Josephine Atkinson, 96, of Grandview died Wednesday.

Mrs. Atkinson was born in Weir, Kan. She owned and operated a restaurant for many years.

Survivors include five children, Sandra Payne of Yellville, Ark., Sally Edwards and F. Dwight Atkinson, both of Grandview, Stormye Loiselle of Cedar Creek, Texas, and Adelia Goedhart of Sunnyside; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of the funeral, at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery.

Tessa L. Brunhaver
Announcement dated January 22, 2010
Tessa Lynn Brunhaver, 64, of Selah died Jan. 14 at home.

Mrs. Brunhaver was born in Annapolis, Md. She worked as an administrative assistant.

Survivors include a son, Brian Brunhaver of Snohomish, Wash.; two brothers, Lewis Brunhaver and Richard "Skip" Brunhaver, both of Bellevue, Wash.; her mother, Frieda Brulotte of Yakima; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Harold R. Rohrbach
Announcement dated January 22, 2010
Harold R. Rohrbach, 84, of Yakima died Thursday at home.

Mr. Rohrbach was born in Coldwater, N.D., and served in the Army. He was a service technician for industrial refrigeration.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Rohrbach of Yakima; six children, Michael Rohrbach of Yakima, Marilyn Trogden of Lacey, Wash., Steven Rohrbach of Mount Vernon, Wash., Randolph Rohrbach of Anchorage, Alaska, Sharon McCafferty of Moxee and Anthony Rohrbach of Outlook; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Yakima. Concluding services and burial with full military honors will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Larry A. Carter

Larry Ace Carter, 62, of Yakima died Wednesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Carter was born in Deadwood, S.D., and was raised and educated in California. He served in the Navy. In the late 1970s, he moved to Yakima and worked at service stations.

Survivors include two daughters, Lori Carter and Calli Vaughn, both of Livermore, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Catron and Thelma Catron, both of Yakima; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in West Hills Memorial Park. Those attending should meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Grace Gardner
Announcement dated January 23, 2010
Grace Gardner, 54, of Los Angeles died Dec. 17. Mrs. Gardner was born in Toppenish and lived in Yakima for many years before moving to California.

Survivors include a son, Aaron Gardner of New Hampshire; her birth mother, Elaine Frank Smiscon of Wapato; four brothers, Walter Smiscon Jr., David Smiscon, Patrick Culps and Jerome Culps; three sisters, Louise Napyier Price, Laurie Thacker and Lawanda Culps; and six grandchildren.

The funeral was Thursday, with burial in the Methodist Cemetery in White Swan. Arrangements were by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Michael E. Nagle

Michael Edward Nagle, 66, of Grandview died Wednesday in Wenatchee. Mr. Nagle was born in Wenatchee and had lived in Grandview for many years. He was an agriculture researcher for Washington State University.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Nagle of Grandview; a son, Tom Nagle of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Jennie Santjer of Everett, Wash.; a brother, Pat Nagle of Kennewick; four sisters, Judy Pagel and Jackie Scott, both of Olympia, Jill deGeus of Meridian, Idaho, and Joy Peterson of Yakima; and five grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Recitation of the rosary will follow at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, also at the church.

Arthur K. Ellis

Arthur K. Ellis, 68, of Selah died Thursday at home. Mr. Ellis was born in Seattle. He was a teacher and coach at Eisenhower High School.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ellis of Selah; two daughters, Angela McDermott of Spokane and Mendy Beksinski of Selah; a sister, Judith Ellis-Maas of Yakima; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 30 at First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Crockett L. Stearns

Crockett L. Stearns, 86, of Eugene, Ore., died Friday in Eugene. He was born and raised in Yakima. He was a school teacher, pharmaceutical representative and a stockbroker.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Stearns of Eugene; two daughters, Jane Hoselton of Creswell, Ore., and Jill Stephens of Hillsboro, Ore.; two sons, Peter Stearns and Patrick Stearns, both of Hailey, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A family gathering will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Musgrove Family Mortuary of Eugene.

Marion Marie Cagle, 62, of Yakima died Saturday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Cagle was born in Yakima. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Charlton and Brad Charlton of Yakima; a daughter, Rhonda Aubrey of Yakima; two sisters, Gloria Simmons of Yakima and Sandy Charlton of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, Gary Charlton and Don Charlton of Yakima, Troy Charlton of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Mike Charlton of Zillah; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, also at Keith and Keith.

Donna (Stohler) Cornelison

Donna (Stohler) Cornelison, 72, of Yakima died Saturday at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Mrs. Cornelison was born in Yakima.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Cornelison of Yakima and Scott Cornelison of Bonney Lake, Wash.; two daughters, Sheri Babcock of Puyallup and Sandy Barthlow of Selah; her mother, Helen Stohler of Yakima; a brother, Ed Stohler of Selah; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are pending. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

James R. Hunt

James R. Hunt, 69, former Yakima resident, died Wednesday. Mr. Hunt was born in Naches and served in the Navy for 21 years. He was an aircraft mechanic.

Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Prather of Sammamish, Wash., Carmen King of Chester, Va., and Cheryl Knasiak of Deltona, Fla.; three brothers, Harlan Hunt, Richard Hunt and Jerry Hunt, all of Yakima; three sisters, Marian Tamburello of Auburn, Wash., Kathleen Peffer of Yakima and Marilyn Tupling of Moses Lake; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Francisco Pena

Francisco Pena, 97, of Prosser died Sunday at home. Mr. Pena was born in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and moved to the United States in 1989. He lived in California before moving to Prosser 16 years ago. He was a laborer in agriculture.

Survivors include five children, Abel Pena and Emma Pena of Mexico, Guadalupe Reanaga of Mollala, Ore., Reina Pena of San Jose, Calif., and Maria Climaco of Prosser; two stepchildren, Bacilio Ruiz of Mabton and Arcadio Pena of Mexico; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Prosser Funeral Home. The funeral also will be today at 1 p.m. at Prosser Funeral Home.

Lon L. Vickers

Lon L. Vickers, 71, of Jay, Okla., died Thursday at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. Mr. Vickers was born in Yellville, Ark., and lived in Yakima for many years. He worked for Tieton Irrigation, for many farmers, and retired from the City of Yakima Water Division.

Survivors include three sons, Lloyd Vickers of Las Vegas, and Robert Vickers and Dominic Vickers of Yakima; a daughter, Christy Aubrey of Yakima; two twin brothers, Don Vickers of Yakima and Tom Vickers of Moses Lake; a sister, Betty Forchione of Carmichael, Calif.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life will be from 12:30 to 3 p.m., Feb. 6, at the Fruitvale Grange, 2908 Castlevale Road, Yakima. Arrangements are by Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Jay, Okla.

Virginia F. Dodson

Virginia "Boots" Fay Dodson, 79, of Yakima died Monday at home. Mrs. Dodson was born in Yakima. She worked most of her adult life in the fruit industry, picking, sorting and packing apples. She worked for more than 20 years at Kershaw Fruit.

Survivors include her husband, Lee "Red" Dodson; four children, David Haysom of Portland, Vernon Haysom of Naches, Randy Allen and Debbie Barthel of Yakima; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Tahoma Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery.

William L. Dye
Announcement dated January 27, 2010
William "Bill" L. Dye, 90, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Dye was born in Granger and educated in the Yakima Valley. He worked as an accountant for numerous businesses until his retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Dye and Phillip L. Dye, both of Yakima; and two granddaughters.

A celebration of life is being planned for a later date. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Frank T. Gamble

Frank T. Gamble, 87, of Toppenish died Tuesday. Mr. Gamble was born in Granger. He was a cattleman and farmer outside of Toppenish for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Donna M. Gamble; four children, Barbara Bailey of White Swan, George Gamble and John Gamble, both of Toppenish, and Tom Gamble of Goldendale; 12 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Colonial Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.

Carmen L. Stearns

Carmen L. Stearns, 81, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Stearns was born in Yakima. She worked in the dental field from 1950 until 1978.

Survivors include four children, Mike Stearns and Rodney Stearns of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Crockett Stearns of Pocatello, Idaho, and Kathy Young of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Howard Rummel of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Rhea Cady of Yakima; and nine grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at West Valley Church of the Nazarene in Yakima. Concluding services and burial will follow in Tahoma Cemetery.

Adam J. Wurtz Sr.

Adam J. Wurtz Sr., 82, of Yakima died Sunday. Mr. Wurtz was born in Morton County, N.D., and moved to the Yakima area in 1966. He served in the Air Force for 20 years, during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He later worked as a canvas cutter for Yakima Tent and Awning until his retirement in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wurtz of Yakima; three sons, Adam J. Wurtz Jr. of Hanover, Pa., Joseph Wurtz of Yakima and Robert Wurtz of Selah; three daughters, Theresa Rowe of Tenino, Wash., Mary Willis and Cathy Hoppis of Selah; a brother, Ted Wurtz of Port Ludlow, Wash.; two sisters, Agnes Koch of Spokane and Veronica Lucas of Duchane, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. A vigil will follow at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Selah. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, also at the church. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery.

Cecelia (Thola) Thomas, 82, of Yakima died Monday at Landmark Care Center. She was born in Yakima and worked as a telephone operator and a homemaker.

Survivors include a niece, Linda Hinkley of Yakima, and a nephew, Joe Thola of Spokane.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Dr. William H. Harris Jr.

Dr. William Herbert Harris Jr., 89, of Selah died Monday.

Mr. Harris was born in Selah and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He later worked as a veterinarian in Toppenish for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Harriett; a daughter, Marianne Harris of Selah; and a sister, Dr. Bernice Davidson of San Diego.

At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Survivors include his mother, Lucina Escamilla Sierra; brothers and sisters, Lauro, Julio, Ramiro, Rodolfo, Dionicio, Jorje, Javier, Victorina, Juana, Luisa, and Benita Escobar.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel.
