Hattie Marie Harden
Hattie Harden of Tacoma passed away on April 7, 1998. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Reuben (Rudy) Harden. Hattie was a member of the Allen A.M.E. Church, where she was active in the Ellen Kellum Missionary Society, Altar Guild and the Church Choir. She was a woman with many interests. During her life she was involved in the Girl Scouts of America, a member and a past president of the Matrons Club of Tacoma. Flower arranging, crafts, and oil painting were very important to her. She enjoyed her friends in the Oriental Cultural Group of Seattle, Senke Seshien School of Oriental Flower Arranging, and the City Wide Garden Club of Tacoma. Her husband and his love spent many years fishing in the Puget Sound on their boat. Hattie was a gifted sportsperson who made her own fishing flies and lures. Survivors include her daughter, Reubena Yvette Grant; her grandson, Louis W. Barzar, Jr. of The Netherlands; her sister, Bette Jeffries of Tacoma; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11th in the Mt. View Valley Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

John "Turk" Clother
John T. Clother, 74, passed away April 7, 1998. Born in Tacoma, he had lived his entire life in the Tacoma area. He served friends and customers in auto parts sales and customer service for Napa Auto Parts for 42 years; participated in Boy Scouts of America for 12 years with Pack and Troup #37; and was a WWII Army veteran. Survivors: loving wife Pat; sons Mike (Jacque) of Tacoma, Scott (Lynette) of Spokane, and Alan (Cynthia) of Portland; sister Helen Ketcham of Louisiana; many loving grand- and great grandchildren. Visitation Friday, 10am-9pm. Funeral service 11:00 AM Saturday, April 11, 1998 in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Franciscan Hospice. John Thomas Davis
Jan. 15, 1948 - March 30, 1998
Retired Sgt. John T. Davis, 50, of Tacoma, passed away at Madigan Hospital on March 30, 1998. He leaves behind a daughter, Zemeeka of Tacoma; his mother, Dorothy Mae Davis of Jacksonville, FL; dear friend Ollie Price; and a host of family and friends. Viewing will be Thursday, April 9 from 1-9 PM. Funeral services, with honors, will be held at Mt. View Valley Chapel on Friday, April 10, 1998 at 10:00 AM. Margaret Gilstrap Anderson
Margaret Anderson, medical technologist, educator, and community activist, died at her home on April 6, 1998 at the age of 79. She was born in Normal, Illinois, and had been a Tacoma resident since 1926. She was the granddaughter of Henry Gilstrap, who was active in founding the Washington State Historical Museum. Margaret was educated in the Tacoma and Clover Park public schools, graduating from Stadium High School in 1936. She graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a B.S. in Chemistry and her medical technology internship was at Tacoma General Hospital. She worked at Mason Clinic in Seattle, the University of Washington Clinical Chemistry Research department, the University of Utah Medical School (Salt Lake City, UT), taught 7th grade science at Annie Wright Seminary, and was the Medical Technology Teaching Supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital for 18 years before her retirement in 1983. Margaret was one of the founders of the Tacoma Urban League, where she was one of the original board members and served as Treasurer from the League's inception in 1966 until 1984. She was also a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer for Family Clinic in the 1970's; member of Board of Directors for the Sickle Cell Program; a volunteer medical technologist to test Tacoma school children for sickle cell anemia; a member of the Tacoma Public School ESSA Integration Program Advisory Council; a representative of Tacoma Urban League on Head Start Advisory Council, a member of the Advisory Committee for the Hilltop Day Care Center; an instructor in the Urban League Word Processing Training Program - English and Math review in 1984; a review tutor in algebra for Tacoma Urban League Electrician's Union Typing Program; a volunteer tutor for the Tacoma Area Literacy Council Program; a volunteer tutor for Tacoma Public School students; a volunteer tutor for the LPN Training Program at St. Joseph Hospital; Democratic Precinct Committee Person for several years starting in 1985; a delegate to a number of state Democratic Party conventions; and a laboratory volunteer for Tacoma Planned Parenthood. In addition, she was a member of Tacoma Weavers Guild, UPS Women's Faculty Club, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), and the League of Women Voters. In 1989 she was honored with the Tacoma-Pierce County Distinguished Citizen Award and the Tacoma Urban League Distinguished Citizen Award. In her high school and college years, Margaret and her twin sister, Marie Gilstrap, were a well known and award-winning debate team. In later years, Margaret became a world traveler, visiting the British Isles, Scandinavia, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and New Zealand. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Dr. Norman R. Anderson, former Chairman of the University of Puget Sound Geology Department; a daughter, Deb Anderson; a son, Eric Ray Anderson; and two sisters, Marie Gilstrap of Seattle and Marilyn Freet of Tacoma. Other surviving relatives include Randall and BettyMae Anderson of Anderson Island, and her nieces, Candy Anderson, Nancy Anderson, Erin Anderson-McClun, Cathy Girnau, Cindy Jacobsen, and Georgia Gilstrap. Despite her impressive list of accomplishments, Margaret will be remembered by all who knew her as someone for whom receiving credit was always less important than getting the job done. In all she did, she was good humored, witty, generous, and above all, kind. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 11th at 2:00 p.m. at Kilworth Chapel, North 18th and Warner. Arrangements by Lynn Funeral Home 272-2131. Memorials may be made to the Tacoma Urban League, Planned Parenthood, and Associated Health Services Hospice.

Maureen Killen
Maureen Killen, 65, a Gig Harbor resident for the past year and a half, passed away April 7, 1998. Maureen was a loving wife and mother. She loved her gardening, playing tennis, golf, walking, and the ocean. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Family members include her husband, John Killen, Gig Harbor; daughter Marie Carmona, Huntington Beach, CA; son Michael Killen, Nashville, TN; daughter Anne Wolf, Scotsdale, AZ; son Daniel Killen, Stanton, CA; brothers: Harry Diamond, twin brother Hugh Diamond, both of Scotland; Neil Diamond, Campbell Diamond, both of England; Jim Diamond, Canada; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at Haven of Rest Chapel, Hwy. 16, Gig Harbor. Remembrances may be made to Parame- dics, Pierce County Fire District #5, 10222 Bujacich Rd. Molly A. Sauter, 61, of Sumner, passed away April 5, 1998 at her home. She is survived by husband Elmer Sauter, Sumner; son Bradley Gleason, Anchorage, AK; four daughters, Gayle White, Sumner, Katheryn Metz, Mesa, AZ, Dori Comstock, Auburn, WA, Patti Jo Burton, Newport, VA; 3 stepsons, Steven Sauter, Tacoma, James and Dwayne Sauter, both of Spokane; stepdaughter Lori Rossey, OK; mother Irma Houk, Knoxsville, TN; two sisters, Carol Houk, Tacoma, Pam Kelley, Knoxsville, TN; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at Yahn & Son Funeral Home, Auburn.

Raymond C. Mulholland
Raymond C. (Ray) Mulholland, 76, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 1998. Ray was born in Tacoma on 2-2-22 to Fred and Blanche Mulholland. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Ray retired as a Senior Vice President - Finance from Nalley's Fine Foods after 40 years of service. He was a long time member of Tacoma Rotary Club No. 8, where he was a past club treasurer and an Arthur H. Wickens Fellow. Ray was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, a past board member of the Pantages Center and Pierce County Home Health, and a member of the Tacoma Elks Lodge No. 174, Oakbrook Golf and Country Club, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, in 1992. He is survived by his children, Bruce (Linda) Mulholland, Placentia, CA, Janis (Scott) Fox, Monroe, and David Mulholland, Tacoma; grandchildren Michelle (Jimmy) Garrity, Lee Mulholland, Heather Fox, Kara Fox; brother Fred (LaVonne) Mulholland; sisters-in-law Ann Pinchak, Margaret Pinchak, Nancy (Charles) Elling; brother-in-law William Allen. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 13, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 North J St., Tacoma. Very Rev. Michael G. Ryan, Celebrant. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Visitation will be at the funeral home all day Sunday, April 12. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or Associated Home Health/ Hospice. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Peter Marsh, Dr. Irv Pierce and all the staff of MultiCare Oncology, Tacoma General 6-JI Oncology, Associated Home Health and Associated Hospice Services for their excellent and compassionate care of Ray. Siedea B. King
Siedea B. King was born in Monmouth, IL, July 18, 1920. She attended Monmouth College in Illinois. In the early 1940's, Siedea relocated to Spokane, WA, where she, in 1943, married her husband Robert. They resided there for 11 years before relocating to Seattle, afterwards establishing residence in Lakewood for over 30 years. Siedea enjoyed cooking, working in her rose garden, and reading. Due to her declining health, she entered Providence Marionwood Care Center in Issaquah, WA, where she died April 6, 1998. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert King of Issaquah; daughters Shama and Tamara King of Seattle, Pamela McKinnie and husband Mac Porter of Bellevue, along with granddaughters Raquel Gonzalez and Jhensi Porter. Contributions may be made in the memory of Siedea B. King to your favorite charity. Services will be private. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Thomas Patrick Birch Jr. "Tommy"
Thomas Birch Jr., born March 13, 1962 in Tacoma, departed this life by a violent act on April 6, 1998. He was a lifelong resident of Puyallup. An enthusiastic car buff, he spent countless hours with his favorite make, the "Chevy Nova." A frequent participant in karaoke, his love for the guitar and music motivated him to song writing, despite his lifelong battle with Diabetes. Survivors include his two sons, Andrew (7) and Alex (6); father Thomas P. Birch Sr.; mother Margie S. Birch; sisters Janell Shaffer and Kristine Hauenstein; grandparents Marvin and Dorothy Calloway; nephews Jason, Joey and Jordan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Viewing will be Friday, 1:00pm at Mt. View. Funeral services to be held Saturday, April 11, 1998, 1:00 p.m. in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Entombment in Calvary Cloisters. David Barton Selby, age 46, passed away April 3, 1998 in Tacoma, Washington. Born Feb. 29,1952 in Tacoma, raised in Eatonville, WA, and lived in Klamath Falls, Oregon for the past 25 years. He is survived by parents Robert and Meredith Sholin of Eatonville, WA; brother Mark Selby and wife RayeAnn of Tacoma; sister Julie Susedik and husband Kenneth of Kent, WA; sister Lorie Folven and husband Kenneth of Puyallup, WA; sister Katherine Clubb of Tacoma; daughters Cassandra and Adrian Selby of Klamath Falls, OR; and 4 nephews and 2 nieces. He served in Vietnam after high school as a pilot on a river patrol boat. His enjoyment in life was his family and friend, golf, hunting, fishing and anything in the outdoors.
