Miley John, 75, of Yakima died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. John was born in Joplin, Mo. He worked as a car salesman and an entrepreneur.

Survivors include a son, Miller John of Union Gap; two daughters, Diana John and Lola John, both of Yakima; and a brother, Nick John of Yakima.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Calvary Cemetery.

Theresa M. Oldfield
Announcement dated April 16, 2010
Theresa Marie Oldfield, 84, of Bellevue, Wash., died Wednesday in Seattle. Mrs. Oldfield was born in Yakima and raised in Moxee. She taught at St. Patrick's School in Walla Walla and later at Providence Academy in Vancouver, Wash. She moved to Sunnyside in 1953.

Survivors include five children, Brad Oldfield and Scott Oldfield of Everett, Wash., Debra Smith of Seattle, Brian Oldfield of Prosser and Barry Oldfield of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Dolores Oldfield of Harrah; two brothers, Lester Roy of Moxee and Ted Roy of Yakima; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Viewing will be at the vigil at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Moxee. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, also at the church. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Kenneth C. White

Kenneth Charles White, 52, of Zillah died Thursday. Mr. White was born in Toppenish. He was the head groundskeeper for the Zillah School District.

Survivors include his fiancee, Jackie Scott of Yakima; a son, Brian White of Yakima; a daughter, Maelene White of Yakima; his mother, Ada White of Zillah; and his brother, Calvin White of Yakima.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Zillah Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah.

Wilma E. (Baer) Williams

Wilma Esther (Baer) Williams, 88, died Thursday at Selah Convalescent Home. Mrs. Williams was born in Clinton, Ohio.

Harold Edward (Jack) Money, 92, of Yakima died Wednesday at Ponderosa Retirement Center. Mr. Money was born in Decatur, Ark., and served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Walla Walla and Parker Heights before settling in Yakima, and was employed at the Dolsen Co. for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Mae Money of Yakima; three daughters, Carol Fielder of Tofino, B.C., Linda Mortimer and Kay Mulkey of Yakima; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Timothy A. Butler
Announcement dated April 16, 2010
Timothy A. Butler, 55, of Sunnyside died Monday at home. Mr. Butler was born and raised in Sunnyside. He worked 33 years at the local PVC pipe plant, which is currently JM Eagle.

Survivors include his wife, Bridget Butler; a daughter, Stephanie Miller; a son, Shawn Butler; his parents, Dwight and Peggy Butler; three brothers, Glenn, Charlie and Tony; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Neighborhood Church in Sunnyside. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home and Crematory.

Rolla J. Riley

Rolla J. Riley, 88, of Yakima died Wednesday at Landmark Care Center. Mr. Riley was born in Lamoille, Ill., and served in the Marines.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Riley of Yakima.

Services are planned for a later date. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Carl W. Meluskey
Announcement dated April 19, 2010
Carl W. Meluskey, 66, of Yakima died Friday.

Mr. Meluskey was born in Bethlehem, Pa., and was a journeyman ironworker in Washington, Nevada and California.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Meluskey of Yakima; a son, Mitch Meluskey of Yakima; a brother, Zigmund Meluskey of Yakima; two sisters, Sandra Meluskey and Barbara Schaber, both of Twisp, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Keith & Keith Funeral Home.

Judy B. Shay

Judy B. Shay, 56, of Selah, died Friday. She was born in North Bend, Ore.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Shay and James Leeth; a daughter, Theresa Shay; her father, Louis Lloyd Leeth; three brothers, David Leeth, Mike Riley and Joe Lewis; two sisters, Mary Young and Loretta Lewis; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Maureen Wilkins

Maureen Wilkins, 66, of Yakima died Friday.

She was born in Vancouver, Wash. She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Wilkins; a brother, Hubert Wilkins; and a sister, Kathryn Simpson, all of Yakima.

Graveside services at Tahoma Cemetery will be announced by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Frances May Carlson
Announcement dated April 19, 2010
Frances May Carlson, 93, died at her Yakima home Friday.

Mrs. Carlson was born in Tacoma. She worked as a secretary at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, Wash., moving to Yakima in 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Kaye O'Neill of Yakima; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will hold private memorial services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home.

Perry Adams

Perry Adams, 48, of Alexandria, Va., died Wednesday in Washington, D.C. Mr. Adams was born in Yakima and served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of major. He worked for the Department of Energy in the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Survivors include his wife, Sabrina Adams of Alexandria, Va.; and two stepsons, Robert Lathrop and Douglas Lathrop, both of Snohomish, Wash.

Graveside service, with full military honors, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Zillah Cemetery. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah.

Floyd Barquist
Announcement dated April 20, 2010

Floyd Barquist, 90, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Barquist was born in Osakis, Minn. He lived in Enumclaw, Wash., and Los Angeles and Yakima. He worked as a mold-loftsman in ship building during World War II. He worked in many grocery stores in a variety of jobs. In 1980 he retired from Noel Foods. He then went to work as a sales representative for Kelly-Clark food brokers and retired from there in 1987.

Survivors include four children, Norman of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Carol of Yakima, Lisa of Clearwater, Fla., and Beth of Battle Ground, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. May 16 in the Orchard Park Activity Room. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Maria J. Ochoa De Silva
Announcement dated April 20, 2010

Maria Juana Ochoa De Silva, 95, of Toppenish died Friday. Mrs. De Silva was born in Michoacán, Mexico. She lived in California before moving to Toppenish three years ago. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Miguel Silva, Aureliano Silva and Ramon Silva, all of Toppenish; five daughters, Librada Silva of Nebraska, Esperanza Silva of Toppenish, and Maria De Jesus Silva, Eloisa Silva and Angelina Silva, all of Mexico; and a brother, Miguel Ochoa of Salem, Ore.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish. Burial will be in Michoacán.

Cruz V. Hernandez

Cruz V. Hernandez, 80, of Sunnyside died Saturday. She attended schools in Texas.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Aguirre and Martha Rocha of Sunnyside; five sons, Ray Hernandez of Albany, Ore., Lucas Hernandez of Darrington, Wash., Hector Hernandez of Lynnwood, Wash., Abel Hernandez of Kirkland, Wash., and Rick Hernandez of Everett, Wash.; four sisters, Feliciana Tijerana of the Tri-Cities, Jacinta Ortega of Dallas, and Ernestina Castellanos and Dora Meza, both of Sunnyside; two brothers, Jesus Valdez of Seattle and Luis Valdez of Yakima; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home of Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.

Tomas Moreno

Tomas Moreno, 79, of Mabton died Friday. Mr. Moreno was born in Clara City, Minn., and later moved to the Yakima Valley. He grew asparagus, and he and his brother owned and operated Moreno Brothers Trucking. He also worked for Onsgard Warehouse for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Lucia Moreno; four sons, Codac Moreno, Tomas Moreno, Rick Moreno and Alberto Moreno; four daughters, Elizabeth Ortega, Gloria Moreno, Martha Moreno and Mary Moreno; and 12 grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home of Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview.

Charles J. Sloan

Charles Joseph Sloan, 41, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Sloan was born and raised in Yakima. He worked as a framer in the home construction industry.

Survivors include his mother, Geraldine Guzman of Yakima; two brothers, Michael Sloan of Granger and William Overturf of Yakima; and two sisters, Veronica Sloan of Yakima and Rebecca McAllister of Everett, Wash.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Tahoma Cemetery.

Walter H. Smith

Walter H. Smith, 86, of Zillah died Sunday at home. Mr. Smith was born in Fresno, Calif., and served in the Army for 22 years before retiring. He was a manager for Met Life and California Casualty and Life and was a courier for the Gilroy Dispatch in Gilroy, Calif. In 2000, he moved to Zillah.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith of Zillah; two children, David Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, and Linda Smith of St. Maries, Idaho; three stepchildren, Patrick McGrew of Sacramento, Calif., and Kevin McGrew and Shannon Turner, both of Elk Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be in June. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home.

Robert L. Barton

Robert “Bob” Leon Barton, 63, of Vancouver, Wash., died April 9 at Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver. Mr. Barton was born in Salem, Ore., and moved to Yakima in 1971. He worked in the men’s clothing business and outside sales until 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Barton of Vancouver; his mother, Helen Barton of Dallas, Ore.; a daughter, Tracie Beeks of Dundee, Ore.; a sister, Susan Gardner of Dallas, Ore.; two brothers, Gary Barton of Holland, Mich., and Donald Barton of Corvallis, Ore.; and two grandsons.

At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Crown Memorial Center of Milwaukie, Ore.

Hanna M. Haney
Announcement dated April 20, 2010
Hanna Mae Haney, 90, of Prosser died Sunday at Sheffield Manor. Mrs. Haney was born in Shaffers Crossing, Colo. She and her husband lived in Grandview before moving to Prosser in 1949, where they owned and operated Cottage Court Market and The Reach Inn. After retiring, they spent a short time in Kennewick, then returned to Grandview.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Mears of Grandview; one grandson and two great-grandsons.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Prosser Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Prosser Cemetery.

Christina M. Uerling

Christina “Tina” M. Uerling, 87, of Yakima died Saturday. Mrs. Uerling was born in Milton-Freewater, Ore., and raised and educated in the Tri-Cities. In 1940 she moved to the Yakima area. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, William Uerling of Birkenfeld, Ore.; five daughters, Louise Burton, Carol Ricker and Betty Baunsgard, all of Yakima, Christina Uerling of Kennewick and Dorothy Johnson of Carlsbad, N.M.; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Deanna S. Rickman

Deanna Sue Rickman, 62, of Selah died Sunday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rickman was born in Toppenish and was a lifelong resident of the Yakima Valley. She worked as an office manager and legal secretary.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Rickman of Selah; three daughters, Tamatha Brader of Selah, Angela Renae Bunyon of Kennewick and Cynthia Rickman of Outlook; two sons, Tom Rickman of Yakima and Jim L. Rickman of Bonney Lake, Wash.; a brother, Bob Wilson of Union Gap; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Robert T. Rockwell

Robert “Bob” Thomas Rockwell, 66, of Yakima died Friday at Landmark Care Center. Mr. Rockwell was born in Yakima. He worked as a chef at the Gearjammer for 20 years.

Survivors include his mother, Wilma Treece of Buena; six children, Tim Rockwell and Brad Rockwell, both of Pennsylvania, Kristyan Calhoun and Robert Rockwell, both of Yakima, Heather Rockwell of Naches and Christopher Rockwell of Selah; three brothers, Butch Rockwell and John Treece of Arizona and Rod Treece of Buena; two sisters, Jo Robinson of Utah and Cathy Brown of Buena; and 12 grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Buena Grange. A potluck reception will follow. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
