William Powers Jr.
Announcement dated December 04, 2003
William Gilman Powers Jr., died Tuesday at Swedish Medical Hospital in Seattle.

Mr. Powers was born in Spokane and lived in Colfax, Pomeroy, Palouse and Grandview. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War era and was discharged in 1969. He had a long career in the communications and graphic arts professions, having worked at KARY in Prosser, KIT and KLOQ in Yakima, KREW in Sunnyside and KSPS in Spokane. In 1977 he moved to Seattle and in 1980 started his own company, "Powers/Espinoza Graphic Design."

Survivors include his mother, Vi; two brothers, Christopher and Robert, and his long-term partner, Lino Espinoza.

Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Saturday at Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.

Gene Rensch

Gene Roland Rensch, 56, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Monday.

Mr. Rensch was born in Chambersburg, Pa., and received his bachelor's degree from Heritage College in Toppenish. He was employed with Fortifiber Corp. as plant manager for 10 years and with James River Corp. for 18 years.

Survivors include his wife, Susan "Susie" Rensch; two sons, Chris C. Rensch of Snohomish, Wash., and Ben R. Rensch of Lebanon, Pa.; one daughter, Ronda Ridley of Snohomish, Wash.; three brothers, Conrad Rensch of Fayetteville, N.C., and Edward Rensch and George Rensch of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Saundra Stoey of Chambersburg, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Sunnyside, with burial to follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.

Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Timothy Wandler

Timothy R. Wandler, 43, of Yakima died Monday

Mr. Wandler was born in Portland and raised in Yakima.

Survivors include his father, Tony Wandler of Yakima; two brothers, Charles Wandler and Terry Wandler of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Janet Kibbe of Yakima; and his great-grandmother, Margaret Carlile of Portland.

At Mr. Wander's request, no funeral services will be held.

Robert Spencer
Announcement dated December 04, 2003
Robert James Spencer, 66, of Union Gap died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Spencer was born in Toppenish and was a member of the Yakama Nation. He did volunteer work with the Union Gospel Mission.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Spencer; five sisters, Sharon Zack, Caryl Spencer, Elaine Allen and Eugenia Luciano, all of Wapato and Marlene Simla of Toppenish; and one brother, Louie Vargas of Toppenish.

At Mr. Spencer's request, he will have private family services today.

Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato is in charge of arrangements.

Dale Phipps
Announcement dated December 04, 2003
Dale Leroy Phipps, 78, of Outlook died Tuesday at his home.

Mr. Phipps was born in Wichita, Kan., and moved to Sunnyside at the age of 10. He worked for Berk-Milling for many years and later retired from Valley Auto Parts. He also farmed grapes.

Survivors include his wife, Darline Phipps of Outlook; six children, Leroy Phipps of Touchet, Wash., Cheryl Pira of Sunnyside, Constance Cox of Grayland, Wash., April Levins of Pukalani, Hawaii, and Helen Dodd and Dorothy McCosh of Granger; two sisters, Helen Flaherty of Sun City, Ariz., and Marjorie Huenefeld of Sunnyside; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside.

Rita Reynaga

Rita O. Reynaga, 53, died Tuesday at Prosser Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Reynaga was born in Jalisco, Mexico, and received her education in Mexico. She moved to the valley in 1992, making Grandview her home.

Survivors include one daughter, Elsa Quilantan of Prosser; two sons, Adolfo Reynaga of New Mexico and Manuel Reynaga of Mexico; her mother, Maria Sepulveda of Mexico; brothers and sisters, Baldomero Ojeda, Catalina Ojeda, Socorro Ojeda, Guadalia Ojeda and Carlos Ojeda; and four grandchildren.

Viewing will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, with a rosary at 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Grandview. Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Hearth Catholic Church, Prosser, with burial to follow at the East Prosser Cemetery, Prosser.

Walter Robinson Jr.
Announcement dated December 04, 2003
Walter J. Robinson Jr., a prominent Yakima attorney, died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Robinson was born on a cattle ranch near Pomeroy, Wash. He received his law degree in 1935 and practiced law in Yakima for more than 53 years, with the exception of five years of active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1947 he joined with John Gavin to form a law partnership, which lasted until each retired. At the time of his death he was a lieutenant colonel retired in the Army's legal branch.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; two sons, Walter III of Atherton, Calif., and Dale of Middlefield, Conn.; one daughter, Marcia Robinson of Friday Harbor, Wash.; one brother, John Robinson of Pomeroy; two sisters, Mary Helen Raye of Portland and Bonita Grace Hamlin of Bellevue, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Alfred Miller
Announcement dated December 04, 2003
Alfred Miller, 81, died Monday at home.

Mr. Miller was born in Freewater, Ore., and moved to Yakima while in grade school. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a medical corpsman. After being discharged in 1946, he worked for Yakima County Hospital and later went to work for Yakima Cement until 1960. He then joined the city of Yakima and worked at the water treatment plant, retiring in 1984.

Survivors include three children, Arthur Miller of Walla Walla, Eva May Stickney of Yakima and Delpha Otman of Bothell, Wash.; two sisters, Gus Anna Smole of Yakima and Nina Smith of Georgia; seven grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Central Lutheran Church, with interment following at Tahoma Cemetery.

O.D. Purdom
Announcement dated December 04, 2003
O.D. Walen Purdom, 79, of Yakima, died Wednesday at Garden Village.

Mr. Purdom was born in Zinc, Ark. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked as an engineer in highway construction.

Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Arnett of Yakima and Louise Silva of San Diego; a stepson, Robert York of Yakima; a stepdaughter, Alice Marie Kaase of Tulsa, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue with interment following at West Hills Cemetery.

Nellie Mae Pierson

Nellie Mae Pierson, 74, of Toppenish died Sunday.

Ms. Pierson was born and raised in Toppenish. She worked as a maid for motels in Toppenish.

No services are planned.

Cremation arrangements have been made through Colonial Funeral Home.

Mona E. Evans

Mona E. Evans, 87, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Evans was born in Minnesota. She lived for 36 years in the Yakima area, where she owned and operated the Duck Inn Restaurant.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn, and one son, Ken Evans, both of Yakima.

At her request there will be no services.

Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima is handling arrangements.

Eleanor Amelia VanderHyde

Eleanor Amelia VanderHyde, 89, of Olympia died Tuesday.

Mrs. VanderHyde was born in San Francisco, and lived in Olympia the last 10 years. She previously lived in Yakima, where she worked as an office manager.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail Dickerman, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Cathedral Chapel. Concluding services and burial will follow in the Tahoma Cemetery.

Herman J. Lyczewski

Herman J. Lyczewski, 90, of Yakima died Monday at Parkside Nursing Home.

Mr. Lyczewski was born in North Dakota. He lived in the Yakima area for 30 years, and was an orchard worker.

Survivors include his son, Gary Lyczewski of Yakima; a daughter, Sharon Norman of Yakima; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be planned at a later date.

Claude Arthur 'Art' Baisinger Jr.

Claude Arthur "Art" Baisinger Jr., 81, of Yakima died Tuesday.

Mr. Baisinger was born in Seattle. He was an electrician and retired in 1984. He moved to Yakima in 1989.

Survivors include his son, Stephen Rolf Baisinger of Yakima; his daughter, Ann Elizabeth Barduhn of Yakima; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sixth Ward, 1414 S. 72nd Ave., with a luncheon to follow.

Valley Hills Funeral Home, Terrace Heights, is in charge of the arrangements.

William J. Neumeister

William J. Neumeister, 57, of Yakima died Tuesday in Pendleton, Ore.

Mr. Neumeister was born and raised in Yakima. He served in the United States Army National Guard. He was employed by Best Built in Union Gap as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Trina Neumeister of Yakima; three daughters, Michelle Neumeister of Auburn, Wash., Kelly Hunt of Burien, Wash., and Pam Neumeister of Shelton, Wash.; one sister, Pam Lamb of Wiley City; two brothers, Don Neumeister of Yakima and Vaughn Neumeister of Belfair, Wash.; his stepfather, John Olivetto Sr. of Spokane; two stepbrothers, Mike Olivetto of San Diego, Calif., and John Olivetto Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three grandchildren.

Services are pending.

Peter Paul Hatzenbeler

Peter Paul Hatzenbeler, 84, of Yakima died Saturday at his home.

Mr. Hatzenbeler was born in Dickinson, N.D. He lived in the Yakima Valley for many years. He worked as a railroad brakeman/switchman.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Hatzenbeler of Yakima; two sons, Robert "Bob" Hatzenbeler of Yakima and Gary F. Hatzenbeler of Camas, Wash.; two daughters, Diana S. Anderson of Yakima and Janice R. Tope of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Kay Herzig of Henderson, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Cathedral in Yakima. Entombment of cremated remains will be at the Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Langevin-Mussetter is in charge of the arrangements.

Ricardo V. Molina

Ricardo V. Molina, 64, of Grandview died Monday.

Mr. Molina was born in Mexico and had been a resident of Grandview for the past 10 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Santoyo of Grandview; two sons, Guy Molina of Lynnwood, Wash., and Rick Molina of Grandview; his father, Guadalupe Molina; one brother, Juan Molina; two sisters, Olga Salinas and Olivia Perez, all of Progresso, Texas; and two grandsons.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview. Burial will be at the Mabton Cemetery.

May S. Baker

May S. Baker, 85, of South Cle Elum died Friday at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital.

Mrs. Baker was born and raised in Kirkland, Wash. As a teenager she moved to New York and worked in the kitchens at Colgate University in Hamilton and at a college in Morrisville.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle Baker Sr. of South Cle Elum; one daughter, Julie Viola of Florida; two sons, Robert and Lyle Baker Jr., both of Gold Bar; one sister, Marguerite, and one brother, Eric, both of Redmond, Wash.; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.

Arrangements are by Affordable Funeral Care of Ellensburg.
