Vernal L Shreve

Born in Yakima, Washington on May 14, 1934

Departed on Feb. 4, 2008 and resided in Kennewick, WA.

Vernal Shreve, a long time Kennewick resident, died February 4th at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Vernal was born on May 14, 1934 in Yakima.

As a child, Vern moved through Washington and Oregon with his parents and 6 brothers and sisters, finally settling in Kennewick.

He graduated from Kennewick High in 1952 where he met his future bride, Martha A. Smith.

The two were wed in 1953.

Vern will be remembered by many for his love of machines.

He worked at the Finley Phillips plant as a carpenter and painter.

He collected and restored antique wagons, engines, and cars.

He loved to show them in local parades or at the fair.

Vern will also be known for his charity to others.

He was always willing to share time, knowledge, skills, smiles and jokes with anyone who needed a helping hand.

Vern is survived by his wife, Martha; brother, Wayne; sister, Shirley; daughters, Karen and Lisa Dao; son Ken; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at First Christian Church, 19th and Olympia, Kennewick.

Memorial Donations on Vern's behalf can be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice at 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336; Shriner's Children's Hospital 911 W. Fifth Avenue, Spokane, WA 99204-2901; or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Ruth Esther Hilliard

Born in Martinsburg, WV on May 3, 1944

Departed on Feb. 4, 2008 and resided in Pasco, WA.

Ruth Esther Martin Hilliard passed away February 4, 2008 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after suffering a massive stroke.

Her family was at her side.

Ruth was born in Martinsburg, WV on May 3, 1944 to Rev. Fred and Alcia Tabor.

She along with her family served in the Baptist Church and participated in many missions.

Ruth graduated from the Baptist School of Nursing in Nashville, TN in 1965 and became a Registered Nurse, working at the Navel Hospital.

She also worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham, NC. specializing in coronary care.

She married Paul Hilliard in 1965 and they traveled via motor home throughout the United Stated and Canada, which led to a nursing job at Lake Hospital in Yellowstone National Park.

In 1972, they settled in Pasco and had two children.

She later divorced but continued her focus on raising her children while being actively involved in school activities and being awarded the Golden Acorn for her participation in the PTA.

She enjoyed oil painting, gardening, dancing, singing, playing the piano, and having a home where all were welcome.

She spent the past 3 years passing on her invaluable knowledge to her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sara Martin.

She is survived by her sister, Mabel Fowler; daughter, Heather (Steve) Strawn; son Travis Hilliard and girlfriend Anna Curren; granddaughter, Avery Strawn; grandsons, Wyatt Strawn and Clintin Hickman; dear friend David Jahnel.

Memorials may be made in her name to Emmanuel Baptist Church or to the National Stroke Association.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 11:00a.m. at Mueller's Chapel of the Falls, 314 W. 1st Avenue in Kennewick, WA.

A web cast of the ceremony will also be available.

Glenn Edwin Herron

Born in Burlington, Iowa on Sep. 26, 1926

Departed on Feb. 7, 2008 and resided in Kennewick, WA.

Glenn E. Herron, 81, died February 7, 2008 in Kennewick, Washington.

Glenn was born on September 26, 1926 to Helen and Edwin Herron and raised in Osceola, Iowa.

He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving during World War II and in Korea.

He made the Navy a career of 22 years and later worked in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA where he met his wife, Nina Floyd.

They were married 37 years.

Nina preceded him in death in 1998.

They lived in Bremerton, WA for 12 years and moved to Othello, WA in 1983.

They moved in Richland in 1992.

Survivors include brothers Kenneth Herron and Richard Herron; sisters Virginia Crouse and Carol Wypich; sons Allen Floyd of Othello and Raymond Floyd of Ellensburg; daughters Marilyn Marsh of Burbank and Marlene McMartin of Bremerton.

He has 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Graveside Services will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th & Union in Kennewick, on Friday, February 15th at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice at the Chaplaincy in Kennewick.

Karen Elizabeth Fox

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania on Mar. 10, 1950

Departed on Feb. 8, 2008 and resided in Kennewick, WA.

Karen Fox, 57, passed away February 8, 2008 after a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mike, two sons Kevin and Ben and a daughter in law Heather all of the Tri-Cities.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father Margaret and Vincent Merkel of Russellville, Arkansas.

Karen has two brothers David Merkel of Washington DC (sister in law, Linda), and Fred Merkel of Kingsport, Tennessee (sister in law, Peggy).

Karen was born in Reading, Pennsylvania where she spent her early childhood.

During her teen age years her family moved to Russellville, Arkansas where she attended high school and college graduating with a degree in Art.

She met her husband there and began their 34 year adventure together.

She loved to draw pen and ink pictures of animals and landscapes.

Many became family Christmas cards that were sent to hundreds of friends each year across the country.

Karen was a good friend to many people from all walks of life across the United States.

She always placed the needs of others first.

Even during the tough times of chemo she was concerned about how her friends were doing.

She had such a positive attitude which was grounded by her strong faith in our Lord.

When Karen was diagnosed with stage IV cancer while on an overseas assignment with her husband, she was asked where in the United States she wanted to live and without hesitation she said the Tri-Cities, where she had so many close friends.

There will be a service at the 1st Baptist Church, 3700 W 27th Avenue in Kennewick at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 12th.

A reception at the Church will be conducted after the service.

This will be followed by a family grave side service at the Pine Grove cemetery in Hood River, Oregon on Wednesday, February 13th at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Tri-Cities Hospice House, 2108 W Entiat Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336.

Julie Ann Selch

Born in Tacoma, WA on Feb. 22, 1958

Departed on Mar. 1, 2008 and resided in Pasco, WA.

Devoted daughter, mother, wife and friend, Julie Ann "Heather" Selch went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday March 1, 2008.

Heather was born February 22, 1958 in Tacoma, Washington to Alvin and Ada Taylor.

Heather was preceded in death by her mother, Ada.

She is survived by her father, Alvin Taylor, mother Avis Taylor; brothers, Alden Taylor, Roger Taylor and David Gibb; sisters, Tammy Taylor and Sherri Harrington; sons, Joshua Selch and Jeremy Selch; daughters, Chastity Selch and Heather Selch; grandsons, Damien Selch, Aiden Bender, Johnny Becker and Jonathan Selch; granddaughters, Jordyn Becker, Samantha Selch and Sara Selch.

Heather was a long time resident of the Tri-Cities and was a well known hairdresser in the area with a great heart and a willing hand to help others in need.

She was selfless in life and took pleasure in helping her family and others, her rose garden and camping.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at any Washington Mutual bank of your choice in Heather's name.

Services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 2:00pm at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, located at 1401 S. Union in Kennewick.

Bernice Marie Vorheis

Born in Harlan, Iowa on Sep. 22, 1937

Departed on Mar. 5, 2008 and resided in Kennewick, WA.

On Wednesday evening, March 5th, 2008, Bernice Marie Vorheis slipped quietly from the bonds of earth to rejoin her late husband Darrell Vorheis, in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Bernice was born on September 22, 1937 in Harlan, Iowa.

She was the 2nd of 4 children born to Anita and Cletus Zimmerman.

Her 3 children and their spouses, Cheryl and Stuart Saslow, Curt and Jeannie Vorheis and Brian and Anne Vorheis, survive her.

She remains an inspiration and loving matriarch to her granddaughter Kyla, her grandsons Tony, Jason, Taylor, Matthew, Phillip, Spencer, Gabriel and great-granddaughter Lily.

Bernice volunteered many hours at Kennewick General Hospital and was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Bernice will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph's Chapel, 506 A S Garfield Street in Kennewick, on March 15, 2008 at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tri-Cities Hospice House, The Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat Ave. Kennewick, Washington 99336.

Wanda Lea Loudermilk (Weatherby)

Born in Commerce, Oklahoma on Jul. 27, 1930

Departed on Mar. 7, 2008 and resided in Kennewick, WA.

Wanda Lea Loudermilk (Weatherby) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2008.

She was born July 27, 1930 in Commerce, OK, and has lived in the Tri-Cities since 1960.

Wanda spent her final years of life surrounded by loved ones.

She was a cherished mother and grandmother, and found pure joy in spending time with her family.

Wanda is survived by her sons, Jerry Weatherby and his wife Vici, and Nathan Weatherby; and her daughter Sally Cumberworth; her grandchildren, Chris Weatherby and wife Cindy, Kari Lettig and husband Mike, Eric Weatherby, and Tracie Cumberworth; her great-grandchildren, Blue and Scout Chavez, Jailen and Tre' Lettig, Jen and Joe Samson, Becki and Brian Morris; and her great-great grandson Cody Samson.

Wanda's presence will be greatly missed, but her love will be with us for eternity.

A private graveside service will be held for the family.
