Bud Finch age 82 of Chewelah, WA died on Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at Spokane, WA and was born on November 7, 1917 at Fairfield, ID. Survivors include Wife, R. M. Finch, Chewelah, WA; Son, Bob Finch, Elk, WA; Daughter, Barbara Hoy, Portland, OR; Daughter, Sharon Malatt, Valley, WA; Daughter, Katie Wares, Deer Park, WA; Brother, Charley Finch, Springfield, OR; Brother, Mr. Grant Finch, Caldwell, ID; Sister, Audrey Miller, Saint Anthony, ID; Sister, Erma Shockley, Saint Anthony, ID. Many nieces & nephews , 11 grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren 1 great-great-grandchildren Bud and Merrie were married in 1954 at Superior, Montana. They came to Chewelah from Lewiston in 1959. Bud was a boilermaker and worked on many dams in the Northwest retireing in 1980 after 37 years. The family also raised Black Angus cattle. Bud was a member of Union Local 242. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, welding, and rodeo. Norman Arthur Followwill age 84 of Springdale, WA died on Friday, December 22, 2000 at Spokane, WA and was born on October 22, 1916 at Worthington, MO. Survivors include Wife, Mary Followwill, Springdale, WA; Son, Chuck Followwill, Springdale, WA; Son, Dave Temple, Spokane, WA; Daughter, Sharon Leliefeld, Deer Park, WA; Daughter, Paulette Ritter, Choctaw, OK; Sister, Oda Beal, Greentop, MO; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 0 great-great-grandchildren. The family has lived in the Springdale area since 1956. Norman was an Army Veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart Medal. Norman worked for Kostich sawmill in Springdale, logged for Boise Cascade Lumber, and trapped beaver and mink for the Government. He was a member of American Legion Post #54 and the D.A.V. Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and animals (especially dogs). Norman was preceded in death by one son, Gary in 1977. Dale William Green age 61 of Addy, WA died on Friday, January 29, 1999 at Addy, WA and was born on July 8, 1937 at Shelton, WA. Survivors include Wife, Ruth Green, Addy, WA; Son, Kevin Green, Chewelah, WA; Daughter, Kathi Garcia, Soldotna, AK; Daughter, Keri Green, Soldotna, AK; Brother, Art Green, Addy, WA; Brother, Leslie Green, Shelton, WA; Sister, Mary Kielblock, Albany, OR; Sister, Gladys Schnell, Olympia, WA; Sister, Beth Sutton, Tacoma, WA, and 5 grandchildren. Dale has lived in the Summit Valley area for the last 47 years. He married Ruth Hanson September 30, 1961. Dale had his own heavy equipment business and the family farm. He was involved in 4-H and very active in the Summit Valley community. Dale was a member of the Summit Valley Community Church, and served in the United States Air Force. Donald died as a result of an automobile accident. He married Darlene Zerba July 6, 1996. They lived in Spokane for 4 years and moved to Addy 1 1/2 years ago. Donald worked for Patburg Logging. He loved to fish, hunt, and build. Donald was a devoted family man and loved life. He also loved the Lord. Hubert, Albert "Al" Otto

Albert "Al" Otto Hubert age 82 of Chewelah, WA died on Sunday, May 23, 1999 at Chewelah, WA and was born on May 18, 1917 at Addy, WA. Survivors include Wife Alice Hubert Chewelah, WA Son Dave & wife Mary Hubert Metaline Falls, WA; Son, Lee Hubert, Chattaroy, WA; Son, Peter Hubert, Mead, WA; Daughter, Mary & husband Mike Cosner, Chattaroy, WA. Al was the third son of Matilda and B.A. Hubert. He attended school in Chewelah where he moved with his family and graduated in 1937 from Jenkins High School. Following graduation he went to work for Northwest Magnesite Quarry. In 1941 he married Alice Anderson, and they had 4 children. After living at the Quarry for 5 years, the family moved to Chewelah where they have lived since. Al was a member of the Steelworkers and served several years as local treasurer. He also had been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Following the closure of Northwest Magnesite he held several jobs where he enjoyed being in the outdoors, as a road builder, powder monkey, and heavy equipment operation. Al was an avid wood cutter, huckleberry picker, hunter, fisherman, and card player. He also sharpened chainsaw chains for people around Chewelah. Al was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. Al and Alice have 10 grandchildren; Toni, Teri, Trevor, Mike, Bud, Dan, Davey, Anna, Becky, & Joel and 2 great grandchildren; Nicky and Justin, and several cousins.. Houchens, Chewelah, WA; Sister, Erica Barsch, Darmstadt, Germany; Sister, Val Riley, Staten Island, NY; 10 grandchildren. Ursula came to the United States in 1956. She was a waitress in many of the restaurants in Chewelah for the past 20 years, the last being the Park Avenue. Ursula was a people person. She especially loved her family and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Ursula loved the life in the country and horses. Ursula loved all her many friends and co-workers.. Survivors include Wife, Betty Hartill, Chewelah, WA; Son, Gerald Hartill & wife Mary Lou Bolton, Phoenix, AZ; Son, Donald & wife Marian Hartill, Ithaca, NY; Daughter, Bernice & husband Ron Keadle, Moses Lake, WA; Sister, Irene Hamilton, Vancouver, WA; Step son, Robin & wife, Diane Cole, Newman Lake, WA; Sister-in-Law, Edna Hartill; Vancouver, WA; Sister-in-Law, Eva Bakie, Valley, WA. Numerous nieces & nephews, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Julian's parents were David and Ella Hartill. He graduated from Jenkins High School in 1930. Julian farmed in the Cozy Nook area for many years and worked for the State Highway Department. He retired in 1977. Julian married Florence Bakie in 1936. She preceded him in death in 1977. He married Betty Cole in 1981. Julian was also preceded in death by an infant son, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Wendell Ray Hinchliff age 78 of Chewelah, WA died on Thursday, May 4, 2000 at Chewelah, WA and was born on May 29, 1921 at Killam, Alberta, Canada. Survivors include Wife, Rose M. Hinchliff, Chewelah, WA; Son, Bill Hinchliff, Spokane, WA; Son, Jim Hinchliff, Deer Park, WA; Daughter, Lora Biondi, Spokane, WA; Daughter, Joan Dudney, Coeur D'Alene, ID; Daughter, Barbara Hinchliff, Ellensburg, WA; Daughter, Marie Schneider, Chewelah, WA; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Wendell's parents were William and Lora Hinchliff. At the age of 2, the family moved to Post Falls, Idaho to start up the family's farm. Wendell's favorite childhood memory of growing up on the farm was working with his team of horses. He joined the U.S. Navy in August of 1942. During his tour, he served in the Pacific Theater. He became reacquainted with Rose Mary Winey and they were married in San Diego, CA on April 12, 1945. Wendell was discharged from the service in October of 1945 and he and Mary returned to Post Falls, Idaho, where their six children were born. Wendell worked at the Ohio Match in Hutter, Idaho until 1957 when they purchased a dairy farm and moved their family to Valley, WA. He worked for many years at the Tomshaw Sawmill in Valley. He retired from Plum Creek Sawmill in Arden, WA as head scaler. Wendell was a member of the Holy Ghost Parish for 43 years at Valley, Washington and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Dusty Schneider, and a brother Brad. Wendell loved his children, his family, and fishing. He will be greatly missed.. Survivors include Husband, Al Hurbi, Valley, WA; Son, David & wife Jeanette Hurbi, Spokane, WA; Son, Marty & wife Tracy Hurbi, Pittsburgh, PA; Son, Raymond & wife Crystal Hurbi, Fairbanks, AK; Son, Robert & wife Sheryl Hurbi, Simi Valley, CA; Daughter, Rita Dickey & husband Robert Roray, Olympia, WA; Daughter, Loretta & husband Roy Stoltenberg, Kodiak, AK; Daughter, Irene & husband Jack Thompson, Seattle, WA; Brother, Father Charles Skok, Spokane, WA; Brother, Jasper Skok, Mercer Island, WA; Brother, John Skok, Spokane, WA; 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Agnes was the daughter of Joseph and Annie (Salokar) Skok, Jump Off Joe, Washington. She was the third of 15 children in the family. The family had settled in the Jump Off Joe area in 1908. Agnes graduated from Valley High School in 1931 and Holy Names Normal School in 1934. She was a teacher at Hors Spur, Loon Lake, and Twelve Mile schools during the 1930's and early 1940's. On June 6, 1942 Agnes married Al Hurbi at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Jump Off Joe. Agnes maintained the household, cooking for the family and field crews at the family cattle farm at Valley, Washington. Her passions were her family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Agnes enjoyed reading, helping out at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and playing cards with her grandchildren. Sunday drives were a favorite activity while raising her seven children. She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the Altar Society at Valley, Washington. Vigil service will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Wednesday, June 7, 2000, 7:00 PM . Survivors include Wife, Mary Jennings, Chewelah, WA; Son, Richard A. Jennings, Issaquah, WA 3 grandchildren 5 great-grandchildren 1 great-great-grandchild. Mary and Dele celebrated their 70th anniversary on September 1st of this year. They have lived in Steven County all their lives and farmed in the Cedonia area until 1967. Dele worked for the National Forest Service from 1970 to 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, dogs, and picking huckleberries. Survivors include Son, Gregg Leibert, Chewelah, WA; Daughter, Denise Putz, Neuman Lake, WA; Grandson, Chad Cook, Tampa, FL; and 2 Nieces. Rose has lived in Chewelah for over 8 years. She lived in Utah prior to that. Rose was an office manager for the Employment Security Department. She was a licensed pilot and a member of the Eastern Star. Rose loved to travel around the world, gardening, and sewing. She found her greatest pleasure in other's happiness.. Funeral service will be held at Schanzenbach Funeral Home, Saturday, November 13, 1999, 11:00 AM at with Pastor Donald Swanson officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Walla Walla, WA. Memorials may be made to New Home Health Hospice, P.O. Box 808, Chewelah, WA 99109. So others may be assisted during difficult times.. He worked most of his life in road construction. William and his wife Rachel were married for 52 years. She preceded him in death in 1991. William enjoyed living in his home near Waitts Lake for over 40 years. He loved the outdoors, wildlife, and fishing.
