Harold “Hutch” Hutchinson
Feb. 16, 1923 - Sept. 18, 2001
Harold died peacefully September 18 at the age of seventy-eight. Born in North Dakota and moved to Tacoma in 1933. He graduated from Lincoln High School and then joined the Coast Guard. He resided in Pinole, CA since 1958. “Hutch” retired as a Sheet Metal Superintendent. He was a member of the El Sobrante Banjo Band and Pinole Senior Center. He also enjoyed staying active in the Pinole community. He will be missed, but never forgotten by all his family and friends. His daughters Deborah De La Housaye, Marjorie (Douglas) Cheyne and Candice Hutchinson survive him. He was the proud grandpa of Scott Martin, Jenny Howard, Ryan Cheyne, Dustin Cheyne and Todd De La Housaye. He was also the loving great- grandpa to Jessica Howard and Nyah Cheyne. Graveside services will be held at New Tacoma Cemetery on Saturday, September 29 at 12:00 PM, with reception following; 223-3342 for questions. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Food Connection, 1323 Yakima Ave., Tacoma, WA 98405

Carl Bray
June 15, 1975-September 23, 2001
Carl has left the loving embrace of his family and friends, but we know that he is in a happy, gentle and peaceful place. He is in the Lord’s keeping now and He is in for some interesting times. For family and friends who wish, Carl may be seen at Bonney-Watson, Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac on Wednesday, September 26 from 12:00 Noon - 8:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Carl’s Life at The Ren- ton Christian Center, 16640 SE Old Petrovisky Road, Renton, on Saturday, September 29 at 12:00 Noon, followed by an open house at his parent’s home. The family suggests a donation to the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund, in lieu of flowers.

Lloyd Edward Davis
Lloyd E. Davis, retired MSGT. U.S. Army, went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie Davis; a son, Lloyd E. Davis III, active duty U.S. Army, Germany; and three daughters, Samaj A. James of L.A., CA; Macara C. (Arthur) Underwood and Breyon J. James, both of Tacoma, WA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Marcus, Stephanie and Jacob Davis of Spokane, WA; Darin, Ahmari and A’Lira Underwood of Tacoma, WA; and Asai James Vicente of L.A., CA; two brothers, Hugh and William Davis of Texas, and a sister, Izetta (Marshall) Day of Michigan. Also survived by a host of relatives and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, James and Caro Bell Davis, two brothers, James and Billy Ted Davis, and sisters Helen Wilson and Gloria Bentley. Services Thursday, September 27, 2001, 5:00 p.m. at Trinity Pres- byterian Church, 1615 6th Ave. Visitation TODAY from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Upper Room Funeral Chap- el, 1016 So. L St. (253) 272-2656.

Lucille V. Walker
Lucille V. Walker passed away on September 23, 2001 in Tacoma. She was born in Rose Hill, Iowa on August 2, 1910. She moved to Tacoma in 1942 and retired from Peoples Department Store as a pie baker. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Laurance C. (Red) Walker, a son, Laurance C. Walker Jr., and by a daughter, Sharon Vinson. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Herb) Mueller, Marjorie Snell, and a son, Jerry (Sherry) Walker; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. Cremation will be held at Mountain View Fu- neral Home. At her request, there will be no services other than the graveside service Saturday, September 29, 2001 at 12:30 PM at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Steven Clement Norman
May 2, 1978 - September 16, 2001 Steve passed away following a serious car accident. He was hit by a truck and killed while driving home from a friend’s house. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and mentors who loved him. He was 23 years old, and just getting started in his life. He was a drywaller by trade. Steve was a very giving person, he was always helping people, especially his mom. He wasn’t just a son, but his mom’s best friend. He loved his sisters and brothers very much and would have done anything for them. He had plans to get a home of his own one day and dreamed of marrying a nice girl and having children. All those dreams are now gone and all that is left are good memories of Steve and the broken dreams of what might have been. He is survived by his mother Phyllis Burg, father Roger Norman, sisters Tammy Weber, Carrie Noel, brother Bobby Norman; many mentors who helped in his upbringing; several stepbrothers and sisters, and lots of good friends. Services will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m. in Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery.

Lavana Nobles Hartfield, 81
Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, born November 21, 1919 in Texas, began her new life with the Lord on September 23, 2001. She will be forever loved and missed by her family. Lavana is survived by her five children, Nathel Colon, Manzil, Charles, Grandziel and Nathaniel Hartfield of Tacoma. Ms. Hartfield had one son-in-law, Julio Colon, and two daughters-in-law, Colleen and Dalynn Hartfield. Lavana also had 10 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Viewing for Ms. Lavana Hartfield will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at Lynn Funeral Home, located at 717 Tacoma Ave. S. in Tacoma, from 12-5 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at Lynn Funeral Home on Thursday, September 27, 2001 at 1 p.m. Interment will be conducted at Oakwood Cemetery, located at 5210 S. Helen M. Cowin
Peacefully passed away to be with the Lord, Sept. 23, 2001. Born in 1917 in St. Ignatius, Montana. She is survived by her loving son and daughter, Sidney Cowin of Anacortes, WA and Mary Webber of Klamath Falls, OR; sister Grace Skaflestad, Tacoma, WA; brother Jim Sousley, Kennewick, WA. Also, her loving niece and caregiver for the past 16-1/2 years, Joyce Coffel. Helen had 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews and their ex- tended families. Helen was a loving person and she will be missed. Viewing will be today, 11am-9pm. Services 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Richard P. Colkitt
Richard P. Colkitt of Bellingham passed away Sunday, September 23, 2001 at his residence in Ferndale. He was 71. Survivors include his wife Marilyn, of 51 years; children Paula and Dan Curtis of Edgewood, Perlene and Larry Cook of Lebarn, WA, Paulette and Mike Calton of Taco- ma, Lee Colkitt of Milton, Pamela DePaul of Milton, Lonnie Colkitt of Milton, Patience Colkitt of Tacoma, Lynn and Kelly Colkitt of Puyallup; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters and 4 brothers. A graveside service for Mr. Colkitt will be Thursday, September 27, 11:00 AM at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale. The memorial service will also be Thursday, September 27, 12:30 PM at Moles Funeral Home Chapel in Ferndale. Reverend Skip Suess, of Good News Fellowship Church in Ferndale, will officiate. THELMA R. PLANCK
Thelma R. Planck, 87, born October 2, 1913 in Yakima, WA to Harry and Ersula Akehurst, passed away September 24, 2001 in Puyallup, WA. Mrs. Planck graduated from Yakima High School. While in Yakima she was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Eastern Star and Eagles Drill Team. She moved to California in 1956, where she lived until 1964 when she took up permanent residence in Puyallup. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vestal A. Planck, and two brothers. Survivors include Charlene (Ray) Weist of Spokane, WA; Janine (Curt) Ness of Tacoma, WA; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sister Mardell (Dean) Quesnell of Gleed, WA; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Edwin H. Taschner
Age 78, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away Sept. 21, 2001. Ed was born in Marquette County, WI. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ed settled in Seattle, WA after the war and became a successful builder. In 1971 Ed moved to Phoenix, AZ where he built strip malls and condo housing projects. He retired in 1994. He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Barry (Dotty) Taschner of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Pamela (Marshall) Scattone of Tacoma; ex-wife, Rose Taschner; loving companion Doreen Oswalt; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother, Harvey; sisters, Laura, Delores, Edna and Betty. We will miss him greatly. All who knew Ed will be forever touched by his cheerful smile and happy disposition, his steadfast resolve to do the right thing and his unselfishness and caring nature. Ed will be remembered for his genuine love and care for family and friends. Viewing will be Tuesday, 9:00 AM - 1 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, 1:00 PM at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup. Interment at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent.
