Cheryl Kay Russell, 56, of Moxee died Sunday at home. Mrs. Russell was born in Yakima. She operated a day care out of her home for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Russell of Moxee; three sons, Andrew Russell of Yakima, Christopher Russell of Renton, Wash., and Kenneth Russell of Moxee; a daughter, Jennifer DeLeon of Yakima; two brothers, Jerry Johnston Jr. of Moxee and Larry Johnston of Yakima; and six grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at East Valley Reformed Church. Concluding burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Betty B. McKenzie
Announcement dated August 26, 2009
Betty B. McKenzie, 90, of Yakima died Aug. 18. Mrs. McKenzie was born in Waverly, Iowa, and moved to the Yakima area in the early 1950s. She worked in communication for the federal government until retiring in 1980.

Survivors include a son, Robert McKenzie of Bothell, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Jepsen of Stanfield, Ore.; a sister, Vernice Furneau of Iowa; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Carrie L. Russell
Announcement dated August 26, 2009
Carrie L. Russell, 92, of Yakima died Monday at Gasseling House. Mrs. Russell was born in Sallisaw, Okla. She was a salesperson with Payless Drug for many years.

Survivors include two sisters, Nadine Green of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Velma Rae Gallimore of Elkhart, Ind.

Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in West Hills Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery.

Robert E. Summers
Announcement dated August 26, 2009
Robert Eugene Summers, 67, of Union Gap died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Summers was born in Walla Walla and served in the military. He worked as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Summers of Union Gap; a son, Jason R. Summers of Union Gap; a daughter, Jennifer Summers of Leavenworth, Wash.; and his sister, Virginia L. Brown of Walla Walla.

At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

William J. Beerman Sr.
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
William John Beerman Sr., 91, of Yakima died Sunday. Mr. Beerman was born in Thermopolis, Wyo., and served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a gold miner.

Survivors include his wife, Bea A. Beerman of Yakima; a son, William J. Beerman Jr. of Yakima; and a sister, Mary Ann Rogers of Onamia, Minn.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 3 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 4 in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Becky L. Conn
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Becky Lynn Conn, 41, of Yakima died Tuesday. Ms. Conn was born in Yakima. She worked as a day care provider.

Survivors include her mother, Nancy Conn; her companion, Shane Charron; her son, Sly Charron, all of Yakima; her daughter, Tisheena Towksjhea of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; three brothers, Michael Conn of Spokane, Robert Conn of Union Gap and Jeff Conn of Yakima; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christian Life Center, 40th and Englewood avenues. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Edna M. Fast
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Edna M. Fast, 83, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. She was born in Lustre, Mont.

Survivors include two brothers, Harvey Fast and Marvin Fast, both of Frazer, Mont.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Cherilee J. Mates
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Cherilee Jane Mates, 58, of Yakima died Wednesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Ms. Mates was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and worked as a custodian.

Survivors include two brothers, Loren Mates of Portland and Robin Mates of Kent, Wash.; and a sister, Taryn Lunyou of Zillah.

At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Efrain Quiroz III
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Efrain Quiroz III, infant son of Efrain Quiroz Jr. and Reyna Quiroz of Moxee, died at birth Monday.

Besides his parents, survivors include two sisters, Aleyna Quiroz and Abigail Quiroz, both of Moxee; and grandparents, Efrain Quiroz and Rumalda Quiroz of Prosser, Vidal Cisneros and Maria de Jesus Cisneros of Sunnyside.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. today at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah.

Helen Champion Reed
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Helen Champion Reed, 88, of Naches died Tuesday at home. She was born in Tacoma.

Survivors include her nieces, Millie Harrel, Marilyn Rawley and Kate Longacre.

Inurnment will be held at Mt. Angeles Memorial Park in Port Angeles, Wash. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Alvin E. Tatge Jr.
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Alvin Edward Tatge Jr., 60, of Union Gap died Monday. Mr. Tatge was born in Yakima. He was the owner/operator of Ray's Battery Terminal before working for Michelson Packing.

Survivors include his wife, Vicky Tatge; a son, Brian Tatge; a brother, Kenneth Tatge, all of Yakima; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

William H. Thomas
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
William "Bill" H. Thomas, 88, of Yakima died Tuesday. Mr. Thomas was born in Granite City, Ill., and served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a credit manager for Inland Steel Co. until retiring in 1974. He moved to Yakima in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Helen E. Thomas, and a daughter, Jean Nichols, both of Yakima; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A family celebration of life is planned for a later date. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Denise R. Clark
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Denise Renee Clark, 52, of Yakima died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Clark was born in Idaho and had lived in the Yakima Valley for over 30 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Adela M. Wilson of Seattle; a son, Edgal H. Clark of Yakima; her companion, Filiberto Morales of Yakima; and five grandchildren.

Services are pending. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Gerardo E. Borrego
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Gerardo "Jerry" Eugenio Borrego, 37, of Cowiche died Aug. 20. Mr. Borrego was born in San Francisco. He was a long haul truck driver and operated a farm in Cowiche for six years.

Survivors include his wife, Yenis T. Borrego; a son, Gerardo Joshua Borrego; a daughter, Genevieve Isabella Borrego; his parents, John and Beatriz E. Borrego; two brothers, John V. Borrego Jr. and Michael A. Borrego; and three sisters, Beatriz B. Ho, Angie Newman and Diana I. Phelan.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Per his wishes, cremation will follow. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Rita Jorgensen
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Rita Jorgensen of Yakima died Saturday. Mrs. Jorgensen was born in Portland. She had worked for CX Corp., Pay-n-Save (Walgreens), Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School, Washington Mutual, Wysung Corp., and Yakima Steel. During this time she also started her own consulting company and more recently started Plaza Socievole Winery in the Larson Building.

Survivors include her daughter, Tanya Dunbar; a son, Kevin Jorgensen; her companion, Bryan Eglet; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Keith and Keith Terrace Heights Chapel. Burial will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Gilbert W. Hilsinger

Gilbert Wynn Hilsinger, 64, of Sunnyside died Wednesday. Mr. Hilsinger was born in Anacortes, Wash., and lived in Sunnyside for the past three years. He was a self-employed fish fly tier in Tacoma.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Christensen of Sunnyside; three daughters, Lena Reed of Oregon, Tammy Simon of Maine and Wendy Lee of Washington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home.

Greg W. Fulmer
Announcement dated August 27, 2009
Greg W. Fulmer, 56, of Toppenish died Tuesday. Mr. Fulmer was born in Yakima and raised and educated in Toppenish. He worked as a loss prevention specialist all over the southern part of the United States. He then worked for Pacific Power and Light as a lineman for several years, and for the last 13 years was a truck driver for Haney Trucking.

Survivors include his mother, Jeanne Fulmer and his sister, Joyce "Nellie" Fulmer-Stephens, both of Toppenish.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Ann C. Daehler
Announcement dated August 28, 2009
Ann Catherine Daehler, 88, of Yakima died Wednesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Daehler was born in Kansas City, Kan. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard Anthony Daehler of Yakima; and two daughters, Sharon A. Hixson of Kerrville, Texas, and Bernalyn McGaughey of Naches.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima.

Leonard D. Hansen Sr.
Announcement dated August 28, 2009
Leonard D. Hansen Sr., 45, of Toppenish died Wednesday.

Mr. Hansen was born and raised in Toppenish. He worked at various warehouses in the Valley.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard Hansen Jr., and Thomas Hansen, both of Wapato; and two sisters, Bertha Elwell of Toppenish and Lila Biles of Grandview.

Dressing services were held Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home. Public overnight services will be at 7 p.m. today at the 1910 Shaker Church in White Swan. The funeral will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, with interment to follow in the 1910 Shaker Church Cemetery.

Freda S. Powers
Announcement dated August 28, 2009
Freda Sophie Powers, 92, of Bickleton died Wednesday in Sunnyside. Mrs. Powers was born near Maryhill, Wash. She and her husband had lived in Portland and Burns, Ore., where they operated a Texaco station and then worked in a sawmill. In 1943 they moved to Bickleton, where they farmed and raised cattle.

Survivors include a son, Bob Powers of Bickleton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bickleton. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home.

Esther L. Sutley
Announcement dated August 28, 2009
Esther Louise Sutley, 98, of Yakima died Thursday. Mrs. Sutley was born in Louisville, Ky., and moved to Yakima in the late 1930s.

Survivors include five grandchildren, Rita Parish, Bill Moser, Joe P. Moser, Jr., and Harold Sutley, all of Yakima and Valerie Hubbard of Kelso, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Interment will be in Tahoma Cemetery.

Marguerite R. Kelson
Announcement dated August 29, 2009
Marguerite Roberta Kelson, 78, of Yakima died Thursday at Landmark Care Center. Mrs. Kelson was born in Wapato. She had worked at Cal Pak and Del Monte in Toppenish. She also worked on the family farm in Wapato, growing Concord grapes, until her retirement.

Survivors include two children, Terry Kelson of Yakima and Rich Kelson of Colville, Wash.; a sister, Nita Thorp of Longview, Wash.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside inurnment will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
