Born Aug. 17, 1926 in Mullan, ID; passed away Sept. 11, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Mrs. DeLaney worked at the Tacoma Naval Station and as a claims adjuster for the Social Security Administration. Mrs. DeLaney is survived by husband Clifton, two nieces, Sandra Paddock and Charlene (Robert) Seyfried, brother-in-law Roy (Alice) DeLaney, numerous grandnieces and -nephews, goddaughter Robin Heather Seyfried. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14, 2001 at 12 noon in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Alice Ione Hawk Dozier
Born Dec. 13, 1927 in Puyallup, WA, passed away Sept. 8, 2001 in Tacoma. Alice lived most of her life in Tacoma. She loved to play bingo and collect pictures of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survived by companion Stanley Anderson; daughters Rhea Rugebregt, Roberta LaPointe; sons Ronnie Knox, Robert P. LaPointe, Phillip Mitchell, all of Tacoma; brother James Southcott, Seattle; sister Meg Cox, Burlington, WA; very special granddaughter Rachel LaPointe, grandchildren Richard W., Ernest E. and Frank Clark LaPointe, Lawrence A. Jordan Jr., Phillip Mitchell Jr., Christopher Sylvester, all of Tacoma. Preceded in death by her parents Vilas Hawk and Madrona Southcott. Edwina Mae Horne-Hall
July 31, 1936 - Sept. 10, 2001
Born July 31, 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Willie J. Hoke and Bertha M. Hoke-Pullom. She passed away in her home on 9-10-01 after a 1-year illness. She graduated in 1955 from Lowell High School in Lowell, Mass. She retired from General Motors after 13 years, moving to Tacoma, WA in 1998 from Mansfield, OH. She was a very caring, loving, spiritual, outspoken and devoted mother. She was an inspirational piano player, and had a striking personality and a joy for life. Everyone that knew her felt her presence, and to know her was to love her. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Rodney and Brian Hoke, and her sister, Emma Jean. She is survived by her loving husband, John W. Hall, Jr.; son Roger Hoke and wife Kyong; 3 daughters, Bertha (Battia), Brenda Horne of Tacoma, Regina Fowler-Lindsey of OH; 2 brothers, Billy Bigger of Tacoma, Sgt. First Class Bruce Johns of Georgia; 2 sisters of Ohio, Pat Hightower and husband Woody, Phyllis (Punkin) and husband Sully Tucker; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of many other relatives and friends. Visitation Thursday from Noon to 5pm at Piper Funeral Home. Funeral service Friday, Sept. 14th at 1 p.m. at Church of the Living God, 1954 South M St., conducted by Pastor Lawrence White. LILLIAN JOYBELL WALIN
Born November 11, 1906 in Artichoke Lake, MN to John and Lydia Kjellman. She died at her Spanaway home September 10, 2001. Joybell was a charter member and Past Matron for Faith Chapter #255 OES, and a member of Lincoln Court Order of Amaranth. Joybel was the loving mother of S. Beverley (Bill) Wimbles of Spanaway, Joyce (Bill) Walsh of Spanaway; grandmother of Connie Ingle, Bill and Rob Wimbles, Rick Walsh and Debbie Mead; great-grandmother of Donovan, Shane, Cole, Cappy and Courtney Wimbles; sister of Eunice Kretz; and was part of a large, loving family. Graveside service will be at Mt. View Memorial Park, 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14.

Clara Lamb
Clara Lamb, born Clara Breding on April 7, 1905 in Powers Lake, North Dakota to parents Ole and Anna Breding, passed away September 10, 2001, at age 96. Clara was a remarkably kind and gentle woman, who loved spending time with her family. She was a dedicated Christian and lived her life as an example to others. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, quilt and rug making, playing Scrabble and growing flowers. She was raised on a farm in Powers Lake, where she graduated high school. She worked as a teacher in a one- room all-grade schoolhouse, and a bookkeeper for local businesses in Powers Lake before moving to Tacoma in 1941, where she lived for 60 years. Clara was the middle child of thirteen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Neil VanBerkom and Charles Lamb; siblings Bennie, Henry, Claudine Oksness, Conrad, Alma Oksness, Othniel, Esther VanBerkom, Daniel and Melvin; and grandsons Nolan, Michael, and Mitchell Keeton. Clara is survived by brothers Clarence and Newell Breding, sister Thelma Sarver, daughters Dolores (Noel) Keeton and Pamela (Ray) Belden, twin sons Darren (Sherry) Lamb and Dean (Kathy) Lamb, and son-in-law Don Ponder. “Grandma Lamb” is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Candice (Pat) Farrell, Sharon Keeton, Steve (Lory) Keeton, Tammy Keeton (Ernie Czapiewski), Kimberly (Rich) Galvan, Donald Ponder, Laurie (Tim) Todhunter, Derrik Lamb, Stacey Lamb, Gregory Lamb, Kristin Lamb; 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, September 14, 2001 from 12 Noon to 8:00 p.m. at New Tacoma Funeral Home, and 1 hour before the service on Saturday, September 15, 2001. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Chambers Creek Chapel on the grounds at New Tacoma Cemetery. At 1:00 p.m., a celebration of Clara’s life will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lakewood.

Jerry Bredeson
Gerald “Jerry” Lewis Bredeson, 48, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001. He was born June 23, 1953 to Jack and Grace Bredeson in Tacoma. He was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Jerry received his education in the Tacoma schools, graduating from Wilson High School in 1971. He worked for the Tacoma School District as a custodian for 25 years. He had a great love for animals and was an avid collector, especially of cars. He is survived by a loving wife of 22 years, Linda (Conzelman) Bredeson; son Jerry (Vanessa) and grandson Elijah; his mother Grace; his brothers, Bradley (Linda), Jack (Diane), Ronald, Thomas, Curtis (Tammie); 5 nieces, 6 nephews, 7 uncles, 7 aunts and a large, extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Jack. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mt. View Celebration of Life Building, with viewing Saturday morning until 1:30 p.m. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Helen Lorraine (Vaaler) Neufer
Helen Lorraine (Vaaler) Neufer was born to Edith and Rollo Vaaler on December 8, 1925 in Billings, Montana. Helen died peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2001 in Tacoma, Washington. Helen, in 1941, moved from Billings, Montana to Tacoma, Washington with her parents. She went to work at the Fort Lewis personnel office. There she met her future husband, John Charles (Chuck) Neufer. They were married on December 28, 1947 at Hope Lutheran Church in Tacoma. Both remained active members at Hope Lutheran their entire lives. Together, they were loving parents who raised their 2 children, Nancy and David. Helen had a very humble way of thinking, being and doing. Helen had an exceptional ability to perform acts of kindness and compassion to others. She was selfless, sacrificial and loving. In Romans 12:8, Paul urges that those who demonstrate mercy, do so with cheerfulness and gladness. Helen spontaneously and gladly offered help to others. Helen served with humility, showed compassion for those who were suffering or in trouble, ministered without regard for recognition or public affirmation. Helen had an unshakable trust and deep conviction that God keeps His promises. She had an unwavering faith and confidence in her relationship with Jesus. Her acts of kindness are tangible results of a caring heart and loving spirit. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, who died in their home on Sunday, April 15, 1984, and her brother Alan, who died January 1, 1995. Helen is survived by her children, Nancy (Tim) Tengesdal, David (Jill) Neufer; 7 grandchildren, Jason, Jonathon and Kelsey, Britt, Marci, Jack and John; brothers and sisters, Bud (Joyce) Vaaler, Donna (Gordan) Hazlett, Gary (Tammy) Vaaler; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 7209 S. Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA on Monday, September 17, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. The family of Helen would like to say thank you to her friends, and especially to her neighborhood friends, for their kindness to her throughout the years. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church Food Basket fund, Tacoma, WA. Thank you for your love to us, Mom. We miss you.

Josephine Tamajka
Josephine Tamajka, born June 20, 1923 in Hubina, Slovakia, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2001 at the age of 78. She was a resident of the Sumner area for 30 years. Josie will be forever remembered for her patience, kindness, generosity, multiple baking talents and love of gardening. She is survived by her four children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Many thanks to Cathy and Devon, her caregivers at Rainbow Cottage who provided outstanding care. And to family and friends for their continuing support and friendship. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, September 14th at 10:00am at St. Andrews Parish Chapel in Sumner, WA. Margaret (Schwartz) Roberts
Margaret was born April 2, 1910 in Reardan, WA to Peter and Anna (Eilmann) Schwartz. She received a BA in business education from the University of Washington and taught high school in the Seattle area for several years before heading the business education dept. for the City of Seattle. She married Edmund Roberts on Nov. 27, 1947. After her retirement from education, they moved to their home in Tacoma. After Edmund’s death in 1974, she continued to live in Tacoma until moving to Spokane, and into Waterford Retirement Community in 1998. She passed away Sept. 10, 2001 . Survived by two sisters, Lena (Art) Ellis, Bertha Hughes; two brothers- in-law, Rodney (Eva) Roberts and Roger (Joan) Roberts; three sisters- in-law, Maxine Kummer, Phyllis Keyser and Elizabeth Roberts; numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces and -nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Roberts, in 1974; her parents, brother Henry Schwartz and sister Lorraine Safford. Member of Christ Lutheran Church, Tacoma, WA; Hassie Car Club; WA Education Assoc. Funeral services Saturday, Sept. 15 at 10:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Reardan, WA. Marlin “Eddie” Testo
Our beloved daddy, companion, grandpa and friend suddenly passed away on September 10, 2001. We are left with much sadness, but have our wonderful memories of his love and our life and times with him. Ed Testo was born in Numa, Iowa on November 26, 1921. He was the only child of Frank and Mada Testo. After graduating from high school, he spent several years in the U.S. Navy. In the years following his military career, he moved to Tacoma and began what was to be his 40-year career with the Milwaukee Railroad. He later married and his two daughters were born. He was the best dad Diana and Donna could ever have hoped for. Ed loved bowling, gardening, fishing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. After his retirement he met Dorothy, who brought much love and happiness to his golden years. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving family - Dorothy Frost, daughters Donna Parker and Diana McCormack, son-in-law Ken McCormack, grandchildren Jennifer, Matt, Lily and Spencer, and numerous other friends and family. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2001 in the Mountain View Garden Chapel, 584-0252.

David L. Livingston
Our dearly loved husband, father and grandfather died on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, surrounded by his family. He was born in Dixon, Illinois on February 11, 1931, and lived most of his life in Tacoma. David was a CPA and employed locally at Knight Vale and Gregory, the Weyerhaeuser Co., Pacific First Federal and Washington Mutual. He also served his country in the US Army. Preceded in death by his parents, David is survived by Eileen, his wife of 48 years; daughter Jill (Mark) Merwin; sons Terry and Scott; 7 grandchildren, Luke, Jake, Matt and Michael Merwin, Carleen, Sara and Carson Livingston. David loved his family. He loved watching his sons play baseball and was a loyal fan every year. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Praise Community Church, 7435 South Madison, at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to American Red Cross for the victims of September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on America. Our family thanks the staff at Park Rose Care Center for their care and concerns for us these past few weeks.

Paula C. Long, 56, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2001, at home in Shelton. She was born on December 24, 1944 in Seattle, WA to Howard and Emmeline (Nahhas) Johnson. Paula was a homemaker and teacher. She first substituted around Olympia, then taught the 6th grade for one year at Evergreen in Shelton. Prior to that she was a Medical Transcriptionist for 25 years. Paula was an artist and illustrator. She loved to write children’s books and art curriculum. She also loved to tutor children in reading and art. Paula was very active in her church and loved her Bible studies and fellowship with her friends at Shelton First Baptist Church. Paula is survived by her husband, Mike Long, Shelton; two daughters, Christina Potis, Olympia and Sara Scheib, Spanaway; one son, Josh Long, Tacoma; one brother, Gerald Johnson, LaConner; one aunt, Freda Henry, Seattle; three cousins, Kendel Lyman, Redmond; Gene Henry, Seattle; and Matille Thorson, Seattle; father-in-law and mother-in-law Edward and Beatrice Bodette, Olympia; five grandchildren, Jordan- 9, Noah- 8, Emma- 6, Elisabeth- 2, Christian- 3. She is preceded in death by both parents. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Olympic Memorial Gardens, 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater, WA. A memorial service is Friday, September 14, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Shelton First Baptist Church, 428 W. Cota, Shelton, WA. Arrangements by McComb Funeral Home, Inc., Shelton.
