Lena T. Jackson

Lena Theresa Jackson, 95, longtime Aberdeen resident, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at Puget Sound Healthcare Center in West Olympia, Wash.

Lena was born on Jan. 6, 1920 in McCleary, Wash. to Richard and Zelmira (Lencioni) Pieruccini. Two years later they moved to Aberdeen, where she went to St. Mary’s Catholic School and in 1939 she graduated from Weatherwax High School.

On June 24, 1939, Lena married Walter Jackson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. He passed away in 1987.

Lena was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts. She was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic church and later Out Lady of Good Help in Hoquiam. She was also a member of Hoquiam Eagles Ladies Aux., REAC #252 and Hoquiam Grandmothers Sunshine Club.

Lena is survived by two daughters, Geri (Gary) Hansen of Green Valley, Ariz. and Pattie (Bob) Canell of Olympia; a brother, Bob Percini of Kirkland; two grandchildren, five great- granddaughters and two great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Bruna Pelligrini; five brothers: Roy, Bruno and his twin Geno and Mario and Lee.

There will be a graveside service for Lena on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 a Noon in Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.

Mark L. Norberg

Mark Lynn Norberg, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 in Aberdeen. He was 62.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Montesano Moose Lodge.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Ellen P. Hess

NEWBERG, ORE. — Ellen Pehl Hess died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at Marquis Care Home in Newberg, Ore. She was 97.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond with Dr. James Hazlett officiating. A luncheon will be held at The Barge Restaurant in Raymond. Burial was held Friday, Oct. 28 at Fern Hill cemetery in Menlo.

Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.

Barbara L. Jeter

Barbara L. Jeter, longtime resident of Aberdeen, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016. She was 63.

She was born in Aberdeen and had been a cashier and clerk at the Aberdeen Salvation Army Store for the last 10 years.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Harbor Praise Center, 801 W. Wishkah St., Aberdeen.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Lee O. Stover

Lee Otis Stover died Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 at his Elma home. He was 86. At Lee’s request, there will be no services held. Harrison Family Mortuary is honored to assist the family.

Marie T. Lawrence

Marie T. Lawrence, an Aberdeen resident for over 65 years, died at Westhaven Villa, Aberdeen, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016. She was 95. A more complete notice will appear later this week in The Daily World.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Montesano. A reception will follow at the church. Private entombment will have taken place in the Sunset Garden at Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Barbara L. Rydman

Barbara Lee Rydman, a resident of Hoquiam, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She was 74.

From 1980 to 1990, she owned and operated Lincoln Street Grocery and later in the 1990s, the Home Grocery on K Street in Hoquiam.

A gathering for friends and family is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Cremation arrangments are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Shirley McElliott

MONTESANO — Montesano resident Shirley A. McElliott died at Montesano Health and Rehab on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015. She was 90.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Opal Miles Heath

RAYMOND — Opal D. Miles Heath, a Raymond resident since 1998, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at the family home. She was 84.

She taught piano for over 40 years and worked nearly 20 years in the dental profession, retiring in 1993.

Donations may be made to the ambulance fund in Raymond at 212 Commercial St.

A funeral is set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church in Raymond. Burial will follow at the Fern Hill cemetery in Menlo.

Arrangements are by Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.

Elizabeth A. (Robertson) Hall, 94, of Shelton, passed away on Oct. 15, 2015. She was born in Montesano, Wash., on July 13, 1921, to John (Jack) Robertson and Fay Pickering.

She graduated from Montesano High School in 1938 and married William L. Hall on Dec. 12, 1939. They moved to Shelton in 1944 and lived in Shelton for most of their lives.

Her first job was opening oysters in the Kamilche area. After her five children were in school, she went to work for the Department of Natural Resources in Olympia, Wash. After a number of years, she went to work for the Squaxin Indian Tribe in the accounting department, from where she retired.

She loved her family and enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time at their river property. She had a passion for working on family genealogy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (William Hall), daughters (Vicki K. Harmon and Sue Ann Madison), brothers (Harold Robertson and Glen Robertson), and sisters (Shirley Sims and Janet Bubnick).

She is survived by her sister Rosemary Hollis (Shobe) of Calif., daughter Dixie Smith, sons, Dale (Bonnie) Hall and Michael Hall, all of Shelton, and 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1200 Connection Street, Shelton, Wash.

Any memorial donations can be made to the Mason County Historical Society.

Jeff Edward Protheroe Sr.

Jeff Edward Protheroe Sr. was born at his Grandmother Walker’s home in Hoquiam on Sept. 2, 1920, to Ed and Sarah “Stella” (Walker) Protheroe. Ed as he was known to most, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 9, 2015, from his home in Hoquiam.

Ed attended Washington Elementary Grade School in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1938. He also attended Grays Harbor College.

During WWII he was drafted but received a deferment because he was an only son and was working at the family business, Economy Cleaners, as a drycleaner with his then-widowed mother. Ed felt compelled to serve his country so, he opted not to accept his second deferment and entered the Army. Because of his skills gained playing trumpet with the Hoquiam High School Band, the Army placed him in the 91st Division Band. His time spent in the Army sent him to North Africa and Italy.

At the end of the war, he returned to his Hoquiam home and resumed his work at Economy Cleaners. He met Helen Virginia Copeland while delivering dry cleaning to her family home and on March 26, 1955, they were married .

They were blessed with three children, Jeff Protheroe (Liz) of Hoquiam, William Protheroe of Arizona and Nancy Norton (Skeeter Benner) of Hoquiam. He has four grandchildren, Heidi (Best) Ellis, Todd Best, Ben Protheroe, Sarah Protheroe, numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In 1997, his wife of 42 years, Helen, passed away. He later married longtime Hoquiam friend, Grace E. Sturm, on July 28, 2003. She survives at the family home.

Ed continued to work at Economy Cleaners, with his son, Jeff, until at the age of 87, Ed decided to retire. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with his family at their summer home on Puget Sound, traveling with his wife, Grace, to Minnesota and Alaska, growing flowers, vegetables and spending time reading.

Ed was the oldest attending member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam at the time of his death.

The family requests memorial gifts be sent to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1200 Soule Avenue, Hoquiam, WA 98550.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, and Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Private interment will be held in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at the Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule Avenue in Hoquiam with Pastor Kent Gravley officiating.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Patsy A. Aubuchon

Patsy A. Aubuchon, 68, of Montesano passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Nov. 2, 2015. She was the daughter of Lyle and Lillian (Beardslee) Valentine. In 1969, she married Norman E. Aubuchon, he passed away in 2006.

Patsy is survived by her children Angi, Toni, Matt (Shelley) Aubuchon; her sisters Mary Secor and Cindy Bowe and her step-father Charles Norris. In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by her father Lyle Valentine, mother Lillian Norris and both grandparents Silver and Alice Valentine and William and Ada Beardslee.

Patsy hobbies were attending NASCAR, World of Outlaw and dirt racing, huge supporter of Jason Reed and enjoyed watching him race his sprint car in Elma and Yakima, knitting, crocheting, she helped with Christmas for Kids, Children of Promise and Operation Christmas Child.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 20 at the Montesano Church of God a potluck reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers (family is allergic) donations can be made to the Montesano Church of God Building Fund or Children of Promise in memory of Patsy.

Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Eileen ‘Gran’ Schafer

Eileen “Gran” Stanley Rissmann Schafer, age 86, a longtime resident of Humptulips, died on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Mrs. Schafer was born on Aug. 26, 1929, in Passaic, N.J., to John Aloysious and Agnes S. (Woodruff) Stanley. She was raised in Nutley, N.J., and graduated from Nutley High School in 1947.

On May 21, 1949, she and Oscar F. Rissmann were married in Nutley, N.J. The couple lived in Nutley and Newark, N.J., until moving to Hainesville, N.J., in 1955. From 1971 to 1982, they lived in Wykertown, N.J., and then moved to the Axford Prairie in 1982. Oscar died in 1988. She was later married to Fred Schafer on Aug. 23, 1997. He died on April 29, 2007.

Eileen loved bluegrass music and was an avid Seahawks fan. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Humptulips Grange and, in younger years, liked to bowl. After graduating high school, she worked for Mutual Benefit as a secretary and stenographer. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked for Montague Tool & Supply. She enjoyed her employment at Aberdeen McDonalds, where she made many friends.

Surviving relatives include children and their spouses, Joanne Vindici of Newton, N.J., Gary and Tamy Rissmann of Humptulips, Wash.; Jacklyn R. and James Lester of Adna, Wash. and Linda Rissmann of Branchville, N.J.; and four grandchildren: Valerio Vindici of Newton, N.J.; Pamela Arcuri of Newton, N.J.; Jason Rissmann of Cosmopolis, Wash.; and Jessica Rissmann of Hoquiam, Wash.

In addition to her spouses, Oscar and Fred, she was preceded in death by her brother, John “Bud” Stanley and great granddaughter Zoe Rissmann.

A gathering is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Donald R. Dobbin

The Celebration of Life gathering for Don Dobbin will be held on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grays Harbor Family Center, 306 E. Third Street, Aberdeen, WA 98520. “Please be welcome to honor Don Dobbin as his Family and Friends gather to celebrate his life. The gathering will be starting at 11:30 a.m. and will honor Don’s life.”

Joanne ‘Jo’ Therson

Joanne ‘Jo’ Therson, age 80, died on Nov. 11, 2015 at her home in Richland, Wash. Jo was born July 17, 1935 to parents Marvin and Irene (Cavallo) McCray in Tacoma, Wash. On Jan. 10, 1974 she married Lou Therson. They have lived in Richland for nine years.

Before retiring, Jo and Lou were the owners of Louie’s Pub. Jo enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and playing the slot machines! She also loved to spend time with her family, playing cards and games.

Jo is survived by her husband, Lou; daughters Sandy Rand, Brenda McCaddon, Darla Thompson; sons Tony Jardine, Terry Jardine and Jeff Pruett, Mike, Chris, Bob and Rick Therson; 41 grand and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Lois and brother Harold.

A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Center, 9353 West Clearwater Avenue, Kennewick on Nov. 20, 2015 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heartlinks Hospice, 3920 Outlook Road, Sunnyside, WA 98944.

Robert H. Stallo

Robert “Bob” Stallo passed away Sept. 24, 2015, at his home in Bellingham after a yearlong bout with kidney cancer.

Bob was born Nov. 13, 1957 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Nancy (Blake) and George Stallo. He graduated from J.M. Weatherwax High School in 1976. While at Aberdeen he was a football player and a successful wrestler, even holding some school scoring records for a while. After high school, Bob attended Grays Harbor College, and was a member of the last football team for that school.

Bob left school, enlisted in the Navy and served four years as a fueling specialist. After leaving the Navy, Bob attended Central Washington University for a few years and finally graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham with a degree in History. While at Western, Bob met his wife Lori working at Simplot Foods in Ferndale. They married a short while later and have lived in Bellingham ever since.

While growing up in Grays Harbor, Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved duck hunting with his cousins and his uncle’s Sam and Frank. Many a day was spent sitting in duck blinds in a driving rain. He also loved fishing and deer hunting.

Bob loved his last job working at Samson Rope Industries in Ferndale. He worked there for 15 plus years and had just been named a supervisor shortly before his death. While working at Samson he obtained his Master’s Degree in Business Leadership.

Bob’s life revolved around his family. He and Lori raised two children, Lisa and Kyle. He constantly bragged about his children, especially Kyle and his exploits on the football and rugby fields and as a wrestler.

Bob is survived by his wife Lori of Bellingham, his daughter Lisa at the family home, and his son Kyle, attending Washington State University. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Stallo of Aberdeen, his sister Cheryl (Earl) Goodwin, his sister Cathy Stallo of Aberdeen, his brother Rick (Michelle) Stallo, and his nieces Tiffany (Chris) McCullough, Richelle Stallo, and great nephew Cain McCullough.

A memorial service will be held at Enterprise cemetery in Bellingham on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. There will be a celebration of life to be held at Hillcrest Chapel in Bellingham the same day at 6:30 p.m. A private memorial will be held locally sometime during the Thanksgiving holiday.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate any donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or Ducks Unlimited.

Bruce J. Gunderson

Bruce Jon Gunderson, 61, of Silverdale died suddenly on Oct. 26, 2015 while camping in the Olympics.

He is survived by Linda, his wife of 40 years, daughter Dominique (Mike) Barnet, son Erik (Sadie) Gunderson, grandchildren Miles Barnet and Olivia Gunderson and his brother Karl Gunderson. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Myrtle Gunderson and brother Gunner Gunderson.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life honoring Bruce’s memory on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 at the Kiana Lodge, Poulsbo, Wash. from 1 - 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the National Parks on Bruce’s behalf or can be deposited into a Bank of America account under the name Karl Gunderson.
