Mack William Johnson passed away Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, WA at the age of 83 years. He was born July 11, 1920 in Newland, Avery County, North Carolina the son of Hardy and Lititia McKinney Johnson. Mack has been a resident of Sedro-Woolley since 1943 coming here from North Carolina. He was married to Velta M. “Johnnie” Burleson in 1946 in Anacortes and in 1945 he served with the US Army during WWII. Mack worked as a logger for many years and enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing on the Skagit River. He is survived by a brother Kernell Johnson of Newland, North Carolina and 2 sisters Della Johnson Lasley of Upland, California and Revonda Green of Somerset, Kentucky. 2 brothers in law and sisters in law Mack and Patty Burleson of Sedro-Woolley and Tom and Elsie Fladebo of Burlington and a sister in law Tina Jones of Forks, WA. Numerous nieces and nephews. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Johnnie in December of 2000, brothers Herb, Gurnie, Jack, and John and sisters Silvia Johnson and Drada Long.
Graveside Services will be Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 1:30PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Billy Farrar of Bethel Assembly of God officiating. Military Honors will be provided by George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion. Memorials are suggested to North Puget Oncology or a charity of your choice. Ralph Leon Hanger
Born in Van Buren, MO on Feb. 14, 1936

RALPH LEON HANGER, 68, a resident of Burlington, passed away at his home on Sunday March 21, 2004 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on February 14, 1936 in Van Buren, Missouri, the son of Lendal L. and Sarah A. (Morris) Hanger. In 1944 the family moved to Washington, living in Whatcom County. Ralph attended school in Ferndale and also in Bellingham. As a young man he spent time working in the poultry business and racing cars, he was a participant in the first race held at Hannegan Racetrack in Bellingham in a red #31 sprint car. In 1953 he bought his prized Red Crestline Sunfire Ford convertible, and soon after met Barbara Anne Byers. They were married in Idaho in 1954. During the years that they were married they raised their five children together while living in Burlington.
During these years he had many occupations that all centered around driving the Big Rigs. In 1954 he worked for Glen Myers Logging, then for Goodfellows Inc., where he was part of the building of Interstate 5 near Lake Samish. He later moved on to become owner and operator of Burlington Taxi. For a number of years he drove cement truck for Cascade Ready Mix and then for Associated Sand & Gravel. His last and most enjoyable working years were spent driving the Alcan Hiway every week from Lynden to Anchorage for Lynden Transport Inc. Ralph was lovingly known by his family, friends and trucking buddies as “Rotten Ralph”.
In 1989 he was united in marriage to Linda Mae Ellis, and together they have one daughter, Jessica Lynn. During that time and continuing today, they started a food concession business. While traveling far distances and working long days and late nights with family and friends, they made a successful business that arose from Chuckwagon to Gyros, and also operating Mom’s Café east of Burlington.
He was a man with many interest, from telling stories about his life, to car racing, hunting and fishing or finding that hidden treasure behind a barn on one of his many road trips, he was happy to share his experiences.
He is survived by his wife Linda and their daughter Jessica at the family home in Burlington. His first wife Barbara and their five children, Julia Benson, Marcia Carter and husband Robert, Mark Hanger and wife Barbara, Brent Hanger and wife Lisa, all of Mount Vernon and Linda Kocsis of Burlington. Four sisters, Dorothy Cowell and husband Reo of Burlington, Helen Sager and husband Frank of Bellingham, Barbara Johnstone of Buena Park, CA and Judy Patsky of Bellingham. Eight grandchildren, Christopher Benson, David Kocsis, Markus, Emily, Erin, Kailey, Erik & Kyle Hanger. Plus a large extended family and friends. He was preceded din death by his parents and a sister, Betty Alameda.
The family suggests memorials be made to Skagit Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Kevin Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.

Gordon Roger Herr
Born in Silverton, Oregon on Jun. 6, 1933

Gordon “Gus” Herr passed away Monday, March 22, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, WA at the age of 70 years. He was born June 6, 1933 in Silverton, Oregon the son of August J. and Mary Elizabeth Liston Herr. Gordy grew up in Silverton, Oregon attending school and later served with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict as a member of a Underwater Demolition Team later known as the Seals where he received the Purple Heart. He was married to Dona Knauf the love of his life on March 7, 1960 in Sedro-Woolley and they had just celebrated 44 years of marriage. Gordy worked as a barber before coming to Sedro-Woolley in 1959 where he began working as a LPN at Northern State Hospital for 14 years till its closure. He then began working for the Department of Social and Health Services and later as a Washington State Investigator for the Department until his retirement. Gordy was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a charter member of the North Cross Council # 8672 Knights of Columbus, George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion, Washington State Employees Retirement Union, and was the treasurer of the Washington State Escapees Evergreen Chapter. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, and most of all he liked people and enjoyed telling stories. We shall sorely miss your smiles, laughter, whistling, and warm hugs. In death as in life, Gordy was never alone; his devoted wife Dona never left his side and he spent his last days surrounded by family and many kind and loving friends. As much as we will miss him, we’re also happy that he is reunited with his daughter Dee and others he loved and cherished. You will be forever in our hearts.
Gordy is survived by his wife Dona Herr of the family home in Sedro-Woolley. 2 grandsons Richard Mansbridge Jr of Boise, ID and Gordon Mansbridge of Bemidji, MN. A sister Dolores and her husband Kenneth Blust of Salem, OR. Numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends. He valued all his friendships and counted himself blessed.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:30AM with a Memorial Mass to follow on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 11:00AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father James Dalton as Celebrant. Military Honors will follow by George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion with a luncheon and celebration of life and rememberings to follow at the Parish Hall. Inurnment will be at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Silverton, OR. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Valley College Foundation Nursing Program 2405 E. College Way Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Helen Irene Sutton
Born in Caney Fork, NC on Oct. 15, 1930

Helen Irene Sutton, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Cornerstone Homecare in Sedro-Woolley at the age of 73 years.
She was born October 15, 1930 in Caney Fork, North Carolina, the daughter of Bradley and Dessie Parker Sitton. Helen came to Skagit County from North Carolina in 1947, residing in Hamilton for many years prior to moving to Sedro-Woolley. She worked as a cook in restaurants for many years and later worked as a home health care provider.
She enjoyed movies and picnic's, but most of all her family.
Helen is survived by her 2 sons, Jerry Sutton of Burlington and Randy Sutton and his wife Vivian of Sedro-Woolley. A daughter, Lois Blankenship and he husband Dave of Montana. A brother, Claude Sitton and his wife Alice of Sedro-Woolley. 4 sisters, Jerlene Mayville and her husband Neal of Sedro-Woolley, Carolyn Mayville and her husband Ray of Burlington, Frankie Shennette and her husband Jon of Sedro-Woolley, and Gertie Gilland of North Carolina. Also numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Sutton, 2 brothers, Lester and Ira Sitton and 2 sisters, Bonnie Gilland and Geneva Bryson.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday March 25, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Pastor Ron Schenk of the Lyman Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Judy Helen Packard
Born in Seattle, WA on Apr. 10, 1957

JUDY HELEN PACKARD, 46, a resident of Conway, passed away at her home on Thursday March 18, 2004.
She was born in Seattle, Washington on April 10, 1957, the daughter of Hal and Gertrude Carson Williams. Over the years Judy lived in several communities along the west coast until her family finally settled in Vancouver, WA, where she graduated from Columbia River High School. She then graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1979 with a Batchelor's Degree in Geology. She worked for many years in the development of, and the sale of specialized oils and greases, primarily those used by NASA and the aerospace industry for equipment requiring special applications.
She was united in marriage to Ken Packard at Union, Washington on February 9, 1985 and they made their home in Seattle until moving to Conway in 1995.
Judy enjoyed many outdoor activities; cross country skiing, hiking, running, boating and camping, but her greatest enjoyment was scuba diving.
She is survived by husband Ken, and son Kenny Packard, at the family home in Conway. A brother, Tom Williams of Seattle, a sister, Debbie Gunning of Sierra Vista, AZ, an uncle, Ed Carson of Port McNeil, British Columbia and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Hal Williams.
The family suggests memorials be made to Cancer Care Center of Skagit Valley Hospital of Skagit Valley Hospital, 1415 E. Kincad St., Mount Vernon, WA 98274 or Hospice of Skagit County, 2031-A Hospital Dr., Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Fir Conway Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Martin Taylor officiating. Cremation arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Bruce Vernon Munro
Born in Mount Vernon, WA on Dec. 18, 1920
Departed on Mar. 19, 2004 and resided in Sedro-Woolley, WA.

BRUCE VERNON MUNRO, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on March 19, 2004 at United General Hospital at the age of 83 years.
He was born on December 8, 1920 near Mount Vernon, WA at his home at Big Rock, the fourth of six children born to Edward & Leatha Moore Munro.
Bruce graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1939. In November of 1939 he joined the National Guard and was mobilized into the U.S. Army in 1940. He spent his Army tour at Fort Seward, Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1945.
In 1946 he began his career in brick and stone masonry. Bruce was well known throughout the area for his artistic talent. Though he had officially retired, he continued laying brick until he was 80 years young. He was united in marriage to Patricia Weller in Bellingham in 1968.
He was an avid sportsman and bowling, basketball, baseball, boxing and roller skating were among his favorites.
Bruce was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1971, where he remained active until his death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Patricia, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His children, Bruce Munro, Jr. and wife Karen of Snohomish, WA, Susie Sewell and husband Wayne of Aliso Viejo, CA, Marla Heath and husband Bill of Bellingham, WA, Deanna Rabieh of West Columbia, SC, Janet Anderson and husband Layne of Everson, WA, Marc Medeiros and wife Mickey of Wildomar, CA, Julie Dawson and husband Kevin of Mount Vernon, WA, Mike Beldin of Anacortes, WA, Jim Beldin of Germantown, TN and Dan Beldin of Sedro-Woolley, WA. 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 3 sisters, Atlantis Hickey of Riverside, CA, Erma Flaiban of El Cajon, CA and Kathleen Erickson of Stayton, OR and 13 nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Bellingham SDA Church's missionary fund; P.O. Box 208, Bellingham, WA 98227 or Pulmonary Fibrosis Research in care of the American Lung Assoc., 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday March 23, 2004 at 3:00 PM at the North Cascade Seventh Day Adventist Church, 800 Peacock Lane, Burlington, WA.
Cremation arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Eleanor Ronning Clough
Born in Clear Lake, WA on Dec. 5, 1914

Our Grandma, Eleanor Ronning Clough, 89, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2004 in Yakima, Washington. Grandma was born December 5, 1914 in Clear Lake, WA, to Elizabeth and Paul Ronning. Eleanor was raised in Clear Lake and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School. She married “Poppa”, Conrad Wesley Clough on April 16, 1937 in the living room of the Ronning home on Buchanan Hill in Clear Lake.
During their life together they lived in many places, including Hood Canal, WA, Alaska and Guam. She was finally able to return to her home in Clear Lake when they retired in the 1970’s.
Among her fondest memories were the years at Hood Canal and the time spent on Guam. She especially appreciated the birthday parties and holidays when all the family was together. Grandma loved music, baking and making her home a warm place for friends and family.
Mrs. Clough is survived by her two sons, Russell Clough and his wife Shirley, and Albert Clough. Her grandchildren, Connie and Jun Naotsuka, Sheri and Shon McIntyre, Mike Clough, and Wesley and Alexis Clough; her great-grandchildren, Heather, Meggie, Kalynn, Claire, Carolyn, Seiji, Takaji, and Samuel and by her sister, Margret Eidsness. Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Her husband Conrad, her daughter Margie Clough, and brother Albert Ronning preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Clear Lake Community Covenant Church. Local arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

LaVonne Prentice
Born in Havelock, Iowa on Jan. 9, 1924

LaVonne “Bonnie” Prentice, 80, a resident of Sedro-Woolley went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 7, 2003 at her home with her family at her side. She was born on January 9, 1924 in Havelock, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Mamie Albaugh Higbee. Bonnie has been a resident of Sedro-Woolley since 1949 coming here from Seattle. She worked as a cook a various restaurants for many years and she enjoyed reading, her family, and she attended the Big Lake Church of the Nazarine. Bonnie is survived by her son Larry and his wife Sherlinde Prentice of Sedro-Woolley and two daughters Diane McGowan of Sedro-Woolley and Kathy and her husband Rolan Raymond of Birdsview. 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters Frances Mishler and Larry Higbee both of Winthrop, WA, Eugene Higbee of Gold Bar, WA, and Gayle Boyd of Lacey, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands George Latimer and Stanley Prentice, her parents, her daughter and son in law Karen and Rick Manion a great great granddaughter Sierra Manion, and three brothers Norman, Lowell, and Royal.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Keith Luna of the New Life Lutheran Church of Mount Vernon officiating. Bonnie will be deeply missed by all of us that loved her so. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice of Sedro-Woolley. Arrangements and cremation under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Karen Eva Archer
Born in Burlington, WA on Oct. 26, 1938
Departed on Mar. 16, 2004 and resided in Sedro-Woolley, WA.

KAREN E. GUNDERSEN ARCHER, 65, a lifelong Skagit County resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at the Kindred Hospital in Seattle.
She was born on October 26, 1938 in Burlington, WA, the daughter of Harry & Arvilla Marchant Gundersen. She was also raised and attended school in Burlington.
On June 3, 1977 she was united in marriage to Rodney "Gene" Archer in Virginia City, Nevada and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She enjoyed all things having to do with the outdoors; camping, fishing, gardening. She enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden, but mostly being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Rodney "Gene" Archer at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. Her son, Jim Rasar and his wife Fryth, of Blaine, WA. Her daughters, Jennifer Mapes of Sedro-Woolley and Missy Mapes Schmidt, and her husband Kerry of Stanwood, WA. 10 grandchildren, Joe, David, Stuart and Sadie Rasar, Emily and Amanda Tonheim, Daniel Mapes Hoffecker, Dusty Ceradsky, Kurt Archer and Melissa Heller, also numerous other family members and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Harry & Arvilla Gundersen, and a daughter, Brigitte Ceradsky. The family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.
A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at the Allen-Blanchard United Methodist Church, 16775 Allen West Road, Bow. Dr. Wayne Martin officiating.
Cremation and services under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
