William H. "Billy" Wright, 95, of Ellensburg died Tuesday at Kittitas Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Wright was born in Yakima and came to the Kittitas Valley in the mid-1940s. He was active in the operation of the family farm in the Badger Pocket area for 65 years.

Survivors include three brothers, Charles Wright of Ellensburg, Aubrey Wright and George Wright, both of Seattle.

A memorial observation will be private, with inurnment in West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima. Arrangements are by Affordable Funeral Care of Ellensburg.

Patricia M. Goudy
Announcement dated August 08, 2009
Patricia M. Goudy, 61, of Toppenish died Thursday. Mrs. Goudy was born in Nespelem, Wash., and was raised and educated in the Yakima Valley. She worked as the editor of the Yakama Nation Review and most recently was an accountant for the Yakama Nation Department of Commerce.

Survivors include three children, Mel Skahan and Shance Skahan of Toppenish and Estelle Skahan of Union Gap; two brothers, Anthony Goudy of Wapato and James Goudy of Dallesport, Wash.; two sisters, Bertha Elwell of Toppenish and Carol Littlewolf of Wapato; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Umtuch-Logie Cemetery, south of Toppenish.

Sherrie L. Kirk

Sherrie Lee Kirk, 58, of Yakima died Thursday. Mrs. Kirk was born in Yakima. She was employed by an insurance company and had owned a cleaning business.

Survivors include her mother, Janet Kohler of Yakima; and two sisters, Patricia L. Brown of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Karan M. Johnson of Fort Collins, Colo.

At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Mary K. Schuller
Announcement dated August 08, 2009
Mary Kathryn Schuller, 55, of Zillah died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Schuller was born in Ann Arbor, Mich. She taught elementary school at Grace Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Hans Schuller of Zillah; three sons, Stephan Schuller of Zillah, Michael Schuller of Seattle and John Schuller of Selah; a daughter, Christina Bleasdale of Tacoma; two brothers, John Covach of Appleton, Wis., and David Covach of Sarasota, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, 1207 S. Seventh Ave., Yakima. Burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Marvin M. Schultz

Marvin M. Schultz, 83, of Wapato died Thursday in Yakima. Mr. Schultz was born in St. Paul, Minn., and had lived in the Valley since 1955. He worked as a farmer and mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Schultz of Wapato; a son, David Schultz of Zillah; three daughters, Kathleen Marie Blanca of Wapato, Geraldine Ann Cannon of Carlsbad, Nev., and Betty Jane Juarez of Toppenish; a brother, Leon Schultz of Oregon; and two sisters, Darlene Alice Thomas of Portland and Bernice Gould of Independence, Mo.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Zillah Seventh-day Adventist Church. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah.

Dorothy F. Stuart

Dorothy F. Stuart, 87, of Yakima died Thursday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mrs. Stuart was born in Kansas City, Kan., and moved to Phoenix, where she worked for Digital Equipment Company for 15 years. She moved to Yakima in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Adell Carlson of Yakima; a sister, Helen Overbaugh of Arkansas; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Jesus Vargas
Announcement dated August 08, 2009
Jesus Vargas, 87, of Granger died Friday. Mr. Vargas was born in Garza Valdez, Tamualipas, Mexico. In 1957 he moved to Granger and worked for Yakima Chief Ranch for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Anselma of Granger; five daughters, Irma Martinez, Oralia Solis, Emma Leon, Elva Alegria and Elvia Serna; three sons, Jesus Jr., Israel Vargas and Michael Vargas; a sister, Elisa Elizondo; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger. Interment will follow in the Zillah City Cemetery.

Donald M. Christopher
Announcement dated August 09, 2009
Donald M. Christopher, 83, of Yakima died Wednesday at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.

Mr. Christopher was born in Jackson, Minn. With his wife, he owned and operated Don's Dairy Queen on the corner of Yakima Avenue and Eighth Street for 53 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Christopher of Yakima; a son, Mark Christopher of Yakima; a daughter Lori Hislop of Bothell, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Viewing will be noon to 5 p.m. today at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The graveside service is Monday at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A celebration of life service is Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at Englewood Christian Church.

Ernest C. Calahan

Ernest "Ernie" Clayton Calahan, 78, died Saturday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Calahan was born in White Swan, where he was a farmer. After moving to Yakima, he owned a small business and worked in construction.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Calahan of Yakima and Ernie Calahan of High Point, N.C.; a brother, Everett Calahan of Selah; a sister, Roxa Hartley of Longview, Wash.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nathan J. Lewis

Nathan Jeremiah Lewis died at birth Friday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of David S. and Mary H. Lewis of Yakima, and the grandson of Alice Tall of Maryland and James Lewis of Kennewick.

Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julia C. Bickley

Julia "Julie" Charlotte Bickley, 84, died Thursday in Yakima.

Born in Minneapolis, Mrs. Bickley moved to Yakima in 1988 with her husband, who was in the Air Force. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Gary Bickley of Selah; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Central Lutheran Church, Yakima.

Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Ayon
Announcement dated August 10, 2009
Julia (Vera) Ayon, 73, died Wednesday at Crescent Health Center in Yakima.

Mrs. Ayon was born in New Mexico and was a homemaker. She had lived in Yakima since 1951.

Survivors include her husband, Senon Ayon; four sons, John, Nathan, Isaac and Jimmy Ayon, all of Yakima; two daughters, Della Ayon and Victoria Martinez, both of Yakima; two brothers Tony and John Vera, both of Denver; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors in Yakima, with the rosary at 4 p.m. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Roman, Raul and Fernando Abundiz
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Roman, 24, Raul, 15, and Fernando Abundiz, 11, all of Yakima, died Aug. 2 on Highway 12 near Rimrock. All were born in Yakima. Roman served in the Air Force.

Survivors include their parents, Oscar and Rosa Abundiz of Yakima; and a brother, Eduardo Abundiz.

Rosary services will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday. The time is pending. Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Ernest C. Calahan
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Ernest "Ernie" Clayton Calahan, 78, of Yakima died Saturday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Calahan was born in Brownstown. He farmed in the Sunnyside and Prosser areas. In 1964 he moved to Yakima, where he and his wife purchased and operated Mike's Tavern until 1969. He then started a career in construction, retiring at age 77.

Survivors include two sons, Martin Calahan of Yakima and Ernie Calahan of High Point, N.C.; two brothers, Ervin Calahan of the Nile Valley and Everett Calahan of Selah; a sister, Roxa Hartley of Longview, Wash.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Steven Church
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Steven Church, 57, of Yakima died Sunday. Mr. Church worked as a laborer.

Anyone who has knowledge of Mr. Church's family members is asked to call Valley Hills Funeral Home at 509-453-5500.

Forest P. Craig

Forest P. Craig, 91, of Wapato died Saturday in Yakima. Mr. Craig was born in Davies, Mo. He worked as a carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Dewayne Craig of Kenai, Alaska, and Jim Craig of Yakima; two daughters, Sylvia Gott of Yakima and Olivia Lawrence of Wapato; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Toppenish. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Wapato. Interment will be in Reservation Community Memorial Park.

Ralph Edmondson
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Ralph Leon Edmondson, 60, of Moxee died Wednesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Edmondson was born in Brawley, Calif. He worked for GE of Yakima.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Edmondson of Moxee; a daughter, Michele Powers; his father, Ralph Edmondson of Yakima; his mother, Pansy Atwood of Yakima; a brother, Steve Edmondson of Omak, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Kim of Ohio; a stepson, Mike McCay of Selah; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Emma Johnson
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Emma Johnson, 77, of Wapato died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born in Hanau, Germany. She worked as a teacher's aide.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Johnson of Wapato; two sons, Freddy Johnson of Pendleton, Ore., and Duane Johnson of Wisconsin; three daughters, Joanna Malecki of Wapato, Rita Westhoff of Graham, Wash., and Tammy Billings of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in West Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Anna Ketcherside
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Anna "Pat" Ketcherside, 70, of Yakima died Sunday. Mrs. Ketcherside was born in Pendleton, Ore., and served in the Army. She lived in the Yakima for 35 years and worked in various professions.

Survivors include a son, David Ketcherside of Tacoma; four daughters, Debrah Gackle, Kathy Murray and Brenda Ketcherside, all of Tacoma, and Patricia Wells of Yakima; three brothers, Jerry Ellenberger and James Ellenberger, both of Stanfield, Ore., and Christopher Ellenberger of Post Falls, Idaho; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Keith and Keith Terrace Heights Chapel.

Nicole L. Soderstrom

Nicole Leigh Soderstrom, 38, of Yakima died Tuesday at home. Ms. Soderstrom was born in Yakima and worked several jobs.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Gray; her father and stepmother, Paul and Bea Soderstrom; and a brother, Stephen Soderstrom, all of Yakima.

Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at Langevin-Mussetter. Private inurnment will be in West Hills Memorial Park.

Erva I. Curtice Jacobson

Erva Irene Curtice Jacobson, 80, of Prosser died Wednesday at Prosser Memorial Long Term Care. Mrs. Jacobson was born in Elma, Wash., and moved to Prosser in 1937. She and her late husband farmed and she also worked for Prosser Pack for 11 years. She later worked as a typesetter for the Prosser Record Bulletin and the Grandview Herald.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Alice Bailey of San Antonio, Texas; and four cousins, Tom Lyons, Larry Lyons, Muriel Meeker and Clifford Curtice.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at Prosser Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Prosser Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Thelma Thomas
Announcement dated August 11, 2009
Thelma Thomas, 89, of Yakima died Saturday at Peach Tree Retirement Center. Mrs. Thomas was born in Ellensburg. She had worked for Ostrander's Drug and Central Washington University. In 1976 she retired from the Department of Natural Resources. In 1980 she moved from Ellensburg to Yakima.

Survivors include a son, LeRoy; two grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Keith and Keith Terrace Heights Chapel. Burial will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
