Rachel Elizabeth Russell / Parks
April 15, 1983 - Dec. 25, 2015

Rachel was born on April 15, 1983 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She grew up in Hoquiam and attended Aberdeen High School where she enjoyed singing in the school choir. She graduated with her class of 2002.

Shortly after high school Rachel moved to Oklahoma City, Okla. where she lived for several years before returning to Grays Harbor and establishing residency in Hoquiam.

Rachel worked several different jobs, yet was happiest while working with children. Throughout her life Rachel always maintained a positive attitude, wore a caring smile and was always quick to tell a joke.

Rachel suffered from Antiphospholipid Syndrome and battled a long fight with Lupus. She passed away peacefully at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia on Dec. 25, 2015. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She truly gave her heart to the ones she loved.

She is survived by her husband Richard Parks, her mother Faye Russell, her father and step-mother Richard and Debbie Delaney, her sister Kayleen Dunn, her brother Samuel Delaney, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her grandparents Ed and Joan Gerard, Richard Russell, Rodney and Barbara Ventar, her uncle Tim Robinson as well as her brother Rodney Delaney.

Rachel touched the hearts of many and will be missed by all.

Lucetta E. Bender

Lucetta Ellen Bender of Montesano died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 83.

A memorial mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Lisa Allison

Lisa M. Allison of Aberdeen died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 52.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Wanda F. Vessey

MONTESANO — Wanda Faye Vessey of Montesano died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 83.

A private burial will take place at Odd Fellows cemetery in Elma.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Melissa J. (Carr) Smiley

Visitation for Montesano resident Melissa Jean Carr Smiley, who died Dec. 29 in Olympia, will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

A funeral is planned for noon Thursday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Aberdeen with a reception at 3 at Grays Harbor County Club.

Edward Stolesen

OLYMPIA — Elma resident Edward Stolesen died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 86.

Arrangements are by McComb &Wagner Funeral Home in Shelton.

Melissa Jean Carr Smiley

Melissa Jean Carr Smiley, 41, of Montesano bravely battled cancer for the past 18 months and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Melissa was born Jan. 4, 1974 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Charles “Buck” and Marlene (Turner) Carr.

Melissa was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School and attended Grays Harbor College. She was involved in Leadership all four years of high school, she played volleyball in junior high and high school, Terry Daneker School of Dance for 10 years, was on the YMCA swim team and played on the family sponsored co-ed softball team.

While in high school she worked at Grays Harbor Country Club, then worked for the family business before going into banking at Anchor Bank.

On March 31, 2002 Melissa married Kyle Smiley. On Dec. 19, 2015 they renewed their vows. He and their two daughters survive her at the family home.

Melissa loved watching her daughters play sports, band, basketball and fastpitch. Her favorite past time was spending time at the family cabin at Hood Canal with family and friends. Melissa, Kyle, Madison and Gabbie enjoyed going on family hikes and enjoyed their time at their lot at Wynochee Wildwood.

In addition to her husband Kyle and daughters Madison and Gabbie she is also survived by her parents Buck and Marlene Carr of Montesano; her sister Jennifer (Bob) niece Gracelyn and nephew Braxton of Aberdeen, sister, Megan and nephew Alex of Montesano; brother Charlie (Abby) nephew Rayce and brother Andrew (Amanda) and niece Aubrey all of Aberdeen; her grandmother Martha Carr and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; sister-in-laws Belinda Dixon (Tamario) nephew Josh and Jennifer Hawley and nephews Austin and Max.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary, 311 W. Market St. A funeral service is scheduled for 12 noon on Thursday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 400 E. First St. in Aberdeen. A reception will take place at 3 p.m. at Grays Harbor Country Club. A private burial will be at Satsop cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Arlis J. Barnes

RAYMOND — Arlis Junior Barnes, a Raymond resident, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016 at his home in Raymond. He was 80.

He worked as a logger after serving in the United States Army and Marine Corps.

No memorial services will be held at this time.

Cremation arrangements were by Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.

George Croker

George Croker, 93, died Jan. 2, 2016, with his family at his bedside in Bellevue, Wash. He was born and raised in Whiting, Iowa, in 1922, son of William Whiting Croker and Marguerite Worrell Croker. George had two sisters, Louise and Kitty. He was the son of a corn and soybean farmer. Sadly William and Louise both succumbed to pneumonia the winter George was four years old. Marguerite raised both children while teaching grade school in Whiting. It was a family affair with many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

While George was in college at Iowa State University, the Pearl Harbor tragedy occurred and the beginning of WWII. George and six of his best friends and cousins enlisted. George became a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and he flew P38 and P47 fighter llanes stationed in England and France. While in pilot training in Moses Lake, Wash., he met Patty Goss from Wenatchee, Wash. They kept in touch through the war and they met again at Washington State University and married in 1947. He was a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

George was employed by Standard Oil and he and Patty were transferred every two years with the company living in many different cities, even moving as far away as Bombay, India, where he was a manager for the European Division, Caltex. George and Patty finally settled in Hoquiam, Wash., with their two children. When Chevron purchased Standard Oil, the company offered them the opportunity to manage the bulk plant in Aberdeen and purchase Lawrence and Macon Fuel in Hoquiam. Patty Croker passed away in 1980 from cancer.

However, the story had a happy ending when George met Marilyn Patnode. They were married for the past 34 years and resided in Central Park, Wash., before moving to Bellevue three years ago. George was interested in civic activities and was involved in Rotary Club for 40 years. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Grays Harbor Country Club for 50 years. One of the things that distinguished George is that he loved to smoke his pipe and would set it on the grass next to the tee before he took his golf swing! His favorite hobbies were traveling with Marilyn, fishing, playing poker, watching sports and gardening.

George was preceded in death by both Patty and Marilyn and his step-sister Avis Mayne Patterson. He is survived by his sister Kitty Croker Aderman, son Charlie Croker and daughter Shirley Croker Alderson and three step-children Carolynn James, Bryce Patnode and Steve Patnode, grandchildren David Patnode, Jamie Patnode and Audi Patnode and great-grandchildren Miles, Blair and Mayer Patnode.

A reception will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. at Grays Harbor Country Club.

Irene Ida (Kuronen) Terry

Irene Ida (Kuronen) Terry passed away on Dec. 24, 2015, at 7:15 a.m. at the age of 69. She ws the daughter of George and Sophie Kuronen, sister to Donald, Michael and Kenneth Kuronen, wife of Stanley Terry and mother to Eero and Maya Terry.

Irene was born in Aberdeen, Wash. on Nov. 12, 1946 and graduated from Weatherwax High School. She went on to work at the local Dairy Queen, Biglow Chevrolet and retired from Westlund Buick GMC in Shoreline.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest brothers Donald and Michael, and Stanley, her husband of 44 years. She is survived by her brother Kenneth (Garnet) and her two children. She had been struggling with Alzheimer’s for the last several years, most of which were good. She was beautiful both inside and out. She will be missed dearly by many.

Katherine A. Gomery

Katherine Anna Gomery, one of Grays Harbor oldest residents, died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at the age of 110. She was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada, on Feb. 24, 1905.

As a baby she moved with her family to San Francisco and then Germany. After the war she was able to return to America in her 20s. Perhaps a trying childhood toughened her for a long life. She survived the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, World War I in Germany, starvation and the Spanish Flu, all before her 13th birthday.

Katherine was married to Fred Warias in the 1920s, and he died in a construction accident, leaving her a widow with a young son, Al, at 27 just at the start of the great depression. In the 1930s she married Joseph Gomery and had a second son, Victor. Joseph died in 1963 and her first son, Al, died of cancer that same decade. Katherine had also outlived her three brothers.

She had been a blueprint clerk for Cannon Electric in Los Angeles and retired in the late 1960s. She moved to Seattle in the early 1970s and had lived at Wesley Terrace, Des Moines. She would come to Brooklyn in the North River area in 1996 and then had lived in Aberdeen with her son.

Katherine is survived by a son, Victor and his wife Maryann, Aberdeen; three grandchildren: Eddie Gomery, Sandy Lauer and Aletha Swanson; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the North River cemetery, Brooklyn.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, 2208 Roosevelt St., Aberdeen.

Lisa M. Allison

Lisa Marie Allison, 52, of Aberdeen died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Lisa was born Sept. 6, 1963 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Earl and Barbara (Leonard) Johnson.

Lisa married Jon Allison and they later divorced.

Lisa had worked as a waitress in local restaurants, most recently at Billy’s. Lisa received her A.A. in Criminal Justice at Grays Harbor College and also took classes towards her master’s degree. She was a detention officer at G.H. Juvenile Facility and a driver for CCAP. Lisa loved her co-workers and was also loved by many of them.

Lisa was very proud of her new home. She enjoyed spending time with Paul and her sons Cole and Noah. She also liked to watch the Seahawks and spend time with her little dog Milo.

Lisa is survived by her mother Barbara Johnson of Aberdeen; two sons Cole and Noah Allison both of Aberdeen; her significant other Paul Wood of Cosmopolis; two brothers Jerry (Dianna) and Jeff Johnson of Aberdeen and also her sister Lori Benner of Cosmopolis.

She was preceded in death by her father Earl Johnson, Lisa and he shared the same birthday.

In lieu of flowers donations in Lisa’s name should be made to PAWS. Her little dog Milo was a rescue dog and she truly loved him.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Harrison Family Mortuary located at 311 W. Market St. in Aberdeen.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Patrick D. O’Connor Sr.

Patrick Dennis O’Connor Sr., a lifelong Aberdeen resident, passed away Jan. 4, 2016, at age 83. He was the son of William and Frances O’Connor, descendants of a prominent pioneer family on the Harbor.

Pat was born June 16, 1932, and was a Weatherwax High School graduate in 1950. He also attended Grays Harbor College and was inducted into the Choker Sports Hall of Fame for basketball.

Under the close friendship of Kearny Clark, Pat became a successful printer and purchased the Clark family printing business where he printed the newspaper Grays Harbor Post. In addition, Pat worked in the fishing industry and was a licensed card dealer.

Pat enjoyed crossword puzzles, cards, meeting his friends at the VFW and attending weekly Mass at St. Mary Church. He was known for his free spirit and was well liked by his many friends who meant so much to him.

Pat married Linda Wirkkala in 1953 and had five wonderful children. All his children were at his side during his last days as this was his final request.

Pat is survived by his sister, Marilyn Melart, brother Mike O’Connor and his children, Patrick O’Connor Jr., Kitty O’Connor, Tom O’Connor, John O’Connor and Ann Chancellor and five grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life on Jan. 16, 2016 at St. Mary Parish Center Aberdeen, Wash., from 2-4 p.m. for those who would like to attend.

A mass in remembrance of Pat will be said on Jan. 17, 2016 at 9 a.m. Donations may be given to the Cancer Society.

Albert L. Erickson

Albert L. Erickson, 91, died Dec. 19, 2015, at Mason General Hospital in Shelton. He was born July 28, 1924, in Elma to Victor and Lena Erickson. He married Esther Joy, in 1949. They were married 58 years and had four children. He was a dairy farmer on South Bank Rd near Porter.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2007, a daughter, a grandson, his brother, Ed, and sister, Marie.

Albert is survived by daughter, Cheryl (Charlie) Travaglione of Shelton; son, Dennis (Falina) Erickson of Centralia; son, Art Erickson (Shannon Johnson) of McCleary, sister, Shirley (Gary) Joplin of Elma; sister-in-law, Maggie Erickson of Elma; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Dec. 30 at Masonic cemetery in Elma with a celebration of life to be held next July. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oakville Fire Fighters for Family in memory of Albert Erickson, and sent to Oakville Fire Dept., P.O. Box 6, Oakville, WA 98568.

Christina Marie Trapp Dec. 11, 1948 - Nov. 28, 2015

Christina lived the way she wished. She was an artist, a twin, adventurer, little sister, designer, friend, builder, lover of dogs, master gardener, educator, friend, skier, lover of men, chef, a Baha’i and student of life.

Christina passed away on Nov. 28 just before her 67th birthday after conquering her latest adventure and dream of moving to Costa Rica. She thrived in Manuel Antonio, enjoying the weather and beaches and made many new friends. Christina lived a full life, earning a degree in Education from Western Washington University where she made life-long friends and joined Delta Gamma Sorority. Christina taught in Austria, on a Navajo reservation in Kayenta, Ariz. and was teaching English in Costa Rica at the time of her death. Christina was a business woman. She was a licensed Real Estate agent and purchased and improved many properties of her own throughout her life. Christina married twice. Christina moved to Grayland in 2006 where she was a supportive, active great aunt to Kurt and Kyle Bambauer and aunt to Kim Bambauer of Westport. She immersed herself into the Grays Harbor community, volunteering at the Maritime Museum and Kinnikinnick Garden Club. She was a member of the Aberdeen Baha’i Community. Christina will be greatly missed by her older sister, Ellen Price of Fresno, her twin sister Dina Trapp of Aberdeen as well as many other family members and friends.

There will be a Time of Remembering of Christina at the home of Sandy and Mery Swanson at 301 North H Street in Aberdeen, Sunday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m.

Catherine Nelson

A memorial service for Aberdeen resident Catherine Nelson, who died Dec. 16 in Othello, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Ocosta Rec Hall.

Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello.

Richard L. Herman

Aberdeen resident Richard Leon Herman died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at his home. He was 74.

Arrangements are by McComb &Wagner Funeral Home in Shelton.

Helen P. Williams

Aberdeen resident Helen Patricia Williams died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at Pacific Care Center in Aberdeen. She was 85.
