Volney B. Hoover
Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Volney Hoover was born in Oroville, WA on September 20, 1926 and went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2001 after a long extended illness. He will be so greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel, son Randy (Lisa) Hoover, daughter Renee (Walter) Torres, three grandchildren Ryan, Erica and Alejandro, four sisters Faith Stevens, Geraldine Dressler, Lorraine Simnit and Shirley Ball, three brothers Dr. Galen Hoover, Bernard Hoover and Wayne Hoover. Memorial contributions may be made to World Visions in Federal Way. Memorial services will be held at the Puyallup Church of the Nazarene, 1026 7th Ave. SW, Puyallup on Friday, September 21st at 11:00 AM. Private entombment at Sumner Mausoleum. PEGGY LEE MARTIN
Peggy Lee Martin, 52, passed away September 10, 2001 from a heart attack. Her daughter Treasa, her husband Gary and her mother Donna Roberts preceded her in death. She will be forever missed by her father John Roberts, her daughter Robin Wetzel, her son T.J. and her daughter Lisa Carnahan (Jory). She was a loving grandmother to LeeAnna, William and Kaitlyn. Her sister Lynn and brother Mark also survive her. Graveside services will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, September 22, 2001 at 2:30 PM. A celebration of her life will be held at her home following the service.

Seafiemu Koke, age 43, passed away Sept. 9, 2001. He was born May 11, 1958 in American Samoa. A million times we’ve needed you, A million times we’ve cried; If love alone could have saved you, You never would have died. In life we’ve loved you dearly, In death we’ve loved you still; In our hearts you hold a place No one can ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God called you home! Mr. Koke is survived by his parents, Koke and Tagisa Pomele; wife Kimberly S. Koke; 2 daughters, Denisha M. and Desiree S. He was preceded by brother Aoaota Pomele. Visitation will begin Wednesday, Sept. 19th, noon until 9 PM, and each day until Sunday. Sunday services will be at 3 p.m. at Fern Hill United Methodist Church, 501 S. 84th St., Tacoma. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. in the Aspen Chapel, Celebration of Life Center, on the grounds of Mt. View Memorial Park. VIOLET LANEVE LARSON
Violet L. Larson was born October 3, 1919 in Tacoma, WA. She passed away September 15, 2001. She was a graduate of Stadium High School and attended Knapp Business College. She was a former employee of Todd Shipyards, Marine Ironworks, and Comfort-Davis-Blangy Realtors. She loved her grandchildren, hunting and fishing with her husband, gambling, traveling, and many happy hours getting her hair done at Fair Ladies Beauty Salon for many years. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, M. James Larson, daughter Victoria (Viki) Larson, grandchildren Krystal and Micheal Larson, sister Betty Karl, and several brothers and sisters-in- law, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2001 in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.

Esther Anna Inwards
Born March 30, 1921, in Brainard, MN, went to be with the Lord Septebmer 14, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen. Esther and Glen were blessed with six children: Dick (Mary) Inwards, Jeanette (Don) Odell, Betty (Charles) Lucash, Joanne (Jay) Cramer, Sharon (Ed) Vormestrand and Cheryl Zinski; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Margaret Inwards and Elsie (Ernest) Loya and many nieces and nephews. Esther was a long-time member of Spanaway Lutheran Church and she will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 18, 2001, 1 PM - 7 PM, Fir Lane Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2001, 2:00 PM at Fir Lane Memorial Chapel, Spanaway, WA. Donald August Slenkamp
Donald August Slenkamp, age 80, died September 15, 2001. He was born January 11, 1921 in Morton, Washington to August and Marylee (Blankenship) Slenkamp. He is fondly remembered for running the Slenkamp Christmas Tree Farm since 1983. He is survived by his wife Beth, of 55 years; sons: David and wife Diane Slenkamp, Alan Slenkamp of Roseburg, OR, Paul and wife Vicky Slenkamp of Ketchikan, AK, Robert and wife Beverly of Snohomish; daughters: Donna and husband Buddy Messick of Marysville, Mary Kathleen Slenkamp of California; grandchildren: Barbara, Terri Lee, Karla, Shelby, Randy, Trina, Sarah Beth, Michael, Sean, Heather, Kurt and Karl; great-grandchildren: Mary, Cris, Brynn, Kiely, Teddy, Cory and Aaron; and one great- great-grandchild, Keli; sister, Alice Saimons of Stanwood; nieces and nephews: Ray, Ron, Jean, Larry, Nancy, Shawn, Heather, John, Maryann, Val and Mike. He is preceded in death by his sister Marie and survived by her daughter, Laura. Services will be held Thursday, September 20 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.

Jacqueline Friedman
Jacqueline Friedman, age 66, passed away September 14, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Mrs. Friedman is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bob Friedman; 3 daughters, Soo-Gin Rohrer, Joyce Fahey and Kim Johns; 2 sons, Choi U. Ma and Kevin Friedman; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, Young Chul Yi; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife and a dedicated mother. Jackie will always be remembered for her commitment to excellence in every endeavor. A very wise person who was always willing to share her knowledge and wisdom with everyone. She was not only a mother and a wife, but also a best friend to all. Wherever she went, she spread a ray of sunshine. She will be missed by all. Rosary will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at 7:00 PM at the Bonney-Watson Funeral Chapel, 1535 S.W. Dash Pt. Rd., Federal Way, WA. Joanne Streets
Joanne Streets was born Johanna Helene Wild on February 16, 1915 in Valparaiso, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the fourth of seven children born to German immigrants Frederick and Anna Wild. On Tuesday, September 4, 2001, she died in Tacoma, Washington. Joanne moved to Tacoma in 1955 with her husband Estel, who preceded her in death in 1996. Early in her life she worked in Los Angeles sewing for a glove factory and later caring for children in families in which she had become a part. She was a homemaker who raised three daughters with an enduring appreciation for family life. We will always remember and carry on the tradition of her peach cobbler, sauerkraut, and kneple. Joanne is survived by daughters Caralene (Fred) Fleming, Tacoma; Susan (Gordon) Gering, Ritzville; Jo (Mark) Ader, Olalla; grandchildren: Nicole, Erik and Lesley, Gabrielle and Jennifer, Emily and Sam; great-grandchildren: Katie, Johanna, Bailey and Riley; nieces and nephews and dear friend, Dean Johnson. A family graveside service was held Friday, September 7, 2001, at Haven of Rest Memorial Park, Gig Harbor. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Pierce County Division, 120 Tacoma Avenue No., Tacoma, WA 98403.

Kathrina L. Salzmann
Mimi Salzmann, 65, died September 15, 2001 in Puyallup. She had worked at Union Bank of California for more than 40 years. In retirement, she enjoyed computers, gardening, and her cats. She is survived by her sister Georgine “Bobbie” Salzmann of Fife and many cousins. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 18, 2001, 10:00 a.m. at the 1002 S. Yakima Ave Chapel. Ralph W. Jacobsen
Ralph W. Jacobson, 88, passed away September 13, 2001. He was a lifelong Tacoma resident. Ralph served in the U.S. Army during WWII. When he returned to Tacoma in 1946,he went to work for the Metropolitan Park District until his retirement in 1962. He will be missed by many friends and neighbors at 6915 E. Vickery Ave., where he resided for 50 years. Survivors include his brother, Arnold A. Jacobsen, Tacoma; sisters, Ethel P. Bittner of Des Moines, Doris Walruth, Fairbanks, Alaska. Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA. Arrangements by Lynn Funeral Home, 253- 272-2131.

Boyd A. Lundstrom
Boyd was born October 25, 1924 in Malta, Montana. Boyd passed away September 14, 2001 in Lakewood, WA. He served in the Army and was stationed in Europe under the command of General Eisenhower. Boyd started his business ventures by selling Venetian blinds and finally progressing to real estate. He was a vital part of the developments located in the West end of Lakewood which covered areas known today as Franwood, Forest Grove, Arrowhead and others. He became so intrigued with real estate that he bought Lake City Realty, which later became Northwest Properties. He also was involved with the development of a number of apartments to include Unionaire, Oakaire, Truaire, Lakeaire, Villaire and Mountaire. He later formed Lundstrom Development Company and with Les Rowland they built Bridgeport Center. All in all Boyd was involved with real estate for over 40 years. Boyd loved Lakewood, and along with Clay Huntington was instrumental in locating the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in Lakewood. Below is a small list of his life’s accomplishments: Served two years as President of Lakewood Area Chamber of Commerce. Served two years on the Small Business Administration Council. Past Director of the Bank of Tacoma. Served 13 years on the Board of Directors and 11 years as President of Lakeview Light & Power Company. First Chairman of the Pierce County Housing Authority in 1972. Member of Lakewood Rotary Club since 1964. President of Lakewood Unlimited in 1968- 1969. Lifetime member V.F.W. Member of American Legion. Member of Tacoma Elks. Pierce County Charter Review Commission 1987. Lifetime Director, National Association of Home Builders. Past President and Lifetime Director of the Home Builders Association of Washington State. Past President and Lifetime Director of the Master Builder Association of Tacoma/ Pierce County, spike member with 322 members. Boyd is survived by his daughter, Alinda Hash and her husband Tony of Lakewood; his sons: David Lundstrom of Lakewood and Roger and Ingrid Lundstrom also of Lakewood; his sister, Doris Robinson and his brother Clifford Lundstrom both from Montana; two granddaughters: Kristin Martindale of Lakewood and Jayme Lundstrom of Spanaway. The viewing will be Monday, September 17, 12 Noon - 9 PM at Mt. View Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Lakewood Baptist Temple, 10710 Military Road, SW, Lakewood, WA with graveside services to be at Mt. View Cemetery. No words can express how Boyd has touched lives and how his fund raising efforts in the past will continue to affect lives in the future.

Daniel Nicholas Schrup
Dan was born March 24, 1921 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Cathedral High School, Creighton University in Nebraska and Compton College in Los Angeles. Dan joined Western Airlines in 1943, where he served as an Agent, Station Manager and Regional Director until 1983, retiring in Seattle. He enjoyed golfing and fishing in Alaska. He served as a baseball coach, member of the Junior Football and Cub Scout boards, and was an avid booster for all of his children’s activities. All who knew Dan will remember him as a respected coworker, devoted husband, and a fun-loving, dedicated father. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fon; six daughters, Terry, Mary, Susan, Patricia, Barbara, and Kathleen; three sons, David, Richard, and Timothy; seventeen grandchildren; a brother, Robert Schrup of Sequim; a sister Rosemary Nenohlo of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dan passed away on September 12, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family who love him and will cherish every moment spent with him. Services will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Federal Way at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
