Joseph J. Martell
Joseph J. Martell, 33, was born April 19, 1963 in Spokane and died as a result of an accident on Nov. 25, 1996 in Tacoma. Joe was a great mechanic and an E.P.A. engineer and had lived in Auburn and Tacoma most of his life. He enjoyed camping and fishing, especially with his sons, Joey and Davy. He will be greatly missed but we hope he will be with God in a much kinder and more loving place. Survivors include his sons, Joey and Davy; parents, Leo and Loralene; brothers, Leo S., L. Mark and Brian Keith; sisters, Renee (Cameron) Pence, Melodie (Gary) Gulbranson; special friend, Cindy; wife, Roseanne; grandmother, Mrs. Lawrence Schucker (Cecilia); numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives. We love you always. Viewing Sat., 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with memorial services following at 1 p.m. in the Oakwood Hill Chapel. 473-2900.

Thomas Carstens
Thomas Carstens, born in Tacoma, April 14, 1913, passed away Nov. 24, 1996. He attended St. Patrick's Grade School, Lakeside (Seattle), Bellarmine, Georgetown Prep and UPS. After the sale of Carstens Packing Company to Hygrade, he became an automobile dealer for 40 years. At the time of his death he was President of Carstens Company and Imported Motor Cars. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and boater, and piloted his own plane. As a young man, he was twice Pacific Coast Outboard Champion and he was also interested in midget and sports car racing, being the first Regional Executive of the Northwest Region of SCCA. In his late 70's he again drove in vintage car races at Laguna Seca, CA. He had served on the Board of Bellarmine Prep. His memberships included life member of BPOE 174, OX5 Pioneers, AOPA, Golden Wheels, SCCA, Tacoma Yacht Club and the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. He attended St. John Bosco Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carroll Diane (Didi) Carstens, brother Philip J. Carstens and sister Doris Carstens McKendry. Surviving are his wife, Sadie of the home; granddaughter Dana Durant, Mt. Shasta, CA; grandson, Jody (Victoria) Durant and great-granddaughter, Emily Anne of Steilacoom, and granddaughter Nicole Durant of Seattle. Also surviving are his son-in-law, Joseph R. Durant; sister-in-law, Mrs. Philip J. Carstens, Sr., Spokane; and a number of nieces and nephews. The Vigil Service will be recited (TODAY) Friday, Nov. 29, at the Mt. View Garden Chapel, at 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1123 No. J Street, Tacoma. Donations may be made to Bellarmine Preparatory School, St. Joseph Hospital Renal Center, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Ronald M. Fletcher
Mary E. Fletcher
Ronald M. Fletcher, 54, and Mary E. Fletcher, 57, died Nov. 25, 1996 as a result of an accidental house fire. They were married March 17, 1979 in Tacoma. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding, boating, taking care of their lawn and gardening. Mary also enjoyed crossword puzzles and hand-held pocket games. She was also a bartender at Alfred's Cafe for over 20 years. Ronald was also a member of the N.R.A. and was a Warehouse Manager for Drake Moving and Storage Company. They are survived by Ronald's children, Susan Lee, Bremerton, Todd Fletcher, Belfair; Ronald's sister, Maureen Fletcher, Eatonville; Ronald's nephew, Brandon Hinton, Tacoma; Mary's children, Walter King, Jackie King, Vickie Brown, all of Tacoma, Michelle Wilson, Eatonville, Julie King, Tacoma; Mary's brothers, Charlie (Sally) White, Eatonville, Jim (Joyce) White, San Leandro, CA; Mary's sisters, Bernadine (Jim) Campbell, Carson City, NV, Madonna (Jesse) Mederios, San Leandro, CA; 12 grandchildren and many wonderful friends and co-workers. Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Leo White. Funeral services Mon., 12 Noon at the Valley Chapel of Mt. View Memorial Park with burial to follow. Visitation Sun., 2-5 p.m. at Dryer Mortuary. A reception will follow the funeral at Brookdale Inn, 13021 Pacific Ave. S. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Pierce Fire and Rescue. Arrangements by Dryer Mortuary.

Lowry Wyatt
Lowry Wyatt, age 78, born in Woodland, CA and passed away November 26, 1996 in Tacoma. A 1940 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Lowry began his distinguished career with the Gerber Products Company. The Wyatt family moved to Tacoma in 1957 when Lowry joined the Weyerhaeuser Co. as director of personnel. He was elected corporate vice president in 1960. Lowry was named senior vice president in 1971, the title he held until retiring in 1979. A Lifetime Trustee of the Charles Wright Academy and Chairman of the University of Puget Sound, Lowry has been honored for his commitment to eduction with the dedication of the Lowry Wyatt Middle School at Charles Wright and the conferring of an honorary doctorate of Public Service from U.P.S. A board member of the Franciscan Foundation, Lowry was the recipient of the 1996 St. Francis Humanitarian Award. His civic and community commitment in the Northwest have been substantial. Lowry's commitments to the forest products industry, business and the community include the following: Past President and Chairman of the National Forest Products Association; Chairmanof Board St. Joseph's Hospital; Chairman of Board Children's Home Society of Washington; member of the Board of Univar Corp.; Agri Northwest, Penwest Ltd.; VWR, Inc.; Snavely Forest Products; Momentum Distributions, UI Group Inc.; and U & I Inc.; Trustee of Independent College Assoc. of Washington; Greater Lakes Mental Health Foundation; Washington State Nature Conservancy; President, Weyerhaeuser Corp. Foundation. Lowry was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Winifred P. Wyatt. He is survived by his wife Lenore Wyatt and her daughter Amy Unger; brother Mark Wyatt and his wife Ann; five children, daughter Kathy and Rory Laughery of Seattle and their children Todd, Tyler, Scott and Mark; daughter Cary and David McRae of Seattle, and their children Sydney and Shannon; son Mark and Sheila Wyatt of Seattle and their children Sarah and Eva; son Scott and Jenny Wyatt of Seattle and their children Megan, Molly, Andy and Jay; son Todd and Nancy Wyatt of Tacoma, and their children, Kelly, Tommy and Russell. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the Lowry Wyatt Memorial Fund at The Charles Wright Academy or the Lowry Wyatt Memorial Fund at the University of Puget Sound. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 7, 1996, 2pm in the U.P.S. Concert Hall. Arrangements by Mt. View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Leslianne Shedd
Leslianne Shedd, 28, a Foreign Service Officer assigned to the U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa Ethiopia, died November 23, 1996. Graduate of Puyallup High School in 1986, graduated from the University of Washington Jackson School of International Studies in 1990. Beloved daughter and sister. Memorial services will be 3pm, Monday, December 2, at Mountain View Lutheran Church (Edgewood). In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Leslianne Shedd Scholarship Fund, University of Washington Foundation, PO Box 353765, Seattle, WA 98195.

Margaret H. Gilmore

Myrtle Meyer
Myrtle Meyer was born October 23, 1916, in Chase, B.C. and went to be with the Lord, November 28, 1996 in Tacoma. She was a very compassionate, giving and loving woman in all aspects of her life including her work as an LPN. She was a member of Bethany Open Bible Church. Myrtle was preceded in death by her first husband, Woodrow D. Andrus. She is survived by her husband Carl B. Meyer; daughters, Jeannette (Billy) Reynolds and Carol (Paul) Kearney; sons Harold (Jewell) Meyer, Ken (Marilee) Andrus, Gerald (Gail) Meyer, James Meyer and Duane (Joyce) Meyer; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 14 foster great-grandchildren; brother, David Mansfield of Olympia; sisters Cathern Fenno of El Paso, TX, Ethel Frissell and Hazel Edmonson both of Cashmere; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Viewing will be Friday, November 29, 1996, 2pm-9pm, Saturday - Monday, 8am-9pm. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 1996, 1pm at Bethany Open Bible Church, 8415 Waller Rd E., Tacoma. Orville D. Renzema
Retired TSgt Orville D. Renzema, 65, died Tues., November 26, 1996, at his home in Tacoma, WA. After retirement he drove 18-wheelers for several companies including Soils, Inc. in Puyallup for many years. Survived by his four children Rebecca Martin, Sandra Robinson, Rhonda Bayes and Richard Renzema; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters Grace Reedy, Frances Van Zyle and Doris Laver; his brother Raymond Renzema and their families. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Institute of Cancer Research or your favorite charity. Memorial service will be held at Mountain View Garden Chapel, Mon., December 2, 1996 at 3pm. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Ruby I. Roth
Ruby Idelle Roth, 76, a resident of Puyallup, passed away in Puyallup on Nov. 26, 1996. Ruby was born in Glenrock, WY to Mary and James Wells on Nov. 20, 1920. She is survived by daughters, Ruby I. Terry, Tacoma, Bonnie and husband, Jerry Nettnin, Milton; sons, David A. Porter, Puyallup, John R. and wife, Donna Porter, Seattle; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian Wells, Graham. Memorial services Mon., Dec. 2, 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Puyallup. Arrangements by Hill Funeral Home. 841-HILL.

Esther L. Short
Esther L. Short was born September 12, 1923 in Davenport, North Dakota and passed away November 27, 1996 in Tacoma. Esther retired from her position at Tacoma General Hospital in 1979. She volunteered at the YMCA Adopted Aquatics and was a member and volunteer at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Survivors include sisters Althea Cole of Petersburg, VA and Constance Sautebin of Bethel, AK; brother-in-law, Allen B. Johnson of Tacoma; the Aaserud family of Edgewood, WA; ten nieces and nephews and several step-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Monday, Dec. 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Mark's Lutheran Church by the Narrows, 6730 North 17th Street. If wished, memorial gifts may bemade to St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Florence G. Gray
Jun. 18, 1901 - Nov. 29, 1996
Florence G. Gray made the long awaited journey "Home" for a joyous reunion with family and friends. Mrs. Gray's eighteen year marriage to prominent surgeon, Dr. Clyde E. Gray, was a very special time in her life and she continued to show her love and devotion to him for 27 years following his death. She was a generous and charitable woman with a strong desire to contribute something useful to society. As an active member of the community she was involved in numerous guilds, associations and a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church for 50 years. She will be truly missed. She is survived by grand-nieces Shawn and Gina and grandnephew Rhett. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996 at 2pm in the Evergreen Chapel located at New Tacoma Cemetery.
