He was born in Covina, CA at Intercommunity Hospital on September 22nd 1961. He was raised in Azusa, CA until he was 12. He then moved in with his brother Gordon in Tacoma, WA where he attended Stadium High School until he joined the service at age 18. He left as a boy and after basic training, returned as a man.

Don served 5 years in the U.S. Army as a communications technician and electronics instructor both in Italy and stateside. While in the service he found the love of his life Kathy, and left the service to start a family.

Don took pride in his family which always took precedence. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor life including dirt bike riding, camping, kayaking and most of all, long rides on his Harley with Kathy. Don was most recently busy on the finishing stages of his new wood shop and had begun planting a small orchard, and vegetable garden.

It took the Overstreets 2 days by wagon to arrive at their newly purchased 120 acre Swafford Homestead farm, located 5 miles East of Mossyrock. Ira was one of 7 sons who worked with their father and mother on the family farm. Ira graduated from Mossyrock High School in 1926 and continued his educational pursuits at the Ellensburg Normal School where he gained his teaching certificate in June of 1928.

He was a outstanding basketball, baseball and tennis coach at Selah High School. During this 17 year coaching career, Ira produced Yakima Valley Championship Teams as their coach. The interaction and rich experiences with these young men and women gave him much satisfaction in later life. Ira continued to attend Selah High School Class Reunions through his 98th birthday, a yearly ritual he truly enjoyed.

After Ira's marriage to a lovely, vivacious, young school teacher from Everett, Washington, Margaret Mary Perry, on June 15, 1935, both newlyweds stayed in the field of education until the early 1970s. Over the years Ira continued his personal pursuit of education at Washington State College and the University of Washington, completing degrees from both schools. During these personally satisfying and very productive years, Ira was the Superintendent of Schools in White Swan and Raymond, Washington. The final years of his career as an educator were in the Seattle Public Schools. Ira retired in 1971.
