Longtime Montesano resident Marvin E. Manley died Saturday Aug. 8, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 80.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Earl Wayne Whiting

Earl Wayne Whiting passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, at his home in Tumwater. He was born March 10, 1943, in Bremerton, Wash., to Harold and Eunice (Johnson) Whiting.

Earl’s life will be celebrated with his family and friends on Thursday, Aug. 13. The celebration will start at 2 p.m. and be held with Funeral Alternatives at the South Sound Manor located at 455 North Street SE, in Tumwater.

Arrangements are with Funeral Alternatives of Washington, 360-753-1065.

Anneliese Purdy

Anneliese Purdy, 81, a 57-year resident of the Harbor, died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015. She was born in Munich, Germany, Nov. 11, 1933, the daughter of Herman and Anna Marie (Darchinger) Reischl.

Anneliese came to the United States and Arlington, Wash. in 1950 and graduated from Arlington High School in 1951. She would attend Eastern Washington State College and Everett General Hospital School of Nursing and receive a degree in registered nursing in 1955.

In 1956 she married Delbert Seymour Purdy in Seattle. Delbert passed away at an early age in 1972 in Aberdeen. Anneliese was a registered nurse at Grays Harbor Community Hospital and would continue until she retired in 1998.

Anneliese was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Hoquiam and loved to keep her fingers busy doing crochet work.

She is survived by a daughter Tamara Bingham, Montesano; five grandchildren: Samantha Brunner, Michelle Sieg, Anneliese, Brianna and Kaitlyn Purdy; and two great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bryan D. Purdy in 2013 and a sister, Friedel.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule St., Hoquiam. Pastor Kent Gravley will officiate. Private inurnment will have taken place with her husband in Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, Hoquiam.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, 2208 Roosevelt St., Aberdeen.

Darlene Lena Brueher

Darlene Lena Brueher of Aberdeen, Wash. passed away peacefully in her home on Aug. 30, 2015. She was born Dec. 22, 1938 in Bay Center, Wash. to Sampson and Maurine Calhoun.

Darlene was a lifelong resident of the Washington coast including Bay Center, Westport, Hoquiam and Aberdeen. She graduated from Ocosta High School and attended Grays Harbor College. Darlene married and soon welcomed her first son, Jerome Lee Green Jr. and her second son Jeffery Lee Green. On Jan. 21, 1971 she married Henry “Hank” J. Brueher and soon welcomed her third son, Sampson Arthur Brueher. Throughout her life she had various jobs including running and owning Pat’s In and Out Diner and later building the Westport Y gas station. She worked for the Hoquiam School District as the Indian Education Coordinator and retired after 21 years.

Darlene was a proud lifelong member of the Chinook Indian Nation and served as a council member for the tribe in the 1990s. She was also a longtime member of the Quinault Indian Nation. She was a basket weaver and enjoyed Native crafting of all kinds. Darlene loved her animals, the beach, watching the fishing boats come in and out and taking long car rides looking at the wildlife. Darlene’s biggest joy in life was her family. She loved her family and once she became a grandma that became the number one role in her life.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Hank, of 44 years; her sons, Jeff Green of Aberdeen and Sampson Brueher of Franklin, Tenn., several nieces and nephews, 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters June (Calhoun) Sweet and Wanda Calhoun, her grandson Jerome Lee Green III and her son Jerome Lee Green Jr.

A celebration of life will be held Sept. 16, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the Ocosta Rec. Hall, 45 Ocosta Sixth Street Aberdeen, WA 98520. Please feel free to bring a side dish or dessert.

Evelyn Louise ‘Evie’ Juroshek

Evelyn Louise “Evie” Juroshek of Elma went to be with the Lord at 1 a.m. on Sept. 3, 2015. Evelyn was born in Acme, Wyo. on March 29, 1926 to Jack L. and Evelyn Mae (Brandt) Wood. She graduated from Sheridan Wyoming High School in 1944.

Evelyn married Mike Juroshek Nov. 29, 1946. After a few years traveling in road construction, the couple made their home in Billings, Mont. They adopted their daughter, Judi from the Montana Children’s’ Home, thus making their family complete. Evie worked for 1st Interstate Bank in Billings, Mont. as a secretary for many years. She was known among her co-workers for the buffet lunches she put on that they affectionately called “Evie’s Buffets.” Mike and Evelyn moved to Washington State in 1999 when their daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness. They made their home in McCleary. Evie’s husband, Mike died in 2003. Evelyn’s dream had been to live on her daughter’s farm in Elma. This became a reality in 2015.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her younger brother William Eugene Sonnamaker, her older sister Martha Elaine King and her husband Michael Henry Juroshek. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Judi Harper and her husband Rick of Elma. Evelyn has three grandchildren; Jason Harper and Rebecca and Levi Linne, all of Elma. She also has two great-grandchildren; Josephine Rose Linne and Michael William Linne.

Evelyn firmly believed that to be absent from the body was to be present with her Lord. In keeping with her wishes the family will not be having a service and has requested that donations be made to the Grays Harbor Fire District No. 5 in lieu of flowers.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.

Richard L. Engstrom

OLYMPIA — Ocean Shores resident Richard Logan Engstrom died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 66.

Arrangements are by McComb & Wagner Family Funeral Home in Shelton.

David Chilcott

David L. Chilcott, a 15-year resident of the North Coast, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 79.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years.

Arrangements are by the Fern Hill funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Michael Melton

Michael D. Melton longtime resident of Westport died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 72.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Berkley E. “Berk” Barker

WESTPORT — Berkley Elwood “Berk” Barker, former mayor of Westport and owner of the Hungry Whale Store in Westport, died Saturday Sept. 5, 2015 at his home in Westport. He was 73.

A memorial service is being planned for later this month and details will follow in The Daily World.

Cremation arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Hilda F. Burns

SHELTON — Longtime Montesano resident Hilda Fern Burns died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Mason General Hospital in Shelton. She was 81.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Amelia L. Petersen

SEATTLE — Amelia Lucy Petersen, a lifetime Taholah resident, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at the Swedish Medical Center First Hill in Seattle. She was 91 and an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation.

She was a foster parent.

A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Taholah Community Center in with a dinner to follow. Private inurnment will follow at a later date in the Hoquiam Sunset Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Mark J. Lloyd

A celebration of life for longtime Pacific County resident Mark Jeffery Lloyd, who died Aug. 19, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Raymond Elks Lodge. Those attending are invited to wear their Seahawks gear.

Arrangements are by Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.

Jack L. Burtch

Jack L. Burtch, 89, long-time resident of Grays Harbor County, passed peacefully at Grays Harbor Community Hospital on Aug. 29, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Portland, Ore. but made Aberdeen, Wash. his home in the 1950’s.

Jack was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. He attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. on the GI Bill. He graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. While residing in Walla Walla, he worked as a prison guard at the Washington State Prison.

He went on to study law at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated in 1955. He opened his private law practice in Aberdeen, Wash. that same year.

During his over 50 year practice of law, he worked to found the Mental Health Program and treatment for low-income citizens of Grays Harbor. He focused his practice on criminal laws, civil rights and police misconduct. From 1955-1960, Jack was a part-time Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Grays Harbor County. He went on to become a Representative in the Washington State Legislature; serving from 1961-1967. During that time he served as Assistant Floor Leader and member of the Executive Committee Legislative Council.

As a WWII veteran, Jack took part of the Honor Flight in 2013 with other WWII vets. They flew from Portland, Ore. to Washington DC to tour the war memorials and enjoy the camaraderie of his fellow service members.

He enjoyed reading, classical music, movies, travel, meeting new people and tennis. Above all, he loved the practice of law.

Jack did not wish to have a funeral or memorial service. He is survived by many family and friends and he will be greatly missed.

Tenor Michael Ramstein

Tenor Michael Ramstein was born on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 at 4:26 p.m. to parents Jessica and Ryan Ramstein at Tacoma General Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Tenor’s family was blessed with twelve hours with him, before he went to Heaven at 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning. There are no words to describe how much he is missed. He touched many lives during his short time on Earth.

Tenor is deeply loved by his mom and dad, big sister Lyric, his grandparents Rachel and Randy Johnson, his aunts and uncles Mercy, Noah and Isaiah Johnson, Chantal Jennings, Corey and Justin Ramstein.

A private family service will be held at Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Ron J. McGrath

Ron McGrath, age 69, passed away on Sept. 8, 2015, at the family home, following a short illness. He was born on April 17, 1946 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Louise (Welsh) Timmons and Thomas Robert McGrath. He was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1965.

Ron worked at Grays Harbor Community Hospital from 1994-2009 and worked in local saw mills as a shingle sawyer. He enjoyed playing pool, Texas Hold’em, Keno, traveling and his greatest joy was his family.

Ron is survived by his wife Kay Ann (Hildebrandt) McGrath, his son Richard “Scott” McGrath, sons by choice Corey (Kathy) Bradt, Michael (Corie) Bradt, daughter Amy McGrath, daughters by choice Kari (Alan) Eliason, Susan Parker, Kelly (Scott) Sims, Stefanie (Terry) Baltzell, brother Dave (Winkie) Timmons, sister Carol (Ray) Winter, grandchildren Ashley McGrath, Clinton Anderson, Ashley Hofstrand, Emily Anderson, Morgan Eliason, Danielle (Ben) Russell, Kaylyn Parker, Corbin Sims, Carly Sims, Gavin Baltzell, Hunter Baltzell, Delaney Baltzell, Amanda Bradt and Abbie Bradt, great-granddaughters Eva Hofstrand, Indi Hofstrand and Mara Jayne Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob McGrath.

Ron’s love were his children and grandchildren.

Memorial donations (school supplies) are suggested to elementary schools in the area.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a later date.

Rhett A. Quinn March 16, 1964 - Sept. 4, 2015

Ocean Shores resident Rhett Andrew Quinn, 51 years of age and longtime Harborite, passed on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Rhett loved God, soulmate Teri, his family and spending quality time with friends. He worked for the City of Ocean Shores Water Department. for 19 plus years.

Survivors include his wife Teri, two sons Rhett Quinn II of Olympia, Wash. and Clayton Wolff of Shoreline, Wash., one daughter Jennifer Quinn of Creswell, Ore. and four grandchildren. Other survivors include his father Bob Quinn of Hoquiam, Wash., mother Ann Catterall of Aberdeen, Wash. and brother Ron Quinn of Olympia, Wash.

A memorial service in memory of Rhett will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Faith Community Church, 240 Canal Dr. SE, Ocean Shores, Wash. A reception will follow.

Robert A. Gollnick Sr.

Longtime Ocean Shores resident Robert Alex Gollnick Sr. died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 85.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Donna J. Walkowsky

GRAYLAND — Donna Jean Walkowsky, a Grayland resident, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at her home.

At her request no memorial services will be held at this time.

Cremation arrangements were by Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.

Harold Daniel Frafjord

Visitation for longtime Aberdeen resident Harold Daniel Frafjord, who died Sept. 9 in Aberdeen, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wynooche cemetery in Montesano.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary.

Patrick E. Henderson

Patrick E. Henderson passed away on Sept. 17, 2014 at Tacoma General Hospital. He was born on June 4, 1952 at St. Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash. He grew up and lived in Central Park. He played little league baseball and was a catcher in Montesano, Wash. He attended Miller Jr. High and Jason Lee Jr. High School. He ran in track 440. He attended Columbia River Hazel Dell in Vancouver, Wash. He played baseball at Columbia River High School. He could punt a football 30-50-80 yards and run way fast. He was born with quickness.

Patrick enjoyed fishing, clamming, hiking, walking his black lab, loved camping, watching Nascar races, watching the Seahawks play football, and knew the pro baseball. He also enjoyed driving his Suzuki Side Kick all over town. He was a good, safe driver, following the law carefully. He loved his family with warm feelings. Patrick was a fighter and brave about Stomach Cancer.

He worked several years in Grayland, Wash. on a Llama and Cranberry farm. He could walk on his hands and walk through a building.

Patrick is survived by his mother Barb Henderson and his brothers Mike and Ronnie. He was preceded in death by his father Mel Henderson.

Donations can be made by giving blood to the Red Cross.

Arrangements were made by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
