John Furelid, 86, born May 20, 1911 in Norway, died April 5, 1998, in Tacoma, Washington. He was a member of the Sons of Norway. John was preceded in death by his wife Luella and son Myron. Visitation Tuesday, 4 pm to 8 pm, with Funeral Services Wednesday 4:00 pm, all at Dryer Mortuary Chapel. Interment Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Tacoma. Arrangements by Dryer Mortuary.

Joseph Scherb
Joseph Scherb, 52, born on April 7, 1945 in the U.S.S.R., passed away Saturday, April 4, 1998 at his residence in Bonney Lake. Joseph had worked for Boeing for 27 years and had resided many years in this area. Survivors include wife Cheryl Scherb; daughters Leanne Scherb, Bonney Lake, Arielle Scherb, Bonney Lake, Tammy Scherb, Renton, and son Jacob Scherb, Calabasas, CA; father and mother, Herschel and Zelda Scherb, Brooklyn, NY; sisters Esther Scherb (Roger), Laurel, MD and Tammy Cymerblit (David), Afula, Israel. Graveside services will be held TODAY, Tuesday, April 7, 1998 at 1:00 PM at the Buckley Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Tacoma Funeral Home and Cemeteries, 564-1311. The family suggests memorials to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1124 Columbia St., Seattle, WA 98104-2092.

Karen J. Hull
Karen J. Hull of Tacoma, died April 4, 1998 at St. Joseph Medical Center. She was born on June 14, 1946 in Menlo, Iowa. Karen studied nursing at Highline Community College and worked in private practice in the area of psychology. Survivors include her brother, Jay Hull of Port Orchard, and two sisters, Susan Madsen of Kent and Charlene of Tacoma.

Katherine B. Sinding
Kitty was born on September 27, 1915 in Trenton, NJ, to Roy Talmage and Margaret Valentine Brumbaugh, and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 5, 1998. She came to Tacoma in 1930 when her father was called to the pastorate of the First Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Stadium High School and studied at the Cornish School. She married James Christian Sinding on January 3, 1937. She was also very active in the Bible Presbyterian Church and enjoyed music, especially the piano. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James; a sister, Ruth; brother Roy; daughters Katherine and Elisabeth; a son, David; daughters-in-law Marilyn and Diane; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Son James Elliott is deceased. There will be a memorial service at the Tacoma Bible Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 10 at 1:00 PM. Remembrances may be made to the Tacoma or Olympia Bible Presbyterian Churches.

Lester W. Jensen
Lester W. Jensen, 86, of Enumclaw, died April 5, 1998. He was born May 15, 1911 in Seattle, WA. Lester was a salesman for Sunset Electric, selling milk tanks and sanitizing products to dairymen. Survivors include wife Barbara, of the home; sons Barton (Karen) of Enumclaw, Richard of Issaquah, and daughter Kristine (John) Rogers of Enumclaw; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brother Elmer (Emily) Jensen of Enumclaw. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 11, 1998, 11:00 am at Mountain Villa Mobile Manor Clubhouse in Enumclaw. Memorials may be made to Community Memorial Hospital Foundation. Service directed by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home.

Margaret Agnes O'Malley
Margaret O'Malley was born February 19, 1927 in Tacoma, WA, and passed away April 5, 1998 in Tacoma, WA. She enjoyed gardening and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, George O'Malley; daughter Patricia Mason; sons George O'Malley III and his wife Sue, and Robert O'Malley and his wife Sequoia; and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 1998 at Mt. View Garden Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Mildred Pearl (Midge) Millen
Mildred Pearl (Midge) Millen died Saturday, April 4, 1998 at the age of 85. She was the daughter of Clarence and Edith Burkette of Puyallup, and a lifetime resident of Puyallup and Tacoma. She married George Millen on October 7, 1935 and they were married for 61 years. George passed away December 29, 1996. Midge is survived by a son, George Millen Jr. and his wife Jean of Warrensburg, MO; a daughter, Janet Godwin of Lacey, WA; three grandchildren, Kym Rodriguez of Lacey, Roy Millen and Beth Millen of Warrensburg; and two great grandchildren, Danny and Jacque Rodriguez of Lacey. She was a long time member of the Christ Church of Tacoma and served on the Altar Guild. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, and playing the piano and organ. She will be missed greatly by friends and family. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, April 9th in the Mt. View Valley Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Myrtle Keeling, 89, of Tacoma, died Sunday, April 5, 1998. She was born January 3, 1909 in Junction, Idaho. Myrtle was a telephone operator in the 1920's. Her family was her lifelong work. She is survived by sons Clarence J. Keeling Jr., Tacoma, Jerome Keeling, Suquamish; daughter Marian J. Glossner, Tacoma; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, April 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Fir Lane Funeral Home. Fir Lane Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert D. Joyner
Robert Joyner, 71, a Pierce County resident for 54 years, passed away April 3, 1998 in Tacoma. He was born March 28, 1927 in Highmore, SD. Robert had worked for Hooker Chemical, retiring in 1985, and was a member of the Tacoma Eagles and Elks. Survivors include wife Sylvia of the family home; former wife Jurene of Westport, WA; sons Wade (Heidi) of Sumner, Lance (Michelle) of Puyallup; daughter Julie (Jeff) Wals of Puyallup; sister Velma Pekarek of Ellensburg; and 6 grandchildren: Rachael, Brock, Travis, Kendall, Rex and Ryan. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, April 8, 1998, 11:00am at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup.

Shirley M. Spencer, 68, passed away April 4, 1998 in Tacoma. She was a lifetime resident of Tacoma, a 1948 graduate of Lincoln High School, and was employed at Boeing for 15 years. Survivors include daughters Sharon Harmon of Tacoma, Patricia Cowan of Virginia, and 9 grandchildren. Visitation begins Wednesday, April 8, 1998 from 10 am until 9 pm at Mt. View Funeral Home. Vern LeRoy Geesey
1930 - 1998
Vern LeRoy Geesey went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 5, 1998. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend. He was born in American Falls, Idaho, the seventh of ten children born to Anna and George Geesey. When he was 12 years old the family moved to Ellensburg, WA, where he graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1948. In 1950 he joined the Navy and was stationed at Bremerton Navy Hospital as a hospital corpsman. From 1953-1953 he served in the Korean War with the Marines. He married Joyce Stanke in 1953 when he returned from overseas. From 1954-1992 he was a building contractor and provided many homes for families throughout the Pierce County region. Vern was an active member of Spanaway Assembly of God and served as Vice President/Secretary for many years, caring greatly for the needs of people. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna, sisters Iva Mae and Arlene, and brother Elmer. He is survived by his adoring wife of 44 years, Joyce; loving children, Debi (Willie) Snow, Doug Geesey, Denise Geesey and Don Geesey; 3 sisters, Maxine Seal, Doris Long, Joan Haynal; 3 brothers, Emmit Geesey, George Geesey, Gene Geesey. Vern was "Grandpa" to his 10 grandchildren. Viewing will be held Wednesday, April 8th from 11am-5pm and Thursday, April 9th, 8am-10am at Mt. View Funeral Home. Graveside for family and friends of Vern will be held Thursday at 10:30am at Mt. View Memorial Park. A memorial service celebrating the life of this great man will be Thursday, April 9, 1998 at 7:00pm at Spanaway Assembly of God.

Vernon Fariss, 59, passed away April 4, 1998. He was born May 30, 1938 in Richmond, VA, and hadresided in Puyallup for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters Linda Johnson, Patty Hill and Lori Mason; granddaughters Justine Johnson, Erin Johnson and Lindsey Mason; and sister Joyce Sinclair. Memorial services Thursday, April 9, 1998 at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Clementine Pauline Lombardi
Clementine Pauline Lombardi, of Yakima, passed away Friday, April 3, 1998 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Mrs. Lombardi was born in Butte, Montana on January 28, 1908 to Guiseppi and Amabile (Lencioni) Quilici. She married Vincent Lombardi in 1924 in Butte. The family made their home in Tacoma from 1932 until 1993 when she moved to Yakima. Mrs. Lombardi was a retired retail manager. She had been a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Tacoma. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting and needlepoint, ceramics and flower gardening. This past January, she celebrated her 90th birthday with a party at the Doubletree with most of her family present. She is lovingly survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law; George and Mary Lombardi of Selah, Eugene and Patricia Lombardi of St. George, Utah. Eleven grandchildren; Teresa, Paul, Mark, John, Daniel, David, Donald and Douglas Lombardi, Marian Morris, Diane Brogan, Deborah Annibali. Twenty Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother Joseph Quilici. Viewing will be held Monday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at Keith and Keith 9th Ave. Chapel. Recitation of the rosary will be Tuesday, April 7, 1998 7:00 p.m. at Gaffney, Cassidy and Allen with Buckley-King Funeral Directors, Tacoma. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wed., April 8, 1998 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, Children's Orthopedic Hospital or your favorite charity.
