Jonnie M. Ward

Jonnie M. Ward was born Feb. 6, 1919 in Texas. She passed away Aug. 30, 2012.

She had four children, Larry Ward, Arizona, Mike Ward, Texas, Nancy Lamb, Centralia, Dave Ward, Centralia, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard and granddaughter, Carrie (Lamb) Wagner.

She was a housewife and loving mother and wife until all the children were grown. She then went to work as postmistress at Silvercreek Post Office and worked there until her husband retired. They took several trips and went to Reno often. After his death she moved to Centralia, Wash. There she babysat grandchildren and baked cookies for the neighborhood children. Her families favorite treat was her biscuits and gravy. She never ate them, but made them at any hour of the day.

She was a very wise woman who touched many lives.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Doss cemetery, Mossyrock at 1:30 p.m.

Her celebration of life potluck will be held at Borst Park at 4:00 p.m., kitchen #1.

James "Jim" R. Harris

James “Jim” R. Harris, 69, of Salkum, Wash., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Providence St. Peters Hospital in Olympia.

He was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Renton, Wash., the son of Ralph and Roberta Harris of Kent, Wash. On May 5, 1979 he married Kathryn “Kay” Loranger.

He is survived by his parents, his wife, Kay; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Andy Stein of Ballwin, Mo., son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Jessie Harris of Salkum, Wash., son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Shannon Harris of Toledo, Wash., son, Luke Harris of Chehalis, Wash., grandchildren, Bailey of Marysville, Wash., Tiffany of Ballwin, Mo., Kaity and Kim of Toledo, Wash., sister, Jean Krause of Kent, Wash., and Evelyn Merryman also of Kent.

He was preceded in death by his brother Russ.

He was an automotive technician for several different automotive dealerships until 1991 when he fulfilled his dream of opening his own business. The proud owner of Harris Auto Repair in Chehalis, Wash., where he and his three sons operated the family business. He retired in 2006.

He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed painting. He cherished his family and was a gentle, caring man who gave unconditional love and support.

A graveside service was held at Salkum cemetery.

Tambra (Tammy) Lynn Keen

Tambra (Tammy) Lynn Keen was born in Winnemucca, Nev., on Feb. 10, 1979 and passed away in Chehalis, Wash., on Aug. 31, 2012. A resident of Lewis County, Washington. Tambra attended elementary school in Tenino, Wash., and junior high school in Randle, Wash. She liked watching NASCAR Motor Racing and Seahawks games.

Tambra is survived by her son, Tylor Monroe Keen of Centralia, Wash., sisters, Brenda Keen of Centralia, Wash., Carla Duncan of Independence, Mo., and Pam Bartlett of Independence, Mo., brothers, Richard Keen, Jr. (Christin) of Cleveland, Okla., Jerry Schoonover (Jackie) of Lacey, Wash., Danny Duncan, Jr. of Smithville Mo., and Philip Duncan of Independence, Mo. She is also survived by her mother, Linda Keen, step-father, Richard Keen, Sr., companion, Michael Beiker and many other family members.

Patricia Whitney

Patricia Whitney, age 82, a long time harbor resident, passed away in Aberdeen, Wash. on Dec. 26, 2014.

Patricia was born on July 30, 1932 in San Francisco, Calif. to Howard and Rachel Hayes. She was raised in Cosmopolis, Wash. and was a 1950 graduate of Aberdeen High School.

She enjoyed puzzles and playing bingo.

She is survived by her sons; Vern Pirtle, Clay Pirtle, Mike Garrow and James Pirtle. She was preceded in death by her husband; William Whitney.

Raymond Leo Morse

Raymond Leo Morse, 87 years of age and a longtime Harborite, died on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash. with his son and family by his side. Raymond was born on May 30, 1927, in Osnabrock, N.D. to Kasim and Katherine (Berg) Morse.

Kasim died when Ray was two years old and Katherine brought Ray and his older sister, Dorothy, to the Pacific Northwest, following Katherine’s sister who had emigrated earlier. Katherine married Ercel C. Lawson in 1937 and they made their home in the Satsop area where Ray attended the Montesano schools.

Following his formal schooling, Ray started working for Posey Manufacturing Company in 1948. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 11, 1950. During his military service, he was stationed in Louisiana and Japan, and saw combat infantry service in the Korean War with the 180th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in July of 1952 and returned to the Harbor area. He returned working for the Posey Manufacturing Company in Hoquiam and retired from there in 1989. On Dec. 18, 1953, Raymond married Geraldine “Jerrie” Muma in Montesano and they made their home in Aberdeen.

In his younger years, Ray loved to fish and hunt in the local area. The family enjoyed vacationing in California, Oregon and Eastern Washington where they visited relatives and local attractions. He was an avid follower of his son’s, and then grandsons’ high school and intramural sports teams.

Raymond is survived by his son, Steven Morse of Aberdeen, his daughter, Joni Hunter of Peoria, Ariz., a sister, Judy Reynvaan of Aberdeen; six grandchildren, Candice St. Louis, Derek Abad, Ashley Hunter, Shandrea Morse, Rachel Hunter, and Landon Morse; six great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard in 1957, a sister, Dorothy in 1990, his wife, Jerrie in 2007 and a grandson, Ryan in 2012.

There will be no formal funeral services.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5 th Street in Hoquiam, Wash. 98550.

Robert Osborne

Robert Osborne, age 75, passed away on Dec. 11, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Peggy Osborne, daughters Sherrie Kierburg and Bobbi West, son Brad Osborne, a stepson Tracy Vidmore and a stepdaughter Robbi Ibabao. He was preceded in death by a daughter Julie. He had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no service at his request.

Gene R. Zelepuza Sr.

Gene R. Zelepuza Sr., an Aberdeen resident for many years, passed away at the age of 65 on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014. He was born in Aberdeen on March 1, 1949, the son of Edward and Gertie (Jones) Zelepuza. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1967.

Gene is survived by his sister Shirley; brothers Ken and Victor, his sons Geno, John and Keith and 10 grandchildren. His parents, a sister, Nancy, and brothers, Alan and Roger preceded him to Heaven.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1816 East Hoquiam Road.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home, 2208 Roosevelt St., Aberdeen.

Myrna LaVern (Welch) Fitzgerald

Myrna went to be with God on Dec. 22, 2014. She was born on Dec. 14, 1935, in Forks, Wash. to Herb and Evelyn (Fraker) Welch. She grew up in the Wishkah Valley and graduated from Wishkah Valley High School. After serving in the Navy, she married Michael Bodnar from the Wishkah Valley. They later divorced. She later married Ray Fitzgerald from Elma, Wash. During this time she cooked in Aberdeen and Hoquiam. Later they moved to Montana for several years, where she had a job cooking for several ranches. When Ray became ill they moved back to the Wishkah Valley. After Ray’s passing Myrna met Dennis Nearing.

Myrna and Dennis spent 24 years together. They would spend the summers in Alaska on their boat and spent winters in their RV, traveling in the southwest. Dennis survives at the family home.

Myrna is also survived by her children Ron Bodnar, Cherri Bodnar and Don Fitzgerald; two step-children Linda Fitzgerald and Loni Fitzgerald and by Dennis’ children JoLynn Berge, Julie Day, Debbie Wigen, Jason Nearing and Jessie Nearing; along with 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters Betty Jean (B.J.) (Ted) Brower, Diane (Rich) More, Sharon (John) Clark; brother Herb (Delores) Welch Jr.; stepmother Mildred Welch; Dennis’ mother Lu Ella Nearing.

Myrna was preceded in death by her father Herb Welch Sr., mother Evelyn Parker and stepfather Melvin Parker.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.

John Edward Rawson

John Edward Rawson, 81, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014. He was born in Rupert, Idaho on May 7, 1933 and moved to Elma, Wash. with his family.

He married Bettie Jean Oleson in Aberdeen May 17, 1958. She died Sept. 19, 2009.

At the age of 17 he joined the Marines, then went on to work at Hoquiam Plywood in 1954. He joined Hoquiam Police Department in 1959. John became a member of the Alaska State Troopers in 1964 then transferred to work for airport security at Fairbanks International Airport. He received his B.A. degree in criminology from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and retired in 1986 when he moved to Aberdeen.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, target shooting competitions and especially his family.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry (spouse Nina) Rawson, Fairbanks, Alaska and John Bright in California; two daughters, Carol Fillmore, Merlin, Ore. and Robbin Rawson, Aberdeen, a brother, Darrell Rawson, Rupert, Idaho, a sister, Charlotte Johnson, Aberdeen and also 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

At his request there will be no formal services.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Martha J. Newberry
April 5, 1928 – December 16, 2014

Martha J. Newberry, 86, died on Dec. 16 in Bend, Ore. She was the second child born to Leo and Jean Coulter in Centralia, Wash., on April 5, 1928. Her family moved to Port Angeles, Wash., shortly thereafter and Martha graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1946. She attended Washington State University, the University of Washington and Central Washington State College prior to marrying Robert T. Newberry in March, 1951.

Martha was a devoted housewife and mother for 63 years. The family lived in Amanda Park, Hoquiam, Everett and Salinas (California) before settling in Aberdeen in 1971. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Genealogy Society and served as a volunteer with Twin Harbors Literacy and the American Red Cross. In June 2000, Martha and her husband, Bob, relocated to Olympia for retirement and in June 2014 she moved to Redmond, Ore.

She is survived by her children Joan Newberry, Scott Newberry and David Newberry, all of Aberdeen, and Jan Brieske of Redmond, Ore., their spouses and children, and her sister Mary Kier of Battleground, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Newberry.

Martha was a lovely woman with enduring love, grace and goodness. In memory of Martha and what she stood for, please consider a donation to your favorite charity that supports children, literacy, research of Alzheimer’s Disease, or those in need due to extraordinary circumstances. We were privileged to have her in our lives and she will be missed.

Glenn Barkhurst Jr.

Glenn P. Barkhurst Jr., a longtime Amanda Park area resident, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. He was 93.

He served with the U.S. Coast Guard and had worked for the Pacific Electric Railroad in California where he was a freight claims inspector.

At his request there will be no formal funeral services. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in California.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

John A. Colbert

McCLEARY — John Anthony Colbert of McCleary died at his home on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014. He was 58.

He had worked as a commercial building inspector for many years.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Marjorie C. Trumbel

Longtime Ocean Shores resident Marjorie Cloe Trumbel died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen. She was 87.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Randall F. Smith

Former Grays Harbor resident Randall Francis Smith died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at his home in Olympia. He was 62.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Roberta J. DeNotta

Longtime Aberdeen resident Roberta Jean DeNotta died at her home Friday, Dec. 26, 2014. She was 78.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Evan Reed Brown

Evan Reed Brown passed away Dec. 20, 2014. He fought an extremely courageous battle with cancer. He loved and lived life to the fullest, seeing the good in everything. He had many different career opportunities, enjoying them all. He is survived by his wife, son and granddaughter, sister and brother-in-law, sister-in-law and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Kathleen Anne Muhlhauser-Williams

Kathleen Anne Muhlhauser-Williams, 65 years of age and a longtime resident of Grays Harbor, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, from a three-year long battle with cancer, with her daughters at her side. Kathy was born on July 5, 1949, to Edward and Gladys Muhlhauser in Aberdeen.

Kathy graduated from the Hoquiam High School in 1967. She was married to Danny Lee Williams on July 1, 1967, and they were divorced in 1974. Kathy and Dan had three daughters, Susie, Diane and Dani.

Kathy worked at the Grays Harbor Community Hospital for 32 years as a cook/dietitian aide. She had to retire in October of 2013 due to her health. She loved bowling, shopping, cooking, baking, playing games and watching movies. She also loved spending time with her grandkids and her dog, Scrappy.

Kathleen Muhlhauser-Williams is survived by her daughters, Susan Kapatsos (Rich), Diane Chenoweth and Danielle Williams; two brothers, Mike Muhlhauser (Sue) and Bob Muhlhauser (Pat); her grandchildren, Stephen McAllister and Samantha Chenoweth; one great-grandchild, River Ann, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Kathleen’s name to the Cancer Relay For Life, PO Box 212, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street, Hoquiam, Wash. 98550.
