Chris Reutercrona

Chris Reutercrona, 60, died at his home in Tacoma on Jan. 16, 2016 due to complications of a massive stroke. He was born in Aberdeen, Wash. on Oct. 26, 1955 to Eric and Barbara Reutercrona of Montesano.

Including his parents, he is survived by his two lovely teenage daughters, Claudia and Eva of Gig Harbor. Surviving also is a brother Scott of Tacoma, a brother David of Richland, Wash., nieces Carol and Renae of Tacoma, nephew Jordan and niece Hannah of Mercer Island, Wash. He was preceded in death by a brother Craig.

Chris graduated from Aberdeen High School. He went on to enjoy many diverse jobs. Among those, commercial fishing with his Dad in Alaska and playing in a band as backup to his brother David in numerous clubs in Seattle. He went on to work for Weyerhaeuser as an I.T. services manager for human resources. In 2004 he went to work for Russell Investments of Seattle as a project manager. He worked there for 10 years.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his two daughters, who he adored, traveling to destinations in many different parts of the world, one of which was Hawaii, which they considered their second home.

A celebration of life for Chris will be held on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Titlow Lodge, 8465 6th Ave., Tacoma, Wash.

Col. (Ret.) Arnold L. Julich

Col. (Ret.) Arnold (Arnie) Julich passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2016.

Arnie moved with his family to the Tacoma area as a teenager, and graduated from Lakes High School. He attended the U.S. Air Force Academy, graduating in 1968. He then spent 27 years serving his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force where he was a pilot. He flew both KC-135 tanker and B-52 bomber aircraft, held several command positions, and was both a Vietnam and Southwest Asia veteran. After retiring from the Air Force, Arnie moved to Ocean Shores, and spent 7 years working for the Quinault Indian Nation.

Arnie will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Tanya. They were married for 47 wonderful years. He will also be missed by son Mark (wife Tracie), granddaughter Melissa, brothers Nick, Jim, Tom (wife Mary), and Terry (wife Lee), sister Pam (husband Mike), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arnie loved family. He was the “leader of the pack, ” and the one we all looked up to for guidance, a bit of humor and reassurance. We will always remember and miss his calm demeanor, wise counsel, quick smile and joy of life.

Arnie loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clamming, golfing and long walks near the beach. He especially enjoyed doing those activities with family and friends. He also had a major role in training their horse, Gus.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ocean Shores Baptist Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Aberdeen Union Gospel Mission.

Marjorie D. Valdillez

Marjorie Doreen Valdillez passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2016, at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with her family by her side.

Born on July 1, 1943, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Mauro Basa and Violet Hudson Kintanar. ‘Margie, ” as she was fondly called, lived most of her life in Taholah and also lived in Phoenix, Ariz, Aloha and Moclips, Wash. Margie married the love of her life, Salvador R. Valdillez, and they had two daughters, Salvina and Alfreda.

Margie loved to spend time with her family, who were her first priority. Family members often came to her house to visit so Margie began calling this gathering her “Breakfast and Coffee Club” and family always knew they were welcome to eat and visit.

Margie strongly believed in a good education. She attended school in Sumner, Moclips High School, Grays Harbor College and The Evergreen State College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree at the age of 61.

Margie dedicated most of her life serving the Quinault Indian Nation as the elected position of QIN Secretary for many years, employee and volunteer. After attending Grays Harbor College in 1973, she first worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Taholah School and Indian Health Service. Then in 1978, she came to work for the Quinault Indian Nation in various capacities as the enrollment officer, office manager, operations manager and QIN Secretary.

Margie’s enduring passion and commitment to her community and her beliefs was clearly evident through her volunteer work at the Bible Lighthouse Fellowship Church, with the Girl Scouts, Brownies and Bluebirds.

Her travels for work or family brought her to Hawaii, New York, Alaska, Washington, D.C., California, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and South Dakota. Margie loved to bead, sew, bake, cook, make baskets, carve, read and attend sporting events.

Margie will always and forever be remembered for her generosity and kindness, her gentle patience, passion for her people and her graciousness toward all.

Margie was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Salvina Valdillez-Patten, her brothers Alfred Basa and Gary Kintanar and her sister Candace Kintanar.

She is survived by her husband, Salvador Valdillez; daughter, Alfreda Charlie of Tulalip; brothers, Daniel Papp Sr., Taholah, Joseph Kintanar, Taholah, and Mauro Basa Jr., New York; sisters, Genevieve Papp, Moclips, Judith Edwards, Taholah, and Delphina Behen, Shoreline; and grandchildren, Kalvin Charlie, Michael Patten and Shantal Charlie.

A service for friends and family will be held at the Taholah Community Center on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. A graveside service with vault interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam. A dinner will be held at the Taholah Community Center later in the afternoon.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Judith A. Smith (Eygabroad)

Judith Ann Smith (Eygabroad) whom friends knew as Judi, passed away on Jan. 7, 2016 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Judi was born Dec. 1, 1949 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Paul and June Eygabroad. Judi married Don Smith on May 24, 1969 at her parents’ home in McCleary, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and June, and her sister Rose, and granddaughter Isabella. Judi is survived by her brother Dennis, husband Don and children; son and daughter-in-law Kirk and Heather Smith, Greg Smith, and daughter and son-in-law Kara and Fred Ginestar. She leaves ten grandchildren.

Judi attended kindergarten through eighth grade in McCleary, Wash and high school in Elma, Wash., graduating in 1968.

Judi worked several years for the State of Washington Motor Pool in Olympia, Wash. as clerical support. Later years she was clerical support for the State Watermaster’s Office in Lakeview, Ore. until 1998.

Judy enjoyed sewing, photography, cooking, camping at the beach, time spent with family and doing special things for her friends.

A graveside memorial is planned for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at the McCleary cemetery, McCleary, Wash., with potluck following at the McCleary Elementary School, 611 S Main St.

Family requests no monetary contributions or flowers. Those wishing to make donations can do so to: Lakeview Home Health and Hospice at 700 S J St. in Lakeview, or donors choice.

Chester Charles “Chet” Jolly Jr.

Chester Charles ‘Chet’ Jolly Jr., 77, Aberdeen resident and former owner of Harbor Physical Therapy, passed away Saturday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Chet was born on March 21, 1938, in San Diego, Calif., to Chester Charles and Geraldine ( Bernard ) Jolly Sr. His family moved to South America for five years before moving to Oakland, Calif., where Chet graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland. In 1956, Chet moved to Missoula, Mont., where he attended the University of Montana and graduated in 1960. He then moved to Houston, Texas, and obtained his master’s degree in Physical Therapy at the Herman School of Physical Therapy in 1962.

Chet returned to Oakland and on June 8, 1962, he married Evelyn Johnson. In 1968, Chet and his family moved to Aberdeen, where he went to work at St. Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen and in 1976, Chet opened Harbor Physical Therapy and operated that until his retirement in 2004.

Chet was a member of the Aberdeen Rotary Club, The Grays Harbor Country Club, Past President of the Washington State Physical Therapists Association, Past President of the YMCA Board of Directors and Past President of the Grays Harbor College Foundation. Chet also enjoyed playing golf, travel, skiing, painting and photography. He enjoyed being with his family and friends most of all.

Chet is survived by a son, Craig Jolly of Sacramento, Calif., a daughter, Lisa Jolly of Olympia; a sister Gerri (Howard) Isham of San Leandro, Calif.; three grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler and Chad. Chet was preceded in death by a son, Eric Jolly in 1994.

A celebration of Chet’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at noon at Cornerstone Church in Aberdeen with reception to follow at the church.

The family suggests donations in Chet’s memory be made to YMCA of Grays Harbor or Grays Harbor College Foundation.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Quinault elder Marjorie Valdillez dies at 72

Marjorie D. (Basa) Valdillez

OLYMPIA — Quinault tribal elder Marjorie Doreen (Basa) Valdillez died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 72.

After attending Grays Harbor College in 1973, she had worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Taholah School, the Indian Health Service and later the Quinault Nation, where she as enrollment officer, office manager, operations manager and tribal secretary, according to Quinault President Fawn Sharp. She served on the Quinault Tribal Council for many years.

“Marjorie always believed strongly in education. She earned a BA degree from The Evergreen State College Reservation-based Program when she was 61 and she always supported education programs for others in the Tribe, ” Sharp said in a press release.

Nancy M. Hagara

Nancy passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 1, 2016. She was born on July 25, 1949 to Jim and Stella Replogle. She was raised in Hoquiam and graduated High School in 1967.

Nancy loved being with friends and making new ones, and working around in home decorating, cooking and crocheting.

She married Tom C. Hagara on May 20, 1974 in Reno, Nev.

She is survived by her husband Tom C. Hagara; children Jamie and Joyce Hagara, Tom P. and Christine Hagara, David and Becky Hagara, Jackie Broten and Dennis Hagara; 13 grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Charles L. “Charlie” Everitt Sr.

Charles L. “Charlie” Everitt Sr., passed away at the age of 91 on Jan. 25, 2016, at his residence in Hoquiam, Wash., following a brief illness.

Charlie was born March 27, 1924, at South Bend, Wash., to Glenn H. and Margaret (Kilpatrick) Everitt. He was the seventh of eight children. He and his siblings remained close for a lifetime. He attended school in South Bend, and graduated from South Bend High School in 1942. He was an excellent athlete, particularly in track. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving most of his time in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged in December, 1945.

Charlie married Amy Stromsness of South Bend on Oct. 24, 1947. They moved to Seattle, where he was occupied primarily as a warehouseman and truck driver. He was proud of his Teamsters’ Union affiliation. Charlie and Amy had four sons, Paul (Elaine) of Kenmore, Jeffrey (Dawn) of Tacoma, David (Sharilyn) of Central Park, and Charles Jr. He was preceded in death his parents; siblings; wife, Amy, and son, Charles.

Charlie had a love of the outdoors, and was an avid deer and elk hunter. He always enjoyed visiting family.

He retired in 1986, and returned to South Bend in 1992. He traveled to his parents’ birthplaces in Ohio, and to Notre Dame University, whose football team his followed passionately. He also made a trip to his ancestral land of Ireland in 1996.

In 2009, he moved to Channel Point Village in Hoquiam, where he enjoyed the company of a special friend, Clarise Danzer, until her passage in 2014.

Charlie is survived by his sons, Paul, Jeff, and David, and their spouses; grandchildren, MaryAnne Wuennecke, John Everitt, Jeff Everitt, Scotty Stead and Dany Stead, Zach Yeager and Orrin Doyle; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Enough cannot be said about the love and care provided for him by the entire staff at Channel Point Village, who came to be family to him in every way. At his request, there will be no services. His cremated remains will be interred with his wife, Amy and son, Charles Jr. at the Fern Hill cemetery in Menlo at a later date.

“If there’s a twinkle in his eye, listen closely, for a laugh is sure to follow.” (South Bend High School Annual, 1942)

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Patricia A. Sinem

Patricia Ann Sinem, 57, of Aberdeen, Wash., passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Patty was born on June 4, 1958.

Patty married Kose Sinem on Nov. 4, 1978, in Elma, Wash. He survives her at the family home.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Patty is survived by her husband, daughters Kaylee and Kourtney Sinem, two grandchildren Juliana and Julio Hernandez, mother Ramona Horton, sisters Donna Hensel and Dianna Monroe, all of Aberdeen, Wash. as well as a sister Teresa Davidson of Seattle, Wash. She was preceded in death by her father Wes Horton.

A gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Ronald E. Solheim

Aberdeen resident Ronald Erling Solheim died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, in Olympia. He was 80.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wishkah Valley Community Church.

Carlton Rhoades

A memorial service and potluck for longtime Pacific County resident Carlton. Rhoades, who died Dec. 6, 2015, in Tacoma, will be held at noon, Saturday at the Faith Center in Bay Center.

Donations are suggested to the Chinook Nation.

Goldie Wright

Goldie J. Wright, longtime resident of Aberdeen, died at her home Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016. She was 83.

She had been a nurses’ aid at Harbor Healthcare Center in South Aberdeen.

Arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

David Olsen

David Olsen, 96, Aberdeen resident and former Battalion Chief for Aberdeen Fire Department, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 2016, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Wash.

David was born on Dec. 16, 1919, in South Bend, Wash., to Paul and Eugenia (Pedersen) Olsen. He attended school in South Bend and in 1943, he joined the Army. He was part of the 1394th Construction Battalion stationed in Cebu, Philippians where he helped build roads, bridges and hospitals. He was Honorably Discharged in January 1946 and returned to Aberdeen.

On Sept. 21, 1946, David married Mary Delia Grgurinovich in St. Mary’s Parish House. Mary died on July 3, 2006, in Aberdeen.

David went to work for the Aberdeen Fire Dept. on Sept. 4, 1950, and upon his retirement on Feb. 4, 1978, was the Battalion Chief of the Aberdeen Fire Dept.

He was a member of the Aberdeen VFW and Aberdeen Elks Lodge. He liked to play golf and go hunting and fishing. He also liked to travel with his wife and family including trips to Hawaii, China, Yugoslavia, England and Russia.

David is survived by a son Paul and wife Martha of Battle Ground, Wash. and a daughter Nancy Olsen of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Jessica (Jared) Zabaldo of Happy Valley, Ore. with their children: Sydney, Jordan and Roslyn. He was preceded in death by a grandson Austin Olsen.

A funeral service with military honors for David, will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at noon in Fern Hill Funeral Home Chapel. A lunch reception will follow the chapel service at the Aberdeen Elk Club at 1 p.m. He will later be entombed at Fern Hill Mausoleum with his wife Mary.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
