Vera M. Spadafore
Vera M. Spadafore, a former 56 year resident of Seattle, entered eternal rest, June 8, 1998 in Spokane, WA. She was 81. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Gray, granddaughter Kristine Gray, both of Spokane; sister Irene Olson of Alameda, CA; many nieces, nephews and friends. Vera was born in San Francisco, January 27, 1917, to Mammie and James Booker, who survived the 1906 earthquake. She moved to Tacoma as an infant and was raised there. In 1937 she married Alvin J. Spadafore and they moved to Seattle, where she resided until 1993 when she moved to Spokane. Her beloved Alvin died in 1992. In Seattle she was employed as a seamstress with Judy Frocks, Shamacks, and Boeing until her retirement in 1969. She was a member of Sacred Heart and St. Matthew's Catholic Churches, Lake City Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the Aeromechanics Union. Funeral Services were held June 13 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Spokane. The Burial Service will be held Saturday, June 27, 1998, 10:30 AM at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 5212 70th St. W., Tacoma. The family prefers memorial contributions be made to Morning Star Boy's Ranch, PO Box 8087, Spokane, WA 99203; or Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 W. 5th, Spokane, WA 99204.

Verna Belle Thornton
Verna Belle Thornton, 81, born September 29, 1916 in Alma, Michigan, passed away June 22, 1998 in Puyallup, WA. Verna was a member of The Little Church on the Prairie, Lakewood, and a member of the Lakewood Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Thornton. Survivors include her daughter, Verneda Stiles; grandchildren Dana Davies (Evan), Daniel Stiles, Nathaniel Stiles (Kim), and Timothy Stiles; great-grandchildren Dakota, Dillon and Killian; and 2 sisters. Memorial services 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998 at The Little Church on the Prairie, Lakewood. Interment at Mt. View Memorial Park. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Vernon W. Virgil
Gone Bowling
Vernon W. Virgil died June 21, 1998. He was born in Boise Idaho June 19, 1910 to Perry and Georgia Wyatt Virgil. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arleigh Brobak Virgil; daughter, Lenore Virgil and son Glen Virgil; a daughter, Kathleen passed before him in 1956. Vernon was an avid bowler and builder in which he built his own home. Vernon worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Rex Schmalz Construction until retirement in 1962. The family would like to thank the Edgewood Fire Dept. for all of their support over the years. A Graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 26, 1998 at Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac with Memorial Service at 1:00 PM at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 3505 122nd Ave. E., Edgewood, WA. Visitation will be Wed. and Thurs. 3-8 PM at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup.

Akiko Keeler
Akiko Keeler, 54, passed away April 12, 1998. Born in Hachinoke, Japan, April 1944, Aki came to American in 1973. She became a proud U.S. citizen, Feb. 1980. Aki was a devout Buddhist SGI-USA leader and member in the Tacoma area. She is survived by her husband, Brad; her son, Alex; sister Teiko from Tacoma; and brother Ichizo Tabata, Hachinoke, Japan. Aki was a wonderful wife and mother and will be greatly missed by he family and many friends. Viewing will be held April 15 from 12 to 5 p.m., and April 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Fir Lane Funeral Home, 924 E. 176th St., Spanaway, WA, 253-531-6600. A SGI Buddhist Memorial Service will be held April 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Tacoma Community Center, 8815 S. Tacoma Way, Suite 112, Tacoma, 253-582-8520. All friends are invited. Flowers may be sent to Fir Lane Funeral Home or donations made in Aki's name to the American Cancer Society.

Don H. Porter
Mr. Porter, 94, died Saturday, April 11, 1998 in Thermopolis, WY. He was born Sept. 29, 1903 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Manuel and Grace (Allison) Porter. He married Winona Gilmore June 1926. They had three children Don G. Porter, Stanley B. Porter, Marilyn C. Bell. They lived in the Tacoma area off and on from 1940 until 1996. Services were held in Hagerman, ID.

Drusilla Hall "Grandma Dru"
Drusilla Hall, 84, a Pierce County resident for 40 years, died Saturday, April 11, 1998 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. She was born December 12, 1913 in Lexington, KY, to George and Heddi Dennison. She grew up in Bisbee, AZ, and married Everett H. Hall in Port Orchard, WA, in 1956. He passed before her in 1987. Drusilla was an avid reader and loved to spend time with her family. Other survivors include 2 sons, Michael Harvey Sr. of Kapowsin, and Cecil Crandall of Spokane; 6 daughters, Ann Green and Michelle Taylor of Tacoma, Isabelle Gregory of Lebanon, MO, Louise Miller of Phoenix, AZ, BettyLou McDaniel of Phoenix, AZ, Paula Hall of Graham, WA; 27 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospital for all there help and care. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup.

Preceded in death by wife Agnes and son Terrence, Harry has lived in Lewiston, ID, and Brewster, WA, since leaving Tacoma in 1973. Formerly a member of W.W. Carpenters Union and Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he is survived by wife Elizabeth of Brewster, daughter Diane Parr and daughter-in-law Susan Parr of Tacoma, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

James Ed Hahn

James Ed Hahn graduated from Stadium High School and wasraised in the Dash Point area. He served his country in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a lover of hunting and fishing and going to the cabin. Survivors include his dad, Bob Hahn; mother Murnie Tewell; sister Shelly Fairburn; daughter Jamie; 2 grandchildren; special aunt and uncle Flora and George Peters; cousins Pat, Kathy and Suzie; along with many friends. "Right from the start you went to my heart, and that's where you'll stay till my last remaining day." Forever, Mom. No services per James' request. Mary H. Clark
Major, USAF NC, Ret. Mary H. Clark went to be with her Lord April 11, 1998. Mary was born in Childless County, Texas, May 8, 1929. She graduated from Slaton High School, Slaton, TX, followed by St. Anthony's School of Nursing, Amarillo, TX. She served in USAF Nurses Corps for 25 years, retiring in 1978. Her military career included service in Europe, Japan, Thailand, Alaska and several stateside Air Force bases. She was involved as flight nurse in Operation Homecoming for U.S. POW's returning from Hanoi, Vietnam. Following her Air Force retirement she served an interim six months period with World Vision Ministries in Somalia, followed by 13 years as a Group Health Cooperative, South Region, Consulting Nurse. Mary has been a resident of the Puget Sound area for the past 20 years. Wherever she was, her love for life and people bore a silent witness to her Christian faith and love for her Lord Jesus, affecting the lives of people throughout the world. Mary is survived by three sisters, Janie Ford, Slaton, TX, Dixie Bownds, Dumas, TX, and Patty LaPlant, Fairfield, CA; ten nephews and nieces and 15 great-nephews and nieces. Also, she is survived by Ellen Ravine and Frances Burgess, house mates of 26 years. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple, Assembly of God Church where she was an active and loved member since 1978. Reverend David Tonn officiating. Nancy Fay Abner
Nancy Fay Abner passed away on April 10, 1998 at the Cottesmore Nursing Home in Gig Harbor. Fay was born on May 10, 1914 in Tacoma and was the loving wife of Donald Abner, who preceded her in death. She was a wonderful companion to her husband with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Fay is survived by nephews Robert and Donald Bussey and his wife Barbara and their families, and a brother-in-law, Alan Abner and his wife Donna of Reno, NV. Fay's family and friends greatly appreciate the loving care given to her and her late husband, Donald, by the staff at the Cottesmore Nursing Home.
