When a child she was taught the marvelous truth of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and believed His word as quoted on her Easter 1928 Sunday school placard: I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live (Jn 11:25). As a young adult she participated in Christian Endeavor activities, graduated from Caruthers High School in 1938, attended two years at Fresno State College and then studied at Fresno Business College.

As their children grew older, Ruth worked in the Washington State Welfare Department food stamp program for 13 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1977. Terry Roy Crane

Terence Roy Crane, a resident of McCleary, was born on January 2, 1966, in Sedro Woolley, Wash. He was the first baby born at United General Hospital that year. Due to complications from influenza, Terry took his final breath and left his earthly body on January 25, 2014, in Portland, Ore. Terry was baptized at St. Catherine’s Mission in Concrete, Wash., as an infant, and his godparents, Frank and Ann DuFour, are family friends to this day. While he was still a toddler, the family moved to Jamestown, Calif., and eventually settled at a home on Jim Brady Road. He attended Jamestown Elementary and graduated from Sonora High School in 1984. During his school years, he made many lifelong friends and the stories about their escapades are legendary among them.

While Terry spent the last 15 years working for Simpson Door Company, it’s not his work history that he will be remembered for. Terry was a gifted artist creating many sculptures out of discarded metal. He was a gentle giant who loved to give snuggles to all the babies he had the pleasure to meet. Terry told stories like no other man. He was very proud of his farm, meticulously mowing in great detail the paths for all of us to walk on, as well as installing unique sculptures all over the property.

He undoubtedly received his creative and artistic gifts from his mother, JoAnne, and his dedicated and industrious nature from his father, Gene. He had wonderful childhood memories of Grandma Vera and her sister, Aunt Fran. His family roots run deep, and he had fond memories of spending time together during the holidays. Every year his home had more decorations, more joy, and more wonderment to behold. Christmas was without a doubt his favorite time of the year.

Terry’s only son, Nicolas, age 11, was the sun in Terry’s universe. He was the reason that Terry’s Christmas decorations became grander, that the 4th of July fireworks got bigger, and that his outrageous stories were shared repeatedly. He spent much of his hours teaching Nick the things every boy should know- how to build a hot fire and a decent shelter, make emergency lanterns and fire-starters, how to spot a good deal at the swap meet, and how to laugh at almost any situation. Together, he and Nick made a few videos sharing their escapades, and together they created Terry’s alter-ego, Bobby Garrison.

Terry is survived by his five siblings and their families. Pat and Ann Crane of Sonora, Calif., Chery Phillips, of Tacoma, Tim and Cathy Crane of Olympia, Missy Keeling of Denair, Calif., and Laurel and Jeff Rhinehart of Jamestown, Calif. His nieces and nephews brought him much joy and he was the “Big Guy” of their childhood memories. He is survived by his ex-wife, Jenny Crane, who will continue his dream of maintaining the farm, so that Nick will have this special place for the rest of his life. Terry had many friends who were considered family, too many to list. Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and JoAnne Crane.

At Terry’s request, there will be no formal services. Instead, he requested that everyone celebrate his life. Please join the family on the afternoon of July 5, 2014, at the farm in McCleary to raise a glass, share a memory, and laugh about all the amazing things that Terry gave to this world.
