Mildred N. (Baydo) Shurtleff "Beloved Mother" "Beloved Grandmother" Millie was born May 24, 1911. She spent her young years growing up on a farm in Buckley, WA. She went home to Jesus on January 15, 1998. Millie worked as a waitress in the early years and went on to spend many years working in the retail sales business. Throughout the years she remained a faithful servant to our Lord and loved her family with all her heart. She was always there for us with words of encouragement, comfort, or sometimes just a hug when we needed one. On sunny days you could always find "Grandma" working outdoors in her garden. It was an activity that brought her much enjoyment. Millie is survived by a daughter, Darlene "Dede" Christianson; 7 grandchildren: Darla, Angelique, Jason, Noelle, Serenity, Devin and Cheyenne; 4 great grandchildren: Tyler, Michael, Sara and Allissa. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998 at 11:00 am at the 1002 South Yakima Avenue Chapel. Viewing will be Monday, Jan. 19, from 4pm-8:30pm. Entombment at Tacoma Mausoleum. Arrangements by Gaffney, Cassedy-Allen and Buckley-King.

Ruby Elizabeth Raybell
Ruby Elizabeth Raybell, age 86, a long time Tacoma resident, passed away on Friday, January 16, 1998 in Lakewood. Born in Raymond, WA, she was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Raybell, in 1985. Ruby was a lifetime member of the Tacoma area Camp Fire Council, where she served as president. She is survived by son Jack Raybell of White City, OR; daughters, Kay Cammel of Tacoma, Glenna Raybell O.S.B. of Bismarck, ND, and Janice Vocke of Shelton; brother Delbert Nupp, and sisters Eileen White and Ruth Dixon, all of Raymond, WA. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Shawn Cammel, Brian Cammel, Kristin Helland, Steven Vocke, Jeremiah Vocke, Mark Vocke; 4 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army. At her request no services will be held. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Joseph Henry Tucker SFC, USA, Ret. CPL, Port of Seattle Police Dept., Ret
t. Joseph Henry Tucker, 66, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday Jan. 13, 1998, at his Tacoma home with his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 22, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan. Following a distinguished military career, during which he earned the Silver and Bronze Stars, Soldier's Medal, Viet Nam Service and Commendation Medals, Korean Service Medal, and numerous other decorations, Joseph retired and settled in Tacoma. He then began working for the Port of Seattle Police Dept. and retired after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Akiyo, and their children, Yukimi Brown, Ronald Tucker, Akemi Boyd, and Harumi Tolbert; brothers Edgar Tucker, Mack Tucker, and Theodore Tucker; sisters Eleanor Evans and Rosalie Hailey. He is also mourned by a host of relatives and close friends. Memorial services will be held Tuesday the 20th at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. View Valley Chapel. A reception will follow at the Golden Eagle Social Club. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Albert K. Kelso
Albert K. Kelso, born September 26, 1907 in Silverton, CO, died January 13, 1998 in Tacoma. A former resident of the Coulee Dam area. Albert is survived by his wife, Minnetta; children, Sherrol Kelso, Tacoma, Donald Kelso, Livingston, TX; brothers, Maurice, Tacoma, Gerald, Orange, CA; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, January 21, 1998, 11:00 am, Chambers Creek Chapel. Entombment New Tacoma Mausoleum. Arrangements by Gaffney, Cassedy-Allen and Buckley-King.

Anna Alice Schuldt
Anna "Alice" Schuldt, 91, died January 12, 1998 in Tacoma, WA. She was born November 30, 1906 to Joseph and Emma Smatlan in Schuyler, NE. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1924, where she played on the girls championship basketball team. Alice went on to Rockford (IL) Business College. She married Martin J. Schuldt on June 8, 1935. In 1936 they left Schuyler and moved to Onalaska, WA, and then to Coeur d'Alene, ID, in 1942. They later returned to Washington and, after raising 2 sons, retired to Hayden Lake, ID. After 57 years together, Martin died on November 17, 1992. She is survived by sons David A. Schuldt of Lakewood, WA, and William J. Schuldt (Sandra) of Puyallup, WA; sister Eleanor Meyer of New Glarus, WI; and grandchildren Matthew (Tricia), Christopher (Brooke), Chad, Heidi and Carrie. She was preceded in death by brothers Emerson and Joseph, and sister Erma. Memorial services are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, 1998 at 11 a.m. at POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 320 W. Pioneer Ave., Puyallup.

Anna Elizabeth Williams
Anna Elizabeth Williams, 73, was born on October 20, 1924 in Munich, Germany, and passed away on January 10, 1998 in Lakewood, WA. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany. Most of her life was dedicated to taking care of her family and spending time with her closest friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, December 20, 1988. Survivors are two sons, Donald Williams of Indio, CA and Dennis Williams of Hood River, OR. Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, January 19, 1998, Mt. View Garden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Tacoma, 750 Market Street, Tacoma, 98402. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Edna Louise Andrews
Edna Louise Andrews passed away January 9, 1998 in Tacoma, WA. She was born in Iowa Friday, April 13, 1923. In 1965 she moved to Washington state and was a state employee at the State Library, Western State Hospital, and Camp Murray National Guard Hqtrs. until retirement in 1982. She was also employed part time at the Tacoma Mall Payless store. She was a member of the WA State Employees Association. She authored the initiative granting state employees Unemployment Compensation. She appreciated the kind and diligent care of her Doctors: Lauren Colman, John Gallucci, Ralph Johnson and Stuart Farber. The family would also like to thank the T.G. Hospital and the Associated Health Services Hospice staff. She believed the love and prayers of family and friends were responsible for God granting her over 7 years to enjoy life while battling cancer. She is survived by six children: Bonnie Baker of Maple Valley, WA, Connie of Kihei, HI, James of Tukwila, WA, Janet Scamahorn of Scappoose, OR, Jennie of San Mateo, CA, Jill of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren Arthur Andrews of Aberdeen, WA, Lauren Scamahorn of Vancouver, WA. Memorial Services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, Newberg, OR, Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Peru, IA, in lieu of flowers. Internment will be at the Valley View Memorial Park, Newberg, OR. Cremation arrangements are being made by Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel.

Florence T. Solheim
Florence T. Solheim, born April 28, 1922 in Comertown, MT, to William and Theresa Corcoran. She graduated from Comertown High School and married Oscar Solheim in 1940. They lived on the farm in Comertown, later moving to Plenty Wood, MT. In 1952 they moved to Tacoma and raised their family in the Fern Hill area. She loved and gave with a big heart to all her family and friends, expecting nothing in return. She was preceded in death by husband Oscar, son Tommy, daughter Janice, sisters Mary, Clara and Margaret, and brothers Mike and Bill. Survivors: son Pat; daughters Diana, Rosalyn, Eloise and Nancy; sisters Alyce and Rosie; brother Paul; grandsons Wes, Mike, Rick, Dion, Javier, Quincy, Ben, Jason; granddaughters Araina, Anita, Stacy, Patricia and Corey; great grandchildren Daniel, Nicholas A., Nicholas H., Nicholas B., Andrew, Cecelia, Mark, Brenda, Jessica, Skyler, Cody, Ryhon, Brittany, Vicky and Charlette; also special friend Hope Roland. She is gone, but not forgotten. Services Monday, Jan. 19, 2:00 PM at Fir Lane Chapel, with interment in Fir Lane Memorial Park.

Helen Ann (Schlaupitz) Rhyner, born in Fox Island, WA to Margaret and Ben Schlaupitz on July 9, 1926, passed away in Puyallup on January 14, 1998. Rosary will be at Hill Funeral Home Chapel tonight at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be Sat., Jan. 17 at 1:30 PM, All Saints Catholic Church, Puyallup. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma. Joan A. (Fox) Wright beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away Monday, January 12, 1998. She was born in Bedford, Iowa, on May 9, 1934. She moved to Tacoma, Washington, in the late 1940's. Joan leaves behind a host of family and friends, including three daughters and one son: Kimberlee Neal, Teresa Olsen, Patricia Bonney and Dale Olsen; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Kathleen R. (Forrest) Bishop, 55, a wonderful mother, daughter, sister and most of all...friend-passed away Thursday Jan. 1, 1998. She was raised in Tacoma and resided in Paris for the past sixteen years. She leaves behind a daughter Caitlin and her husband Aaron Stolpman. Her mother Helen Forrest and brothers Bill and Bob Jowett. To celebrate her life, please join us at the Titlow Beach Lodge at 8425 6th Ave., Tacoma, at 1 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 17, 1998.
