Dennis Aubrey Bunch

Longtime Grays Harbor resident, Dennis Aubrey Bunch passed away on Aug. 22, 2015. He was born in Elma, Wash. on July 25, 1938 to Charles Leo Bunch and Elsie Rarrick Neubauer. He was raised in Tacoma and Eatonville, Wash. and graduated from Eatonville High School in 1956 and attended Bates Vocational School in 1992, graduating with a nursing degree. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne in Germany.

On March 20, 1994 he married Geraldine E. (Knapp) Bunch in Westport, Wash. Dennis was a logger, also worked for Manke Lumber, URESCO in Tacoma, Wash., Fire Department District #7 in Parkland, Wash., an EMT and also a medic for the Spanaway Racetrack. Dennis was an LPN for local nursing homes in Aberdeen, Wash. for 8 years and retired in 2000. He was a lifetime member of the AmVets; he was also a member of the American Legion, he was a lieutenant at Spanaway, Elk Plain Fire District #7 and for the Red Cross (FEMA), Westport, Wash. He enjoyed Stock Car Racing.

Dennis is survived by his wife Geraldine Bunch, step-son J.B. Damkaer, daughters Judith (Bill) Elder and Cassandra (Barry) Robbins, brothers Darrell Bunch, John Bunch, step-brother Doug Higgins, sisters Susan Evans and Donna (Dwayne) Fousie, along with six grandchildren Clayton Damkaer, Kevin Damkaer, Bonnie Maestas, Jacob Elder, Noah Elder, Gabriel Elder, Lexi and Amber; as well as several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-sons Ray V. Damkaer and Carl E. Knapp.

Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Coastal Community Church, 711 Englewood Dr., Westport. Donations can be made to a favorite charity of choice.

Janice Lorraine Goldsmith

Janice Lorraine Goldsmith passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at her home. She was 66. Janice was born March 19, 1949 to Harold and Louise (Anderson) Hammer in Seattle. She was a longtime resident of Montesano, recently moving to Elma.

On May 7, 1965 she married the love of her life Richard Goldsmith Sr. in Montesano, Wash. Together they raised four children.

Janice worked for the Elma School District as a bus driver before retiring. She was a member of the Northwest Life Center Church in Elma and loved to volunteer in the soup kitchen at her church. She loved baking, playing golf and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She also loved gardening and camping.

Janice is survived by her loving husband, Richard, at the family home, two daughters; Kim Malcolm of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Michelle Keating of Elma, two sons Richard Goldsmith Jr. of Satsop and Dennis Goldsmith of Elma, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as many brothers and sisters including Shirley Rogers, Harold, Kenny, and Bradley Hammer.

Services are planned for 2 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2015 at the Abundant Life Church, 100 Technology Way at the Satsop Development Park, with Troy Green officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary, 311 W. Market Street in Aberdeen.

Alice C. Ruiz

Lifelong Montesano resident Alice Charlotte Ruiz died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at the age of 95.

A service will be announced at a later date.

Karen (Cling) Ferry

A wake for Westport resident Karen (Cling) Ferry, who died March 3, in Westport, will be held at noon, at her home, 260 W. Harms Drive in Westport.

Carolyn “Sue” Kistler

A celebration of life for Carolyn S. “Sue” Kistler, who died March 26 in Aberdeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the United Christian Church, 300 W. First St., Aberdeen.

Arrangements are by the Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Kenneth Robert Johnson

Kenneth Robert Johnson passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at ManorCare of Lacey. He was 57. Ken was born Aug. 7, 1958, in Seattle, Wash., to Robert G. Johnson and Carlene (Snyder) Anderson. He was raised in Elma and graduated from Elma High School in 1976.

Ken worked for Simpson, was self-employed, and worked at the Port of Grays Harbor. He was a member of ILWU Local 24 for 19 years.

Kenneth loved his family, working with his ol’ buds. He had a passion for his Mustangs, the casinos, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, neon signs and slot machines. Ken loved to travel with his mother Carlene. He enjoyed basketball and selling Christmas trees. There was not a piece of equipment he couldn’t operate.

Ken is survived by two sons, Brandon and Cody Johnson of Elma; two grandchildren, Ryan and Jordan Johnson; a sister, Vicky Griffith of Colville, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William.

There will be a celebration of Ken’s life and potluck on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. upstairs at the Montesano City Hall.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary 311 W. Market Street in Aberdeen.

Doris M. Smith

Doris M. Smith, age 95, a resident of the Harbor since 1980, died on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen. She was born on May 14, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Claude and Louise Augusta (Matschikowski) Smith.

She graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, class of 1938. She then attended Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., graduating in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Music Minor. Doris went to work for Cincinnati Milling Machine, keeping attendance records. She then moved to a stenographer position and paid off her college loan and purchased War Bonds. Living on the bonds she had purchased while working, she enrolled in The University of Cincinnati and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1948. She taught in public schools in both Ohio and Washington until retiring to Pacific Beach in 1980. She would later live in Hoquiam and Aberdeen.

Miss Smith was an accomplished musician and paid soloist. She had been a longtime active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she served three years on the St. Andrew’s Vestry and was “Member of the Year” in 1998. She was also active in the Olympic Area Agency on Aging, where in 1983 was citizen of the year for O3A; the Senior Information & Assistance Program and Long Term Care.

She is survived by her nephews, Robert W. Baldwin Jr. of Lacey, Wash. and John S. Baldwin of Beaverton, Ore.; nieces-in-law, Nancy and Carol Baldwin, grandnephews, Matthew Baldwin of Albany, Ore. and Bryon Baldwin of Seattle, Wash.; grand-nieces, Stacy Roseboro of Lacey, Washington and Catherine Baldwin of New York, N.Y.; grand-nephew-in-law, Steve Roseboro, grand-niece-in-law, Katie Baldwin; great-grand-nephews, Tyler and Sawyer Baldwin and great grand-niece, Libbey Baldwin.

There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Aberdeen.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 400 E. First Street, Aberdeen, WA 98520; Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation, Mail Stop S-200, P.O. Box 50020, Seattle, WA 98145-9929; Maryville College-Class of 1942, 502 E Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804; or Withrow High School-Class of 1938, P.O. Box 8186, Cincinnati, Ohio 45208.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Jackie Marie Raubuch Moreno

Jackie Marie Raubuch Moreno, a long-time resident of Montesano, graduated to heaven on Sept. 21, 2015, at 5:21 p.m. She was born April 10, 1955. She was preceded in death by her father, John (Jack) Raubuch, her first husband, William (Bill) Brookshire, and her grandfather and grandmother Easter.

Jackie is survived by her husband of 20 years, Javier Moreno, her son Taylor Moreno, her mother, Nadine Raubuch, her brothers Rick Raubuch and Stan Raubuch. She also loved her three therapy kitties; Elijah, Blackie, and Tiggy.

Jackie worked at Key bank in Montesano for 17 years. She has since spent many years homeschooling her son, Taylor. The proof of her wonderful nurturing is seen in the young man he is today.

Jackie was a wonderful woman of faith. She was a born again Christian and knew that she would live forever and would see her loved ones again. She loved sharing her faith and the goodness of God. She was a member of FaithLife Church NW, in Aberdeen, pastored by Robert (Bob) and Debbie Rester. Pastor Bob became a second father to her. She referred to him as “Pastor Daddy”. She worshiped and served in many capacities in the church. She blessed many with her wonderful voice and constant encouragement. Jackie had a wonderful sense of humor. You could not be around her long without learning to enjoy life.

She was a fighter to the end. She refused to give into cancer and death. As she came closer to that graduation day, she longed to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. A sweet intimacy developed between them. It had deepened until she looked forward to being in His arms. She believed till the end, “Good God, bad devil”.

There are two Bible verses that sum up Jackie’s life. Second Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

A memorial service to celebrate her wonderful life will be held at Central Park Neighborhood Church on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. We invite her friends and family to come celebrate her life with us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation for the family. Jackie’s medical expenses were exorbitant and the family will need to continue paying on those even in her passing.

Mae H. Maupin

Mae H. Maupin found peace in the arms of her lord on Sept. 15, 2015. She was born on Aug. 17, 1931 at Forks, Wash. and raised on a farm at Quillayute, Wash. She attended Quillayute School until it burned and then Forks High School. She was the daughter of John (Jack) and Bessie Hutsell. She was also the granddaughter of Jim and Mossie Sampair who owned Sampair Service station and cabins south of Forks. Mae was a member of the Quillayute Grange and active in 4-H entering competition at state in Pullman, Wash. In high school she enjoyed being active in drama. She was very knowledgeable in the outdoors, in gardening, hunting and gathering from nature’s abundance. Mae had operated a child care and she was a foster home provider in Portland, Ore.

In 1949 she married Perry H. Maupin. They later divorced. Mae is survived by her children Teresa Darlain, David Nadeau, Portland, Ore., Katherine Fuhrer, Aberdeen, Wash., Holly (Patrick) Carter, Hoquiam, Wash., Julie Maupin, Portland, Ore., Lara (Rosario) Postiglione, Chicago, Ill., two step-children Elizabeth (Perry) Shurbaugh, Manzanita, Ore., and Zachary Maupin.

Mae was a very loving grandmother and close with her 15 grandchildren, her 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, her sister Marie McFadden, half-brother Michael Hutsell, half-sister Nita Tucker, aunt Nettie Nelson, with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mae was preceded in death by her son Dean Maupin, grandsons Alex Maupin, Jason Davis, John Davis and parents John (Jack) and Bessie Hutsell. She will be sorely missed by her lifelong companion Maine Coon Kitty Beau.

Thank you to moms’ special angels that gave their love and care, nurses, Harbor Home and Health care and the Physician Assistant at the community hospital. Blessings to you all.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. at South Aberdeen Baptist Church, 620 Fordney, Aberdeen, Wash. on Oct. 3, 2015. Pastor Bob Kenagy will be officiating. Friends and family may gather at the Lions Club in Cosmopolis, Wash. at noon following the service.

Robert “Bob” Neill Hockett

Robert “Bob” Neill Hockett, 70, passed away peacefully, Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, in Puyallup, Wash. Robert was born on July 12, 1945 in Yakima, Wash. to Wayne and Muriel Hockett. In 1963, he graduated from Montesano High School. In December of 1990, he married the former Lynette Snyder in Tacoma, Wash.

Robert was employed as an insurance adjuster before he retired. He enjoyed adventure, golfing and traveling, and spent much of his youth racing cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed restoring old classic cars, and at one point was the co-owner of Precision Auto body and Aberdeen Suzuki Kawasaki in Aberdeen. In more recent years, he was involved in the First Southern Baptist Church in Buckeye, Ariz., where he and Lynette resided for the past ten years.

Robert is survived by his wife Lynette Hockett; two sisters, Carol Wilson and Sally Johnson, and a brother, Tom Hockett; six children and their spouses, Robin and Mitch Lorenz, Joelle and Paul Nyman and Wendy and Bob Peterson, Kendra Ro, Erik and Jamie Snyder, and Austin Hockett; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Muriel and Wayne; his brother Jerry Hockett; & his granddaughter, Jayden Peterson.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the First Church of God in Montesano.

Frances McMahon Fitzpatrick

Frances McMahon Fitzpatrick, 95, Aberdeen resident and church choir director, organist and pianist, died Sunday evening, Sept. 27, 2015 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Frances was born in New York City on Sept. 8, 1920 to Francis and Gertrude McMahon. She was raised in Binghamton, N.Y. with her half-brother Bill. Frances graduated from St. Paul’s School and spent a year at the prestigious Eastman School of Music where her lifelong love of classical and choral music blossomed. She also attended the Binghamton Business Institute where she received an award for the fastest shorthand speed.

Frances served as Yeoman Second Class in the U.S. Navy’s WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II from July, 1942 to August, 1945. As assistant to the Naval Commander of the submarine school, her duties included recording the experiences of American Officers in Japanese prison camps. In remembrance of her service to her country, her name is inscribed on the Women in Military Service Memorial in Washington D.C.

While on the submarine base in New London, Conn., Frances led the church choir where she met a handsome young sailor named Leo who became her husband. On their honeymoon in 1948, the young couple drove across the country and settled in Leo’s hometown of Aberdeen where they raised nine children. Leo passed away on July 21, 2003.

In spite of the demands of raising a large family, Frances maintained her passion for music and an enduring faith. She was an organist and choir director for many years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. She then served as the choir director at the Hoquiam Presbyterian Church. After moving to Central Park, she sang in the choir and served as a substitute organist at St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano.

Throughout her ninety-five years, Frances exercised her lively mind and had a wide variety of interests that she continued to pursue up until her death. Once her children left home, she took music theory and English classes at Grays Harbor Community College and served as a board member for the Twin County Credit Union. Up until the time of her death, Frances took piano lessons, water aerobics and was an avid reader of mysteries and a lover of crossword puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leo and is survived by her children Mary Fitzpatrick, Cathy Fitzpatrick, Paul Fitzpatrick, Tom Fitzpatrick, Eileen Fitzpatrick, Bill Fitzpatrick, Tim Fitzpatrick, Theresa Wiegand, Helen Fitzpatrick, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations can be made in Frances Fitzpatrick’s name to St. Mary’s Catholic School in Aberdeen and St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano.

A memorial Mass is to take place on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen, Wash. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.

Bette Jean Hasbrouck

Bette Jean Hasbrouck passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Wash., with her family by her side. She was 92.

Bette was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Clarkston, Wash., to Albert and Pauline (McKenzie) Milton and was raised in Tacoma, Wash. She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and worked in various canneries.

Bette married Paul Hasbrouck on April 10, 1948, in Cosmopolis and together they raised seven children.

Bette was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary 3057. She loved traveling to Reno and cooking for her loving family.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, two sons, Bill and Paul, and a daughter Cindy. She is survived by her daughters Sally (Gerry) Egland, Christine (Cliff) Petrick, Cathleen (Gene) Bowman and Paula (Lloyd) Lawhon; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory. Bette’s wishes were to be cremated with her final resting place at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary 311 W. Market Street in Aberdeen, Wash.

Olive L. Morley

Olive Laurie Morley, lifetime resident of the Harbor, died at Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.She was 96.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen with a reception to follow in the Dorothy Mann Reception Room.

Frances P. Fitzpatrick

Aberdeen resident Frances Pauline Fitzpatrick, an organist at many churches, weddings and funerals, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

She was 95.

A memorial Mass will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.

Arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Albert Angevine

SATSOP — Albert G. Angevine, a resident of the Middle Satsop River area for 15 years, died at his home Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015. He was 72.

Claire V. McCollum

Claire V. McCollum, a longtime Pacific County resident died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 in Everett, Wash. She was 87. Claire was born December 18, 1927 at Deep River, Wash. to Joel and Sophie Saima (Wirkkala) Sundquist.

She graduated from Naselle High school in 1946. Claire married Wilbur “Tunny” McCollum June 5, 1946 the day after graduation at the Pacific County Courthouse in South Bend. He preceded her in death in 2008. Together they raised four children.

She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking and baking for the whole family, as well as being an avid gardener. She was a Pacific County 4-H leader in the 1950s and ‘60s. She became supervisor and judge at the Pacific County Fair for the fruits and vegetables building and was also a WSU Master Gardener earning her credentials in the mid 1970s. She loved to teach others about plants and how to care for nature’s bounty. Claire was a member of the United Methodist Church. She loved to read and was quite the book enthusiast. Tunny and Claire were fortunate to have travelled and lived in many foreign countries following Tunny’s work for Weyerhaeuser.

Claire is survived by her daughter Elizabeth McCollum of Lebam, sons Jerry McCollum of Palouse, Wash. and Bruce McCollum and his wife Mary of Vancouver, Wash. She is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Claire was preceded in death by her husband “Tunny” and son Patrick “Lynn” McCollum.

Memorial donations in Claire’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, Alzheimer’s Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or the Raymond Ambulance Fund at 212 Commercial Street, Raymond, WA 98577.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2015 at Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond with burial services to follow at the Fern Hill cemetery in Menlo. Following burial there will be a gathering at the Lebam Community Church Fellowship Hall.

Michael Theodore Dunn 12/23/1951 - 9/20/2015

Mike passed away on Sept. 20, 2015 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash., surrounded by family. He loved the outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and telling stories of growing up in Grays Harbor. He was a life member of the AMVETS post 1926 of Montesano, Wash. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mike was also a longtime log truck driver from the Grays Harbor area.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Reynold and Patricia Dunn, grandparents Charlie and Lena Roberts, Russell and Heldabell Dunn and nephew Tyson Moore.

He is survived by his three children, Celeste and Joseph Benson, Kristopher Dunn and Kayleen Dunn; seven grandchildren, Tabitha, Patrick, Cody, Dakota, Walker, Bryce & Reylynn; great-grandson Charlie; siblings Linda and Mike Moore and John and Mary Dunn; nephews, Jeremy Moore, Cory Moore, and Blake Dunn.

Celebration of Life Potluck is being held at the Aberdeen VFW, 105 E Heron St., Aberdeen, Wash. on Sunday, Oct. 4 from 2-5 p.m.
