John Steven Charney
John Steven Charney was born Sept. 25, 1924 in Mutual, PA and passed away June 26, 1998 in Tacoma, WA. John served in the Navy and in the Air Force. He retired from the City of Tacoma after 23 years, working for the Dept. of Public Utilities. He was a member of the VFW Ray C. Roberts Post #969, the Daffodil Eagles Arie #2308, Lakes Moose Lodge #1865, Amvets Post #1, and the Lakewood Elks. John enjoyed hunting, golfing and traveling. He is survived by his finance, Isabel (Izzy) A. Edwards of Fircrest, WA; daughter, DeLynn R. Ketner (Steve) of Puyallup, WA; son, Robert J. Charney of Florida; grandchildren, Robert Jr., A.J., Casey, Jaqueline and Breann Charney, all of Florida; brothers, Jacob J. Matkovich of Tacoma and Mike Charney of Windber, PA; sisters, Ethel Reed of Johnstown, PA. and Violet Pavlosky of Crainbrook, PA. and former wife, mother of DeLynn, Betty Charney of Puyallup. Viewing will be held Monday, June 29 from 11 AM to 9 PM and Tuesday from 9 AM to 12 PM. Services will be Tuesday, June 30 at 1 PM in Mt. View's Garden Chapel. Judith Mae Fifles
Judith Fifles, 62, died June 26, 1998. She is survived by her husband Phil Fifles; sons, George and William Fifles; daughter, Cathy Salwolke and husband Ross; brothers, Bruce and Leonard Reiter; sister, Marge Martin; 3 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Piper-Morley Chapel, 5436 So Puget Sound. 472-3353.

Irene L. Fis
sh Irene L. Fish, 93, died Sat. June 20, 1998. She was preceded in deatr husband of 62 years, Vynor. Irene was born Oct. 7, 1904 in Farlington, Kansas to Willie and Alta Lundrigan. At the age of 4 she moved with her family to Puyallup, WA., were she was raised and educated, graduating from Puyallup High School in 1923. She received her Normal Diploma from CPS in 1925 and taught 3 years at Puyallup's Riverside Grade School. In the fall of 1928 she began 29 years of devoted teaching at Eatonville Grade School. She loved her teaching and the hundreds of children that passed through her classes. Irene married Vynor Fish on June 28, 1933. She loved her family, her Clear Lake Home where she lived for 57 years, the Mountain, the trees, the flowers, and all the natural beauty of Washington. After Irene and Vynor retired they traveled and visited family. She was a 53 year member of Order of Eastern Star, Mt. Star Chapter 179 and past Worthy Matron. She was a lifelong member of the Mother Church Of Christ, Scientist in Boston. Surviving members are daughter, Marjorie (Dr. William P.) Castelli of Marloboro, MA.; son, Harold (Yoshie) of Eatonville; grandsons, Larry and Bill Castelli of Maryland; granddaughter, Allyson Castelli- Larsen of MA.; grandson, Colin Fish of Tokyo, Japan; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Marion (Betty) Lundrigan of Pasco; sisters, Joy (Milton) Cole of Puyallup and Bliss (Gilman) Welcker of Port Angeles. She was also the sister of the late Carol Lundrigan, Merle Lundrigan and Clara Green. A Memorial Service will be held the first week in August at a time to be announced. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Vynor and Irene Fish Educational Fund at any branch of Key Bank. Arrangements by Dryer Mortuary.

Werner H. Thurston
Werner H. Thurston of Missoula, MT, and formerly of Tacoma, died June 22, 1998 at the Village Health Care Center at the age of 92. He was born in Linden, Switzerland, and came to this country as a young man. He traveled and worked in several states before settling in Idaho. He established himself as a reputable buttermaker in Nampa, where he met and married Velma Duspiva. Their marriage lasted 58 years until her death in 1993. Werner received his U.S. citizenship and was proud to say that he voted in every election for over 60 years. He was a quiet and gentle man, and a truly responsible citizen in all respects. During WWII he worked construction and helped build the U.S. Naval Base at Farragut, ID. His last working years were as a Longshoreman in Tacoma, where he retired in 1968. He was a Life Member of the ILWU. Werner was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Jewel Hunter and her husband Ron of Missoula; grandchildren Mike Madar and Paige of Palmer, AK, Julie and Blaise Prebo of Clayton, CA, Jennifer and Ned Brandenberger of Sandpoint, ID, Pam and Dave Poukish of Polson, MT, Lisa and Joe Sutton of Belgrade, MT, Reed Hunter of Missoula, MT, and Julie and Willard Moore of Ronan, MT; great-grandchildren Jeri, Bill, Jamie, Nathan, Hannah, Luke, Will and Wolfie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Lester Yankey of Weiser, ID, and Jean and Bob Fisher of Eugene, OR; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives in Switzerland. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. Graveside services will be 1:30pm Wednesday, July 1 at Mt. View Memorial Park in Tacoma, where Werner lived for many years and where his wife Velma is buried. Viewing 9:30am-1:00pm, Wed., July 1. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Craig J. Schnieder
Craig Schnieder was born in Portland, OR, on Jan. 12, 1946. He died following a brief illness at American Lakes VA Hospital on June 26, 1998. Craig will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and his enjoyment of hunting. He was a 33-1/3 degree Mason belonging to the Valley of Olympia Lodge. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and Federal Civil Service, working both at McChord and Elemdorf Air Force Bases. He is survived by sons David J. Schnieder of Yelm, Richard (Peggy) Schnieder of Yelm, 4 grandchildren, and former wife Sherry. Services to celebrate the life of Craig will be held at the home of David Schnieder, 14632 Mud Run Rd., Yelm, WA 98597, Thursday, July 2, 1998 at 3 p.m. Arrangements by Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 272-1414.

Dagmar Gunhild Lundquist
Dagmar Gunhild Lundquist, 93, died June 24, 1998 in Seattle. She was born in Sweden and had lived in Tacoma for 65 years. She was a member of Vasa Order of America and the former Bethel Lutheran Church. Survivors are a daughter, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Services will be Tuesday, June 30 at 10:30 AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 72nd and Puget Sound Ave.

James D. Ramirez
James was born on August 5, 1938 in Compton, CA. He passed away June 27, 1998 at his home foloowing a brief illness. He enjoyed fishing and had a gift of making others happy. He will be lovingly remembered by all those who knew him. John Franklin Porter Jr.
John Porter, 55, a fourth generation Puyallup resident, died Friday, June 26th, 1998. John leaves behind a loving family - his wife, Phyl Lou; daughhter, Angela Ann Porter Severson (husband, John) of Puyallup and son John Franklin Porter III, of Newport Beach, California; his mother, Frances Porter of Puyallup; sisters - Sara (Salli) Porter Ketcham, Puyallup, Nancy Walker, Mapleton, Oregon, Candace Blancher, Eatonville; and mother-in-law, Louise Hermansen, Puyallup. John graduated from Puyallup High School and the University of Washington where he was a member of the Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. John began his career in California working for the J.C. Penney Company and held several management positions in both the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. He served as city Manager of Cudahy, California before returning to Puyallup in 1990. Since his return to the Valley, John became a steadfast community supporter and leader, having served as the past president of the Eastern Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and was still a member of that board at the time of his death and was past president of the Puyallup Main Street Association. He and his wife Phyl Lou own the Puyallup Travel Service and he was an Associate broker with Gateway Real Estate. His other affiliations included memberships in Mensa Intertel, the Tacoma Art Museum and the national Peanut Pals organization. A memorial service to celebrate John's life is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1st at Peace Lutheran Church in Puyallup. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to remember John, send a contribution to Valley Arts United, P.O. Box 416, Puyallup, WA. 98371 to be used to purchase a piece of art in his name, for permanent placement in downtown Puyallup.

John William Robinson
John W. Robinson-Born on December 27, 1899 in Mancato, Minnesota to Samuel Harvey and Martha Mary (Green) Robinson, died June 26, 1998 in Puyallup. Mr. Robinson graduated from Ellensberg High School in 1917, Central Washington in 1919 and the University of Washington in 1921. He was a Principal in the Aberdeen and Edmonds School District. His memberships include Sumner Presbyterian Church in Sumner, Masons, N.E.A. and W.E.A. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, enjoyed boating and loved to travel with his wife in their trailer. Mr. Robinson was a loving husband and loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his great-great-granddaughter. Husband of 74 years of Vera Joyce (Riddell) Robinson. Father of the late John W. Robinson, Jr., Grandfather of Teri Lyn Bunce of Birdsboro, Pa., and Brent William Robinson of Auburn, Wa. Great-grandfather of Jason Lee Robinson of Federal Way, Trevor Reed Robinson and Bryce William Robinson both of Auburn, and Nicholas Bunce, and Julia Cameron both of Birdsboro, Pa. Great-great-grandfather of Kailey Savannah Robinson of Federal Way. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, 3 p.m., July 1, 1998 at Woodlawn Abbey Mausoleum, Sumner, with Pastor J. Steven Starr officiating. Memorial contributions to Sumner Presbyterian Church, 1915 Washington Street, Sumner, Wa. 98390 appreciated by family. Arrangements entrusted to POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 320 W. Margaret "Maggie" Heinrick
1932 - 1998
Margaret Louise Heinrick, a lifetime resident of Tacoma died 6-24-98 following a 7-year battle with cancer. After graduating from Stadium and UPS she taught school the majority of her career at Curtis Junior High. Throughout her adult life Maggie was active in many sports, among them basketball, softball and bowling in which she won many honors. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene. She is survived by brothers, John R. of Tacoma, Dennis of Ferndale; sisters, Patricia Koester, Littleton, CO., Kathleen Coleman, Gig Harbor; numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Margaret was a very strong woman who lived her life her own way and whose courageous fight for life was an inspiration to all who were there during the last years. Thanks to Dr. Frank Senecal, his staff and the staff at St. Joseph's for their care and patience and to family friend Clare Shelstad for her dedicated care giving. Memorials in Maggie's name may be made to The American Cancer Society or the Athletic Fund at Curtis Junior High. Memorial services will be held 6-30-98 at 1 P.M. at Gaffney Cassedy Allen and Buckley King Funeral Home. Reception following at Engine House No. 9, 611 No. Pine, Tacoma.
