Willard F. (Red) MacKenzie
Willard F. (Red) MacKenzie, age 82, entered into rest January 10, 1998 in Spokane. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William and Susan Connolly of Tacoma, WA; daughter Cheryl Gwinn and her husband, Dr. Douglas R. Gwinn, of Spokane, WA; sisters Janet Bates and Joyce Fore, both of Raymond, WA; granddaughters Emily and MacKenzie Gwinn of Spokane, WA. Preceded in death by his wife, Emily, in 1972. Mr. MacKenzie was born August 22, 1915 in Dallas, OR, one of nine children born to Rev. Donald and Myrtle MacKenzie. The MacKenzie family later moved to Tacoma, WA. Willard was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Tacoma, class of 1934. Mr. MacKenzie was a Staff Sargent in the Army during WWII. He owned and operated the Snows Texaco Station in Sumner, WA, until going to work for the Postal Service in 1946. Mr. MacKenzie married Emily Korjan Connolly January 3, 1948 in Tacoma. He retired in 1976 after 30 years as a mail carrier in Tacoma. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. MacKenzie's memory to Riverview Care Center, Eden Alternative Fund, 1841 E. Upriver Dr., Spokane, WA 99207. Graveside service to be held at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma, WA. Cheney Funeral Chapel, Cheney, WA, in charge of cremation.

Agnes B. Reister, 71, of Tacoma, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 1998. Services were held 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 16, in the Mountain View Garden Chapel.

Candace Shotwell
Candace Shotwell passed away January 15, 1998, in Gig Harbor, after a brief struggle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jonathan Shotwell of Port Angeles; their son, Jon and his wife, Tanya and granddaughter Samantha, of Puyallup; a brother, Terry Sutton of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Kathy Sutton of San Francisco. Candace was owner and president of 2 Port Angeles companies: Eclipse C Corp. (treatment of petroleum contaminated soil) and Fields Shotwell Corp. (rock crushing). A Memorial Service is planned for family and close friends on Monday, January 19, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in the Evergreen Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery. Arrangements by Tacoma Funeral Home and Cemeteries, 564-1311.

Cordon R. Himmelberger
Cordon Robert Himmelberger was born in Frankfurt, Germany on November 1, 1955 and died January 15, 1998. He graduated from Washington High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Himmelberger is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Himmelberger of Tacoma; two children, Heather Johnson of Port Orchard and Brandon Himmelberger of Bothell; and a brother, Carl Himmelberger of Port Angeles. Memorial services TODAY, 4:00 p.m., at Dryer Mortuary.

George N. Fallis
George N. Fallis, 75, passed away Jan. 9, 1998, in Mesa, AZ. His early education was in Cashmere, WA, and Kellogg, ID. His college education included Lewiston Normal in Idaho, Western Washington University, Washington State University and Columbia University, New York City. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Coast Guard. He was a teacher, principal and administrator with Tacoma Public Schools for 28 years. He leaves his wife, Delores, son, Tom, and several nephews. Services will be held Jan. 21, 3:00 pm in the Skyline Christian Church in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes or American Heart Associations.

Gladyce L. Mailand
Gladyce Lillian Mailand, age 86, went to be with her heavenly Father, January 15, 1998. Born in Pelican Rapids, Minn., she lived in Tacoma for 66 years. Gladyce taught for more than 30 years, retiring in 1973 from Franklin Pierce School District. She was a member of Spanaway Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Whitmore of Puyallup and Mirajane Johnson of Reno, and two granddaughters, Lisa and Kristin Whitmore. She is grieved by her family and friends. Memorial services Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, 4:00 pm at SpanawayLutheran Church. Visitation Sunday 1-3pm at Dryer Mortuary. Graveside services Monday, 10:00 am at Mt. View Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to her church. Arrangements by Dryer Mortuary.

Gordon "Rocky" Rockwell
Gordon, age 64, passed away on January 15, 1998 in Tacoma. He worked for over 30 years in real estate in Pierce County. He was instrumental in increases membership in the Building Industry Association of Washington. He was a long time member of the BPO Elks. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He was a very active member of the MG Car Club and an avid golfer. He is survived by children Diane, James and Lisa Rockwell; brothers Richard Rockwell, James Rockwell and Michael Roa. A memorial gathering will be held at the Parkland Lutheran Church, 12309 Pacific Ave. S. (at 123rd), Tacoma, on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Gordon Rockwell Scholarship Fund, c/o MBA of Pierce County, 3925 S. Orchard, Tacoma, 98466.

Ida Elizabeth Hansen Welch
Ida Elizabeth Hansen Welch, born April 18, 1911 in Bremerton, WA, died Jan. 13, 1998 in Bremerton. At 5 years old her mother died, leaving her and 3 brothers and 1 sister motherless. Her father moved the family to Tacoma, WA. There she grew up and married James T. Welch Sr. They raised 2 boys. When her husband retired, she and her husband moved to Bremerton. There she was member of the First Baptist Church of Bremerton for 27 years. She was a deaconist in her church. She was always at church helping out in any capacity she could. She loved her church family. She was a worker in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She helped care for many people with Alzheimers. She leaves 2 sons, Roy G. Welch and wife Barbara, James T. Welch Jr. and wife Joanne; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Jan. 17, 1998 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Bremerton.

She is survived by sons, Cody Black Jr., Yelm, Charlie Black, Federal Way, Richard and John Black, Tacoma; daughters, Isabel Johnson, CA, Kathleen Black, Tacoma, Janet Olin, Yelm, and Glenda Guilmet, Tacoma; several brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
