vegetable gardening, fishing, fly-tying and square dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Elaine; infant great-grandson, Jonah David; one step-grandchild, eight brothers and two sisters (including his twin still-born sister, Ruby Rose).
Andy is survived by his children: his son David and his wife, Karen, Woodland; daughters, Debra Dunn and her husband, Kelly, Portland, OR; Dianna Aronson and her husband, Dan, Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six step- great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Amos Stout of West Sacramento, CA; numerous nephews and nieces.
At Mr. Stout’s request, no service was held.
Internment will be at Willamette National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Nursing Home Ministries; P.O. Box 22246, Portland, OR 97269-2246 or of one’s choice.
