Gary Miller
(June 28, 1943 - December 8, 2012)

Gary Miller of Vancouver, Washington passed away December 8th a the age of 69. Gary was born in Oakland, California and spent his life working as a sheetrock contractor. No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock.

Nellie Bowers

Nellie M. Bowers, longtime Aberdeen resident and former librarian for the Aberdeen School District, died Monday morning, Aug. 22, 2011, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. She was 91.

A private family service is being planned.

Arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Patricia A. Holmin

A celebration of life potluck for longtime Hoquiam resident Patricia Ann Steel Cassidy Scott Holmin, who died June 14 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at Stewart Park on B Street in Aberdeen.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Roy W. Ekstrand

Roy W. Ekstrand, 76, a resident of the South Beach area for 32 years, died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011.

Upon retiring in 1979 he moved to Westport where he loved to fish.

He worked on charter boats for a while and then established Ekstrand Construction, which he operated for 25 years.

A memorial potluck gathering is planned for Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. at the VFW Post, Westport. A family inurnment will take place at Willamette National cemetery, Portland.

Verna L. Harper

Verna L. Harper, 74, a lifetime Harborite, died on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the family home in the Elma area.

A funeral is planned for 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel. Concluding services and interment will follow at the Wynooche cemetery in Montesano.

Arrangements are under the direction the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Dorothy Mattison Watkins

Dorothy Mattison Watkins of Olympia and formerly from Aberdeen, died Aug. 17, 2011. She was 87.

She and her husband Duane owned and operated the the Okanogan Independent newspaper and Mrs. Watkins worked for the state Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS) in Okanogan until they moved to Aberdeen in 1972. She retired from the Aberdeen office in 1989.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607.

John R. McKinney

John Robert McKinney of Montesano died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 81.

Services are being planned and will be announced in The Daily World. Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Lillian Wilson

OLYMPIA -- Lillian R. Wilson, a long-time resident of Elma, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, in Olympia. She was 85.

A memorial service will be held at noon Monday, Aug. 22, at the Assembly of God in Hoquiam. Arrangements are by Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma

Dorothy Watkins

OLYMPIA -- Longtime Aberdeen resident Dorothy M. Watkins of Olympia died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, in Olympia. She was 87.

At this time there are no services scheduled. Arrangements are by Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.

Norma J. Downing

OLYMPIA -- Longtime Harborite Norma Jean Downing died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 81.

She worked in a local shake mill, did housekeeping for Montesano area families and worked at the Iron Springs Resort. After receiving her LPN degree from Grays Harbor College, she worked at Grays Harbor Community Hospital for 23 years and retired from there in the mid-1990s.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 29, in the Light and Life Community Church in Hoquiam. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Light and Life Community Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Dorothy M. Florence

Longtime Aberdeen resident Dorothy May Florence died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 74.

Cremation arrangements are by Evergreen Mortuary & Cremation Services of Grays Harbor in Aberdeen.

Gladys I. Mills

Gladys Imogine Mills, a nine-year resident of Aberdeen, died at her home Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011. She was 82.

She had lived in Oklahoma, California and Oregon before coming to the Harbor in 2002. She had been a seasonal berry picker.

At her request there will be no formal services.

Cremation arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Janice K. Kochrian
November 28, 1956 - January 14, 2014

Janice K. Kochrian, a Raymond resident died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia; she was 57. Janice was born November 28, 1956 in Bremerton, WA to Jack Buckingham and Virginia Brown.

She is survived by three daughters, Rochelle Courtney of Columbus, Ohio, Reina Wiss of South Bend and Melissa Burks of Raymond; 7 grandchildren, Preston, Hope and Faith Courtney; Beau, Brady and Barett Wiss and Alison Nelson.

Janice was a spirited woman, and she enjoyed visiting the Casinos. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30, Saturday, January 18th at her home in Raymond. Arrangements are in care of Stoller's Mortuary in Raymond.

Robert Combes

MONTESANO -- Robert Combes of Elma died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Montesano Health & Rehab Center. He was 80.

Arrangements are by Funeral Alternatives of Washington in Tumwater.

Thomas F. "Tom Bonz" Mail Jr.

Hoquiam resident Thomas Finley "Tom Bonz" Mail Jr. died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, in Aberdeen. He was 41.

He was an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation. He was an avid clam digger and fished with a pole and a gillnet on the Humptulips River.

The family requests donations be sent to the North Beach PAWS, P.O. Box 962, Ocean Shores, WA 98569.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, and Friday, Oct. 14, at the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam. A celebration of his life will be at 3 p.m., Saturday at the Ocean Shores/North Beach Elks Lodge in Ocean Shores.

Velda Norton

Velda A. Norton died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at her home in Hoquiam. She was 71. Cremation arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Kelly Dahlstrom

A celebration of life for former Pacific Beach resident Kelly Dahlstrom of Mesa, Ariz., who died Sept. 27, 2011 in Olympia, will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Raymond Elks Lodge. A potluck will follow.

George Nelson Sr.

George H. Nelson Sr., a resident of Aberdeen for more than 50 years, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 95.

He served in the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force for 23 years. He had been the supervisor of maintenance and operations for the Aberdeen School District for many years.

Arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Hubert L. Thomas

Hoquiam resident Hubert Leland Thomas died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. He was 70. He was an enrolled member of the Hopi/Tewa Tribe in Arizona. He worked as a design engineer for various projects around the United States and came to the Harbor in the late 1970s to work on the Satsop Nuclear Site. He spent his last working years at Oval Strapping, retiring in 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Harbor Assembly of God Church in Hoquiam. Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
