Timothy James Hobbs
Timothy James Hobbs was born June 2, 1952 in San Antonio, TX. He died at his home in Shoreline, WA, January 12, 1998. He is survived by his parents, Beth and Russ Hobbs, of Lakewood, WA; brother Michael and wife Anita of Cheyenne, WY; sister Christine Gill and husband Jim of Rawlins, WY, and sister Sally Kloempken and husband J.R. of Redmond, WA. Also surviving are 13 cousins; 2 aunts and an uncle living in the Northwest and CA; niece Misty in Nebraska; nephews, Troy of Montana and Russell of Massachusetts; and former wife and friend, Karen, of Seattle. He will be missed by all who know him. He was formerly employed by Hillhaven Health Care in Tacoma, AT&T and US West Communications in Seattle, and previously owned and operated the Coupeville Harbour Store and Deli on Whidbey Island. Services will be held in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Tacoma, at 3 p.m. Mon., Jan. 19.

Agnes McDowell
Agnes McDowell passed away Jan. 10, 1998. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia McDowell, Auburn, and two sisters, Margaret Smith and Alice Pilcher, both of Puyallup. At her request there will be no services held. Interment at Woodbine Cemetery. Arrangements by Hill Funeral Home, Puyallup.

Anita Heidi Nishimura
Anita Heidi Nishimura, 40, passed away Jan. 12, 1998, in Lakewood. She is survived by her husband, Derrick Nishimura; sons, Andy and Rob; mother Helga Bullock. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16, 1998 at 2:30 pm in the Chambers Creek Chapel located on the grounds of New Tacoma Cemetery. B.G. (Bob) Carroll
B.G. (Bob) Carroll, born in Hutchinson, Kansas, July 25, 1929, died Jan. 10, 1998, in Tacoma, WA, after a nearly 3-year battle with leukemia and pancreatic cancers. Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years. Following his active duty he ranched and raised horses, settling in the Spokane area in the mid-50's, moving to Tacoma in 1968. He is an alumnus of Eastern Washington University, majored in business administration. His career centered in the construction industry, from the sales and leasing of light and heavy equipment to hands-on building of homes, power lines, commercial buildings. For 10 years he was a home improvements department manager at Fred Meyer in Tacoma. He retired as manager of Fence Specialists Company. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Fern Hill Lodge #80, Tacoma Scottish Rite, Afifi Shrine Temple, was past commodore of the Afifi Shrine Yacht Club, and a member of the Tacoma Yacht Club. Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis Grahn Carroll; daughters, Patricia Carroll of Walla Walla, and Kelli Carroll of Seattle; sons, James Carroll of Sandy, OR, and Scott Carroll of Tinker AFB, OK; 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren: David Carlson, Ft. Huachuca, AZ, Deborah Carlson Andre, Kelseyville, CA, Pamela Carlson Olsen, Snohomish, Patrice Carlson, Enumclaw; 7 granddaughters. Also surviving: his brother, Leonard Carroll, of Hutchinson, KS; sisters, Hazel Ralph, Spokane, and Faye Collins, Burlington, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in the Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Afifi Temple, 815 So. Vassault, Tacoma, WA 98465; or First Lutheran Church, 524 South I St., Tacoma, WA 98405. Arrangements by Tacoma Funeral Home and Cemeteries, 564-1311.

Berta Marie Tribby
Born Oil City, PA. 6-19-10. Died 1-12-98 after a short illness. Berta lived formerly in Coraopolis, PA. and Boise, ID. She was a registered nurse. A graduate of Sewickley Valley Hospital in Sewickley, PA. She was employed by Standard Steel Spring during WWII; practiced private duty nursing; was a school nurse in Coraopolis School District, Coraopolis, PA. in the early 50's. Her later professional career cheered the hearts of many at Dixmont State Psych. Hospital in PA. Retiring as Director of Nursing in 1971 she went on to be manager of Sharon Park Manor in Moon Twp., PA. for many years. Upon the death of her husband John F. Tribby in 1985, she resided in Pymatuning, PA., Boise, ID. and Gig Harbor, WA. Her many accomplishments included organizing the AARP in Moon Township, PA., Volunteer Services in St. Luke's Hospital, Boise, ID. and avid involvement in the Senior Center of Boise. Her creative dramatizations will forever bring a smile to those who remember. She is sadly missed by her family: Nancy and Bernie Downs of Sarasota, FL., Peg and Bob Bochan of Gig Harbor, WA. Katie Tribby (wife of deceased son John W. Tribby) of Boise, ID. Grandchildren Joe and Rhonda Downs and 3 children, Robin and Ed Fendick and 2 daughters, Doug and Helene Bochan and daughter, Paul Bochan, Jesse Tribby and Faith Tribby. Her faithful "Companion" since Christmas 1965 has been Glena-Willie, her concrete goose. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Catholic Church in Tacoma, WA. Thurs. 1/15/98, 10:30 and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Coraopolis, PA. on Jan. 29th.

Charles L. Williams

Charles L. Williams, Nez Perce Indian, World War II Veteran, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa passed away at Vencor Hospital in Seattle. Dad was born around June 29, 1911 in a teepee near Kamiah, Idaho. He did not learn English until he was sent to school. He later graduated from Lapwai High. Dad served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He became a Tech 3 in the 289th Signal Core, 4th Engine, Special Brigade. His foreign service area was New Guinea and Luzon; medals awarded were: Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal; Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Bronze Service Arrowhead, American Theater Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and, Victory Medal, World War II. Dad was preceded in death by his second ex-wife and dear friend Jane S. Williams; two daughters, Beverly Williams and Carla J. Williams Rios Neilson and a son, Spencer J. Williams. He is survived by his daughter Leota Williams and grandson Quin W. Williams as well as three other grandsons and two granddaughters; six great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Private family services held by Neptune Funeral Home. "Thank you daddy, for everything"

Florine (Harper) Jefferson
Born in Atlanta, GA. 5 Oct. 1923 to Jerry and Anna Harper, and died in Tacoma, WA. 10 Jan. 1998. Survived by her son, Osborne Smith Jr., granddaughter Tiffany Smith, Wichita, KS., brother McDale (Buddy) Thompson, Mason City, IA. as well as niece, J. Renee (Harper) LeFlore and nephew Leon D. Harper, of Tacoma, WA. with an extended family of over 40 nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. Memorial service will be held Sat., 17 Jan., 1998, 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Community Baptist Church, 1517 112th St. So., Tacoma, WA. Those wishing to pay their respects are invited by the family to attend.

Francis W. (Frank) Hacker

After a long battle with A.L.S., Frank has gone to be with his maker. An early retirement from Boeing gave him more time to do the things he loved. Among them, working on his properties all over his native Washington. He also took time to drive the church bus and van for First Presbyterian Church where he was an active member. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Dodi; 3 daughters, Darlene (Paul) Edwards of CA, Lynn Knauf of Tacoma and Lee Carlson of Tacoma; as well as, 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. A public memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 at 12:00 in the South Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Franciscan Hospice.

Gerda D. Soloman
Gerda D. Soloman, born Jan. 16, 1921, in Germany, passed away Jan. 11, 1998, in Tacoma. She attended school in Germany and relocated to Tacoma in the mid 1950's. Gerda was married to Cova Soloman for over 35 years and traveled with him on his tour of duty while he was in the Army. She worked as a civil service key punch operator for Ft. Lewis for many years. Cova, her husband, preceded her in death. Survivors include her late husband's relatives in California and Oklahoma, her beloved pet dog, Minnie, and lots of dear friends. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, Mt. View Garden Chapel. Inurnment Mt. View Memorial Park. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Gloria A. Golden, 70, passed away suddenly Jan. 9, 1998. Gloria was born in Tacoma and lived here all of her life. She was a retired real estate agent. Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Donald J. Golden; daughter Cynthia Kristin Woodward and husband Ken; stepson Dean Golden; brothers Harry I. and Sverre (Marlow) Swanson; grandchildren, Jason G. Warner and wife Lisa, Ryan J. Warner and wife Denielle; great grandchildren, Joel and Madyson Warner. Gloria (GG) touched all our hearts at different times of her life. She has left footprints with all the people she reached through her kindness and generosity. MAM, I love you with all my heart and soul. You left me beautiful memories; you will always be by my side. Hazel Marie (Sanders) Baker
Born Sept. 29, 1945 Left Us On Jan. 9, 1998
Hazel was born in Alpha, WA. and lived in the Spanaway-Tacoma area all of her life. Hazel was a hard working woman and dedicated her life to her children, her love of God and life permitted her to do so. Hazel is survived by her daughters and husbands, Twila (Rick) Elrod, Terry (Brian) Berscheid of Tacoma, Misty (Ron) Small, Spanaway, and her son Jerrome LaVallie, her soul mate friend and companion Ronald Hoskins. 7 Grandchildren. Four sisters, Donna Hoskins, Charlotte Birdsong, Kathy LaVallie, Iola Way and one brother Robert Sanders. Several nieces and nephews. "Hazel, we know you did it your way, God be with you". Memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 17 at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church, 8401 112th St., Puyallup.

James A. Egly
James Alfred Egly, 77, passed away on January 11, 1998 in Tacoma, WA, after a long illness. Born to James Donald Egly and Ruth Oliver November 15, 1920, in Hughesville, PA, he graduated from Bucknell University, Lewisberg, PA, and served in the Navy as a Lt. during World War II. For many years he enjoyed a career in banking, first at Seattle Trust and Savings Bank, then First Interstate Bank in Seattle and Tacoma, and also Union Bank in Tacoma. He was a graduate of banking schools at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, and University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. He married Molly Shannon in Seattle on February 3, 1945. Jim was a devoted family man who derived much pleasure from golf (he was the second president of Oakbrook Golf Club), gardening, fishing and reading. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Molly; sons Bruce, Centralia, Paul (Kathryn), Bellevue, John (Jennifer), Spokane; daughters Elizabeth Evans, Tacoma, Jennifer Egly, Bellevue. Grandchildren Erin, Sarah and Bryan Egly; David, James and Thomas Egly; Matthew and Allison Evans. Also survived byhis mother, Ruth Oliver Egly, Hughesville, PA. He was predeceased by his father, James Donald Egly, and his brother, Maurice L. Egly. The family requests memorials to Community Living (a resource for people with developmental disabilities and their families), 15921 N.E. 8th St., Suite 103, Bellevue, WA 98008, or a charity of your choice. Services will be held Friday, January 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7112 S. 12th, Tacoma. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.
